- A lockdown in Shanghai, China, has kept the city’s 25 million residents confined to their homes for the last 12 days. Some citizens of the world’s third largest city have taken to screaming from their apartment windows in protest. The government has been delivering vegetables to homes, while some neighbors have improvised a barter system. CNN reporter David Culver says government workers have “sealed” front doors to discourage people from leaving.
If this happened in the U.S, people would be setting fire to the entire apartment complex

I stayed in an apartment building in Vietnam with a tiny elevator that you couldn’t turn around in with a backpack on and the alternative stairs were 18” wide. It would be a total death trap in a fire. They don’t have the safety standards we take for granted in the west.
How do you think they take care of buildings that complaine.

this video is benign. Dozens of frustrated and depressed shanghai citizens have been resorting to suicide by straight jumping out their apartments. Residents forced out of their apartments and have had their homes forcefully seized by the government to be turned into quarantine centers. Insufficient food and supplies rationed out to the trapped citizens, with many of the foods supplied to them being past expiration date and already rotten, animals and pets brutally abused and killed by authorities as well. I felt so bad for the people shouting that they were hungry. There is so much problem with being locked up especially when you run out of toiletries/food/medicine. I know that they have to use delivery but many have said it's hard to get orders through when there's so many people.
It's like the movie Quarantine about the reporter and the fire fighters locked in with some apartment residents, except for the fact that it's an entire city instead of one apartment building in the city.

I am currently living in shanghai. As a student, our school has gone to distant learning, and everyone is indeed locked in their apartments. Online shopping sites like taobao and jindong has shut down due to overload demand and lack of delivery force. It is extremely difficult for people to get food, especially elders who have little insights into modern technology and online food-ordering (which even the young population need to fight over eg. wake up at 6:00 and 8:30 and hit the buy button within five seconds before everything is sold out). Fingers crossed we will be freed soon.

It's like screaming here in Buenos Aires when national team scores. You feel the vibrations in the air going through you.. Except this is the opposite.. Those voices in agony go through you. I spent months in strict lock down here due to covid and at one point it was exiting the house every seven days 2 hour for supplies and back. After couple months you go s little insane. I'm still not comfortable in crowded places after 2 years. Thousands in Shangai can go insane. Will go.

This made me think of when my son was a baby. One day I woke and my body completely stopped making milk and I had none in the freezer. I had to go to the store multiple times trying to find formula that he would drink. If I had been in a situation like this where I couldn't leave the house, my son would have starved to death! I can't imagine not being able to leave my house to go to the store!
