      I had the old MIT deviation chart and it had more deviations. I also remember a deviation for doubling down on blackjack 21, but I somehow lost the chart and the book, I only have the DVD. It's not in the DVD. I want to know that deviation. Would you please send that one my way, if you are aware what it is?

    I don't understand why any of these deviations would "trigger" on a true count of zero. That's an un-touched deck; it seems like that's exactly what basic strategy would cover. Then as you *deviated* from that "starting" condition, the playing deviations would trigger.
    Is it possible you're "off by one" here, and that it should be "higher than index" rather than "index or higher"?

    Can someone please explain why some of the deviations start at a true count of 0 (like 16 vs 10 and 12 vs 4 in the table)? At TC=0 you should always be playing optimally using basic strategy as the probabilities for every card is the same, as if you were not counting. It doesn't make sense to deviate from Basic strategy at a TC of 0. There is another comment concerning this point in this comment section but the problem wasn't solved there. This inconsistency makes me question the credibility of the whole chart. Thanks for your help!

    • @youngenman
      @youngenman 3 года назад

      When you deviate from basic strategy you use TC or running count.The deviation of 16vs10 is at any positive running count.

    • @bensanterre9478
      @bensanterre9478 3 года назад +3

      Yeah, I think the chart is written in a confusing way. I've heard it taught that on any positive running count, it's stand on 16 vs 10. So instead of "at 0 or above" it should say "anything above 0".
      What i would like to know is if the deviations effect the option of surrender. I have always assumed that the deviations are for a situation where surrender is not an option, and as long as you can surrender you should. But I would like to verify that.

    • @d4ve19
      @d4ve19 2 года назад +1

      Basic strategy will tell you optimal least bad decision to make. 16 v 10 the dealer is likely to make a hand and we are likely to bust so this one of those situations where both outcomes are bad - if we stand dealer is likely to win, if we hit we are likely to bust and dealer still wins. I haven't worked out the maths behind it but would imagine that the "correct" decision of hitting is only very negligibly better than standing. So a small deviation in the true count will be enough to swing the "correct" decision the other way. Of course the actual true count is not likely to start from will not be a nice while number as presented here, it will be something like above 0.125 not 0.

    • @dannyneff4195
      @dannyneff4195 2 года назад

      @@bensanterre9478 I've seen material listed that shows surrender deviations, it basically just adds to the dealer up cards that you should surrender, i.e. BS says surrender a 15 to a 10 only but deviations say stand a 15 against a 10 at any negative running count, you should also surrender a 15 against 9 at a TC of +2 or higher and surrender a 16 against an 8 @ TC +4 or higher

    • @ryankasiarz2476
      @ryankasiarz2476 Месяц назад

      @@dannyneff4195 you are on the right track. 15v10 should surrender at a positive count, but hit, instead of surrender, at any negative running count. Additionally, if surrender isn't an option, you should hit 15v10, unless the TC is 4+, then you should stand. You are correct in saying that a 15v9 surrenders at a +2 count

    how do you figure out the running count though when the dealer discards the top card? so that means your running count is 23% chance that it is still 0 and the discarded card was neutral. and equal chances that it is +1 or -1 off with 38.5% each? So do you assume the deck is starting with 0?

    • @chriscarlone527
      @chriscarlone527 3 года назад +1

      You're overthinking it and the way you're trying to count is confusing to me.
      When the dealer "burns" a card, they're just discarding one card off the top of the decks remaining to be played. Why the house does this I don't know, but I do know that it has the same effect as any other card coming out of play, it either adds one, or subtracts one, or does nothing at all as is the case with 7's 8's and 9's to the true count. Burning a card means they're just getting rid of one for the lulz
      You should never assume that the dealer starts the game with a running count of zero because basic mathematics tells us this is literally not the case. If they're using eight decks of cards in the shoe at a total of 52 cards per deck (standard), that's 416 cards in total that are a part of the shoe. At most casinos, the house typically burns a card every time they switch dealers at a table, which can be quite frequent. So you can have a game where they burn multiple cards, and this constantly adds or subtracts from your running total which is what our true count conversion heavily depends on. You need to count every card, but learn to ignore the neutral cards in a sense if that makes any, well, sense.
      There's a Howcast video on Blackjack Hi Lo counting you should check out to help make the explanation of these things easier. Sounds like you're still new to this. You seem to me to be looking at it purely from a mathematical on paper perspective whereas you need to be physically doing the work of counting the cards as the game goes along (+1, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, etc.), then taking your running count and dividing it by the number of decks remaining (which in most cases players learn to estimate it).
