Good on Dellandrea and the Stars for this move. Ty deserves more opportunity to be on a roster and play meaningful minutes. He may never make top six forward, but believe he can be a middle six forward for a squad looking to develop young talent. Wish him the best.
Goodrow had a modified no trade clause so more than likely the Sharks would have been on that list so they couldn't have traded him even if they tried
Exactly this. New York skirted a no trade clause and San Jose got a player who didn’t want to be there. That’s the sweetener
I just can't imagine Goodrow having the Sharks on his ntc. Knowing the history he has with the team, it just doesn't seem right even if the Sharks are in a rebuild
@@anonymousperson3023 his career is near the sunset. He wants to win, not be a tank commander
I will always love you,
San Jose❤
San Jose was probably included in Goodrow's ntc. This was their way around that
No issues with the Sharks just claiming Goodrow. If he'd just been released/bought out, he could've just signed with anybody. This way they were sure to get him and actually used some of that "hafta use" money on a 4th liner. So now they don't have to do any real bad contracts to get to the floor. He kills penalties really well, has played here before and is physical.
His value is leadership/lockerroom. He has won before. Plus he is a solid bottom 6 player. Makes sense... kinda.
Wish Delly the best, just felt like it wasn’t working here in Dallas; I think this fresh start will be good for him.
This
Well said. Delly is a class act, would like him to do well - even if it isn’t with my Stars!
Markstrom is 34, a big young project defensman and a 1st is a fine return.
the 2 million retained is the real rough part. Prob would have wanted a bit more for that retention.
@crushdavis7048 exactly with retention they should have got more
@crushdavis7048 Calgary is retooling and there's only 2 years left on the contract. They can eat up 2m. It's not like they're going on a deep playoff run and need the cap space to load up. Without the retention jersey either flat out says no or gives a 2nd (or 2nd and 3rd) instead of a 1st. Devils need the cap space more than the flames do. If there's like 4+ years left on the contract then sure retention can hurt the flames. but not in their position for the next 2 years
The cap hit isn't even horrible for the Sharks, Will Smiths rookie contract runs out the same year as Goodrow, Eklunds the year before that and pretty much no other contracts at all that lasts longer then this so it does kinda fit into the rebuild time-line of when you want the Sharks to start returning towards a playoff contention and have some money free for UFA signings plus their own RFAs. On the way there Goodrow will provide good leadership and a veteran presence that has won the Cup with the Lightning. Also the modified no trade clause might have included SJS aswell we don't have any information on that.
Vlasic contract runs out the year before, Couture contract runs out the same year as Goodrow, the retained salary on both Burns and Karlsson is gone that year aswell and buyout penalty for Martin Jones. So yeah going into the 27/28 season is when they have had time to develop the last years top draft picks into younger stars and should have the cap space to add UFAs to complement the team and start working towards that contender status once again. If things are done right of course, it did after all take quite some time to get out of some of the horrible deals that Doug Wilson signed at the tail end of his tenure at the Sharks.
GOODROW IS HOME LMAO
Sadface from a rangers fan....
As a Sharks fan I like both these moves. We bring back a fan favorite in Goodrow and give up little for a young Dellandrea. Grier needed to shake things up and this still gives us enough cap room for a big day on July 1st.
I think a concern is they also need to hit the cap floor. They have 30 million in cap space, their primary concern should be spending it
@@kaz7690 they have 10 unsigned forwards, 4 unsigned defencemen, and 1 unsigned goalie. I'll imagine that they'll sign a good amount of those guys. I don't think they are bring back Labanc, Hoffman, or Barabonov so technically they have 7 unsigned forwards
@@insanum666 I think they may be willing to keep barabonov, but outside Couture, Zetterlund and Granlund I feel like Mike Grier wants to wipe the slate clean with forwards in favor of signing fresh faces to support players like Eklund and Bordeleau. Which would hopefully be up to caliber by the time cap space is sufficient for them to compete for big free agent signings.
