In Canada, there is only SKS, no AK, and only semi-automatic, no fully automatic. Two weeks ago, I went hunting for the first time. The guide suggested that I use a 30-06s with scope. Although I have 5 of them, including 2 Sako 85 Bavarian, I took a Chinese SKS without scope and caught a 200 Ib male black bear at 100 feet with one 7.62x39 SP round. I chose the SKS because it is cheap, reliable, and semi auto. Another advantage I found during this hunt is that the gunshot is not that loud, so don't have to wear earplugs or hearing protection while in the woods.
I’m not gonna be that guy and claim that “one rifle is better than the other” but I will explain *why* the SKS was replaced by the AK47. The reason ‘why’ is because they discovered 2nd hand about the effectiveness of a shorter rifle with an intermediate cartridge and so, the SKS was born. The SKS wasn’t full auto but it was accurate and it was able to lay down a more effective volume of fire because of the lowered recoil, the SKS is almost considered a carbine at that point (in my opinion), which was already a firearm that has been proven to be affective during ww2. When the AK47 came along, it beat every prototype during their test trials and it was sure a hell better than the SKS because it was literally meant to replace it. The Russians knew that battles were going to start getting closer because they were getting their asses pounded by the Germans with that tactic, what mattered most was a higher volume of fire for most troops so that they can push closer to their enemy by riddling more bullets. the Russians developed what was, -the perfect assault rifle of the time. The SKS -as well as the AK, will always be nothing more than a chapter in the firearms technology and knowledge. The AK47 isn’t the perfect assault rifle either, which is why it was replaced later on by another Kalashnikov model. However, you can’t always win and other countries turned out to make better rifles like the M16/AR15. And if you think I’m biased, I’m not. *I own all three.* (not the full auto models, but you get it).
I like the SKS, mainly as it is compact and versatile; The internal magazine means no det mags to lose nor be damaged/lost. The SKS can also be loaded singly and can be loaded through the top OR the bottom of the magazine. Oh...in the bottle test, you showed 6 bottles damaged by the AK, but you had the bottles set up like bowling pins, so there weren't 6 bottles all in a row. Did the bullet deflect?
Can carry more cartridges with stripper clips. In a few battles in Vietnam, U.S. soldiers ran short of ammo, such as a group cut off during the Ia Trang battle ("We were Soldiers Once, and Young"). The longer barrel of the SKS gives 60 fps higher muzzle velocity, for more range, less noise, and less kick.
I have used both with detachable magazines, long and short barrel variations. Only a knats ass difference between them. It all comes down to preference. Many ak47 don't have last round bolt hold open.
Ill take both thank you very much hahaha. But seriously if shit was really was hitring the fan id want my sks. Its truly is the ultimate survival.tool and i choose ot over my ar 15 and ak 47
While I like my SKS and AK if you live in the US then and AR platform or an AK that shoots 5.56 is more practical. Reason is 5.56 Ammo is more abundant in US and can be found in every NG Armory or Police Station. Same cannot be said for 7.62x39.
To check for accuracy, you should shoot from a bench. The inaccuracy could be due to the shooter. Also, the AK bolt often times don't lock open after the last round , SKS won't have that problem.
Basically the same effect, the same caliber, although the SKS shoots more accurately than the AK47, but I would definitely choose the AK47-AKM-AK74-AK12 if I had to choose between the two weapons The SKS is now highly valued in the USA, probably because of its cheap price and high firepower, and as I look at it, it is a very backward old construction (it is already visible on the reloading system and on the entire wooden body), it only has a relatively large caliber and shoots more accurately. like the AK47 Actually, the AEK971 should have been released to the Russians in a new design, or else the multicaliber system and external design of the AK12 turned out to be very good, but the 900 rpm is missing from the AK12 in my opinion In a semi-automatic rifle, the Ruger Mini Tactical Model 5888 seems like a good construction to me, although I would definitely buy an automatic military carbine for myself, whatever the cost.
I disagree the sks is far more easy to make accurate shots with at further distances and the ak is better at shorter distances based on my own experience (i own multiple ak and sks rifles) not to mention that you get better muzzle velocity resulting in the 7.62×39 out of the sks having more over all power and range
@@Schrodingers_kid That's because nobody is talking about the SKS in the first place. I like the rifle. But AK made it completely irrelevant and to be fair, SKS was outdated by the time it was developed.
