- Take a Ride on The Jurassic Park River Adventure Raft at Universal Studios Hollywood California in "High Definition".
This is a water-based amusement ride that is based on Steven Spielberg's hit film Jurassic Park. The Hollywood incarnation, called Jurassic Park: The Ride, was actually researched and built while the Jurassic Park film was still in its production phase. It opened first at Universal Studios Hollywood as Jurassic Park: The Ride on June 21, 1996. A copy of the ride, called the Jurassic Park River Adventure, was later built at Islands of Adventure at the Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida in 1999. A third copy of the ride is also featured at Universal Studios Japan. There is little difference between the three rides, although the Hollywood version is slightly longer and considered to have the most show elements, and the Japan version was built as a mirror image of both the Hollywood and Orlando versions. A river rapids version of the attraction, entitled the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure, first opened at Universal Studios Singapore on March 18, 2010, and was planned for Universal Studios Dubailand in 2012 before plans for that park were scrapped.
Among the the guests in attendance at the ride's grand opening celebration in 1996 were film cast members Jeff Goldblum, Ariana Richards, and Joseph Mazzello. Steven Spielberg also attended the opening, but requested that he be let off of the attraction before the 85-foot drop (he apparently makes this request every time he rides the attraction).
The main differences in the Hollywood version of the ride from the Florida and Japan versions include two Compsognathuses fighting over a popcorn box, a falling Ford Explorer tour jeep (from the first film) instead of the Velociraptor crate (which is featured in both the Orlando and Japan versions), as well as two encounters with the menacing Tyrannosaurus (both the Orlando and Japan versions feature only one).
A bloody set of Mickey Mouse ears can be seen floating in the water next to the abandoned tour raft, an apparent jab at Universal Hollywood's theme park rival Disneyland. The hat formally had the name "Michael" sewn on it, which was a reference to Michael Eisner, CEO of the Walt Disney Company at the time of attraction's opening. The hat then had the name "Kerr" sewn on it in honor of Kerr Lordygan, the attraction's manager.
The Dilophosaurus attacks occur outside at the water pumping station, unlike the Florida and Japan versions where they occur inside of the Environmental Systems Building. After the second lift hill, the Hollywood version has a slightly bigger drop as well before it makes the 180 degree turn to the main drop. After the main drop, the shaving cream canister containing the zygotes from the film can be spotted to the riders' left just before arriving at the unload platform. Additionally, after the final drop, one more Dilophosaurus sprays guests with water just before the raft returns to the station.
According to a Universal Studios employee, every year, all of the employees take part in what they call a "Duck Hunt". All employees write their name on a rubber duck toy, and place it into the rides river. They then turn the ride on, and the person whos duck completes the whole circuit of the ride (including the drop) wins a prize.
During Universal Studios Hollywood's annual "Halloween Horror Nights", the ride was temporarily renamed "Jurassic Park in the Dark". Alterations included shutting off most of the lights inside the Environmental Systems Building near the end of the ride, while the occasional strobe light illuminated violent scenes of dinosaurs tearing apart scientists and game wardens. Also, the tense Jurassic Park score during this portion of the ride was replaced with "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns 'N' Roses.
On May 10, 2018, it was announced that the Hollywood location would be receiving a Jurassic World remodel. The attraction was becoming outdated due to the film's huge success in 2015. Jurassic Park: The Ride would close on September 3, 2018. After being closed for 10 months, it reopened on July 12, 2019 as Jurassic World: The Ride. The ride includes all new animatronics and special effects, along with a new climax and Indominus Rex animatronic in 2021. See End screen for Jurassic World: The Ride.

