In Spain we’ve seen Juan Tamariz on TV for decades. He’s sooooo funny, because not only he’s a magician, but a great actor. He’s the best card magician and the best entertainer, his tricks seem so simple and so impossible at the same time.
I saw him in person in the 90's in a friend's family reunion. Nicest famous person i've ever seen. He did the last trick in this video, but for like 3 minutes changing colors, numbers and in the end all cards were autographs and he gave one to my brother.

You can absolutely do more of these please! He is absolutely amazing. It's like he's transcended being a magician in some way. That last trick just blew my tiny little mind 🤯
I met him at his home in Madrid 25 years ago. I was singing christmas songs with my friends ("pidiendo el aguinaldo"), it´s like halloween´s trick or treat but in Christmas. He gave us money, candy and a few card tricks, it was an unforgettable moment.
In Spain Juan Tamariz is very well known and appreciated. I've been as espectator in one of his shows a couple of years ago. At one moment he was doing a trick with some cards. A camera was showing in a giant screen a very close view of his hands. He was moving the cards very very slowly. All of us saw how he, apparently, bypassed the card he should be moving (the one that he asked us to follow from the beginning and that we all thought we didn't miss from our sight at any moment) and moved another card instead. He stopped and said : "What? Do you think I bypassed this card? " and then proceed to show us the card...and it wasn't the one that everybody thought it was. He is a master at deceiving till the point that he has written books on how to control the audience. And it is known that the CIA has used some of his techniques. And he is also funny as Hell!
I grew up watching him on Spanish TV (this is actually the first I see him performing in basic English) and every time, including now, he cracks me into laughter. He is such a character, loved by so many, taught so many others. For me, he was pure golden comedy.
He was really prolific in 80s and 90s Spanish tv but he decided to let go of that for some reason. Always a great pleasure to see him, not only a maestro of cards but also an incredible entertainer.
Chris,, you are a treasure and exposing your younger followers (i'm newly 50 and still want to grow up to be Chris Ramsay) to legends like Juan Tamariz, Lennart Green, Tommy Wonder, Bill Malone, etc is in itself a masterclass in magic - plz know how appreciated you are in our community and keep being our best teacher - thx for everything
I've seen Juan a good amount of times, I try to go to his shows everytime he comes to Barcelona, last time, she picked me to get on the stage with him. Not for a card trick, it was more like a sketch but my inner child was so happy to be there with him.
Dude, that 3 card routine is absolutely incredible, especially the last bit at the end. Just mind-blowing. Love your puzzle, magic, and gadget vids, man!
Here in Spain he is very loved. Nicest person, funny and a great master of masters. Been watching him since I was around ten years old, now I'm 45. Never got tired of his enternaining magic. Like you said, what a great pleasure.
Juan es el puto amo! 😀 By the way Chris, i iimagine you looked for videos of Juan where he speaks in "engrish" so it is easier for the vast majority of the audience to get. When Juan does the trick without the language barrier the flow vastly improves. If you find other videos of him but they are in spanish only, let me know which ones are and i will gladly sub them in english for all the folks here to enjoy.
"When Juan does the trick without the language barrier the flow vastly improves." What are you talking about man, I had never heard Juan speaking in english, he is hilarious!
@@dfaultyeah He is hilarious but is true that is a barrier for his great comic side of the show, but at the same time his "poor" english may be found funny by itself. Either way he's great
"I believe in your magic." Actually made me emotional. What a great line. 1.) Because it's emotionally meaningful in itself, and 2.) There really does have to be a level of trust there, and he's acknowledging it- the brief connections made between magician and audiences are brief yes, but meaningful just the same.
Tamariz is one of the best known magic theorists in the world, with his mnemonic deck. Perhaps Tamariz is not known by the public outside Spanish-speaking countries, but he is known among magicians all over the world, as if we were talking about Newton in Physics.
