Sarah you are such a gift to us all! Fabulous teacher, so easy to follow and enjoyable to listen to! I am a beginner and watch you and I now have a growing list of projects I want to have a go at! Your videos are always the highlight of my day! I feel so thankful that I came across your channel! Please don’t stop!
I just recently found you on You Tube. You are such a joy to watch and learn from. I find it very relaxing and appreciate the knowledge you share. Cheers from Ohio, USA.
My attitude is that if a day goes past without me learning something then it has been a day wasted. I'd say that your time spent travelling is one of your best investments - the exposure to other cultures is something of immense value especially if you are of a creative nature. When I decided that I needed to get an idea of what can be done with embroidery I had a look at a few youtube channels and have to say that yours stands out simply because of you. You communicate very well and at a pace that even my slow grey matter can take in. The fact that you are UK based and have a shop where I can buy any supplies I might need are bonuses that I'm happy to take. Having started off just wanting an insight into gold work (which I thought was all there was to embroidery) I'm finding my brain pulled in all sorts of different directions thanks to your wealth of great videos so thank you very much for massively increasing my work load!!! 🤣😁🤗💐
I’ve been so glad I found your channel. You’ve been like a friend over the past couple of years and I always look forward to your content. I’ve also recommended your channel to so many people I’ve met who either wanted to learn embroidery or who were having trouble finding instruction on a certain technique. It’s grown because you’re such a good teacher and put so much time and effort into your content. It’s been a huge inspiration to me personally.
Hi Sarah, I am probably one of your most recent viewers, but I have learnt so much from you already. I have been an avid Cross Stitcher for many years but recently changed lanes to the most enjoyable experience of learning the art of embroidery. Stumpwork has also recently caught my attention. You make it so easy to follow and learn, thank you and keep up the good work 😊
I loved this video. I found your channel recently and I’ve learned so much from you. You are a phenomenal teacher. I can’t thank you enough for so generously sharing your knowledge and skill with us.
Came for the embroidery stayed for the cats. Thanks. Your journey is inspiring. Personally, I started as a geologist, then stayed home with my 4 children, now I’m a nurse.
Greetings from sunny Coventry in England. What a surprise to hear you were brought up here. I found your channel last year and it's been a source of inspiration ever since. Love this latest video. Your stitch tutorials are clear and easy to follow and a joy to watch , many thanks.
I’m so glad I found your videos. I’m an amateur American who has spent more than 50 years practicing needlework, sewing and cross stitch. I love your videos and learn something new with each video. My engineer husband was shocked that you gave up on engineering. I’m not so shocked because he is very artistic with drawing, and now computer art. Thank you for the wonderful content.
Sarah you have a very adventurous life, I agree with you that teaching embroidery is challenging as I used to teach fashion students embroidery I do visit you on RUclips regularly Compliments to your ability to make embroidery so interesting for others
You have that voice that flows so nicely when your teaching/showing people how to do your craft. I love watching you. So easy going. You make it look so easy. I am happy to see that you have so many followers here on RUclips.
Lovely to have a chit chat with you. Your interest is infectious. What an interesting journey to get to where you are. You come across as a natural teacher - always clear and concise. Thank you. I look forward to the next one.
Sure did enjoy this. When I recently found your channel, I was thinking this endearing woman is a Master Embroiderer who has mastered a skill and stuck with it. Thank you for sharing your other hobbies as I was beginning to think (in my senior years) that I should have stuck with one art and stuck with it instead of dabbling in a whole lot, including painting (which is generally not considered a fabric art). Your pursuit of various arts has validated my interest in so many. Love your channel and have so many videos to catch up on. THANK YOU!
Great to hear your story I really enjoyed it. Your a great teacher, thank you. I love that you do lots of things around your stitching like drawing, painting n playing with beads, I’m like that too, anything shiny. Your round, jungle painting is fabulous. I’m so glad I’ve stumbled across you, really looking forward to learning so much more from you. You speak so well n I’m sure your hubby edit’s really well too, thanks to you both 😊
HELLO from SEATTLE WA! Just found you while searching for help with embroidery. My grandmother taught me how to embroider when I was a small child. I am returning to it, now that I am close to retirement. I love your videos! Thank You for being on RUclips!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Your videos are a "go to" every time I need to learn something or go back to when I have forgotten how to do something . Thank you.
