    One condition about eating durian ***don’t drink alcohol when you’re eating durian, it can cause your life because Durian can stops an enzyme that helps detoxify alcohol called Aldehyde. Normally, this enzyme helps the body detoxify alcohol well. Durian will interfere with this work and can cause lead to severe dehydration and loss of oxygen levels in blood if you’re not in hand of doctors in time then can lead to death.

    I am pleasantly surprised that the market area is not overly crowded the way I had imagined. Maybe I will convince the hubs to visit Thailand some time in the off season. I can't get over how affordable the food is!

    • @TheDufresnes
      @TheDufresnes  4 месяца назад +8

      Ya low season is a good time to come! Food is so inexpensive here. Durian was the most expensive, but in the south where its abundant right now, they pretty much give it away! We can order a meal on grab for less than a slice of pizza in the USA or Canada and it's healthy food!

    Some durians can have really strong smell. You might find the ones on the milder side. Also, durian's smell gets stronger in the air- con places and the smell will stick in the air-con system too, that's why Durian is not allowed in the places with air-conditioning.

    Do you know that when a durian becomes overripe and the flesh starts to soften, its smell gets stronger and stronger? The sweetness also increases, but you might not like the smell. That's why I usually recommend eating durian that isn't too ripe. The flesh is still firm, the flavor isn't too sweet, and most importantly, the smell isn't too overpowering.

    It’s an adventure, but not an everyday thing to do and get fulfilment of grubs for your dinner by eating other bugs. My reaction would probably be the same as your assistant food taster Laki. 🤮🐛
    Good to hear Scott & Kathy are joking in the adventure, that should be fun,
    Scott loves his food, so eating a scorpion might not be filling enough for him, he may have to go for a bag of fried grasshoppers and crickets.
    Can’t wait until you go to a Thai restaurant for some more upscale food.

      Sorry for the misspelling of Lakai’s name.
      Things are good here as always, compared to anywhere outside of the Western Media World. Tourist visits are up 14.5% according to the recent Tico Times article. Good for the businesses, but not so much for knuckleheads like me. 😄

      @@TheDufresnes That’s interesting. The people I know who have been here in Uvita for 10+ years, they close there little AirBnb’s or B&B’s for a couple of months, but they’ve had to open it last week for the weekly reservation requests they were getting from Europe. My friend Alex works for the Private Chef company here in Uvita, and they usually slow down in the off season, but they’ve had 3 teams out these past 3 months doing breakfasts, lunches and dinners at nice rental houses from Ojachal to Dominical for large groups of U.S. visitors.
      Eds a little busy with his day excursions but not to much.
      Also the big 5 bdr rental above me has been occupied by different groups, Ticos and Gringos this past month or so.

    Durian is like other fruits. Some are sweet and delicious. But if you pick the wrong one maybe it has plain taste like cheese or onion.
    For the smell, it's dependent on people. Some think it smell bad. Some think it smell OK.
    13:55 I don't like that facial expression from that Burmese employee. The owner should teach her about the manner.
    Ps. Something that the foreigners don't know is not all Thai people eat bugs. Only some people eat it. Especially scorpion 99.99999% Thai people don't eat it. Only see the western tourists eat it.

    • @TheDufresnes
      @TheDufresnes  2 месяца назад

      Yes, just like any fruit some can have an off taste, of course Durian is much different tho and can have a very bead smell or taste depending on the fruit itself. We didn't notice the facial expression.
      A lot of Thai people do eat bugs, we've seen a lot of Thai people buying bugs as a snack at many places through out Bangkok, there was a line up at the stall outside of Lotus's in On Nut on Sukhumvit rd. Even the Northern Thai restaurant that is in our next video that comes out was selling packaged fried bamboo caterpillars.

    รสชาดทุเรียนจะต่างกันเพราะบางทีเขาซื้อลูกที่สุกมากแล้วทุเรียนเนื้อมันจะเละครับส่วนที่พวกคุณกำลังกินคงเป็นลูกที่สุกพอดีเนื้อทุเรียนเลยออกกรอบนอกนุ่มในกลิ่นเลยไม่ค่อยแรงคนที่ไม่ชอบทุเรียนที่กินครั้งแรกคงเป็นเพราะไปเจอลูกที่สุกมากจนเละกลิ่นเลยแรงมากและเนื้อก็ไม่ค่อยหน้ากิน😅😅😅😅😊😊😊

      Ya we could see how it wouldn't be as good when it's over ripe, much like most fruit. The mushy texture when over ripe wouldn't be very good. Thanks for watching 😊
