      @@fujinyumi5632 The new arts looks like genéric moe bright colour stuff. The old art is more stylized and it's clearly meant to be like that because of the story and setting. Sharper lines, darker shadows and muted colours for a darker story.
      Stocke's shady looks because he is a spy and an assasin, most characters are meant to look rather sickly or not well, like Viola for an example.
      And the whole issue about how Eruca's new design clashes completely with her purpouse as a rebel princess. Her short hair was meant to represent that and they changed it for a more "waifu" look.

    There's a charm to the original that isn't present in the remake/remaster. Yeah, sure the 3DS version is all flashy and colorful, but something draws me in more to the artwork and voiceless dialogue of the original. The cutscenes added in the new version also leave little to the imagination when playing, at least for me. Still have it pre-ordered and still gonna pick it up. Was gonna trade in the old one for the this, but I think i'll hold on to it. Having the option to play either is a win for me. I'll still enjoy it :)

    • @Heroinedown
      @Heroinedown 6 лет назад +7

      VomitDude I prefer the artworks of the old one, even the sound seems to have a better quality than the new version. The voiceless version seems more fitting to me since I could imagine their voices while in the new one, the voices are a bit out, just not what I would have done. For instance, Rosch is completely done wrong. I'd have picked someone with a really strong voice but instead he sounds like a guy coming straight out of a boysband. For me, the old version is better, it doesn't matter if we don't have the new cinematics or if some scenes have been added, some changes shouldn't have been done.

    While there is no doubt that the 3DS got a slight bump, the DS version still holds up quite well against in that side-by-side. Would have loved to have seen a jag-less 720p/1080p 60fps version on the Switch.

    There's a lot of comments on which one people think is better, but screw it! Their both absolutely stunning! The voices at great in the 3ds version and the art is so amazingly quirky in the ds version, I mean personally I'm still getting the 3ds version because that's the one I have the demo for and can actually find but man, they both look great

      Aw man 10 months after my orginal comment and i got the orginal game a couple months ago but completely forgot about it until a week or two ago. I've almost beat it now and it's in my top 10 favorite games. I just think it's funny that that I said I would most likely get the 3ds version but i got the orginal and while I do still stand by the "their both good" I much prefer the original. Although I do like to listen to the voices again every now again

    • @PineNeedle-Supreme
      @PineNeedle-Supreme 4 года назад +3

      @Sea Monkey I prefer the older one as I like the art style more and I like how everything looks dirtier, using browns and orange instead of black and blue. however I would say get the 3ds version it has multiple different things from allowing you to change your settings to pretty good voice acting and giving more characters drawn sprites. honestly both versions are great in their own right, and it's been a while sense I've played the game so I'm going off memory
      both versions are good, and I'll leave it at that, though I think the 3ds version has a lot more going on that change the experience up. hope this answered what you where asking

    The thing with this game is that is one of the last DS games and it uses the full potential of the system (although it's barely noticeable), the 3DS version looks kinda dated for the system and it even removed the touch controls (why?).

  • @littleTSUBAME

    I can understand how longtime fans might prefer the original designs, but as someone who just recently beat Perfect Chronology and hasn’t played the original, I think they’re both really nice in their own ways.
    Personally I find the old style more unique and that makes it really charming, but the new style on the other hand seems a bit more polished and consistent to me. A bit more generic, yes, but not overly so (saying this as an anime fan, it’s pretty far from ”the generic anime style”). The old art has really nice, deep shadows, but the new art has really pretty colors. Some people say the colorfulness takes away from the tone, but I don’t really think so. It’s still pretty melancholic. Although, since I haven’t played the original, it could be darker. The only thing I really dislike about the new art is how they drastically changed some designs (Eruca...) In the end it comes down to preference, and it’s quite understable you’d get more attached to the style of whichever version you first play.
    It’d be interesting to pick up the original someday, just for the sake of comparison. And also because I wasn’t a fan of how the remake handled the added content. Seriously, they gave you append mode but still refused to give you a proper ending unless you play the extra stuff? I at least wanted ending credits before getting thrown into the third timeline stuff.

    • @d3ly746

      You should really give the original a spin.
      The artwork contrast really impacts the severity and dark tone of the story.
      The original artwork gives the game an air of suspense, the character artwork makes them look suspicious and foreboding, especially for dias and stocke. (I swear you can't even compare new Stocke with original Stocke)

    • @-disneypug-9589
      @-disneypug-9589 4 года назад +3

      There’s a slight error in your phrasing.. Since Teo, Lippti, and the chronicles were created by the power of flux during the time of the empire, they should be older than nine. I honestly think the voices fit because like I said before, they seem to be thousands of years old. But nonetheless, I shall respect your opinion, for I haven’t experienced the original and you seem as one with some sort of information on it.

    • @-disneypug-9589
      @-disneypug-9589 4 года назад +3

      By the way, remember that they live in a literal chasm in time, where no time passes at all, which explains the character design, just in case you need an explanation of why Teo and Lippti seem younger than they’re supposed to be.

    • @bane2201
      @bane2201 Год назад

      Huh, I think their voices fit great. They sound like people who have spent millennia trying to save the world, watched it turn to sand for millennia, but are effectively forced to keep trying.
      There's a resignation / fatigue / hollowness in their voices, like they're mentally going "alright, reroll #92163 for a good history... maybe this time is the charm".
      Point is, they definitely have the "wise WELL beyond their years" vibe. And they don't age in Historia anyway, so it's fitting.