I've just taken up embroidery, having not done anything like this since junior school, when it was the only craft girls did! I have learnt so much from watching your videos, and now I'm going to make a needle book to sort and store my needles. Whilst watching your video of making a needle book, I suddenly remembered my mother's sewing box, which included a 1 page red felt needle holder, a bit raggety, but made by one of my older sisters when they were in junior school. Very long forgotten memory ❤
Sarah: I could never quite get the hang of meditation but I so love embroidery and I find the repetition of the stitches and the act of concentrating on my piece has the same effect. According to my Apple Watch I noticed my heart rate goes down while I am working on something. It is so amazing to create something useful and beautiful. So, thank you for providing gentle instruction and for furthering the art.
Oh my, thank you for sharing your wonderful memories. Just a lovely post. I so enjoying learning your skills of embroidery. By this post you have a lot of talent.
Funny how I am listening to you now here in the Philippines whilst unravelling a skein of silk embroidery thread that I bought from your Royal School of Needlework shop in Hampton Court during a visit when I brought my beloved mum for a tour back in 2001! How strange. Thank you so much for sharing your works but especially how you do them. You are so inspiring. Your works are beautiful. Just watching you do the embroideries relaxes the mind, mesmerising. Has kept me sane if not many more during this pandemic. Thank you very much, Miss Sarah Homfray. x
Thank you Sarah for your fab videos. I have just returned to embroidery after many years having only really learnt the basics with my Grandmother. I'm soon to be 54 and decided to get a kit and now I'm hooked. In just a few weeks I've gone from a beginners kit to designing and drawing my own patterns to embroider. I feel like a kid that has just entered a sweet shop for the first time. Absolutely loving learning more through your videos.
I feel as if we have sat down with a pot of tea to chat! What marvelous opportunities you have had in your life thus far, starting with your 8 month travel! 32 countries? Wonderful! I have traveled but you top the cake with your worldwide excursion! I envy the experience, knowledge and training you had at RNS. Yes it sounds like it was very challenging and tiring with the deadlines you described. But you learned quite a bit, knowledge that will be with you for the rest of your life. And best of all, you found your niche, which is teaching, and you discovered it while you were still young. I recall a professor stating that every person has a talent within themselves, buried like a diamond in the rough. Its just a matter for each of us to find it and polish it until it shines. Well, you certainly found yours Sarah. You are a marvelous embroiderer and an excellent teacher, there is no doubt about it. You have the knowledge, the passion, AND you the gifted ability to pass that knowledge on to the students! And you successfully do that with every class you record. I work at a college and I have observed over the years good professors and not so good professors. They all have the education and knowledge of course. But not all know how to explain the subject clearly and help students understand. So trust me when I say you are an wonderful teacher! I am very glad to have found your channel and I suscribed a week or so ago. I am trying to get back to embroidering ..something my mother taught me as a child and I had left it all behind when I was a teenager. It was many moons ago..I am now 63. But I believe I can start again. With your video courses, its only a matter of practice and being patient with myself. I look forward to catching up on your past videos and my goodness you have so many! I always enjoy watching you teach and I enjoy seeing your kitties when they decide to do a cameo appearance! Never stop teaching Sarah! And thank you for all your hard work. You are most appreciated!
You definitely have a gift for teaching. You explain things so clearly and in a way that’s easy to understand you also have a really calm and encouraging manner thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all we appreciate it x
Loved the video as always. I found some embroidery that my Mum had done in the 1950s and wondered if I could do it. Got some books, found her hoop and put some calico in it and began to teach myself, with some success. Then I found you tube and yout videos, which are slowly taking me to a whole other level. I have had to retire because of chronic illness and your videos have given me a new 'job'. Never underestimate what a difference you and your husband (and cats of course) can make to people's lives with these videos and your amazing talent.. Keep 'em coming Sarah. X
That's so kind of you Lee, it's wonderful to know these videos make a small difference to someones life somewhere. Thank you for watching in return and supporting our little channel! x
Sarah, thank you for letting us get to know you a little better. Your expertise and the manner in which you present it make it so enjoyable and not intimidating at all! In spite of your Royal School of Needlework training, you have a modest and friendly way about you when you could so easily be a bit stuffy. ;-) I thoroughly enjoy all of your videos. I have been embroidering for over 60 years and yet I continue to learn from your video instructions. Please keep on sharing your skills with us. Best wishes!!! Diane
Loved hearing about your background! Especially the transformation from a boilermaker engineer to exquisite embroiderer. Have just discovered your RUclips channel, having decided at the age of 71 to have a go at embroidery. Your tutorials are SO helpful!
Hello! Just a short note to say how much I enjoy the content on your channel. I have had a busy and crazy day in my sewing room but now I'm get to watch your video! I hope you have a happy Easter weekend ahead! Thank you for posting is video and your expertise.
