  • We pack a lot into this video as we sail our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran down the Caribbean Island chain. We finally found why our reefing line was chaffing, and we sailed from Antigua to Guadeloupe. After spending a week there, eating lots of delicious French food, hiking waterfalls, and learning how vanilla is grown, we started hauling anchor to leave for Les Saints. But! There's always a BUT. Somehow, our anchor chain got wrapped around a tree that was about 15' long, with branches spreading just as wide.
It took about two hours and the help of Todd, Erin and Will from Sailing Symphony and an awesome boat neighbor (who happened to be from France) to get us free.
Thank you for joining us through these adventures.
    Happy Sailing!

Love the French Accent! Who would have thought one could get anchor chain wrapped around a tree? Crazy.

I love it when Adrienne does her accents. She’s really good at it. Me, not so much. I’ll try and get her to do it let often 😊

Oh my goodness! I’m exhausted! I can’t watch all that hard work without helping from my sofa! Crazy I know, but I was leaning this way and that, willing the tree to go a certain direction, as if it would help! 🤦🏻‍♀️😳😬🥵🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤪🙃
All of you were AMAZING working together to get that ornery anchor loose from that tree! Huge thank yous to everyone who helped out Adrienne and Jeff! I’m so glad the camaraderie and willingness to help runs deep in the sailing community! You all get huge WOO HOOs for a job well done! Now you can relax, have a drink, a good meal and watch another gorgeous sunset! So thankful all is well and everyone is safe! 🙏🏻🥰😘

That chain was really wrapped around the tree. Great work getting it untangled. I'm exhausted just watching

It was like someone purposely wrapped it and tried to make the craziest knot possible! I was totally exhausting getting it released. Thank goodness for great friends and nice French guys nearby!

But maybe a little inappropriate? 😇 Adrienne thought maybe we shouldn’t put that in the video. I said “are you kidding me?”. 😁

Maybe could of wrapped a snag above the tree on the anchor chain and the ten to fifteen feet after the tree and pulled that horse shoe of chain up towards the boat. Could of cork screw the log out of place. I saw the tag line to support the tree though …Happy tree fishing!

Thanks. It was crazy how tightly wrapped the chain was around the tree. It’s like someone tried to make a knot!

Great video, love the hands on stuff and the sailing. Something that may help in the future on untangling the anchor chain, attach the rope to the anchor chain below the tree, secure the rope then let slack out on the chain.

Hum. That May have saved us from deploying the spare anchor which would have been nice. Thanks for the advice

This was my thought as well. Kind of like putting a snubber on the anchor chain. Pull the anchor/tree up as far as you can, put the snubber on the chain below the tree and tie it off tight on a cleat, let the chain out so that the snubber takes the load, chain above the snubber goes slack and can be untwisted from the tree. I was yelling through the screen ! 🙂
Glad you had friends around to help you get it resolved. Really enjoying this channel. Thanks for making these.
