The Dangers in My Heart also made history as the first ever anime to sweep an entire season of weekly anime rankings, placing at #1 spot from start to finish in both Anime Corner and Anime Trending. Not to mention that it was also the top anime of Winter 2024 (Excluding two-cour series like Frieren) in MAL.

Well, of the 10 that aren't finished, Makeine and Dangers have no sequel. But outside the 10, Yatagarasu needs a sequel announcement bad! I'll take one for Stepsister too.
Dangers in my heart is a masterpiece of character writing and development, somehow making every moment feel more impactful than the last, whereas other series struggle to deliver the same emotional punch even at their climax. I don't know if there will ever be something to contest it in its genre. The only way to describe it is peak !
I love everything about Makeine the love and care put into it is obvious from just the first couple of minutes, I need a S2 announced I don't mind if they let it cook for a bit to reach the same quality as S1
Thank you for this video and the recommendations! I hadn't been watching anime for years due to a lack of interest honestly. But this time, I followed your advice, watched your number 1, The Dangers in My Heart, and loved it ! I just finished watching both seasons in 2 days-it was amazing !! I'll probably check out the other recommendations from your list.
Post confession content in dangers in my heart is soooo good so much unique stuff that we never see in other romances. Can't wait for the season 3 annoucement as soon as there's enough content in the manga in about 4-5 months.
I was one of the people that stopped watching DDDD because of the dubtitles. I picked it back up recently and I think they fixed the subtitles. It's been so good, it's kinda sad that it's not as popular as other AOTY contenders. Dangers in my Heart S2 is also my AOTY. I've been keeping up with the manga after S2 ended and it's still peak.
Man I really like your list. It would be great if you let us know your 20 Anime Shortlist. And I want to point out that you are really brave to put The Dangers in the Heart as number one, this is a trully great anime that really uplifts the great story of the manga. I think anything from your list is great and it really represents what a great year 2024 was for us, anime fans.
This year was already packed, and adding Apothecary Diaries and Frieren just made your overall candidate list to explode. I love your inclusion criteria though, only evaluating complete anime seasons for a proper rating. 100% agree with Bokuyaba, S2 made it skyrocket to number one romance anime ever. I don't know if you're up to date with the manga but the story keeps going hard and getting better and better. We're in for a treat if we ever get a S3.
I don’t think he reads any manga, he’s an anime watcher, he will read a manga as he’s watching the anime to see if anything is different but doesn’t read ahead. The only series that I know he’s ahead of the anime is Mushoku Tensei.
I think it was really cool getting Dangers in my Heart and Makeine in the same year. They're both fantastic romances that take very different perspectives on love and romance, neither of which really contradict each other. Dangers is a beautiful depiction of the more standard romance, which throws you into the whirlwind of powerful emotions that come with a new love. Makeine takes a step back and observes that, in spite of all the powerful emotions of young romance, many such relationships don't end up working out in the long run. And so it tries (my theory, but I think it's pretty clear at this point) to show what a romance that *does* last looks like, with the strong friendship slowly developing into something more between the two main characters.
Very interesting observation. Me and one of my mods have had a constant discussion about Makeine being possibly a story that will build towards friendships over him getting with one of the girls. Which I really think could be a solid end with how it's been going.
1:13 "...and Danmachi released one of the greatest EDs of all time." > Immediately paused and did a youtube search .... holy shit they really didn't hold back with that one.
For me it's Monogatari, Yatagarasu and Orb that were on another level with DDDDD, Spice and Wolf, Sound! Euphonium, and Dungeon Meshi as honourable mentions Frieren and Apothecary Diaries too if we count them
Nice picks! I wanted to throw in Monogatari series, but sadly I felt the later arc wasn't as strong for me. Even though I LOVE Shinobu's character, the arc felt like it dragged a bit.
Great list! So many sleeping in Spice and Wolf. Glad it made your list. Of your honorable mentions, I personally would have put Delicious in Dungeon in the top 10. The million memes Marcille's faces spawned should have earned it a spot lol
Hahaha, Understandable. Sadly for me, not a foodie person so most of the show I'm checking out. Great characters and I love the world/dungeon being so realized.

I can see the top two/shared #1 picks, Andrew. My top two are reversed but both of these shows elevated the medium for me. Frieren is my number 1. Sub or Dub, it's just fantastic and so well crafted. Definitely need more! The Dangers in My Heart s2. This elevated the show from great to my Romcom GOAT shortlist. I cannot believe every single episode was 10/10 or better. The growth by both Ichikawa and Yamada was sublime! Everything was pitch perfect and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Third is Yatagarasu The Raven Does not Choose Its Master. Although no one talked about, it has all the parts of greatness in spades. Interesting characters, setting, story, twists (especially the bombshells in the last few episodes), music, and animation puts this not just as a yearly favorite, but one of my all-time favorite. I hope it'll somehow get another season but if it doesn't, then we at least have 20 episodes of greatness. Other favorites that I couldn't stop watching/shut up about: The Unwanted Undead Adventurer, DanDaDan, Apothecary Diaries, Bang Brave Bang Bravern, MT s2c2, The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic, Shangri-La Frontier, Let This Grieving Soul Retire, Konosuba S3, and Makeine.
Excellent picks! I really hope Yatagarasu gets another season. Still very odd they adapted volume 2 of the series, but with how it ended, I need more! Also, Dangers in my Heart, 100% agree!!!!! Even if it doesn't take your number 1, it at least shows how great Frieren was!
Alya wasn't top 10 or honorable mentions? Oof! Didn't see Dangers in my Heart, but MT and Frieren at the top end I agree with. I need a top 10 ecchi anime of the year list from someone.
When going through the honorable mentions list, what was the name of the anime right after Konosuba? I could not make out the name. Thought it might be worth a look.
I don't know why he keep focusing on the "controversial" remarks. Man, enjoy what you enjoy and don't feel the need to apology. A lot of people are enjoying chainsaw man, and non of them is apologizing for being a bloodthirsty psycho. And yeah, Mushoku Tensei is a great series with the ecchi, not despite it.
I'll be so happy if 2025 is at least half as good. Every season had a few shows to enjoy. At least I know that Apothecary Diaries is getting the second season since they announced it at the end of the last episode from S1, same as Dan Da Dan. Then we have confirmation for Frieren and Gushing Over Magical Girls.