The best and most impossible card magic I ever saw was when Juan Tamariz was surounded from magicians at a magicians conference and was improvising with all people around. Using their decks also... it was absolutly impossible what he did. Greatest cardmagician alive is a hardly to say. But probably yes.
Sorry no, there exists no video from it. I will ask if anyone knows if there exists another video that shows Juan improvising in a group of magicians. It was a youth congress in germany where Juan Tamariz was teaching young magicians like me in that time. Pit Hartling and Denis Behr were also there with me. That is about 25 years ago.
He is indeed a joy to watch. I've been lucky enough to be once one of the people next to him in a table doing his magic . His books are the best material for card magic.
Juan Tamariz es el mejor mago que he visto en mi vida. Desde pequeña viendo sus espectáculos y eran una risa pero además eran increibles. Que genio de tio!!!
Thanks for sharing and making this tribute to Juan Tamariz. He was my idol when I was a child. You have transported me to the 80s. For me, he is the best magician, not only for his tricks, but also for his humor.
When I was very young, Tamariz prepared one of those weekly fascicles courses. I religiously went to the kiosk for more than 2 years so I could complete it fully. In it he taught the very principles of "magic", but also magic history, juggling, papyrus, magic psicology, misdirection... etc. I still have it downstairs. This was before the internet, and it was very detailed for the time. Many many years later I had the privilege of watching him perform live in a 90 minute close up routine, along with some othe magic that was not his forte but still performed convincingly. It was amazing. He is truly a living legend and her daughter is quite good as well. Jandro, who you might know for winning 4 times the Fool Us trophy from Penn & Teller, is probably the natural heir of his style. Good job as always, you brought good memories with this one :)
I'm from Spain and this man is a LEGEND. He not only is the best regarding card tricks, but his sense of humor is on par with them. You should watch him in Spanish if you understand the language.
Thanks for this tribute to Juan Tamariz. He's quite old (80 Years) , but still active and still funny. I feel lucky to be Spanish, because I can understand him, and believe me, his speech is a continuous joke. In english is funny, but in spanish is incredible. When I was a child he was on tv almost every week, and I'm still impressed whenever I review any of his videos.
I've seen him twice in theatre, both helping him in stage, and the craziest thing I've seen is to guess a card THOUGHT by someone that was phoned by somebody from crowd. Amazing! I'm an amateur magician and I know how he does it, but it's still astonishing.
I have been a practitioner of Card Magic for just over 21 years. I'm 35 and have not learned anything new in a decade. Now I'm rediscovering my passion for learning new material, refining my skills and connecting with people and I only just started watching Chris Ramsey but I really appreciate the hard work and passion that comes through these videos! Before today I have never heard of this Spanish magician and after only the first 2 tricks in the video, it's clear to me I have a LOT to learn. One question I have been wrestling with recently since taking magic up again is about personas. It's clear that Juan has an excellent persona while he preforms! I read somewhere that all the best magicians have a persona but I'm unsure of how to approach finding mine as for the last 21 years, I have truly been myself while preforming. I wasn't trying to be something I'm not. I'm genuine, funny, quick witted and kind. I'm worried if I start trying to make a persona now, I might come across as fake or trying too hard. And people Will pick up on that. How should I approach this?
I am not a magician. But have been watching Tamariz for decades on TV. for many 80s and 90s kids here in Spain he was a hero we watched with family weekly. he has been interviewed about that same topic maybe that can be interested for you. Whatever you choose to be, I recommend. you be like tamari humble and gentle with kids and funny. I am sure you will find out. something. that resonates with you.
I'm glad you paid homage to the greatest of the card magicians, we were lucky of seeing on spanish TV in the 80s-90s as well as live in some events around Spain, you brought greatest memmories from my childhood, thanks you very much for this video.
