I hate how child support is a state mandate, but when it comes to getting money back, "oh we cant do that, thats a civil matter".

I mean, it by definition is. Getting money back from child support isn't a criminal case it's a civil one. Not paying child support is a criminal case, saying you paid in error is civil.

Exactly what I’m going through. My BM has lived with 3 different guys since my daughter was born. She hardly works and gets everyone else to pay her way. I have joint custody. Going to eventually try for full but who knows Georgia law is messed up when it comes to fathers

Way too many judges in child custody cases operate on emotion and not what is in the best interest of the child. And by "emotion" I mean they feel sorry for the woman and give her the kid(s) by default because she is under employed and damn near homeless. If the courts give her the kids, then she can get family support services, get child support, and keep a roof over her head.

They implement these “services” as a disguise to make it look like they’re helping, but really they’re indoctrinating the belief that you don’t need a father figure. @@superdave8248 In cases where the dad actually attempts to get custody, he wins 60% of the time (probably because men tend to make more money and can therefore provide a better future for the child). That's more than half the time, men win. The stat that says women win 90% of time includes cases where the father DID NOT SHOW UP TO COURT. Meaning he didn't even try to win. Men do this to themselves. If they actually cared and tried, they'd win most of the time.
The defendant doesn't have a brain in her head. Very unstable. Very shady answers to JJ's questions. Why she thinks she should get child support when the child wasn't even with her is beyond me. Somebody else looking for something for nothing and who obviously doesn't know the law.

So she had a child with this man and put him on child support. Then at some point was down on her luck and was taken in by her friend. Stole her friend's husband for long enough to make a baby with him. The wife then started threatening her for destroying her marriage, so she packed off her eldest son to various people but continued to collect his child support while she fled to another friend's home and stole her husband too. Meanwhile others looked after her eldest son before she finally allowed him to stay with his dad permanently with all costs covered by his dad. But still she collected the child support from his cheque on top. Shouldn't she now be paying the child support as she is no longer the primary carer? Can you say entitled? Entitled to husbands, other people's money, homes, no responsibility for her children? Wow. Just wow. And also, can you imagine that THIS woman is managing to steal everyone's husbands in the first place. I don't follow. I'm sorry, I am just confused and honestly it shows that for some men, any hole is a goal.

Judge Judy used to work New York Child and Family Services. You will *not* pull the wool over her eyes in those kinds of cases, for sure!
She is credited with shaping family law for the state of New York, and even worked with the US Supreme Court to overhaul federal statutes surrounding crimes against children by their parents/guardians. She is a remarkable woman. I just love her.
I paid child support to my ex-wife for 5 months while my daughter lived with me. My ex was abusive to my daughter. I continued to pay so I could keep my daughter out of that situation without my ex making a fuss. It took 5 months to change custody. My ex could have sent the money back to me at anytime. She kept it "because she had to pay her bills". $2500 was worth keeping my daughter safe and happy, but I should have taken her to court.

I love that Judge Judy doesn’t entertain the drama. When I was practicing law, both men and women would come into court and attempt to air out their partners dirty laundry. The judge would always say “leave that on Facebook this is a court of law.”

Texas is the worst state for men regarding child support. My cousin was never behind/no arrears in child support for his two sons with his ex, garnished his paycheck regularly. Then it got to the point his ex let their two sons live with him. The state of TEXAS REFUSED to stop garnishing his wages for over TWO YEARS so he had to get courts involved. My cousin had to get a lawyer in our state AND one in Texas to fight the child support. He had proof that his ex still lived in Texas and that the kids were enrolled in public school from his address. It took almost a year to get the case settled, and TEXAS continued to garnish his wages. Final ruling? They discontinued his garnishment and acknowledged he had primary custody of his two sons...but his ex did not 1)have to reimburse him for support he paid for almost THREE YEARS when he had custody AND 2) SHE didn't have to pay him child support!!! How about THAT! Let's take it a step further...the youngest son WAS NOT HIS BIOLOGICALLY, but legally his because he signed the birth certificate. How's that justice???