Man, I teared up watching this. There are just so many childhood memories attached to this ride. I will NEVER forget the first time I went on this ride, it changed everything... Thanks for posting.
I want to go on this ride so badly as a die-hard JP fan....i appreciate all the attention to detail given at each turn. When we enter the building at 4:02 above us there are even large bundles of cables, and ughhhhh, piping.....and we have to follow that!!!!!
this ride is so much more awesome than the one we played at USS Singapore. The difference was soooo vast, there wasn't even any dinosaur that "popped out". Well done!
For everyone who need some advice on this ride, *READ THIS!* The raft you sit in is very comfortable, but the only problem is that when the raft is ascending the hills, the lap bar puts some pressure on your chest. The drop is not that bad, but you do feel that slight stomach rush. Just hold on to the lap bar very tightly and you'll be fine. It is not bad, so do not be discouraged by the drop. And no, the dinosaur does not come face to face with you - your raft immediately drops. I'm saying this once more, DO NOT be discouraged by the drop! You will get very wet if that is what you were looking for. I believe the drop is 84ft, but it feels like 55ft or something around that. Have fun, and if you have any more questions, please feel free to reply to this comment. :)
I'm going to add to that. If you don't want to get wet, don't sit in the front and sit in the middle. If you want the front and side and don't want to get wet, they sell ponchos. In the summer time, put your head down after the T-Rex, right as you start to drop. There are water jets, and it will hurt your face.

I've been on that ride Once when I was 9 Years old back in 2003..... I kinda liked it but the ending was pretty damn epic I enjoyed it.
This ride looks freakin awesome especially that big T-Rex at the end coming down on top of you that would have freaked me out!
I remember my first time with my family when i was at Universal Studios, Los Angeles and went on this ride, it was just so awesome because back then i was a jurassic park fan, and i still am! Hopefully i will travel back to america soon, in a year or so, and i will definitely go on this ride then!

Thank you for this video. I remember being a little kid on this ride scared straight when the T-Rex came out for the finale! Was so epic. Incredible to relive that feeling years later.
I love this! Movie quality right from the start especially at the beginning when the rays of sunlight are streaming in through the leaves as you approach the doors, and when the doors open the lens flare really makes it a magical experience.

I went... 20 years ago to Universal Studios Hollywood, back them, this ride was de main attraction (at least that´s how I recall it). I was ten years old and got on this ride like 7 times. It was nice watching it again, I remembered every bit of it as I watched this video. I used to have a VHS tape with this ride recorded on it... oh the memories. There was a store right after you finished the ride. My uncle bought me a beautiful jacket, a hat and some other crap... then I hit fuckin puberty and couldn't wear my jacket and my hat anymore. I also remember they gave you a rain coat before you start the ride... watching this, seems like it aint so soaky no more.
Even if 5 minutes of obvious old animatronic dinosaurs dont impress you, I did!! This was the best for me in Universal!!

Despite the long hours of waiting in line this 5minute ride is totally worth it!
Omg this was so fun! I got soaked xD. There is a picture of me and my family as well as my aunt and uncle all on the ride and our faces are hilarious! Same with the mummy ride. It is super creepy when it goes backwards.

I went on that ride as a kid... the raptors and t-rex looked like they were going to hop right in the boat. And that drop! My god at the time I thought I was going to fly out of my seat! I should ride it again to see if I still feel that way.

I went today as it is my 1st time in Florida and Universal Studios. They said the drop was only a bit intense, but I had no idea my glasses would fly off and I’ll become traumatized 😭

HDigames i just went on the ride on July 28 when i came to LA and it was really awesome except for the part where the t rex pops out at the end was broken so it was being repaired... so sadly no t rex ;( but i have to agree with u the drop at the end is INSANE but... at the same time... AWESOME!

For those who don't know the drop is a lot longer than in the video, it's just hard to see because it hadn't fully pointed downward until halfway through.

So, it goes down slowly at first so you can see the T rex, and THEN drops? So the ACTUAL drop isn't as high as 80 feet. Interesting..

I rode this when I was 9 and didn't notice the T-Rex because I was hiding my face in my dad's shirt, lol. Still remember the little dinosaurs squirting water at you, the roar, and the long water drop at the end.
I love this ride
Compared to all the times I've been on the Orlando one, the effects on this ride were much better, especially the end with how there is water and fogg in front of where the t-rex is and comes out as you approach it, where as at Orlando, you plainly see it not moving before you even approach. However, as Compsen said, that drop looked like a joke compared to the drop in Orlando.

Am I the only one who thinks that this ride was much better done in hollywood than in florida because of how believable it is?
1.The ride actually starts to turn towards the normal path before going the wrong way
2. the raptors are close enough to actually seem like real danger for a brief second
3. the t-rex is an inch above your head