I still love the series, just not as much as what is listed. As for danmachi, yes, I sadly had to bump it to a 2025 contender due to it being incomplete. Similar to ReZero and Orb. @@otakuspirit ha! good luck with that, Roshidere is just classroom of the elite decorated with cure Russian girls. Alya is almost as useless as Suzune and has to get saved time and time again by the protagonist
19:53 No, the manga is still much better than the anime, but I always prefer the manga, I’m just much more of a manga reader than anime watcher. But I cannot believe how you’ve put Frieren at number 2 and Dangers in My Heart at number 1, it’s an anime I have absolutely no interest in whatsoever.
Not sure if you're joking or not lol.. how is it hard to believe it's in MY list because YOU don't have interest in it? Probably because we have different taste. But surprised you feel that way about the frieren manga over the anime. I read the manga along side the anime and didn't feel anything was skipped over. The quality of production was stellar.. like everything a source fan would want I feel.
@ Haha I’m sorry I should have put a full stop & not a comma between those two lines, they weren’t related, I was just saying I have no interest in the anime, not that you shouldn’t have it ahead of Frieren BECAUSE I have no interest in it. Haha. I meant I can’t believe you put a romance story based in reality ahead of an epic fantasy story with swords & sorcery. And I wasn’t saying the anime is a bad adaptation of the manga, it’s actually extremely good, it’s a near perfect adaptation, I was just saying I preferred reading the manga than watching the anime. But as I said I always think that, as I’m a manga reader, not an anime watcher.
Well even if it is not surprising that Andrew picks that number one, i really can't fathom how this can make to the number 1 spot of a list. Certainly not in my book. I found the chara design poor (which tend to get me out of story) and i found other romcoms to just be far better than this. It is still good i guess (a 8/10 in my scale of ratings). I guess it is just a matter of preference. Still: happy holidays to all of you!!
I could agree with all top 7 picks for #1 spot this year except jobless, it gets carried by the Paul episodes. Considering how many awesome shows this year had, 2 episodes don’t feel enough to be in a top10 list, welp that’s my opinion.
Did you forget about norn and nanahoshi episode. I think they were pretty good too. besides I don't think there were that many good shows this year. Rezero was also kind of let down for me nothing crazy happened this season. it was quite a standard shonen arc
Interesting. I loved all of the segments around Norn, Nanahoshi, the conflict of going to begaritt, saving Roxy, the fight of the Hydra, Rudeus's failures to his parents once again, falling into a dark state, the reveal to the family, and so much more. But hey, I admit I'm a massive fan of the series plenty of times.
@@otakuspirit I think that speaks about how much worse the anime was. As a 1st time watcher I found it annoying more than anything: “here is a problem -> oh it’s solved go next ->” I only enjoyed it after watching skipped context videos by you and aninews. I guess the fact I needed extra content only shows how good the show could have been if it was less condensed for the finale to happen. As an example : “Rudeus rebuilding his relationship with Norn could have been a nice finale for the school arc. While the letter from Paul and figuring how to travel there in 1 episode epilogue, would have worked as a nice tease for the next season.” Season 1 followed a very nice structure: Roxy takes him outside (preventable) -> Paul kicks him outside (somewhat preventable) -> disaster throwers him outside (impossible to prevent) -> journey back home. 2nd season felt like a (building relationships) + (reconciliation with the past relationships) + (journey adventure) cuz it sells. And everything felt crammed. I just don’t find it good as a stand alone anime. Anyway happy late holidays if anyone reads this.
I hate Dead Dead Demons, it’s actually at the very bottom of my manga list, in very last place, I bought all the volumes & never even finished it, I hated it so much.

There are…. magazines in Japan about it. I may or may not have picked one up when I was over there. 😂
I feel like Roshidere got a bit stiffed here
Sadly Roshidere got weak towards the end. Love Yuki and Masha stuff, but sadly the writer needs to work on Alya.
@@otakuspirit ha! good luck with that, Roshidere is just classroom of the elite decorated with cure Russian girls. Alya is almost as useless as Suzune and has to get saved time and time again by the protagonist
if not already, u need to watch Girls band cry from 2024
Did, it was solid, just a bit too melodramatic for my taste.
@@otakuspirit Fair enough, i found GBC way more solid than Jellyfish overall, except for maybe that Kiui episode about bullying.
Would have dropped Oshinoko (loath the MC) and added Re:Zero, but other than a bit of reordering, that's pretty much my list.
Nice! Rezero would totally be there if weren't for it ending in Winter.
I mean I get it, my no1 was a show nobody rates that high, I think the point is this is his list :) what was your no1?
Many people has it as no 1,even on mal it's top 2 highest rated anime of 2024. It's not even surprising
Re zero was robbed😢
ReZero is continuing, I never add shows continuing. It will most likely be number one in winter
Dumbest list ever seen.
Dumbest person I've ever seen, crying over someone list.
Oof, no worries. I seen a lot of mix responses for it.