I love to learn new skills too for example I also love to draw with black and Sepia colours, painting also, felting and I write poetry so very much like yourself love to try new things. Plus sculpting with clay have done. Journaling is another nice thing to do too nice and relaxing.
Oh dear, to see the Queen Mother's garment up close. *swoons* . . It's so lovely that you share this story of your personal experiences with us. I really enjoy your videos. And the Kitty cats. Wow the round painting!. I will have to go to Instagram to see more. Thank you
Loved this video! Nice to have some background and I look forward to more chit chat! You are a very very talented artist! The elephants at 12:26 would be amazing in embroidered French & colonial knots - very inspiring!
What an astonishing journey you’ve had Sarah, (pun intended) you were very brave to cross Africa in a jeep, my travels have always been in comfort, I don’t have your fortitude! I can well imagine that Katmandu was inspiring and I’m sure the vast variety of arts you have seen in their native countries has opened your mind to all kinds of possibilities. I was stunned by the piece you did of king Tut for your finals, fabulous! Your enthusiasm is very inspiring!
Hi Sarah! As soon as I got home today, I couldn’t wait to turn on RUclips for your new chat video. You’re an an awesome embroidery artist and I’ve learned so much! Thank you for giving so much of yourself to teach us a traditional art.
Thank you Sarah, it's really good to see how people start out in one direction in life and then life takes them in a completely different one. When I was doing some RSN day classes, my Mum asked me why the RSN? My reply was simple, if I'm going to learn, I might as well take advantage of being taught by the best in the world. She fully agreed. Lovely to see Miss Pinky putting in an appearance. My 4 cats think she's rather camera shy! Exactly like their Mum.
It has been great listening to your story about the travelling and the different career turns in your life. Your being an engineer who loves embroidering is fascinating! I am looking forward to hearing more chats. Than you, Sarah!
I love this chit-chat video format! I definitely want to improve my drawing skills so I can design better embroidery patterns. I would be super interested to hear more about how you design patterns. Thank you so much, I get a lot of both joy and knowledge from your videos!
It was lovely getting to know more about your journey & what inspired you in the first place. A rare treat to see Pinky cat, not quite the scene stealer that Ginger cat is. I have to mention your sketch of the elephants, it was absolutely stunning! I happen to have a real soft spot for them, so I may be biased but it really is beautiful.
Sarah, I truly enjoyed hearing about your journey to textiles and embroidery. I have often thought how wonderful it would have been for me to pursue a career (in retrospect at 66+.) My mother taught me all domestic things: sewing, needlework, cooking and housekeeping; however, I wish I had been steered towards continuing education in needlework as well as cooking/baking, which I also love. I believe we should continue to learn something new each day! The world is a wonderful place! Thank you for sharing your story. I would not have understood the additional asset of drawing and painting in needlework!
Really enjoyed your chit chat. I wish I had gone down that road of education like you . Golly that was a lot of hard work but glad you did as we all benefit now. Keep up the hard work. Margaret
I was only thinking today I wonder how Sarah started in embroidery? A boiler maker would be the last start I imagined you doing. I found this video fascinating learning more about you. 👌💕
Hi Sarah I've just found you a couple of weeks ago on RUclips and i find it very helpful I'm just starting and i love it. I've got some of the free downloads there thank you brilliant and watching you teaching us the propper way thats very helpful thank you so much your an inspiration 💜
It's always so interesting to me to learn how people started becoming RUclipsrs. It seems like a lot of people got their start by uploading videos intended for a small audience of known people, but those videos ended up getting attention from strangers.
That was so interesting to hear how you came to embroidery through travel and particularly your time in Kathmandu. I can't think of a better turn a career could take! Pinky Cat obviously finds you as relaxing to listen to as we all do.
Loved this session. Women need to talk with other women to remain healthy. I have brought up my skills to a new level thanks to your youTube postings, and happily found treasures in the shop. Thank you for being there.
Hi from Bristol. Lovely to hear how you started. You are right it is good to learn new skills. I sew, knit, crochet and am learning to needle punch and embroider. Drawing, no can do. I once went to a drawing class and I left the course because I couldn't do it.😖. Perhaps, I will try learning again. Would love to be able to draw flowers. Your drawings and painting are fabulous. You are talented. Thank you for sharing. 👍🏿
You needed to stay on the course to learn it Katz!! Like anything worth learning it takes time and if you can do all of those other creative things then you can learn to draw some flowers definitely. I'll look at that for a future video!
Awesome Sarah! I love hearing about how you got into embroidery and your background. I love stitching but right now I mostly do cross stitch. I would love to learn embroidery. I love taking classes and expanding my knowledge. I am always eager to learn. Keep the videos coming. Thank you for doing these videos.