@@johnnynonagon From what I understand they have already claimed they are going to part ways with Hoff, Labamc, and Barby. Barby might be nice to keep but I'm unsure how'd he do with Smith/Ceoebrini. This is unless the story being reported was complete bullshit
@@johnnynonagon Grier has already mentioned Barabonov will not be coming back
This feels like confirmation that Dallas is about to re-sign Sam Steel.
I hope so, steel was a strong player this season, good defensive play and he’s got a good motor.
I hope he finds a home
Glad to have goodie back he’s the hometown hero!
Will he produce though????😮😮😮
Sadface from NY
Huge W for the Sharks. Dellandrea has more in him than he got out in Dallas.
Let’s go what a move today for San Jose we saw zetterlund rise in San Jose hoping dellandrea can do the same
As Stars fan Dellandrea's offensive production in last 2 seasons most of it came from being on a line with Johnston and Benn, but when he wasn't on line with Benn and Johnston his production was very minimal
PLD to Washington. I smell a new video incoming...
Thank god. Coming from a Kings Fan. One for one with no retention.
Kuzy 2.0
My reaction to your comment was "What????!!!!!" His fourth team, now. There's got to be more to this than just one "down" year. Cancer in the locker room, perhaps?
@@wendyg.97 the Jets wanted to keep him, but he wanted out. He told management that and they traded him and got a great return. That's much more admirable than what Tavares did to the islanders.
New Jersey just made the 2025 playoff race way more interesting...
Hershey got pentaltized :30 into last night's game. Team was pentaltized a Bench Minor for Incorrect Starting Lineup. Coachella Valley scored during that Power Play.
Here comes the PLD-Kuemper trade news video
Sharks needed some leadership and also needed to spend money to hit the salary floor to avoid the penalty so it’s a good move
I bet he will be thrilled to play for the Sharks after they circumvented his no trade list.
If the NHL doesn't like trades to happen during the SCF maybe don't have the finals go until the end of June
Right
Shannon I think the word you were looking for was Yeeted.
THANK YOU SAN JOSE
Cap floor and hope he has a stellar season having more ice time , maybe get some value to rent him out
Calgary got more then i expected for him honestly
It's funny how even the GMs are bored of the Final
Craziest thing about Gretzky having 47 points in a playoff run, is, if I remember correctly. He did it in 16 games.
LA picked up Darcy again for PLD, what a day
Sad to see Delly go, but it just never worked out great with the Stars, hopefully he can get going with the Sharks, he deserves a real chance
thats exactly why you dont draft off the board with 1st round picks
The Flames return off the Markstrom trade looks reasonable.
Weak
The Sharks are still well below the salary floor. By placing Goodrow on waivers it voids the 15 team no trade clause. The Sharks bring back a fan favorite and get closer to the salary floor.
The Cup Final as is this year is too much late.
Moves being made before the draft and start of the next NHL year.
I’d imagine the reason why Sharks couldn’t get anything in return was that Goodrow has some sort of no move clause on his contract that prevented him being traded there
7:05 I believe the proper term is _Xcreted._
Goodrow has Stanley Cup Experience watching Kutcherov, Point, And the rest of the Lightning players. He was and is again a Shark that had to work hard to make it in the NHL. Lots of lessons for the young Sharks. Plus, he can probably be traded for a pick in the next few years.
"Markstrom excited to move his family to New Jersey" LOL - I get why he said that from a joining the team perspective, but the idea of anybody excited to move to New Jersey in general Just sounds funny
The Sopranos , Jersey Shore and Tommy DeVito of the NY Giants have entered the chat
@@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants haha - The markstrom family is going to be ecstatic to have snooki as a neighbor! Don't worry, I'll leave the cannoli 😆
@@spmiller6377Almost the entire jersey shore cast is from Staten Island NY.

Yeah it's expensive but you get what you pay for and have the benefits of living near NYC without the downsides of living in a city of 8.5mil.
I grew up in NJ. Not many places in the country where within an hour drive you can be in a large city, the middle of the woods, the beach, a ski slope, etc.
