@jsl8461 I didn’t know that but that’s a dumb rule lol like I get they want action but most of the time people don’t really try to shoot off the shot clock anyway because it’s kinda risky
That shot clock call on Dake was atrocious! Frank was hardly moving at all, as evidenced by his wide defensive stance. I personally think they should just get rid of that rule entirely. Who cares what style you use.
@JSL Trying to understand these rules. It looked like Dake was trying to set up a takedown the entire first period; his underhook didnt work, so he broke it off but he kept level changing and looking for shots. I didnt see Chamizo do much of anything but defense. Why wouldnt Chamizo be the 'passive wrestler'?
@kellyjohna passivity calls are weird nowadays, because of no overtime and tiebreaker rules. In a tied match the last person to score usually wins by tiebreaker. Because of this they usually call the aggressor for passivity in the first period and then the nonaggressor for passivity in the last period, so the aggressor has the tiebreaking advantage in the end. In this case they didn't need to call Chamizo for passivity in the last period because he was behind. If Dake was behind in the last period they would've called Chamizo for passivity and probably given Dake a point in the end, a tiebreaking point if it was tied.
@JSL That's the way it should be, but the way it actually happens in a close match is the more passive wrestler gets dinged for a point in the first period, and then in the second period he becomes the aggressor because he's behind. He then gets awarded a point and wins due to tiebreaking rules. To prevent this from happening, in international wrestling they usually call passive on the aggressor in the first period. At least that's how it's been explained to me. Notice that for the last 1 1/2 minutes all Dake did was hold on to his lead and he wasn't called for passivity- that's because they already did in the first period. A passivity call would have given Chamizo the win.
@@chadh6855 Actually really good discussion which I didn't expect. Which kind of brings me to another point. I think Frank is the better counter wrestler not to say Kyle isn't a good counter wrestler. But counter wrestling is Franks bread and butter. So how do you call that as a Ref when you have two different styles like that. Because Kyles "feigned" aggressiveness in certain situations (although clearly Kyle is an aggressive wrestler) because he knows his aggressiveness in this situation could cause him to loose the match. How to do you motivate them (by rules) to engage and take risks without interfering with a style of wrestling like Franks ? Because as it stands (in this match) we are having abundance of fake initiations (which is part of the sport) for different reasons; Kyles, because he doesn't want to meet Frank on his strongest point and Frank because it's his predominant style of wrestling.
2 points for a takedown, an automatic win for a pin, 1 point if you go a minute riding time, 1 point if you push them out of bounds, and 1 point for both reversals and escapes correct me if im wrong people. Oh and also i believe the other guy is correct about the back points as well. And also i think you get 3 points for a near fall.
Standard Take down is 2 points. There are also 3,4 and 5 point takedowns. I’m going to attach a link in a moment to help you learn the differences! A force out of bounds is 1. If you get put out on the “shot clock” for passivity and fail to score it’s one point to your opponent. A pin is an automatic win. A technical fall is leading by 10 or more points. Match is stopped then. Matches often end in tech falls because of leg laces and gut wrenches. There is no OT and ties. If it’s tied score goes to criteria winner. Person who scored last takedown. To explain that better I’m going to attach a video! I’m fairly new to freestyle myself!
I really don't like the scoring system of freestyle. Dake was aggressor the entire match, the Italian didn't initiate much of anything, but Dake is put on the shot clock... They took another point away from Dake giving him one point for the take down vs 2.
The sport IS really passive though. How often do you honestly see a guy score more than 6 in a match? From a pure entertainment standpoint, I’d rather watch high school even though I know the level is much worse. They gotta do something to improve the appeal to the viewers.
Nope, it’s about establishing control, meaning you gotta be freed up and on top. If the other guy still has a chest wrap on your for example, he can still flip you. For example, I really don’t think Frank ever established control in the scramble when he sort of got on top for a second. I think the takedown should’ve gone to Dake, but then Dake doesn’t get the reversal either.
Im ok with this one being this close. One point decision seems about what I would expect from these 2. Maybe next time Chamizo gets it. Could be a great rivalry brewing betw these guys.
is there any more rounds of them... i like chamizo i like him as a person but as a wrestler i wish he actually went for the kill, he clearly could have taken him down if he started the assault at the 1minute mark... Dake is a beast but cocky which i never liked in a wrestler, he is good enough to back it up most times... When have you ever seen Dake be the aggressor against grade A+++ comp... Chamizo made him look like one which says allot about their stalling technique get one point ahead and ride that clock.
Lol, go for the kill? Dake has earned the right to be ... "cocky", I see it as confident rather than cocky. He respects others and is not overly boastful. Good role model and kids should try to adopt/ emulate his work ethic. If you don't like him thats fine, but I really don't see him as cocky. They are both defensive wrestlers making it a classic low scoring match. Based on how they congratulated each other at the end I would say they have a great deal of respect for one another. Regardless of what the media wants you to think, or the pre- match scripted hype.
I think it's easy to make these comments from afar, but once you get to the highest levels of this sport it's not very easy to just "go for the kill". he might've been playing it up a bit or using that as a bluff, but he was definitely gassed at the end there and even when you get deep in a shot on Kyle Dake, he's probably going to chest wrap suplex you. I do agree that neither of these guys tend to be based in offensive wrestling overall say compared to a jordan burroughs or zahid valencia, but kyle dake is one of my favorite wrestlers to watch personally because he's so damn explosive but simultaneously demonstrates flawless technique. it's a thing to beholden
Scott Waters I like dake although in college he simply used to get a point and ride it out even when he was three times better than his competition... this tells me he only seeks to win and not dominate which nothing is wrong with but is very boring to watch. Chazimo is not aggressive he is a counter wrestler which means his style feeds into Dake style as oppose to if he were to attempt more shots instead of wait for the last 15 secs to go against a defensive king... if you know the man is a defensive beast you can’t afford to wait the last few secs to go after it you got to go for it in that last minute smartly not giving up points but aggressively if you want to win. Maybe he didn’t care if he won or not ijs, they were clearly gassed in the beginning of the 2nd period.
Kyle dake is one of my favorite wrestlers to watch.. tht being said this match was boring. These guys suppose to be world champs? They were both gassed after the 2 minutes and u could really tell they were both gassed after the first scramble.
