Just to let you guys know - this isn't a work of fiction. This is a documentary that covers three days and two nights in the life of a milk truck delivery driver in the Australian outback, less than a week after the Internet went down. 😁
One of my FAVORITE reactions!! You guys seriously made my whole YEAR with the birthday celebration!! I appreciate you both, SOOOO MUCH! And I'm SO GLAD you guys enjoy my recommendations!!❤❤
Those polecats(the guys standing on this long poles attached to motorcycles) are actual members of Cirque De Soleil, they achieved many of the stunts practically
I was really appreciating and in awe of the stunts. Of course, some things were CGI, but I could tell the polecats were real. Very cool (and dangerous!). 🙌🏽 🔥 🔥
I dragged my young coworkers to watch this in theaters, they were all so young they never heard of Mad Max before. One of them loved the movie so much he said he had a smile on his face the whole time and then dragged his gf to watch it with him the next day.
The idea is that the deserts of Western Australia are so isolated, so far away from major cities, that after a nuclear war it’s one of the few places the radiation levels aren’t fatal.
This is one of my top movies of all time! George Miller is a genius! The cinematography, editing, action sequences, everything are all simply unbeatable.
The redhead is Elvis Presley's granddaughter and she owns his entire estate. She married the Doof Warrior in real life. He's the guy playing the flaming guitar.
Almost. She married the Doof Warrior stunt double (Ben Smith-Petersen). Not the actual actor (Sean Hape aka Iota). The Furiosa and Max stunt doubles also got married.
Good to see you giving the proper acknowledgment for Nux's character arc. Most people see this as a movie about Max and/or Furiosa, but in my opinion this is Nux's movie. He's the real hero and the development he goes through is both heart-warming and heart-breaking. Just a little side note as well. The spray paint that they use before they die is called Night Fume. It's a drug and they use it for euphoria and adrenaline before dying. When Nux is lying in the back of the rig and Capable goes back and talks to him, he tells her about his tumors (Larry and Barry) and says "If they don't get me, then the night fevers will." "Night Fever" is what they call the hangover they get after using night fumes. Great reaction to my favorite movie!
9:02 She's crying because those are *her* boys that are dying out there defending the rig. As implied by their impeccable teamwork and brevity code-words, they are a crew that have worked together for a pretty long time in service of Immortan Joe. They won't come with her and she knows it but it doesn't hurt her any less to see them die.
George Miller is from Australia. Here, there's a slang term called chroming, which is where someone inhales volatile substances to get high. That chrome stuff they spray on their mouth probably has some kind of euphoric effect so they're less hesitant to die.
Actually, it's to do with their love of cars. Their cult revolves around "riding the highways of Valhalla". Even the way they pray with their hands mimics the shape of a V8 engine. They send themselves to the afterlife with "chrome grills"!
9:50 the Warboys paint their faces before death so they have a "chrome grill", just like a car. The way they put their hands together to pray mimics the look of a V8 engine, with eight "pistons".
Hugh Byrne, the actor that played Immortan Joe would stay in character while on set. He'd get all the warboy extras to chant and get them pumped up by leaning into the character of Immortan Joe 100%.
Mad Max movies are renowned for state of the art practical effects, insane car chases and amazing stunt work. Fury Road is the pinnacle of the series, barely giving audiences a moment to catch their breath. George Miller, the creator of the series, was finally given a huge budget and he didn't waste a penny of it. Great reaction, guys!
the warboys culture is one of the coolest things about this movie imo. its so deep and yet very little is really flat out said. they're spraying chrome paint and essentially huffing themselves into a frenzy, hence "shiny and chrome". they also have an obsession with martyrdom in spectacle in the name of Immortan Joe who judges their deeds and elevates his crew based on capability and grit.
hell yeah, 18 minutes in im already excited for furiosa reaction, that one's tough too 🔥. Yall notice when they do the hand signal over their head the hands are supposed to be a V8 engine lol
Magazine is not a clip. A clip is a little strip of metal that holds rounds together like with the M1 Garand. Fully enclosed boxes with ammo are called magazines.
Fact: Hugh Keyes Bryne, Immortan Joe, was gonna be the Martian Manhunter in George Miller's scrapped Justice League movie. R.I.P to him, or better yet, may he ride with eternal glory to the gates of Valhalla! Also, Megan Gale, who played the Valkyrie, was gonna be Wonder Woman.
Furiosa's action scenes are steps above this movie's....Hard to believe but its true. You get the whole back story of Furiosa. Mad Max might be the best series. Starting with the 1979 movie titled "Mad Max"........wonderful times we're livin' in.
