Hey Bob your tutorial is absolutely the best, so easy to follow. As a bit of a beginner what i liked about the way you teach is not assuming we know everything, thats really refreshing and thank you so much for explaining and also for visually showing where the tools and functions can be found. So often Ive tried to follow someone how is making keyboard short cuts or doing things in the background and the viewer has no idea of half of the process. Really simple and very easy to follow. Cant wait to see more of your stuff. Big huge massive thanks
I really like the way you present your lesson. Your presentation is easy to understand and you show exactly where you should click instead of just telling people.. You're also not in a rush. Love the step by step instruction
What a Wonderful turtorial. I'm a noob at photoshop at any level, and it seems like most "walkthroughs" and "how to's" seem to ignore key elements for beginners, despite the fact the video has 'beginners' in the title. This was well narrated, edited and paced, thank you very much.
Today I upgraded from PSE 9 to 13 and needed to remove a background. My initial reaction was "Ugh!" (past experiences). I opened RUclips, found you right off the bat, and my reaction changed to "Wow!" If this tutorial is an example of what I can expect from you, well then... I'm a new subscriber. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi Bob, Thank you so much. You are so gifted with teaching! You have a great demeanor as well as technical explanation for us rookies I'm subscribing to your channel
Hi Bob, Thanks for sharing your tutorials. With tis one it makes it easier than going the long way of getting rid of backgrounds ie using erasing tool, so long and combersome. Plus this way is more accurate cheers keep up the good work.
Hi Bob, great video thank you for sharing. I do have a question though. I don't have the latest version of Adobe Photoshop Elements I only have v2.0 so I'm way out of date, but that aside in my version of Elements can I use the same tools as your video? or are they different? I have some images that I would like to remove the background on. I look forward to your response.
Hi There Bob ... Firstly want to say, a great video with easy to follow steps & thank you. When trying to fine tune my image after removing my background with Brush Tool. It does not work when on any images.
Great tutorial!!! I have Photoshop elements 13, I have watched every video there is on how to cut out back ground I am working with products I only need the product image.... you briefly touched on it at minute 5:45 but went right into back grounds I followed everything you did but can not get the image with out the back ground (white) Please help :) Thank you!!!
Will this tutorial work with Adobe Photoshop Elements 15? I am so behind as I have been using the magic extractor from Elements 9 but have upgraded to a new computer. Ugh!
Hello Bob, I'm a new user and found your video very helpful. But for some reason the quick selection tool has stopped working and I don't think I am in the editor mode and can't seem to find my way back to it. Can you help? Thks
Hi Bob. Thank you so much for helping! When I try to select the edge, It seems to go crazy and starts selecting all the detail in my card rather than the outer edge of my card. Help!
HI Marie, the quick select tool selects everything you are dragging it over out to any edge that it sees. The edge detection can be tricky depending on the contents of the image you are selecting. Since PSE does not actually know where the edge of your card is, or even that it is a card in the picture, it simply looks for transitions from one color to the next or from one value to a different value. Basically it looks for major changes and assumes that is where you are trying to select to. In most cases this will be correct but frequently it is not. The quick selection tool is just one of the selection options available in PSE and personally it is the one that I use the least. George
+albertoOo Navarro simply load the photo like you do the original, copy and paste it into the original photo. Make sure that the background layer is underneath the original photo. Alternatively, copy the selected bit and paste it into your chosen background image, making sure it is the layer on top of the background. Hope that helps - I realize it has been a few months since you asked the question and you no doubt have things figured out by now but it seems others have a similar problem so I've answered yours to help them out as well :)
I tried to do exactly what Bob posted here, using PS Elements 11. When I tried to click on " Add A Mask " the icon seemed to be " greyed out " and would not let me click on it the same way as Bob could. My cursor, when placed on the icon, showed a black circle with a line through it.Can anyone suggest a remedy or why this happened to me?
Hi John: Sorry for the long delay in responding. I don't normally monitor these RUclips Comments. The only think I can think of that would cause the Layer Mask Icon to be disabled is if the layer is locked. That lock icon just to the right of the Layer Mask icon will toggle the locked state of the layer. If you had accidentally clicked that icon and locked the layer, the the Layer Mask icon would be disabled as you describe. Check that, and click on the Lock ison to unlock the layer if it's locked. Cheers Bob
I have had a lot of issues with making Watermark or brushes for Watermarks and they last for about 4x maybe a little more and then when I close the program THEY ARE GONE... and I have to make them again... yes, I have saved them , I've tried everything but they disappear... another person in my photography group complained about the same thing. Can you help?
Hi Bob. I've been trying to place a background in my photo, after I remove the real background, but every time I attempt to place the background I get this "Could not place the document because the current document has an input-only color profile. Okay. What am I doing wrong?
Question...Why when I try to toggle the black and white to re-brush it does not work? I did all that you were doing but when i switched to paint something back in nothing happened? Great video, and thank you so much.
+Lisa Maier Hi Lisa, make sure that you have the layer mask selected, look for the light blue line around it. If it isn't selected just click on the layer mask icon, when you see the light blue outline you will be able to paint on the mask. White paint shows the image and black paint hides the image. Any gray tone will give you a transparency effect, the lighter the gray the more image is shown.
I've had the same problem. Where both tools do the same thing. White adds black takes away. Very odd. I have to try several times to get the tool to work properly.
Hi, when I try to add the mask by clicking on the icon on the right nothing happens: when I hover on the mask icon I get a sort of "do not enter" sign. How do I make it work? Thanks
The same thing happens to me as in John's comment below. At 2:20 in the video hit says click on layer mask, however it is greyed out and when I bring curser to it, there is a black circle with a line through it, indicating I can't press that button. I am working in PSE 12
mikehogan12345 I don't think so. I think he missed a step or there is a setting that we haven't turned on. No answers of yet. I am surprised there isn't more comments about it. Not even sure what Rowashore is talking about!
whenever I add a layer mask and try to conceal or reveal or black or white it does nothing at all. I looked at your settings on here and have the same set up.
OK Bob I do everything you tell me up to when I put the mask box in and delete the background for some reason it deletes my picture what am I doing wrong? Please help
Hi Debbie, when you put in the Layer Mask it should automatically hide the unwanted parts of the image, based upon your selection. You don't need to delete anything. If you hit the delete key at this time it will delete your image. George
I can't "select" the part of my picture that I want to save. I get the error "can't complete because not more than 50% of pixels are selected. My picture is of a halo that I wanted to put around a head on a picture. I can select the white background, but when I "paint" then the background is there but the picture is gone. I've watched this video 7 times and still can't do anything to remove the white background.
Hi, use the Place command in the Files menu to import your picture into the Photoshop Elements file. Put the new picture above the existing background. To easily do this just select the existing background layer by clicking on it before using the Place command. George
No hidden features in this software, unless you want to consider keyboard shortcuts as being hidden features. You can find full lists of all the keyboard shortcuts available in PSE by doing a Google search. George
Bob is the man! With so many convoluted and long winded videos out there, this is refreshing and to the point.

