Lol. I should’ve known a professional crocheter would call me out for calling it a knit blanket... Thank you for the wonderful correction!! And thanks for watching! :)
I vacationed in Germany one Christmas. Those folks keep a window open no matter the cold temperature in houses and hostels. They sleep under wonderfully thick duvets with lots of loft so you are toasty warm.Granny squares and shawls with open weave can be used over the face.
Amazon has a USB rechargeable gel filled hot water bottle. It stays warm 6-8 hours and only takes 15 minutes to recharge. I like the idea of the Mr Buddy. I’ve slept in my car without one and had to turn the car on to warm up. That sucks because you have to get up front and suffer until the car warms up enough to provide some actual heat!! Great videos! I plan to do some CR-V camping soon! I love mine!!
Great video with wonderful information. Glad you added the safety points -- common sense but ya just never know... Was very happy to hear you use the heater to warm up the vehicle before turning in and not throughout the night. When I first saw the location of it I just knew, if it was me, I'd probably kick my sleeping bag onto it during the night and start a fire. Not an issue with you not keeping it on. Very smart (and safe!). This was a very informative video with lots of good info. Thanks!!!
Thanks for stressing safety precautions. I used a Carbon Monoxide Detector in my vehicle, before I even started camping in it, because an exhaust system leak in the wrong place can put carbon monoxide in the cabin of your vehicle. Often it is not enough to kill you, but it could make you sick and you don't even realize that is the vehicle fumes making you sick. Blessings for safe travels!
@@LovePatience32 Hi Beth. I did not have a leak, it was for safety, like in your house it is in case you have a carbon monoxide event. I did know 6 teenagers who were killed in a stuck SUV from carbon monoxide and a friend's 2 teenage children who were killed from carbon monoxide in a truck camper. So, I am very cautious about it.
A couple of hints. I saw your Jackery. For $25.00 at Amazon you can get a 2 pack of cheap, 12 V electric blankets. I car camp in Colorado in the winter. With my Dual Fuel camp stove on super low, windows cracked, and electric blanket going you can successfully car camp in sub zero degrees F. Peace!
Good info there and well filmed. I have seen the aftermarket heated seat covers on sale in Canadian Tire and wondered if they would work as a heated blanket to get things warmed up short term. One tip for heat in the car from the cars heater is to check out the cabin filter at the back of your glove box. I hadn’t given the one in my CRV any thought in the four years I’ve owned it. Heat output was a bit uneven from driver to passenger side and after putting a new filter in that has improved as well as heat output in general as well as the a/c cooling in summer. Also takes the strain off the blower trying to push the air through a plugged filter. Mine was pretty full of crap so it’s worth doing and keeping an eye on.
This video is amazing because you explain how you've made your setup, and why you've done something. I was truly inspired to make my own Honda CR-V camper because of this video! I recently posted a RUclips video of a FULL bed platform that fits in a 01-06 Cr-v if anyone is interested. Thank you to the poster of this video! Ventilation especially for a heater is essential! Car insulation is a must! This guy has practical applications for your camper build, that will actually be useful in reality!
Thank you for your videos. i have a much lower roof vehicle , and have started dabbling on road trip/car-camping. Your method of keeping the passenger seat behind the driver is exactly what i have done in order to have an area where i can sit up, change, cook! while keeping the bed - passenger side, kept as a bed AND my work and cooking area if i need to be inside or stealth!! Awesome tips! Now i need to familiarize myself more with camp sites, free /disprese, paid, etc. I have been doing national forests and loving it..