The SKS kinda looks like an AK, to the extent that the gas system and barrel look to be that from an AK, slapped on to a magazine-fed Mosin Nagant. Crazy.
Actually, it's the other way around. SKS predated AKs by 2 years (SKS was invented in 1945). I think AK was made to look like SKS , but with totally different gas piston system (SKS uses short-stroke piston, AKs uses long-stroke piston that suspiciously looked similar to M1 Garand)
@@muhammadnursyahmi9440 Yeah, Brandon Herrera did say that Kalashnikov was inspired by the the long-stroke piston design of John Garand's M1 Rifle. I should've known the SKS was made in 1945, BTW.
Design wise and my personal favorite weapon in video games I think the AK wins. I mean I don't think there's anything more satisfying than pulling the bolt back to chamber around in the AK-47 (Besides maybe the m1 Garands clip ejection noise)
SKSs are made with a milled reciever from a solid block of steel while a majority of AKs are made from a stamped reciever. The thicker milled reciever ways a bit more than the stamped sheet metal.

You can remove the box mag and swap in a banana mag, but you lose the bolt-hold-open feature if you decide to do this. If I'm in a fight for my life, I'll take the AK.
Oh lovely. Damn good fun
Thank you!
I think the sks is the winner. Hands down
Has bayonet too
Yugoslavian variant has a grenade launching spigot too
Damn. For the same weight the sks is fully loaded with ammo.
You should make more of this videos
Who can give the accurate details of that ak in the video and which country made it ...i liked it ...itis very nice
Funny comparison. Hello to the author, make videos more often.
Why not some absurd Apple vs Orange comparisons? Mosin-Nagant 91/30 vs MP-40, or Luger vs M-1 Garand, for example.
Saludos desde la República Dominicana excelente vídeo
Ill take both thank you very much hahaha.
But seriously if shit was really was hitring the fan id want my sks. Its truly is the ultimate survival.tool and i choose ot over my ar 15 and ak 47
While I like my SKS and AK if you live in the US then and AR platform or an AK that shoots 5.56 is more practical. Reason is 5.56 Ammo is more abundant in US and can be found in every NG Armory or Police Station. Same cannot be said for 7.62x39.
Nice and informative video
To be honest review I think both of these weapons are magnificent and each one to fill their own special role on the battlefield
To check for accuracy, you should shoot from a bench. The inaccuracy could be due to the shooter. Also, the AK bolt often times don't lock open after the last round , SKS won't have that problem.
I want to see you shoot the MG34 MG42 gun
Both are outstanding rifles.
Both rifles are extremely robust strong rifles, no matter what anyone says, they're good rifles.
Hungarian AK?
Yep! Hungarian 85M.
Its a fun side with soda but penetration test can be also repeated with bricks, layers of wood etc. These are good guns, never getting old.
If you convert sks like a serial military automatic rifle, I wonder how durable the firearm is.
(Suppose you use military bullets.)
Have both love them each in there own way
Basically the same effect, the same caliber, although the SKS shoots more accurately than the AK47, but I would definitely choose the AK47-AKM-AK74-AK12 if I had to choose between the two weapons
The SKS is now highly valued in the USA, probably because of its cheap price and high firepower, and as I look at it, it is a very backward old construction (it is already visible on the reloading system and on the entire wooden body), it only has a relatively large caliber and shoots more accurately. like the AK47
Actually, the AEK971 should have been released to the Russians in a new design, or else the multicaliber system and external design of the AK12 turned out to be very good, but the 900 rpm is missing from the AK12 in my opinion
In a semi-automatic rifle, the Ruger Mini Tactical Model 5888 seems like a good construction to me, although I would definitely buy an automatic military carbine for myself, whatever the cost.
having owned both, there is no reason to choose the SKS; the AK literally does everything that matters better
I disagree the sks is far more easy to make accurate shots with at further distances and the ak is better at shorter distances based on my own experience (i own multiple ak and sks rifles) not to mention that you get better muzzle velocity resulting in the 7.62×39 out of the sks having more over all power and range
SKS is the only gun that Russians made properly and I've never heard anyone say anything bad about it,unlike "reliable" AK
@@Schrodingers_kid That's because nobody is talking about the SKS in the first place. I like the rifle. But AK made it completely irrelevant and to be fair, SKS was outdated by the time it was developed.
