The cooler lid opens up the full way because you can use it for a table ... hence the cup holder indents. Also it has less space than the tool box because of the way coolers are built.
I went ahead and grabbed one despite the leaking and tested it out yesterday in 94 degree weather for an afternoon at the river. My cooler did not leak one bit. I would guess there was about 32 ounces of water melted and tipping it on the side, sloshing it back and forth like you did not get any water leakage. Perhaps you got a bum unit? Overall I’m happy with it.
Mine don’t leak at all after watching this I did the same test with no leak. If you push the lid down before you clamp it shut it makes a seal you can feel the vacuum when you open it next time.
I bought one and took it out yesterday for a few hours. Let ice melt and did this same test in the video. No water leakage at all. I’m guessing he got a bad unit.
Looks like the lid is a tray. Sit the cooler next to you and flip the lid over your lap. (If you have to sit on the ground to eat) the little indent looks like a cup holder.
Thanks for the video Vince. Just saved me $100. Wouldn’t waste my money on this just bc it locks on to my tool box. Appreciate you doing this bc I was looking at getting one.
Thanks Vince! I just bought my first Milwaukee combo set (not at full price!) and thought of adding this to my set. Luckily, I watched this video first. I live in Arizona where it’s currently 115 degrees, no joke, and that ice wouldn’t last I hours with a leaking lid. Awesome video as always.
It looks like it could be nice and I like the tray in top to keep a sandwich or something else getting crushed but I would hardly call that ice retention at 30 hours. Too many manufacturers not just Milwaukee embellish the capabilities of their products way too much. I use an igloo round cooler that actually retains usable ice through the next day even when left in my van overnight and when the lid is locked in place it doesn't leak if you tip it over. Hopefully you can do a longer term use review after having it for a few weeks and let us know how it holds up and compares to your existing cooler. The price on this seems pretty steep for what seems like a subpar cooler that can latch onto packout boxes. As always great video.
I just did the same leakage test with water on its side. I shook the heck out of it no water leaked. I'm thinking it was just the one you got. I love this cooler and has been a great purchase.
This is the type of thing that I think is really only worth it if you need/can make good use of the packout functionality. If you've got some packout mounts in the bed of your truck then the leaking isnt an issue and you can keep all your stuff organized. I have trouble investing in any cooler that expensive, but at least the packout adds some functionality to it.
I don't expect that to be water tight, the gasket does its job and prevents as much water as it can to come out for average use. it drizzles out of the seams instead of being a water fall. I love that cooler I gotta pick one up for the rest of my packout stuff that I didn't even flip yet.
If that cooler was to be water tight it would have 4- 6 locks along the side of it instead of 1. That cooler is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. and great review you guys
I'm guessing They could have a thicker gasket. But it's IP rated (Ingress Protection) so it's looking at jets of water spray at the box from many angles using a special rig. The Jets of water are calibrated to the standard. And yes IP 65 means 6 for dust, 5 for water. Which is not great, not bad, but not amazing. But it's not rated for water EGRESS. or leaking out. That's just not part of how they test the boxes. So Milwaukee needs a different idea on that issue.
One thing they should have added to the cooler is detachable blue ice packs that attach and detach from the bottom side of the lid. Cold move down, blue ice is colder than water ice and last longer without the mess.
Sorry about all the comments but maybe they shouldn't make where the hinge is on either side of the cooler not at the end and put a locking clamp on both ends which would really seal the box type so when you tip it over that will have the hinge side to open up but then you would have the two clamps on either end to really seal tight the cooler
Toolbox vs. Coolbox. IMHO, they should have left the locking grommet on the cooler. Could the water droplets have been condensate? Scientific is nice, but real world tests are superior!
Been looking at grabbing one of these for my lunchbox. Once you enter the Packout circle, it’s really tough to look outside of it, given how convenient it is with other Packout gear.
Just recently bought a Milwaukee cooler, I live in Dallas Texas and this cooler will not hold ice for more than eight hours if that. Will definitely be returning it. I was really looking forward to this being a great cooler!