Thanks for an excellent look at a truly amazing magician. What I really enjoyed was your explanations on the thought processes and psychology of what Juan does. It's so easy to overlook just how much work goes into such a effortless looking performance. But it's true, the truly great ones make it look easy. 😏
Man I love when you break things down and even when you leave some mystery regarding tricks and performances for us viewers who arent on the magical venture, when you do that its still cool cuz ur a real azz magician and are willing to not just break things down because you have the knowledge but also show us things some of us may have never seen or heard of before. So good job in general man, these videos are great and this is just a discussion
So true, I can't think of anyone more respected and loved by the audience. I found him funny when I was 10 and I found him funny now 25 years later he is great.
This content is amazing. I learn more from the commentary than from the trick. Juan really shows how magic is not just skill and practice, its also a funny show and that might be most important sometimes.
Oh my goodness, I grew up watching Juan Tamariz. Moreover, I met him in the flesh nearly 40 years ago. Such good memories of him. Thank you for the video.
OMG! RUclips suggested me this video just a few minutes ago. What a great chilhood memories with magician Juan Tamariz! He was often invited to prime tv shows here in Chile in the 80s and 90s, so we know him very well. He's just wonderful, we love him
The amazing Juan Tamariz! I never enjoyed anyone's performance so much as I enjoyed Juan Tamariz. The best years of my life. I have really good memories back then in Spain, he takes me back in time playing that imaginary violin . Being always so humble, smiling all the time, extravagant looking, almost like a fool, but smart at the same time, and what's most important, amazing and making everybody have a real good time, either at home or right there. He really improved my life by making me happy!
Very good vid as always! Would love to have you chip in even more. I really like your input on everything and its always very entertaining to watch someone talk about a subject they are passionate about. Much love!
Juan Tamariz was probably the best known magician is Spain during the 80s and 90s. He appeared on TV very often and was well known for doing the fake violin thing. I even saw him once live in Madrid. Simply marvellous
I have seen this man many times when child at TV in Spain. All he did was always impressive and incredibly comical. Never saw him in foreign countries and I didn't know he was regarded so high. It was a pleasure to watch this video and I hope to watch more about him. Thanks for this.
I remember watching him on TV when I was a child. When I grew up I saw him a couple of time live on a theater and he is amazing and what he does is unbelievable. Years later I saw on TV a documentary about magicians mentioning that he was an internationally renowned magician. Waiting for another one of Juan Tamariz!
As someone from Spain that I am, I can tell you that Tamariz has always been the greatest magician and also the nicest person you will ever meet and despite being very famous he is really kind.
I had chosen the king of hearts. Apart from that, Juan Tamariz is a legend in Spain and, at least in the magicians realm, al around the world. Feels so good to see his work recognised! Kudos to you for talking about him!
He's so great, I always saw him while I was a child. And the way I remember him the most is as a comedian, a man who would always make you laugh, which may be even harder than magic, and on top of that a great magician. Great to watch him again after so long and knowing that his genius has inspired many magicians.
I love this kind of video, to be honest you have one of the most relaxing channels to watch, just a pleasant way to pass 20/ 30 minutes learning new things.its great how so many people on youtube are willing like you to share their passions. I think the level is perfect for someone like me, I am no magician but have a basic understanding of magic, and your videos perfect explain how the many levels, the performance, the psychology, the mechanics of the trick come together to create the perfect performance.
That first trick the host did… I really thought I had him. I BELIEVED that i automatically chose the 4 because I didn’t even look at the others… I did say “I believed” 😂 Great stuff!
I love all your videos but these last ones are just incredible. I'm so lucky of being from Spain and my three favorite magicians are Juan, Dani Daortiz and Mario López and you just review their stuff in this month! I'm so happy these three crazy monsters of magic will reach a lot of people that may don't know them just thank to your videos, so thank you so much Chris, love all your work ❤
I grew up watching Juan Tamariz, at the end of the day I always liked it because he was always so nice. And he taught all of us how to play air-violin!
