    I love the new Global musical emphasis. You guys are doing an excellent job. I used to be the editor of a zine back in the mid 1990's called Symposium. You guys do an bang up job of evoking that feeling of the old school fan zine updated with newer technology. 5/5 Skulls

      @zerototalchaos Check out Unholy. Also newer bands such as Stench of Decay and Ascended played rather doomy death metal. If you don't mind really old demo production, theres a few more like Skeptical Schizo, Ater, Holy Hell, etc. There's a lot to dig into.
      If funeral doom is fine, Skepticism, Thergothon, Tyranny, Shape of Despair are good starting points.

    Other less known Finnish traditional doom bands that I quite enjoy that weren't mentioned in the video are also Caskets Open, Fall of the Idols and Serpent Warning. Overall this episode was really solid and you can tell Sarah is really into the scene, which is always nice to see.

      @onthe1481 6 лет назад +1

      In reality it doesn't get any better than that. And it's not just Southern there was some bands that were not Southern like The Melvins who helped spearhead that sludge style.which is way way way way more heavier than the stuff that I'm hearing right now. In fact some of the stuff is kind of corny it's like they're trying to be hard but they're not pulling it off . Reminds me of a little dorky guy on that pentagram documentary. That guy was about as hard as last week's lettuce

    1:42 Whilst the letter å does exist in the Finnish alphabet, it is only there because of Swedish and its position as the second language of Finland at around 5% native speakers in the country (in Finnish, a direct translation of the letter's name would be "Swedish O"). Because of this and judging by how he said his last name, though, I think you meant Kärki instead of Kårki.

Having Kimi Karki make an appearance was super cool. Great get. I hope Sarah can be convinced to bring her knowledge and professionalism to wrong the abortions that where the stoner/doom overviews you have now attempted twice and failed at twice.

    I was really stoked to see/hear The Wandering Midget (I Am the Gate, in particular) and Cardinals Folly mentioned, those are great examples of Finnish trad doom. For any fans of those or Reverend Bizarre, I'd also highly recommend Serpent Warning - Pagan Fire. Excellent example of "sticking-to-your-roots" Finnish trad doom that, at the same time, sounds kinda fresh and non-derivative.

    Not the biggest fan of Sarah but I appreciate her passion. Glad seeing doom, hoped for all kinds of doom but I am content. The chronology is also something most of us enjoy because we get to see how the scene flourished so please don't remove that in other videos as you did here. RB is classic but I didn't like any other band because of the vocals, except Cardinal's Folly. Hallatar and Swallow The Sun rip so nice picks there Patreons. Now we need French black, Portugese black, Polish death or let's say Norwegian avant garde or prog.

    Nice and informative, I hope others were taking notes as I was. Love Reverend Bizarre and Lord Vicar, but I'm paying a lot of attention to Cardinals Folly at the moment, as you say, very active at the moment, could do with seeing them in the UK. I'm not familiar with the True Doom manifesto, but I love their almost 'progressive' angle on Doom. I like Doom that speeds up a bit and rocks out. By speeding up, I mean it achieves a regular tempo occasionally ☺☺

    Quite agreed with everything, though the last split from The Wandering Midget is an absolute masterpiece even though there's just one track from them ( also the other band is absolutely masterful, Hands of Orlac, Italo-Swedish band, out of talk for that video though. ). Fall of the Idols needed to be in the top 5, because all their releases are masterpieces.
    Could have named Serpent Warning at the end, quite good stuff as well. Also Mansion had to be named, master band, and absolutely crushing live performance ( Muskelrock 2014 ).

    Otherwise, on French black metal starting with Les Légions Noires, which is a weird group of bands, same as the constellation of bands around Peste Noire and Alcest, and also different styles of black metal like Deathspell Omega, and regional ones (Brittany ftw !) like Belenos, Heol Telwen, Bran Barr and such. A lot of classic and excellent black metal albums there.

    I listened to all the bands in the video,I really tried Doom but I just find those vocals boring and the production usually overfocus on the vocals... usually the doom I like is mixed with sludge,Conan( my favourite doom band), Graves at sea,monolord , Eagle twin , kurokuma and only the first album of candlemass (killer riffs and drumming ) I like my doom barbaric :D

    Great review! I’m not sure if this band is still together or if they fit the genre but Ultra Mayhem is pretty good and are Finnish. I Just thought I’d share if you want to check them out.

      I don't speak Portuguese but love Sinistro - Patricia Andrade's voice,is alluring providing beautiful ethereal and gothic vocals in Portuguese with slow chugging doom style music as a backdrop that move up a gear or two in parts providing a reverb laiden wall of sound on both Semente and Sangue Cassia