Right on, Erick! Sounds like we have a very similar setup. I’m certainly glad I’ve been able to help with some tips here and there. Keep rockin it!! I use Freecampsites.net and the Campendium app to find plenty of my free spots ;)

I have a 2004 Honda Odyssey I've set up for sleeping and living in just in case. Wisconsin winters get cold so even though it's November it's still not really cold enough to try it out. But I do have a military -20 Goretex sleeping bag I can try out and my intention is to get a solar battery like the Jackery 500 to use with a personal 200w heater I have and/or to power an electric blanket since it is just a very small area I would need to keep warm. I read a RUclipsr up in Alaska who uses the same heater in his teardrop and says it gets very warm. Plus the Jackery or whatever solar battery of the right size you choose can power so many different things. From all that I have read, the propane heaters like the Mr. Buddy heat up way too quickly and will turn even a van into an oven and then there is the safety aspect of using one.
use to tent camp in winter...-6 sleeping bag, balaclava, thick socks, long johns, gloves, two dogs, nalgene water bottle as hot water bottle. sleeping in car now so made reflexives for windows.. thick lightweight garage standing mat under foam mattress, but love your idea of the crochet blanket.. thinking those buckets you get to absorb moisture might be a goer...i already save all the sachets you get in food container and put these in my food containers, food buckets and shoe bags to help with moisture.... so trip to op shop to get the blanky.. thank you great vid..
Hot water bottles are a big win for car camping/living, as they are one item with multiple uses. They'll help keep you warm in winter, work as a heat pad for injury/sickness, as an ice/cool pack to cool you in summer and for injuries, they can also work as a camp shower. I'm sure there are even more uses.
I bought a small 40 x 50“ low watt electric blanket which plugs into my Jacorey and does a superb job of keeping me warm at night. Usually run it for just an hour and then turn it off. That only uses about 10% of the battery supply.
New to your channel and loving it. So much great info. Whoever made you that crochet blanket...ask them to make you a hot water bottle cozy! Or hit me up. I’ll do it 😜
Great content. Another basic idea is to position the vehicle angle etc so the front of the vehicle is facing the wind. Also if you have a wall of trees or something solid like a building or embankment that cuts down on the cold wind it can help.
Get a small dog to sleep with. Keep the window cracked open for security reasons, the dog will b ur alarm to protect u from man or beast. The dog knows it has a good life w/u.
Great idea! But you will have to locate good vets first. It pains me to even think about the possibilities of them getting sick all of a sudden and not able to express it.

Nicely done -- simple and well considered adaptations, for sure! You might also check out 12 volt car heating pads. Could be the Jackery can handle such a modest load without much trouble . . .
Rain Guards will Help so You Can Crack Your Windows. A Large Candle will give some heat. As you say That Sleeping Bag. Hot water Bottles and as you say head Covering
Great video and info. I'll be taking my 2004 CRV on the road this spring and summer to the NW, and your videos have been great for planning for car camping.
I think that opening a vent should work too, so that you don't need to open a window if it's raining or snowing....just angle the slats towards the floor....as that's where the gas would pool.
Actually no, as I stated in the video, you should always open a window or sunroof at least 2 inches while using this or any other heater inside your vehicle. Cheers!

Hola , se que ha pasado mucho desde la publicación de este video pero me pienso comprar un crv y viajar a muchos lugares, quiero agradecerte por toda esa información, muchas gracias, saludos desde Bogotá Colombia
I had an idea so you're not sitting in the dirt, under your awning (with your cool metal table) I have an 8x8 AstroTurf carpet, it looks like beautiful green grass, keeps dirt knocked off my sneakers & feels great on bare feet. Since it's plastic water isn't an issue. You could roll yours up strap it to your roof rack when you're traveling
Also helps if you reroute your wiring inside the vehicle if you know how. Then use foam gap filler once the wires are out of the way still accessible. Makes a massive difference in hot/cold and sound!
If you are serious about long-term, "All Weather" insulation upgrades for your Honda(..or any SUV'RV/van-life'ng..)vehicle, the ultimate step is to remove ALL the interior, plastic body, door & roof panels... ..And retrofit 'Aerogel' insulation batting material across ALL metal surfaces, before replacing your interior & headliner. A fair bit of work--and 'aerogel' is pretty expensive but definitely should keep the inner climate stable with much less heat/energy consumption by fuel burning devices. I've been waiting for a chance to add this on my CR-V, but not this season.