Soy español y nací en el 76, siempre te sacaba una sornrisa cuándo lo veías por TV, los niños en esa época pedíamos a los reyes magos el juego de magia borrás para ser cómo él.....grande Juan Tamariz 😍
This was great! I chose the 4 of hearts and then I asked my wife to watch it and she also chose the 4. I need to try that one! Great video Chris! Please keep'em coming!
@@sinfulbeliever7083 same. i dont think that was the point though. i think it was just an odds game so that 1/4 of people were fooled. i remember someone doing a trick where they would ask someone to handle and shuffle the deck and to pick a random card. then they would guess it; when it was wrong 51/52 times theyd play it off and say something like "well that would have been really cool if it'd worked, right? lol". but if they did get it(1/52 attempts on average) it would completely blow that person's mind.
What you dont know, is that Juan Tamariz IS indeed a magician. Y makes people happy with is magic. I met him few times in Southern Spain (Cadiz) and is sooooo kind, so normal, and soooooo funny.
RUclips randomly suggested this video... I have almost forgotten this guy... no, that would be impossible! but it's been a long time since I last saw him on TV. Oh man! He is 80 years old now, time flies! Tamariz is part of my childhood, thanks for bringing up so many memories. I don't know if he is sooooo good, but I'm sure he is one of the funniest magicians I have ever seen, for sure!
Juan Tamariz used to drop by the "Magia and Música" bar in Seville an hour before closing, often unannounced. It was a blast watching him do his thing live.
The irony… I picked the 7 of clubs, then noticed it was the only black card and thought, “that’s what you were trying to ‘push’” so I changed my choice to the 4 of hearts and was annoyed that I was wrong still and you got me! Lol 😂 (I’d not seen this video before, I usually watch the puzzle ones, and only recently heard of Juan)
Everything you do is GOLD! I enjoyed this video, and first became aware of Juan Tamariz in the video shown just before Dani DaOrtiz did his trick on “Fool Us”. I also thoroughly enjoyed the video you did when you went to the Magic convention (was it Blackpool?) overseas. Your reaction to some of the tricks you saw was cool, and your performance with the other magicians in the open-air theater was AWESOME! I’ve had magic as a hobby since I was 9, had my first tricks sold to me by the “Coney Island Fakir”, Al Flosso, and at 65, I still enjoy learning more and honing my not-so-great skills! Thanks for what you do!!!
Thanks for uploading this video about Juan Tamariz, not just the greatest card magician ever, but a hilarious comedian and, above all, a wonderful human being 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I grew up watching him on tv (I'm Spanish) and I've seen him live in Barcelona. I always say that this guy, with a deck of cards, can surprise you in a way that no magician with assistants, lasers and fireworks can. He is truly amazing.
Tamariz is a true #1. A national treasure, not just a magician but an entertainer and has a great/absurd sense of humor that always make him light the room where he walks in.
Indeed. I am from Spain and not even into magic except from enjoying as a spectator (and some sponges in my past..) and even if I am pretty sure that Tamariz and spanish magicians are well known among the magician comunity, it is nice to give them (finally) the credit they deserve in the "big screen" of youtube and stuff..
I found your video ramdomly and I have enjoyed so much. I'm from Spain and it makes me remember the times Juan appears on TV and everybody was excited. A promise that something crazy and funny is going to happen. He was capable to make smile the childs and the grandma of every family. He was a genius but also a beloved caracter. And I pretty sure he can speak a better English, but he use thath jumpy accent and his limitations with the languaje as another tool. In Spanish he used to talk very quickly, make some games with words, invent some words for a trick, or produce confusion (for example, forgeting and confusing the names of the persons he was playin the trick at the table, but in a rescpectful and so funny way). Is nice to acces to this and find people who appreciate him, his crazy hair, and his invisible violin.
I was going between the 7 and Ace. I didn't pick the 7 initially because I figured that was the attempted force cause it immediately drew the eye being the only black card so I picked the Ace. Truthfully I didn't even see the 4 lol. So it did not work on me, wonder how many it did work on though.