Some of the wealthiest communities, best schools, best dining, shopping.
If you have $$ it’s a great place to be.
@@raoulduke3770 I'm in DC, went to UMD. Yeah, the whole east coast DC to Boston is accessible like that which is nice. It was actually all the dudes from Jersey that cracked jokes about it being NY's armpit. Other than having to drive a half mile past a left turn because of jersey walls on some roads and the obnoxiously high tolls on the turnpike I got no issues with it
Goodrow the vegas slayer is back !!!!!!!!!!!
As a Sharks fan I’ve defended every move Grier has made so far. But this Goodrow one… I can’t find a way to justify claiming him off waivers when you could’ve had the Rangers pay you to take him
The prevailing theory is Sharks were on his no trade list and this was a way to circumvent that
Maybe paving the way for another deal with NYR down the road. Plenty of cap space to fill.
I think that’s the signaling here - that Goodrow’s value to the Sharks org wasn’t low enough where they are bargaining to get him at his lowest. As a Rangers fan I like that he got picked up off waivers not because we got rid of him, but because it means he still has a place in this league. He’s a good leader and will do well with the Sharks imo!
Because they rangers wouldn't pay to take him. Just waive him then buy him out... saves assets, buyout penalty is actually not bad. If you are the Rangers, waive him and let someone take him. If they don't now you buy him out. His contract is buyout friendly.
It's a no big deal for the sharks. That's the kind of guy you want on your bottom 6. Plus the money is no big deal considering they're going to have to spend to get to the cap FLOOR. You need these gritty guys to help protect smith and celibrini and some of the other young guys coming up
I’m gonna miss Delly; I hope he has a great time in San Jose. Great character guy and excellent role player, he just got pushed out of the forward group bc the Stars’ depth is insane. Take care of him Sharks fans 🫡
4:16 "I really figure the extra day off in between is because the travel between Florida and Edmonton being what it is and everything."
The extra day in between on travel days in the cup final has been a thing for a long time.
2016: May 30th/June 1st (Pitt), June 4th/June 6th (SJ), June 9th (Pitt), June 12th (SJ).
2017: May 29th/31st (Pitt), June 3rd/5th (NSH), June 8th (Pitt), June 11th (NSH)
2018: May 28th/30th (Vegas), June 2nd/4th (WSH), June 7th (Vegas)
2019: May 27th/29th (BOS), June 1st/3rd (STL), June 6th (BOS), June 9th (STL), June 12th (BOS)
2020 was in the bubble so there was no travel, games were September 19th, 21st, 23rd, 25th, 26th, and 28th.
2021 didn't have the extra day for travel and the playoffs was more condensed because they were trying to get back towards a "normal" schedule (final started June 28th)
2022 they were still working towards a normal schedule. June 15th/18th (COL, presumably a prescheduled event at the arena on the 17th), June 20th/22nd (Tampa), June 24th (COL), June 26th (Tampa)
2023: June 3rd/5th (Vegas), June 8th/10th (Florida), June 13th (Vegas).
One thing I liked about Dellandrea, he hustles no matter what. Even if the team is down 0-7 he's still hustling. Good player.
Grier nailed it with this one
I'm okay with the Goodrow move. I agree it's weird that they just got him off waivers, but god am I happy to hear Goody is back in teal. San Jose needs him, and the fans want him.
Glad Rangers got 3.6 million off the books
Really hope Delly gets some time in San Jose and breaks out. One of the nicest guys and was great with fans during his time in Flint.
Nice I was thinking that the Sharks should claim Goodrow
Mollie Walker from New York Post had reported the Goodrow claim was a prearranged deal. I am very interested in what the rest of that deal is.
Hopefully it GD deal for us Ranger fans. I like 21 thought he GD player Rangers didn't used him right JS
I think it’s like you said with Markstrom, if San Jose could get a sweetener they would’ve. Goodrow had trade protection and probably blocked a trade to SJ.