    New character portraits and an anime intro don't really justify full price for a DS port.

  • @DeeVeeTee583
    @DeeVeeTee583 2 года назад +7

    Stocke's introduction is so much better directed in the original version.
    "He is clad in red and rides in the darkness"
    This sequence is puntuated by the button presses. Stocke comes off as focused and driven. If he pauses in the hallway, it's because of you not advancing the scene, and even then, it's still dramatic because it's at Heiss's doorway.
    "His name is Stocke."
    He walks into Heiss's office, it's silent.
    Heiss speaks. it's still silent.
    You press the button to advance the text. An intimidating soundtrack CUTS in for emphasis. The camera pans for emphasis. We finally see Stocke's portrait for the first time, it has a hard shadowy edge, and he tells his grim looking boss to cut to the damn chase.
    The remake ruins this by breaking the scene in the hall to show you a big anime full body art before returning to the scene and having Stocke look down the hall to Heiss's office quizzically and emote "...?".
    This is your first impression of Stocke in PC. A sparkly blonde bishie who looks quizzically down hallways he should be familiar with.

Odd I know, but I got a massive library (when taken as a whole) across multiple systems: Wii/Wii U, Xbox/360/One, Nintendo DS/3DS, Sony PSP and Vita. As such I have not gotten around to playing Radiant Historia, but I will say that I do not like the voice acting. It kills that aspect of my imagination, in which I create my own internal voices for the characters. Lastly from what I have seen of the art differences, is that I could take a little from column a and a little from column b. I really need to make the time to commit to playing this game on my 3DS XL.

    Heiss is the only one that was completly favored/upgraded with the new Art, with Rosch I'm divided, I like both styles. But oh man... Viola, Raynie and Erucca... poor girls they were perfect in the original and they ruined their art.

    It's more like a port than a remake.
    There are a few improvements, like the higher resolution assets like the ground in 2:26, the extended widescreen camera and less jaggies... but since the screen is capable of showing almost all the battleground, they removed the camera movement in battles, making them visually bland.
    Still, I'll choose the 3DS version when I finally decide to play Radiant Historia. More content and resolution are a big plus and I don't mind the new portraits (I can always use the old ones with the DLC).
    Nevertheless, Atlus wasted the oportunity of using all 3DS power in stunning 2D graphics, and the selling the old portraits as a DLC is a cheap move.

    Changed the dialogue as well... Eef, not sure I like that. Art style seems kinds worse too. I don't think the 3ds version added anything new aside from voices and the obligatory Atlus new character in the remaster. Hopefully she's not as bad as Marie.

    Both are great and I like anime so the 3ds version don't bother me. Some of the DS character portraits do look better but the same could be said about a few 3ds character models. To me Heiss' and Teo's 3ds model look better imo, but I've already bought the game so there is no regrets here!

    Adding a generic anime OP with tits never improves a classic-style JRPG. It feels just as garish and out of place in the Etrian Odyssey Untold games, especially since the artists they choose to do these things never have an interesting individual style. It's like some shit you'd see on a pachinko machine.

    I'm curious... were you emulating the DS version or was that being run on a DS? The sound quality between the two is... off. Perfect Chronology sounds pretty terrible based on this video, especially side by side with the original.
    How did you record both of these?

  • @ryans1892

    I don't really see where people are coming from when it comes to the new art. I think it looks fine. And you can change the portraits back to the original art style if want. It kinda sounds like people are trying to justify getting the DS version over the 3DS version. 3DS version is the definitive no doubt.

    While I think the original art is suited for the game much better, the Stocke's sprite in the DS version is too weird looking somehow, the remake makes him better proportioned. Otherwise the tight anime style of the remake is a bit too cute for my taste.

    • @Mqstodon
      @Mqstodon 3 года назад +3

      Well...depends. The original has way more charm, and the art style is more appropriate, but the 3ds version does have a fantastic easy mode that lets you defeat enemies without entering a battle and some new, pointless but also harmless side quests in the form of a third timeline, so i'd say it depends. Prefer the story and atmosphere? Play the original. Prefer the gameplay? See if the gameplay changes interest you, and then choose the nee version if they do and the original if they don't

    Someone enlighten me: Is the new content in append mode a post-game extra you can play through with your save or do you have to start a NG+ and beat the whole game again?

    • @Talal_111
      @Talal_111 6 лет назад +2

      João Ribeiro You won’t have to play ng+, the new content will be available after you beat the game. while the ‘perfect’ mode will have it mixed in. at least that’s how I understood it

      Talal To be fair I'm only about 40% through and will say I'm a bit too powerful. But I'm on normal - so I assume hard or deadly mode will serve better if you want the challenge. But I can tell you the story is enhanced if you do it as you go - whole lot of "lore" thats added

    • @summerycast7936
      @summerycast7936 6 лет назад +1

      Talal
      The new content doesn't ruin the pace. It's more like side missions you can do in your spare time and the time makes it very clear of that. You do get introduced to a new character, but she is never integral to the main plot. She meets with Stocke alone a few times and then waits for him on her ship. So there's nothing to worry about!