I'll always remember when I was a kid on late 70's and earlier 80's how my sister and I were mesmerized and laughing out loud every time Juan was in the kids tv show. Genius.
I remember Tamariz on my early years when i watched night tv shows with my family. He is hilarious and always surprised all the family.. I remember him on : Un, Dos,. Tres and many other shows. He is now 80 and i am so happy to see your video.

His celebrations, playing that air violin, are now part of our culture.
Very nice explanation at the beggining about the contrast and the rabbit hole. Tamariz is a master of that.
Juan Tamariz is an institution in Spain. Thank you for sharing him to the world nowadays
Juan es el puto amo! 😀
By the way Chris, i iimagine you looked for videos of Juan where he speaks in "engrish" so it is easier for the vast majority of the audience to get.
When Juan does the trick without the language barrier the flow vastly improves.
If you find other videos of him but they are in spanish only, let me know which ones are and i will gladly sub them in english for all the folks here to enjoy.
Justo esto estaba pensando, Juan en español es incomparable, el ritmo, las bromas. Una maravilla!
"When Juan does the trick without the language barrier the flow vastly improves."
What are you talking about man, I had never heard Juan speaking in english, he is hilarious!
That sounds amazing, is there a video of that somewhere?!
@@joe.5103 I want that video too if it exists
Please video
Sorry no, there exists no video from it. I will ask if anyone knows if there exists another video that shows Juan improvising in a group of magicians. It was a youth congress in germany where Juan Tamariz was teaching young magicians like me in that time. Pit Hartling and Denis Behr were also there with me. That is about 25 years ago.
Dani da ortiz is said to definitely be better
He is indeed a joy to watch. I've been lucky enough to be once one of the people next to him in a table doing his magic .
His books are the best material for card magic.
Juan Tamariz es el mejor mago que he visto en mi vida. Desde pequeña viendo sus espectáculos y eran una risa pero además eran increibles. Que genio de tio!!!
Thanks for sharing and making this tribute to Juan Tamariz. He was my idol when I was a child. You have transported me to the 80s. For me, he is the best magician, not only for his tricks, but also for his humor.
Tamariz wasnt just a magician, he was both a magician and a comic, and he was absolutely brilliant at both. As a kid I totally adored him!
is*
I had the privilege of seeing him live years ago. It was hilarious and incredible. GOAT. One of the best spectacles I have ever seen.
love these videos. Tamariz is amazing. Beyond the card work the energy and presences he brings his art is mind blowing.
I saw him many times on tv when I was a child. Loved him 🥰.. Such a nice surprise to see him here..🤯 Thanks a lot and greetings from Colombia.
I'm from Spain and this man is a LEGEND. He not only is the best regarding card tricks, but his sense of humor is on par with them. You should watch him in Spanish if you understand the language.
True, but his basic knowledge of english is making the whole thing funnier somehow?, I don't know, he is charismatic by his own presence anyway.
Just be yourself. If it doesn’t feel natural, it won’t LOOK natural!
All of us children who grew up in the 80s saw Juan Tamariz and we remember him for his incredible card tricks and humor
Another wonderful legend. Thanks for the introduction, Chris. I will definitely look for more of his work.
So proud of being part of the generation that grew up with him on TV and proud of being a person that has seen him live a few times! Te queremos Juan
¡¡¡Yo también!!!
Tamariz is like family here in Spain. He's not only the greatest card magician of all time, he's also the funniest and most lovable one
I have gone DEEP into the rabbit hole with Juan Tamariz videos. Can watch for hours. The man is a genius. Him and Richard Turner are my favorites.
Much love!
He's amaaaaazing!!!!
I'm Spanish, and I've seen him perform live many times. He's so fun, and as lovely in person as you can imagine!
Juan Tamariz was probably the best known magician is Spain during the 80s and 90s. He appeared on TV very often and was well known for doing the fake violin thing. I even saw him once live in Madrid. Simply marvellous
Great homage to a magnificent Spanish magician. He is 80 years old now. He still performs and has a school for magicians.