If the Oilers complete the comeback I reckon McDavid breaks the record. He only needs 3 points a game and I get the feeling either Florida finds a way to shut him down and avoid the reverse sweep or they come back with him breaking the record. On a side note, there's a real case for McDavid getting the Conn Smythe even if they come up short. I really want this to go 7 and hey overtime in game 7 would be nice too
Any chance the Sharks will take Trouba off our hands? Sad to see Goodrow go but he wasnt worth 3.6 for a team competing for a cup right now
Did San Jose possibly fulfill some previous 'Future Considerations' with NYR?
Good for Dellandrea, I wish him well.
Markstrom is 19 games over .500 almost 500 games in, has a .909 sv % and 2.73 GA! Good luck!
BARCLAY GOODROW
The goodrow move is super weird. Could have gotten a pick. Maybe the rangers never called to dump contract. Maybe they didn’t want to give up assets. I feel like SJS did this because they want a cup winning veteran on the team and they probably felt the only other way to get him on the team was at gunpoint. Because who wants to go to SJS now as a veteran unless it’s your only contract offer.
San Jose is still below the cap floor, so this deal makes a LITTLE bit more sense. If some cash went along with Goodrow would they be required to disclose that?
Felt like it was going to be Chicago or SJ.
Gretzky set the record in 18 games, McDavid has already played 23 games.
Something people never mention is games played
Fire birds didn't really pull away til late 2nd period. It was tied 2-2 . Then the firebirds initiated some well timed physicality which seemed to be the turning point. The game didn't start til 7pm so I was able to watch oilers and only missed most of the first period of the calder. BTW Shane Wright kicked a...
Goodrow was one of their better forwards vs the Panthers which is funny. Also, if the NHL wants to have the Stanley Cup Final so late I don't know why they don't delay free agency and the draft a week or 2 to give some more time for everyone. There is no reas9n to have the the final and the draft so close together.
Shannon said yesterday that Goodrow would probably clear waivers, but I felt pretty sure that the Sharks would grab him
In terms of real estate rentals, Barclay Goodrow has probably had the most expensive career ever. SJ-TB-NYC-SJ. dang.
No Dubois news? 🤔
Not even an hour since this posted L.A. and Washington swap PLD and Kuemper straight up.
It's so crazy to think LA was able to get something for him.
I wonder if the Sharks will end up trading Goodrow at the trade deadline next year back to the Rangers for a draft pick... :)
perhaps the Rangers were not willing to add a sweetener to take Goodrow and that was the best option, similar to as mentioned in the Markstrom segment.
Drury must have some dirt on Grier or something... NYR is super lucky to be out of that contract with no cost to them...
There's gotta be more down the road from the Rangers. Wouldn't be surprised if the waiver pick up was to get around Goodrow's NTC and we see something come through during the draft.
NJD gave 3 million in cap space to CGY. I don't think people are taking that into account when complaining.
If it was money in/money out then I agree it's a sub-par return.
With the Goodrow move, it’s 100% because they were on his no trade list. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a trade soon that involves assets for future considerations soon.
I have a feeling the flames are not done trading this off SZN. I really hope they nail this draft and be the biggest winners of the draft
I hope there's a gentleman's agreement to leave Iginla on the board for Calgary. Not likely, but Iginla to Calgary would be storybook. Even if we can't grab him there's still plenty of great options at that pick
Barkov absolutely has been able to shut McDavid down. They're 1-1 in 5v5 scoring. Every time Barkov is not on the ice, #97 pops off. And he should, he's the best player ever.
Sharks will later trade Goodrow to Dallas, get that important 4th RD pick back. Chess, not checkers.
At first I thought the commentary guy will play in the NHL
Dellandrea was fine as a Star but with all the young talent coming up the roster needed some space. The big one for me is Tanev, with all the interest out there I hope we can find a way to keep him.
Dubois traded to capitals for basique nothing 😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you San jose from a ranger fan
I'm wondering if there's a trade coming that is part of this..pick 42 for pick 30 or Kakko for future considerations or something like that. Maybe the Sharks were on his no trade list and the waivers route was the way they could bypass the list.
