"Are you classified as human?" "Negative, I am a meat popsicle." Fun Fact: The wonder on Bruce Willis' face when the Diva (Maïwenn) sings is real. That was the first time he'd heard it and seen the actress in full make-up. Big Bada Boom Fact: The explosion in the Fhloston main hall was the largest indoor explosion ever filmed. The resulting fire almost went beyond control. It took twenty-five minutes to put out. Lost In Translation Fact: The "Divine Language" spoken by Leeloo, was invented by co-writer and director Luc Besson and further refined by Milla Jovovich, who had little trouble learning and developing it, as she was already fluent in four languages. The language had only four hundred words. He and Milla Jovovich held conversations, and wrote letters to each other in the language as practice. By the end of filming, they were able to have full conversations in this language. Bad Timing Fact: The hero, Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis), and the villain, Jean Baptiste Emanuel Zorg (Gray Oldman), never meet, nor do they communicate with each other in any way. They are aware of each other (Korben used to work for Zorg's company and Zorg knows that Korben won the contest) but they are unaware of the other's involvement in the main plot (getting the stones). The only time they appear in the same scene together is at the end when Korben flees towards Fhloston's hotel's hangar while Zorg is just returning from it. They pass but just miss one another putting them in the same shot together for just a few frames. Music Enthusiast Fact: Diva Plavalaguna (Maïwenn) sings the "Il dolce suono" aria from the opera, Lucia de Lammermoor. It is one of the most difficult arias because of its length, its soaring arpeggios, and the high F above high C. When composer Éric Serra showed soprano Inva Mula (who dubs the voice of the Diva) the sheet music for the Diva Dance, she reportedly smiled and relayed to him that some of the notes written were not humanly possible to achieve, because the human voice cannot change notes that fast. Hence, she performed the notes in isolation, one by one, as opposed to consecutively singing them all together, and they digitized the notes to fit the music. There are a few moments when you can hear the differences in the vocal tones of the Diva's voice.
Fashion designer Jean Paul Gauthier designed the costumes for the movie and some of his favourite models played the flight attendants on the ship to the resort and the one bald woman was also a big model at the time.
I saw this film in theaters when I was 17 years old in that year 1997 The Fifth Element starring Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, Ian Holm and Chris Tucker. Thank you guys great reaction excellent
I'm sure I won't be the only person to tell you this but Gary Oldman is an extremely versatile actor whom you have seen more than once but apparently didn't recognize him. He played Police Cheif Jim Gordon in Christopher Nolan's DARK KNIGHT trilogy. He was the Russian hijacker in AIRFORCE ONE. He had the title role in Bram Stoker's DRACULA. And I don't think you've seen this one yet but my favorite role of his was as the Detroit drug dealer in TRUE ROMANCE.
And the crooked cop in Leon! Plus he was in Book of Eli, Sid & Nancy, award-winning in the Churchill movie, The Darkest Hour, fantastic in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and many others. Always intense, never frivolous. I’m sure there are tons more but that’s what springs to mind right here, right now.
He also plays a crooked cop in Leon the Professional. Natalie Portman's first big time film. She was like 12 years old in that film which is a very dark film if you haven't seen it.
Gary Oldman also played Ludwig Van Beethoven in "Immortal Beloved," and Dr. Smith in the film version of "Lost In Space" (which I like pieces of, but which is, objectively, a not-too-good film). Gary Oldman is one of a handful of actors that has the ability to completely disappear into the character he's playing. You look at some of his different roles, and think, "How could these characters possibly be played by the same guy?" Robert De Niro and John Turturo are two other such actors.
Chris Tucker was suppose to act as much as he could like The Artist formerly known as Prince, because thats who Luc Besson wanted to cast for this role. Chris made a great job doing it. Milla Jovovich and Luc Besson spent a lot of time together to invent Leeloos alien language, they also got married after that. Millas daughter plays young Black Widow in the Marvel movie with the same name. I first heard of this movie when it was introduced at Cannes Film Festival and being a huge fan of Bruce Willis I knew I had to see it.
First movie I ever had a poster from. Was my favorite movie for a long time and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Personally I always saw the Mondoshawan as an aquatic species in an exosuit that makes them function outside the water (a bit) They suits are probably mostly made for high pressure in deep oceans.
That's an interesting idea! It makes sense because more spherical structures are typically used to contain pressures that are much higher than the exterior environment. 🤔 I guess another option would be that they're from deep inside a gas giant like Jupiter . . . but I like your underwater idea better because we already know such environments can sustain life.
@@bigdream_dreambigAnd I hadn't considered gas giants :D I remain with the underwater idea being more likely, but I do love the idea. Thanks for sharing!

Great reaction, you two !!! Joy, Iam Holm also played the android in the original Alien movie ... a sinister character to be sure. Your reaction to it was dated Oct 20, 2022. BTW, my sister's name was Joy ... lost her in April of this year 😶☹😢🙏, but Joy, you make me smile because you bring the same sunshine into my life. You are both awesome people and I appreciate you tremendously !!!
You should check out the 80's tv series Moonlighting with Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd. I think you will find it very entertaining. It ran for 5 seasons, then Bruce and Cybil's egos got so big that the show was cancelled. It's a good series and was very popular in the 80's.
It was more about the "will they or won't they" relationship between their characters finally being resolved. Then they just didn't know what to do with the series. It's why there are constant breakups in shows nowadays.
I never realized that the actor who played the priest was also Bilbo until you all said it! Re: Keanu and the hair, in the 4th Matrix movie, that they put out recently, he looks pretty much like his John Wick character but he's Neo. LOL Oh! And for another good Gary Oldman movie, check out Immortal Beloved, where he plays Beethoven. :)
You are right, Gary Oldman was in the movie Léon The Professional with Natalie Portman. He is also in Hannibal with Anthony Hopkins. But a movie no one ever mentions that is a masterpiece of his is his portrayal of Ludwig Von Beethoven. The movie is called "My Immortal Beloved". I highly recommend it to all those who love movies done the old-fashioned way...let the dialogue transport you and not the special effects.
