I've been informed that if the game can't find a suitable match for you, it can expand the search to up to 2 divisions higher or lower than your current one. So if you get opponents not in your current division, that's why. :)

If I understand correctly: matchmaking is still done based on rating (ELO) and points that count toward divisions can only be gained, not lost. Let's say someone starts out in a higher division today for the sake of the argument. Is there anything to stop them from first losing a bunch of games to drop their rating, then win against easy bronze/silver opponents, and take a few losses here and there to stay at a low rating for matchmaking purposes? They would still get points from the wins, that count toward advancing to higher divisions. Unless there's some aspect I'm missing. Also, it seems that this new system favors players who grind. Let's say that you are the best player in the world and win every round and every game, but you only play 1-2 games per day. It seems that you realistically can't advance in that case because there will always be someone who's playing more games than you do.

Even if a very good player doesn't play all of those games, they should still confidently stay in their current division.

Im currently sitting around 1500 elo. If I were to create a new account (or voluntarily drop divisions) would I then be playing against players who are bronze + - 2 divisions, completely dominating every game for weeks and weeks before I would eventually face more equally skilled opponents? Maybe if I only played my NM games, I wouldnt even get enough points to go up in divisions and could sit comfortably playing in a low division forever, each game being super unfair for all my opponents. This seems like a loophole someone could exploit if they just wanna farm wins.
They could certainly could do that, you're right, but that has no real benefit other then boosting their win percentage in Duels. Doing it sounds really boring to me at least. :D
3:20 No, matchmaking is not by your division, it is still based on your rating just as it was before which i proven in this very video later when you match against someone in Master II. Which also means that I can play my 20 games and do well enough to not get demoted from champion, lose rating on purpose for the rest of the week until I am at 0 rating and then win the champion division next week by playing against bronze players. Very fun system indeed 🙄
Good catch! To my knowledge the system should be working as I described, so either something has been changed without my knowledge or there might be a bug.
I have nothing against the new format, but without time-limited seasons and trophies, many players probably lack motivation, especially the people in Champion, who don't seem to be able to achieve anything. That's why I think that trophies have to be achieved after a certain amount of time, just like before.
Good that inactivity doesn't lower your rating anymore. I prefer single player and have moments I don't play multi for several weeks. My ranking was N/A for a while now, with the new system I saw that I'm back in gold (I'm normally master). Guess the first few matches are going to be easy for me but not fun for people who just made gold and we all know that feeling. So I do think that is a good thing. The rest, guess we'll find out. It does makes me want to play more multiplayer again.
maybe im misunderstanding the system but doesnt this mean you can only go up or down 1 rank per week at most? if so i kinda dont like that aspect of it

So, the divisions are no longer based on your rating? Technically, can you be a 1800 rated player and still be in one of the lowest divisions, because you don't play?
Yes, as it stands now, someone skilled could be in a low division of they don't bother to rank up. If the skill difference is as large, they will have no problems ranking up, even if they don't play all of their games

It would be cool if we saw up to 20 players be able to do Battle Royale! Or had like a racing championship style tournament, over the course of 10 games or so, where each player gets a certain number of points depending on where they finished in the battle royale game!
Not quite the same topic but I was playing some duels in the Android app yesterday and instead of matching me with people of similar rating, I was playing against random people, mostly rated much lower, so I was winning every duel. That's probably something they should fix..
Currently matchmaking is disabled for mobile, so that's why you might get much stronger/weaker opponents. I don't have any info when/if it might get reenabled
I am in champion dev , if i dont play , does this mean i stay there or is this N/A thing still activ after 2 weeks? And if i play just 3-4 games like i usally do , I can get ranked down because somone played more?? and they basicly force you to play every mode, i like only play no move but only 8 counts for my rating. I think for new players is this good but for the most of us who plays regular but not grind, thats ah sh*t update, i hope they change that again, but anyways thanks for the video helps me understand it more :)
Thanks for being understanding, I'm just a messenger here 😄 I've been told that the rating decay won't be active for now. Things can of course change in the future, but for now you don't have to worry about that. Getting demoted to a lower division cause of playing only a few games a week is a very valid concern, and I've let the team know about that. Hopefully, this can be addressed. :)

I feel like ppl googling impacts devision rank far more now than before. lost a few rounds to ppl obviously googling the exact location. extremely frustrating.
Thanks for the video. But how are trophies awarded? Many people won't play without trophies. You want to have something in your profile that shows what you've achieved.
I'm trying this new mode now. I dislike how it's basically a weekly grind that is sort of mandatory if you want to keep your ratings. Just played against someone named "I love Geopeter", I lol'd so much :D I'd be happier if NMPZ would be available in lower brackets as well and/or move wasn't mandatory :D

Yes, you can rise (or fall) 1 division every week

I like this system a lot. It’s especially good for beginners and mid level players. Unsure how pros are gonna feel about this tho