As someone from Spain that I am, I can tell you that Tamariz has always been the greatest magician and also the nicest person you will ever meet and despite being very famous he is really kind.
really deep and entertaining, its really cool to see you still keep doing quality content after all these years in youtube
The energy from this dude is insane.
I BELIEVED that i automatically chose the 4 because I didn’t even look at the others…
I did say “I believed” 😂
Great stuff!
I saw him once when I was a younger and i was blown away, he nailed every little detail of the show. Definitely he got me into magic
I grew up watching him on the telly and I'm so happy he is recognized as the genius he was. Thank you Chris, you brought me great memories here!
He is a genius and really fun to watch. An absolute showman. His magic skills are unbeliavable
I love how you hint some things and how you analize others thoroughly but you do both without spoiling the trick.
I recommend another great magician from the old school, Arturo de Ascanio, if you don't know him take a look, you'll love it.
René Lavand called him the master of card magicians!
This was great! I chose the 4 of hearts and then I asked my wife to watch it and she also chose the 4. I need to try that one! Great video Chris! Please keep'em coming!
Didnt work for me. I chose the King of hearts
@@sinfulbeliever7083 same, we must be broken lol
@@And_Rec We are the oddballs who choose the only face card yes :D
I chose the Ace
As a kid I loved seeing Juan Tamariz appearances on TV, he was absolutely hilarious, like 50% clown, 50% magician and another 50% pure chaos
Juan Tamariz was a huge part of my childhood! I saw him on TV so often!
Thanks for uploading this video about Juan Tamariz, not just the greatest card magician ever, but a hilarious comedian and, above all, a wonderful human being 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great video. For us spaniards Juan Tamariz is a national treasure and one of our most beloved personalities.
I picked 7 of clubs, but I get the psychology and love it. Will try it.
I watched Juan in my childhood and I thought he was the standard. Now I realize how great is he.
Thank you for the video.
I grew up watching him on tv (I'm Spanish) and I've seen him live in Barcelona. I always say that this guy, with a deck of cards, can surprise you in a way that no magician with assistants, lasers and fireworks can. He is truly amazing.
You rock, Chris! Thank you for always spreading the love for magic.
When you were explaining the psychology behind the intro trick, you literally walked through my mind as I was picking the card… unbelievable!
Tamariz is a true #1. A national treasure, not just a magician but an entertainer and has a great/absurd sense of humor that always make him light the room where he walks in.
I was raised watching this guy on TV. I'm glad he's being recognized so much later, so far away.
Thank you for remembering Juan Tamariz, bring us so many memories and laughs. All Spaniards's in the 80's grew up with him on tv. Pure magic!
what a legend. Mr. Juan Tamariz. All 80s and 90s kids from Spain were in constant "WOOOOAAAH! :O"
I was going between the 7 and Ace. I didn't pick the 7 initially because I figured that was the attempted force cause it immediately drew the eye being the only black card so I picked the Ace. Truthfully I didn't even see the 4 lol. So it did not work on me, wonder how many it did work on though.
I chose the most obvious one which one the 9 of diamonds, thats how you fool the magician by playing dumb lol
Me and you had the same thought. I picked the Ace as well. Didnt even see the 4.
Heh… I went for the 7 of Clubs. I just liked it best. Maybe because 7 is lucky and I like black better than red.
Also picked Ace, thought Jack initially then Ace. Also didn’t see or remember the 4.
Juan Tamariz was part of the happiest times of my childhood ...🤩🤯😮
I'll always remember when I was a kid on late 70's and earlier 80's how my sister and I were mesmerized and laughing out loud every time Juan was in the kids tv show. Genius.
I remember Tamariz on my early years when i watched night tv shows with my family. He is hilarious and always surprised all the family.. I remember him on : Un, Dos,. Tres and many other shows. He is now 80 and i am so happy to see your video.