Sarah, loved getting to know you. As a retired teacher may I say you have excellent teaching skills! At the moment I am working on toss pillow covers for couches and chairs. I have completed several that were purchased as kits and also buying covers that I embellish with embroidery. I love your videos and find them so enjoyable and helpful!
Your presentation is amazing! Thank you! You really know how to teach Just so helpful to understanding that embroidery is visual and your accent is so soothing to listen to!
The RSN! Wow, what a great opportunity. I've seen some works from students at the RSN and they are always gorgeous. American women like me don't have a traditional school like that, sadly - at least that I know of where I am in the midwest. Like you I have always had an interest in embroidery but rarely had the time until the pandemic. Your videos have been extremely helpful in getting going and setting up. BTW - That is a beautiful textile hanging behind you - from your travels? Thanks for posting this glimpse into your embroidery life.
I want to thank you for sharing your skills of embroidery. I’ve been embroidering since I was four years old. But it wasn’t until I saw you on utube did I have any idea of increasing my skill in embroidery. I haven’t done it yet but I will. Thank you for sharing with everyone your love and skill of embroidery.jenny
My Colleage set up the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design, perhaps you can take a vacation that way! Search them on Google to find their website...
I think you're a fantastic artist, teacher, and business woman. Isn't it funny to look back and see how differently our paths have wandered from where we thought we would tread?
LOVED the chit chat session! I've played with (a wee bit) some needlefelting and embroidery. I've done the needlefelting directly to an emboidery piece (with some success) And ive tried needlefelting and Punch needle as appliques to an embroidered piece, again with some success. I would love to learn more. Thank you for all that do you!
Hello...I'm so glad I found your channel and all you share. I love embroidery, slow stitching, and textile art. Most of what I've learned are from UK based artists. Sadly, there isn't a lot of interest in the subject over here in the US. Cheers.💚
Hello Sarah, Wow! This totally makes sense of why you’re such a great teacher - it’s because you truly are passionate & love what you do - learning how to embroidery from a zero background & then having an awesome opportunity to have an apprenticeship in Hampton Court is a true indication that this is exactly what you were meant to be doing!! And - all this simply came as the result of losing your job & deciding to taken a traveling adventure!! That shows that 1 thing can completely change the course of your life!! I so happy for you & fir all of us - your subscribers/followers👍🏻🤗👍🏻👏🏻! Thank you for telling us this incredible story👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!
Wonderful video, Sarah. I love imagining you going out on your own in such a different direction from mechanical engineering. And traveling! How brave you were!
It was nice to hear about how you got into all of this. I'd picked up bits and pieces of it from your other videos but it's nice to hear a single coherent and comprehensive explanation of your background. 😀
Hi Sarah, I have enjoyed your chit chat video, it was very interesting you talking about your life and embroidery journey and also being at the RSN. It was well worth all your hard work and you inspire lots of people to give things a go. Enjoy your Easter break.
Great video! Love, love your style of teaching! I'm a visual artist who is working with acrylic paintings on paper and using embroidery for final touches, 3-D effects! Have learned so much from you! Thank you☺️

Hello! Just a short note to say how much I enjoy the content on your channel. I have had a busy and crazy day in my sewing room but now I'm get to watch your video! I hope you have a happy Easter weekend ahead! Thank you for posting is video and your expertise.
Thanks a lot, for sharing a part of your embroidery life. When someone is open to life, many new things, can come. A hug
Thanks for sharing! Your stitching is beautiful!
I love to learn new skills too for example I also love to draw with black and Sepia colours, painting also, felting and I write poetry so very much like yourself love to try new things. Plus sculpting with clay have done. Journaling is another nice thing to do too nice and relaxing.
You have lots of skills Lara!
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery thank you yeah sure do lols
Oh dear, to see the Queen Mother's garment up close. *swoons* . . It's so lovely that you share this story of your personal experiences with us. I really enjoy your videos. And the Kitty cats. Wow the round painting!. I will have to go to Instagram to see more.
Thank you
Found this so interesting thank you for sharing x
Thank you Sarah. This was delightful - ❤️💐❤️
Loved this video! Nice to have some background and I look forward to more chit chat! You are a very very talented artist! The elephants at 12:26 would be amazing in embroidered French & colonial knots - very inspiring!
You are such a delightful person! Enjoyed learning about you and love your videos for embroidery. You have a great style in teaching. Thank you!
The folly of youth!
Hi Sarah! As soon as I got home today, I couldn’t wait to turn on RUclips for your new chat video. You’re an an awesome embroidery artist and I’ve learned so much! Thank you for giving so much of yourself to teach us a traditional art.