@@dablackprodigy1295 Can the SKS be used as a DMR with a scope?
@@JohnyX8881 it was outdated for conventional warfare but it got a new life in the Chinese army and Vietnam and Korea
I have both rifles and i love both the SKS i call the poor man's garand :)
Design wise and my personal favorite weapon in video games I think the AK wins. I mean I don't think there's anything more satisfying than pulling the bolt back to chamber around in the AK-47 (Besides maybe the m1 Garands clip ejection noise)
I was really surprised the SKS weighs the same, you'd think having 20 less bullets and a tiny internal magazine would make it much lighter
SKSs are made with a milled reciever from a solid block of steel while a majority of AKs are made from a stamped reciever. The thicker milled reciever ways a bit more than the stamped sheet metal.
SKS no doubt. Another factor that gives it the "edge" , is that it skirts around "laws & policies" that Dummycrats try to implement. I bought a Russian SKS back in the day (96) and still love it. Excellent vid. 👊🏽🎯
very nice sound effects 😀
I have used both sks and akm
sks is more accurate, powerful and hits longer targets because of it's longer barrel
But akm is full auto, shorter and optional
If they won't let you have the Ak legally, you can resort to using your effective SKS.
With a 40 round magazine plus full-auto convert. >:3
Both are good. SKS has good range with low round n low recoil. AK has good round with low range n has high recoil.
Sks is for like an elite marksman its better for a specific target i think the ak is just a full auto gun its for close and mid combat and fits well
(SKS vs AK-47)
SkS will be my first choice for its long range upto 500m accuracy and less recoil reliability durability and finally its beauty.
AK-47 with folding butt will be my first choice for 300m range, more rate of fire and its probability.
I have bought rifles the SKS Norinco 26 model 79 military surplus in company bluesh polish and milled receiver AK-47 Russian made in 1956.
The SKS and AK-47 both are fantastic but i Love SKS.
Do m1903 Springfield vs Mosin
That Ak 47 has no muzzle break
У вас правая ключица титановая?
I have an sks and it is very accurate. Even with iron sights i can hit steel at 100 yards.
Mine is very accurate I shoot dimes at 50 yards

Ak good and sks it's so too good. 👍
The table took one for the team xD
SKS is the winner :)
...I went for the one that has mostly machined parts and a screwed-in barrel...
Both sound the same, love the SKS but Ak-47 takes the cake.
It still shoots the same Round, therefore, practically no difference really in power
You can make that sks even better
Hey can you do left 4 dead 2 and left 4 dead 1 guns in real life?
I own both of these rifles, and they have about the same performance. The AK47 is faster and lighter, but the SKS is more accurate. I love them both. If you ever get the opportunity to shoot these rifles, you should give it a try! They will put a big smile on your face.
Me too bro
The accuracy is completely subjective.
I really love the both Soviet rifles
I am a old fashion military trained man. Don't like assault rifles, their change marksmanship for high volume fire rate. Also are very unconfortables in prone position. In this case, let me the SKS
AK a little over-gassed like everybody says? Seems like the recoil was greater in the accuracy part.
Matatan.⭐🤔⭐. Ribirin HS,
This is like the '03 Springfield vs M1.
The upper half (barrel) of the guns both look pretty identical….
Darn, all you needed to do next was a bayonet charge. ^_^
Both are good. One is good in close range and other one is good in medium range .
Which model of ak this is and country of manufacture?
I awl e mai sks vs akm hmmm😂😭😭😭
For me, it's the best of both.
does the sks's weight includes the bayonet?

One sec, I thought that SKS was mag fed
You can remove the box mag and swap in a banana mag, but you lose the bolt-hold-open feature if you decide to do this. If I'm in a fight for my life, I'll take the AK. If I am making an accurate shot with the capability to follow up quickly at ranges under 350 yards, I'll take the SKS.
If you decide to go SKS, you also have the ability to go prone, which is much more difficult with the magazine on the AK
Bought my SKS at a flea market in the 90s for $149 with some stripper clips in two boxes of ammo. AK, never been able to do that. That being said I consider the AK to be far superior. At least in the looks and capacity department.
My SKS and AK both take the same ammo, of course their penetrating power will be identical