I respect your thoughts but that’s not what this particular build is about. My home on wheels philosophy is “doing more with less”. Less build, less $$$, more fun, more freedom!” But I think it’s great if that’s what you’re into. There’s no one way fits all. Have fun out there! FYI: I’ve been more than comfortable living with what you see here, for many months on end, in all sorts of weather and conditions. It’s possible :))
Curious if anyone else has a finicky battery setup that gets too cold in deep winter on their CRV that doesn’t like to start up without a little extra juice. If so what are you traveling with as far as transportable jump start box when in the middle of nowhere? Thanks for another great video, just added carbon monoxide sensor to my buy list and appreciate showing the tipping shut off as I camp with my wiener doggo who may knock things over.
I know alot of people say the oxygen thing about the propane heater but i have one in my house and i dont vent and i have never had an issue at all with carbon monixide poisoning at all .. also for the windows alot of campers use reflectix ..
Great tips especially regarding the little heater and the safety with using one. I fold up a down comforter on top of my mattress and then a big mummy down sleeping bag. That really makes a big difference to me and stay plenty warm. Nice tip about the beanie and agree with the window covers.
I just found and subscribed to your channel. Man, the way the backseat folds is amazing. I do have a request for your channel ( and for SUV RVing and softroadingthewest ) to show yourself actually on your sleeping platform. I don't recall ever seeing video of anyone sleeping in such a small vehicle. I'm currently shopping for a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk KL to convert.
thank you for great video. I just bought a CR-V. Now to go to work. Got to figure out how to get that seat out. Where can I go to get that done or a video do you have on it.
Ohmigosh! I think I just watched all of your videos tonight. I have too many questions! It seems like you haven’t don’t the actual platform build video yet... when you do I hope you’ll talk about the seats and what you did with them. My crv is an 08 and the seats do that strange fold up and over thing. I assume I will have to take out the passenger side seats. (Love that you kept the one backseat.) Will you talk about and show how the seats come out?) So many other awesome tips! Thanks so much!!!
Hi Jessica! Thank you so much!! I really appreciate you being here. As far as seat removal goes I just searched “2004 Honda CR-V rear seat removal” and bingo! As always, RUclips delivered the goods. Please let me know if you have any other questions :)
Thank you for your video. Thank you for being safe about the heater. So does condensation still build up if the windows are cracked while you're sleeping? Don't you need circulation? I can't imagine not having a window cracked. Also did you Siri you got the window covers? So are you working on the road? I'm in a situation room trying to figure out how to move forward healing an illness..wondering if I need to go on disability or so trying to figure this all out a lot. I need a new car as well crvi would be nice. One day at a time I figure this out.
I like the simple crochet granny square blanket to remove condensation. You gotta remember to do some kind of ventilation, too, though, if the vehicle is bigger like a mini van or fifteen passenger build. For solo with doggo this is just about right on... thanks for the info!🤗🐿️🦆💞🦅🌼🌲🌱🌈🌹🦃 Where did you find your Mr. Heater? I'm taking my second trip out in February to visit my fiance and kids from school. One state to another. I'm too cheap and can't afford to pay for hotels and stuff except for once in awhile for engaged encounter privileges. Thank you! God bless you 🙏🤗🌈🌹💞🌼🙏🌾🌲🌱🌈 Cool!
Love the CRV mods! I have a 1999 CRV I'm selling to buy a 2004/2005 Crv to start modifying for my year-round camping trips here in Oregon. I use a Gazelle T4 pop-up tent for a quick setup and will use my CRV I set up for cooking, storage, and a sleeping area if I need it. I've had problems over time with my Little buddy and 2 other buddy heaters not wanting to light in cold weather and clogging the pilot light and had to repair them myself at camp, not fun in a freezing tent. I now use a Kovea Cupid Butane heater, It's much smaller, more stable, lights every time and is very warm in my tent. Thanks for the tips.
Nice!! Have a blast with your CRV, they are great vehicles. I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos! Also, that heater sounds great. So far, I haven’t had any problems with the Little Buddy but I’ll keep that in mind and maybe do a comparison at some point. Cheers!