@jonmendelson1104 I think it was the no trade he wants to play for a team that has a chance to win San Jose doesn’t have a chance
@@jonmendelson1104 no shot kakko is traded for nothing
mika zibanejad is a rangers legend
Can the Sharks take Trouba?
Edmonton wins Florida's new name is ALMOST
Have to wonder if San Jose was on Goodrow's no-trade list - that might explain claiming from waivers instead of looking for late pick to take him. Though why would you want a player who didn't want to be there in that case?
Supposedly Goodrow has SJ on his no trade list. They couldn't get extra pick(s) because Goodrow would void a trade
2:54 - I think the Oilers only force a game 7 and win if McDavid gets at least 5 points. And after 8 points in 2 games you can't really argue against him getting another 5 points.
As a resident sharks and rangers fan, I see this as a win for rangers but idk if the sharks really needed him back
Great Video, as usual, Shannon - what a break for My Rangers, in, at least having Goodrow get Claimed by San Jose, given the fact that they didn't keep him, even though, as you also said, he was good, but, overpaid.
This is great news as a Rangers fan Now they have to get rid of Trouba.
It seems like Goodrow may have San Jose on his no-trade list
He was just there like five years ago. But that would be interesting if that were the case.
@@bostonwarrior4824 Larry Brooks all but confirmed they were. If you were a player, would San Jose be a top 17 place you'd want to play right now, after the year they just had?
@@oneplusonemakesone yeah I saw his article a few few minutes ago. And for me personally, if you don’t care about winning yes, it’s a place you can raise a family and it has sun all year-round and, it’s a pretty decent city. San Jose isn’t really a terrible city itself. I mean it’s pretty nice. Especially compared to others. I mean every city has crime problems, but I’d actually love to go to San Jose and live there IF I didn’t care about winning. They aren’t going to be competitive for a long time so like I said if you don’t care about winning, it’s a good city. But if you do care about winning, obviously you don’t wanna go there. Obviously most players dream is to win a Stanley Cup, but if they’ve already been through that like goodrow, maybe he wouldn’t mind. But Larry says that he actually didn’t want to go back to San Jose and had them on his no trade clause. Which is crazy because he spent a long time there you would think he wouldn’t mind going back.
@bostonwarrior4824 Yeah, I doubt he personally has anything personal against the Sharks but with higher than average taxes and one of the most expensive housing markets in the league + no chance of them winning a Cup on your contract, there would be 17 other teams that would be higher on my list if I were him.
McDavid should win the Conn Smythe regardless of who wins the cup.
wasn't Goodrow a Shark before i can't remember maybe that is why they took him off waivers
Yep, Sharks drafted him originally, then he was traded to the Lightning, and then signed with the rags as a FA.
wtf?? i called this!!!
Go Firebirds!
Hell yeah, go Flint! The original and better Firebirds in hockey! Lol
lol let’s go!
rumor is goodrow has sjs on his 15 team no trade list but was claimed by them anyways and isnt happy about it. not sure how well that situation will work if thats true
Curios move by Grier and Shark by picking up Goodrow
I think Elliott Friedman can help Vancouver this season for sure. 😉
He wasn't wrong about there being more trades.
This was the best time to get rid of goodrow tbh. Sell high with the recent playoff performance
I’m still confused as to why San Jose did this. I mean, they could’ve just signed him when he got bought out by the Rangers, which was inevitable, considering probably no one else would’ve claimed him. Don’t really see teams help another out for free so it’s kind of a surprise, but I guess Greer and drury are buddies.
Sharks are way below the cap minimum. This helps them a bit.
Plus Drury and Grier go way back. There will be something down the road NYR has to do for SJ
Not going to talk about Slavin contract extension
I bet Tony Khan will buy EliteProspects
Go Oilers!!
Goodrow had a NTC the only way to get him to the sharks was a waive n claim.