And thank you for watching Karen and supporting our channel
Thanks nice to hear about your journey. Greetings from south africa
Pinky is more discerning than Ginger Cat who is currently sitting on the paperwork I need to deal with!
You have deffently been the biggest inspiration,to me to begin embroderi again and you are a wunderfull teacher and I love all your videos 🥰
Thank you!
Thank you Sarah for sharing your story. I enjoy your videos and learning from your vast knowledge and experience of hand embroidery👍
It has been great listening to your story about the travelling and the different career turns in your life. Your being an engineer who loves embroidering is fascinating! I am looking forward to hearing more chats. Than you, Sarah!
You create beautiful art in all forms!!
Good to meet you Sarah, that was really interesting. Thank you
I love this chit-chat video format! I definitely want to improve my drawing skills so I can design better embroidery patterns. I would be super interested to hear more about how you design patterns. Thank you so much, I get a lot of both joy and knowledge from your videos!
Do check out my Sarah Homfray Creates channel Addie, as there are some videso on there about designing...
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery Thank you I'll check them out!
Thank you so much for sharing! Love your channel- and love your art!
You are an amazing Artist. Thank you for sharing your beautiful skills!
Sarah, I truly enjoyed hearing about your journey to textiles and embroidery. I have often thought how wonderful it would have been for me to pursue a career (in retrospect at 66+.)
My mother taught me all domestic things: sewing, needlework, cooking and housekeeping; however, I wish I had been steered towards continuing education in needlework as well as cooking/baking, which I also love.
This video is really mind blowing. Only very few , who are blessed can have such rich experiences in life . God Bless you.
Hi Sarah I've just found you a couple of weeks ago on RUclips and i find it very helpful I'm just starting and i love it. I've got some of the free downloads there thank you brilliant and watching you teaching us the propper way thats very helpful thank you so much your an inspiration 💜
Thank you Dolores, and welcome onboard!
Wonderful! You are so lovely and generous with teaching! I love your art!,,
It's always so interesting to me to learn how people started becoming RUclipsrs.
So glad I found you on RUclips. Your are a master at your work. Very beautiful!
Loved this session. Women need to talk with other women to remain healthy. I have brought up my skills to a new level thanks to your youTube postings, and happily found treasures in the shop. Thank you for being there.
And thank you for watching Susan! x
Thank you that was interesting and enjoyable I always loved sewing and especially embroidery how ever iam now 82 yrs and not as good anymore

@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery Thanks for the info. Unfortunately that is not possible right now for me, but in the future?? Who knows!
I think you're a fantastic artist, teacher, and business woman. Isn't it funny to look back and see how differently our paths have wandered from where we thought we would tread?
Isn't hindsight wonderful? I could have saved years not doing rubbish jobs!
I love getting to know about the content creators I follow. Your journey is very interesting and I hope to learn more about you. Thank you!
Thanks Sarah your a wonderful teacher. I recommend your videos to everyone want to learn more about embroidery
Thank you!
I've tried stitching on felt but never felting on my stitching Karen! Something new to try...
Hello...I'm so glad I found your channel and all you share. I love embroidery, slow stitching, and textile art. Most of what I've learned are from UK based artists. Sadly, there isn't a lot of interest in the subject over here in the US. Cheers.💚
Love the chit chat format and getting to know about you.
Hello Sarah,
Wow!
Great to learn more about you
Wonderful video, Sarah. I love imagining you going out on your own in such a different direction from mechanical engineering. And traveling! How brave you were!
Nothing is dangerous when you are 21!
It was nice to hear about how you got into all of this. I'd picked up bits and pieces of it from your other videos but it's nice to hear a single coherent and comprehensive explanation of your background. 😀
Fascinating. Thank you for sharing your story. Really enjoying your content.
It was enjoyable to know mor about you and your embroidery training.
Hi Sarah, I have enjoyed your chit chat video, it was very interesting you talking about your life and embroidery journey and also being at the RSN. It was well worth all your hard work and you inspire lots of people to give things a go. Enjoy your Easter break.
Thanks!
Thank you for your support x
Great video! Love, love your style of teaching! I'm a visual artist who is working with acrylic paintings on paper and using embroidery for final touches, 3-D effects! Have learned so much from you! Thank you☺️
I really enjoyed this chit chat. I would be happy if you did more of them.😊
I enjoyed hearing your story, it was excellent! Thank you Sarah for sharing yourself and your knowledge with us. Take Care, Merry Christmas!!!
Hi Sarah, I belong to a craft group and I always recommend you to new broilers. Excellent camera work and explanation. Thank you so much, Fidele