Having a Jeep Compass and using it to sleep in on occasion while overland camping these are awesome tips, especially regarding the Little Buddy heater. I have the larger Mr. Buddy which I was going to place in a large tent and use a carbon monoxide detector. So far I have not turned on my heater. I like to keep my sleeping area well ventilated and place those door mesh kits on each rear passenger window allowing me to crack both windows. Also, vent shades are mounted above each window to keep rain out. I have a zero degree Coleman and I "prewarm" it with either a 32 ounce Pathfinder bottle of hot water wrapped in a large wool sock or a couple of chemical hand warmers. I sleep in a merino wool base layer, fresh Darn Tough socks, merino wool ski cap and either a balaclava or neck gaiter, also merino wool. I usually stay toasty warm but I do keep a military woobie, a Snugpak jungle blanket or alpaca blanket alongside the Coleman just in case. I do have a Jackery 240 and have thought about using an electric space heater or an electric blanket. The Jackery keeps my refrigerator operating while the ignition is off; it's capable of handling the extra load should I need it. It's been a very mild late fall so far so I haven't resorted to anything but using the Coleman alone.
I know you mentioned your friend gave you the window insulation but do you know what brand it is? I’m looking for something stealthy like that isn’t so obvious like Reflectix . Thanks! Love the CRV.
hi, the video is very interesting and informative but video shaking too much. Best to use a tripod and swivel to different focus... please do not be offended.
I got the best of both worlds, 100 watt solar, on my aluminium checker plate roofbox, 100 amp hr AGM Battery in a powered battery box/ Waeko 20L car fridge freezer/ or my Brass Monkey 50L dual zone fridge freezer / a 2000 Watt Ryobi generator & a 1000 to 1500 water electric heater, tip over saftey. The generator can run electric hot plates or a deep fryer, or an electric frying pan when there's a fire ban in the Australian summer. I have a kings awning, with 3 screens on all sides for cooking, inwont cook in my car. A 7 inch led light bar & a halogen spotlight on either side of it mounted on the roof rack.
Whenever you feel cold! Everyone is a little different, so we all just do as we please. But for me, I don’t use the heater unless it’s going to be sub zero -0°
Propane scares me, haven't warmed up to it yet so I think an electric hater might be more my speed. Won't be doing any extreme wilderness camping unless I have a experienced person with me.
how long does your gas last for that heater? how many hours? can you sleep all night? & do you know of anyone who uses solar heat with a Jackery & tiny space heater? thank you.

I know alot of people say the oxygen thing about the propane heater but i have one in my house and i dont vent and i have never had an issue at all with carbon monixide poisoning at all .. also for the windows alot of campers use reflectix ..
Possibly go all out and fit a diesel heater in the spare wheel well under the rear floor, would have to have a larger 2nd battery tho to power it.
Don't drop the sleeping bag on the little buddy like I did. Works pretty good for being warm and not in the bag...but yeah don't sleep with it on.
I bought that heater and it says indoor safe, however, I am not comfortable smelling the CO while sleeping.
I do not recommend using a propane heater while sleeping. And always crack a window for ventilation when you are using it.
You can get a portable carbon monoxide detector
Great tips especially regarding the little heater and the safety with using one. I fold up a down comforter on top of my mattress and then a big mummy down sleeping bag. That really makes a big difference to me and stay plenty warm. Nice tip about the beanie and agree with the window covers.
Thanks again, Tina!! I appreciate your kind words.
Hi!! Thanks for your thought. I should be able to incorporate a sleeping shot at some point. Good idea. Thanks!!
Hello again, I took your request into consideration and I’ll be releasing a video for you VERY SOON! Thanks for chiming in!
I miss my 02 crv. Had a similar set up.
I hooked the heater up to a 20 lb bottle, works good
Nice! Thanks for watching!
I was thinking I need an Odyssey BUT if this is what the room is like I'll stick with the 07AWD crv I'm getting
I Love it 💖💖 its super fun it’s a wonderful experience thank you for sharing
thank you for great video. I just bought a
CR-V. Now to go to work. Got to figure out how to get that seat out. Where can I go to get that done or a video do you have on it.
Thanks for the winter tips! I'd like to know more about your crv build, please 🙏
Hi there! I’ve got two big videos that go into all the build details. Check them out. Thanks!!!