When Max says his instinct is to survive, it is a stark contrast to the "warboys" whos entire lifestyle is to self-sacrifice as soon as possible. It's grim to imagine, Max has been clinging on to life, scraping, dragging, surviving; he's lived, lost, suffered, but he never gives in - he's a scavenger, he eats raw lizards - but he's around, he's been at it for years, decades, who knows the "warboys" on the other hand, grow up fast and die young, their whole life is some insane road-war in a bleak existence of little else
Suggestions... Mad Max (1979) This is where George Miller (the director/creator of Fury Road) began this story. Mad Max 2 (Road Warrior) (1981) Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) A few other suggestions... Directed by John Carpenter Escape From New York (1981) The Thing (1982) Big Trouble in Little China (1986) They Live (1988) Directed by Walter Hill The Warriors (1979) Directed by Ridley Scott Alien (1979). The beginning of the franchise. Blade Runner (1982) Directed by David Fincher Se7en (1995) The Game (1997) Fight Club (1999)
The chase scene before the title card has every other frame removed to make it appear subtly faster to represent the desperate, adrenaline soaked perspective of Max
The Russians (buzzards) and motorcycle guys are different factions actually. I forget the name of the motorcycle guys, I think Furiosa says what they're called when she explains to Max the deal they're planning at the pass. Edit: they call themselves Rock Riders, apparently. That's appropriate I guess lol
I'm surprised you guys haven't seen this one! 😮 One of my all time favorite movies! Three other top tier movies you guys should check out for the channel if you haven't seen them are 1. The Iron Giant 2. Fight Club 3. The Matrix
The thing about this movie is how little dialogue/exposition there is, and yet you get the "feel" of how that world works and who's who. George Miller trusted the audience to be smart enough to fill in the blanks so that he could get right to the action, something not a lot of moviemakers do these days.
I remember a time of chaos, ruined dreams, this wasted land. But most of all, I remember the road warrior, the man we called Max. To understand who he was we have to go back to the other time, when the world was powered by the black fuel and the desert sprouted great cities of pipe and steel - gone now, swept away. For reasons long forgotten two mighty warrior tribes went to war and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel they were nothing. They'd built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked, but nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. Cities exploded - a whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men. On the roads it was a white-line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice, and in this maelstrom of decay ordinary men were battered and smashed - men like Max, the warrior Max. In the roar of an engine, he lost everything and became a shell of a man, a burnt-out desolate man, a man haunted by the demons of his past, a man who wandered out into the wasteland. And it was here, in this blighted place, that he learned to live again.
It really is something, isn't it? Mad Max is a wonderful vehicle for just passing through this strange post-apocalyptic outback world and meeting the weird and driven people who inhabit it. It's a bit of a different action series to most as for Miller despite the series title it's less about Max and more about the people he meets. The earlier Mad Max movies by him are definitely worth watching too. Astonishing action, he made Fury Road when he was 70! Hang your heads in shame, young Hollywood action directors! :D
Oh, and in regards to the stuff the war boys spray on their face before they do a suicide attack, it’s literally just chrome spray paint. They’re so indoctrinated that they basically worship the cars and engines so a quick blast of chrome is a way of ensuring they get a ride to Valhalla, shiny and chrome. Funnily enough, when this movie first came out there was a brand of sprayable, food safe chrome paint designed for cakes. It sold out on Amazon within days of the movie’s release.
This movie is dense with visual storytelling. Max is reduced to a single instinct in the beginning: survive. Other people are reduced to fodder and breeding stock or nothing at all (the crowds of people in the beginning). He tries to violently free himself and it blows up in his face. After a cooperative transaction with Furiosa, he gets his mask off and reclaims a little more of his humanity. He talks a bit more, he even smiles, but he doesn't think there's a reason to even give his name. Still on that survival kick. As things progress, the group relies more and more on each other, rejecting the brutality of the wasteland (when they don't kill Nux), and their kindness is rewarded. In the swampy place he shows consideration for Nux with the boot. With every scene after, we see him warm up to those around him. At the very end, we see how it all comes together: only after Immortan Joe and his forces are done, the way to the Citadel is clear, there's no more obstacles, does Max willingly give his blood to save Furiosa. In pure survival terms he stands to gain nothing there since he doesn't even plan to stick around. When he does that, he finally fully reclaims his humanity, and he gives his name to her. There's so much going on with this movie, it's one of the few 10/10 films I've ever seen. No filler, all banger.

Plus it's essential huffing paint. Quick high before you get swept up by the V8 Valkyries.

This movie is dense with visual storytelling.
Max is reduced to a single instinct in the beginning: survive. Other people are reduced to fodder and breeding stock or nothing at all (the crowds of people in the beginning). Immortan Joe and his fellow rulers are the only ones who benefit, they've made a system that treats people as machine parts and commodities. And the thing is: there's enough to go around if managed wisely, but instead it's used for the pleasure of a few old men. There is no consent or bodily autonomy, if you don't rule, you are a resource to be used and discarded.
Max's arc is about finding his humanity. He's shorn and tattooed, turned into a blood bag, bound up in a cage, tied to a car, his face caged, on a literal chain leash like a feral dog. He is barely verbal, grunting when he needs to.
