This was probably the most helpful video I’ve encountered explaining light and shadow to create a glow. I’m working on a painting of a marina in Florida that is covered in the glow of the sun starting to set. I love the technique of painting the sun and glow first and then painting shadows to create the rest because the glow is what it’s all about! Would love to know how you achieved the softness in the painting. I’m sure it has to do with oils versus acrylics, which is what I paint with. Thanks for this awesome video
Hi Dan, thank you for sharing your sunset 👍. That is a big challenge to transform the reference image into your sunset painting. I am excited to use this technique in my own work.
That was fantastic, Daniel! I would love to see more landscape videos from you. Your explanations were so clear and helpful, and the painting is gorgeous -- what a special gift for your friends.
Wow! 🤩 Apart from it being a spectacular painting, just listening to you explain the process made my eyes tear up. Needless to say, an inspiring, romantic story of a beautiful couple in love! Evolve ROCKS! I am starting block 1, part 11 now and loving every minute of each assignment! Thank you ❤
Thanks Rich! Yeah hopefully now that you're in Block 8 this video helps reinforce the power of what you learned in Block 5 and what can be done to apply it in different ways🙂~ Daniel
Wow, Folta this is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your creative prosess with us and showing how thr fundimentals played a part! Jason and I are always genuinly blown away by the videos that you put out. This video especially even made Jason want to paint!!! :D
Fabulous demonstration of value, edge and color, Daniel. I am enjoying the course so much, almost finished with block 1. Being a process improvement professional (Toyota lean principles) working in Healthcare, I teach the people to use the same tools Kevin teaches - in lean they are described with the terms standard work, visual management, mistake proofing, flow, and perfection to name a few. That is what drew me to sign up for the course. I am looking forward to starting block 2 very soon.
Oh wow that’s really cool how your focus on process brought you to Evolve. It’s definitely something we focus on a lot as it makes the journey of painting easier, quicker, and more fun. Every painting that I work on is a new challenge in using the same tools to find the most effective / efficient technique / process to yield the best result. It’s like a puzzle that’s really rewarding to solve. Right now in Blocks 1-3 we’re giving you one process to paint, but by the end of Block 4 you’ll have two ways to make a painting. In the Advanced Program’s Block 5-7 you’d learn 3 more, and then in Block 8 explore the different ways you can stitch multiple techniques together. ~ Daniel
Thank you! Most of my paintings are commissions and consequently my original paintings are already sold. If you're interested in a commission, contact me directly through my instagram (instagram.com/danielfolta) or my website (danielfolta.com). I also have prints available to sell on my website. I haven't posted this sunset painting available for print yet, but will do that soon. Let me know if that's something that interests you. ~ Daniel
@@evolveartist What a beautiful State Daniel, but a converted bus seems a little tight for painting. I did have a question about why you toned you canvas since the color really did not show through your opaque paint you were using or did I miss that you were using a glaze?
@@karenp227 The color actually does show through subtly in the trees. I painted the circular gradient with slightly thinned down opaque paint so that I could still see my sketch underneath. If I had painted the gradient with the same thinness there would have been some white either peaking through or slightly diminishing the vivid colors in the gradient. I also let some parts of the clouds show some of the tone as well. Let me know if that makes sense 🙂 ~ Daniel
@@evolveartist Yes it does, I did not notice the sketch showing through, nor did I realize the beautiful color in the cloud was partially due to the toned canvas showing through. Again this is just such a wonderful painting. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question.
Professor Mr. Daniel your work is awesome, outstanding. You're incredible. Thank you.