I use a 12v 500watt heater and if to cold with that I have 360,000mah powerbank I made with few EV lithium cells that power usb heated blanket
(Love that you kept the one backseat.) Will you talk about and show how the seats come out?)
So many other awesome tips!
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for the info on how to stay warm.
Thank you!!! You are most welcome!
This is really helpful! Thanks alot new subscriber here
Nice rig and set-up. Great, essential tips - thanks!
Thanks sooo much!!!
Very informative video..in future please don't move the camera so fast...up and down or mostly side to side...
Lol. Thanks for being here. Still working on my camera-craft. I appreciate your patience and support. Happy Holidays!
Get a single mattress protector/ here no moisture will penetrative it.
I have them on all the mattress's in my home since new.
That bottle of Jameson by the cooler could be considered a heat source too. Either consumed or combusted.
Has nyone tried sleeping in one of the battery powered electric vests or coats?
I'm curious about anyone's good or bad luck with electric socks?
Thank you for your video. Thank you for being safe about the heater. So does condensation still build up if the windows are cracked while you're sleeping? Don't you need circulation? I can't imagine not having a window cracked. Also did you Siri you got the window covers? So are you working on the road? I'm in a situation room trying to figure out how to move forward healing an illness..wondering if I need to go on disability or so trying to figure this all out a lot. I need a new car as well crvi would be nice. One day at a time I figure this out.
Hi Diane! Yes... one day at a time gets it done. Keep going, you’ll get there. I find cracking a window helps a LOT. THANK YOU
I can't find the material you used for your side windows. Do you have a link?
I'm curious as to what you guys do to turn the dome lights off while you're keeping the doors open.
I’m in a 2016 CR-V. It has a shut off for interior lights.
Yes indeed. It has an auto shut off setting. Cheers!
I have heatshield window coverings too. I thought the silver went on the outside.?
Thanks for sharing great tips! 👍
Thank you, Avery!!!
Cheers!
Great tips dude...
Where did you get the window foam? Also, where did you get the sleeping bag? We want to get Honda CRV and go camping.
Great video man thanks!
Thanks!!
I know you guys using that kind of heater could make a stand or something to keep it from falling over.
It comes with a stand that works well but yes, I’m sure one could improve upon it if need be. Cheers!
I agree. A broader base on the heater would lower the centre of gravity?
Cheers!! Sounds like you’ve got things rockin
Love your videos! Thank you 😊
Thank you sooo much, Elley!!
Great review 👏
I know you mentioned your friend gave you the window insulation but do you know what brand it is? I’m looking for something stealthy like that isn’t so obvious like Reflectix . Thanks! Love the CRV.
COZY!!😲🥱😴😴😴😴😴
It sure is!!
Thank you for the info
hi, the video is very interesting and informative but video shaking too much.
Thank you for the tips..
You are very welcome! Thanks!
Can you comment on what temperatures you use specific measures to stay warm?
Whenever you feel cold! Everyone is a little different, so we all just do as we please. But for me, I don’t use the heater unless it’s going to be sub zero -0°
Because I know nothing, I haven’t seen one car camping video where anyone uses Mylar blankets in their sleep setup. Is there a drawback to them?
Propane scares me, haven't warmed up to it yet so I think an electric hater might be more my speed. Won't be doing any extreme wilderness camping unless I have a experienced person with me.
Awesome informative TYSM
Thank you!!!
Thanks for the info.
Thank YOU
New Subbie. Thanks for great ideas. I have same CRV, older model.
Welcome!! I’m so happy to help. Enjoy your CRV!
lol It's a crocheted blanket. :)
Hahahaa. Yes, thanks. You’re not the only one to correct me. Lol. I appreciate it. Cheers!
how long does your gas last for that heater? how many hours? can you sleep all night? & do you know of anyone who uses solar heat with a Jackery & tiny space heater? thank you.
You look like Jim Jefferies, it's cool
Can high powered jackerys run the little ceramic heaters?
HI Maybe i miss it, but do you have a car fridge? if not, do you intend to get one?
Hi! I use a Yeti Roadie 20 cooler. Thanks for watching!