pS. I Tried this masking and removing background but it only faded the chevron that was being cleaned up in the masking stage...
hey there! what if i wanted to put my own picture in the background instead of one of the ones provided???

Using Quick Selection tool and all it does is jump to edge of rectangular frame. Any ideas?
Nicely Done ✅
Like how do you instead of using the backgrounds they have in graphics use one of yours?
+Hannah Stefancin Hi, just put the image you want as a layer under the image layer that has the layer mask.
Hi can I ask how to get a glass or wet look to a photo please
Hi Bob. I've been trying to place a background in my photo, after I remove the real background, but every time I attempt to place the background I get this "Could not place the document because the current document has an input-only color profile. Okay. What am I doing wrong?

Rick, I'm using PSE12 also and I'm having the same problem as you. Maybe this procedure only works with PSE13?

It should work the same in PSE12.
See my response above to John. Hopefully that's what's it.

Thank you so much!
i don't know how to save photos in the newer update can u help me
How do you change the background to a background that you save to your computer?
+Hannah Stefancin Hi, simply put any image you want as a layer under the image layer with the mask.
how
Hi, use the Place command in the Files menu.

How to do panoramas pictures in Adobe elements 14
Hi, you will find Panorama under Photomerge in the Guided Edit tab
George
how do I put my own picture in the background?
Hi, use the Place command in the Files menu to import your picture into the Photoshop Elements file. Put the new picture above the existing background. To easily do this just select the existing background layer by clicking on it before using the Place command.
George
Could you do a tutorial on how to make a baseball card?
Far far FAR too complicated! The extract function in Elements 11 was simple. Why has it got so difficult?
very nice I like your's vidio

No hidden features in this software, unless you want to consider keyboard shortcuts as being hidden features. You can find full lists of all the keyboard shortcuts available in PSE by doing a Google search.