I think Milwaukee missed the mark. Should have done an ice less cooler on the M18 platform. That included a automobile auxiliary power cord. I have Coleman cooler that's like this that's awesome. It ends both the ice and the water spill problem all at 1 time.
i would not consider that a good ice retention...it was 98 % water....change it to 24 hours...my $30 igloo standard cooler retains ice better than that in 24 hours sitting in my van for 24 hours...its 50% ice by 7 am the next day
Great breakdown! I’m actually becoming really interested in using the PACKOUT as a way of transporting groceries, as well as storing tools lol. Where I live in NYC no one drives to the grocery store, you just have to walk and haul groceries back home. Other people use granny-style carts to deal with this, but I’ve always thought using one would be a bit emasculating. This could be a great alternative to that! The cooler would be an awesome way to transport frozen goods as it wouldn’t matter if the ice didn’t last 30 hours lol. Between it and the large toolbox base I could get a lot of groceries back home and not look like an old lady 😅
Is there little drink holder circles on the inside of the lid? Its hard to tell with the white balance. I would say it opens all the way for a little table. I will say that its concerning that it leaks that easily, since it most likely will be stacked on the job site. Moving it around either with the dolly or the original 2 wheeled base the water will leak all over during transportation.
So I just watched this and, not sure if it has been pointed out in earlier comments but the cooler lid looks to be an eating surface like a small table. Perhaps that is why it opens so far and has a circular area for a cup?
Great review, but instead of keeping the cooler in a climate controlled area, you should have placed it in a hot outside area and opened the lid like once an hour. That’s just my opinion though. Just started watching and you do seem honest and not just a fanboy to a company or afraid to say it how it is.
I tell you that much Vince. This coolant box is not for free ice inside.. Do you know this special plastics ice cartridges? The once they not leaking after they turnin into a water? I think this coolant milwaukee box is made that for. So the gasket in this box is made more for dust or just rain outside protection. Not to prevent leaking any water inside the box. Thats my point. Anyway this tool accesory is handy and looks good to me :) nice one Vince and see you on the next one! (yes i did smasht the like button and i have 7 years of luck :D )
@VCG Construction. You may have a challenge or test here Vince. On one of your next tests with a circ saw, put this Milwaukee Packout cooler in the path of all that sawdust and see how well it keeps the sawdust out. I'll see if Milwaukee comes out with a 2.0 version with a place for a lock. Your crew must not mooch your or others lunches or brewskis so no need for a lock. Just sayin. Hope you and your family stay safe and well 🙏
Maybe the lid for the cooler goes all the way down so you could prepare food on the bottom surface of the lid, sort of like a built in table top? Just a thought on how I would utilize that feature..
i am gonna wait for gen 2 to come out. they always "fix" the issues in gen 2, then in gen 3 they add more power and make it smaller and all that cool jazz!
Yes that's milwaukee in a nutshell, how things should be done imo. With one of the folding knives I thought a cover over the button should be installed and voila, gen 2 knife had a cover on the button.
Hi Vince, I've recently been introduced to Milwaukee and I love there products. I've been watching many of your video's and you give me lots of honest info. Keep up the good work mate and keep safe.
Another comment I would like to leave also is; Why not go all the way and make the packout System completely water proof? If I had to pay an extra $10 a unit for an upgraded gasket system to keep everything 100% water tight, I would pay the extra without second thought. I pay extra or Milwaukee because they always go the extra mile on most things. I'm sure we will see this feature in the near future.
A cooler shouldn't be air tight and you wouldn't want it to be. Ice has 8% less volume than water so if it was air tight and the ice melts there would be a vaciume pulled inside the box. it could take up to 24lbs of force to lift the lid on a full ice chest that melted.
All well built coolers are airtight, The vacuum is released by opening the drain cap. A cooler that is not air tight is only good for use with dry ice since it will allow the gas to escape from the cooler instead of making it explode.
Maybe they make the cooler LED fold all the way because you're going to be taking sandwiches out so you got a place to sandwich on the lead as you look for something to drink or something else to grab out of the cooler maybe you have just cold cuts and you put it on top of the cooler lid that's why it opens all the way just taking a shot at it🌞🇺🇸
Was the water cold when placed in box, if not the ice will melt faster cooling off water. Maybe a retest with a chill water. But water leaks not good, BUT if on sale I may be in.
Hmmmm.....I was really excited about getting this cooler when I heard about it. Then I saw the price and now I see it leaks. No way for what this little cooler costs should it leak like that. Kinda disappointed ☹️ But, if it goes on sale for Black Friday it’s mine LOL because it’s Milwaukee and it’s packout. Plus it does look really sleek next to the other packout box. Thanks for the informative video Vince.
Every cooler company already over-promises and under-delivers the second they print "retains ice UP TO...." on its nomenclature. Some coolers easily surpass their claims, most don't. Think about having this one out at a jobsite outdoors and it is unrealistic to ask it to keep ice 30 hours. I'd say 12 hours easily in the heat (I'm in south Texas) and probably 16 hours in cooler weather. No way this will retain ice for 30 hours in summer in an outdoor working environment. But then again, who works 30 hours per shift? That said, I have this cooler. It's solid for what its purpose is. I use it at the ranch for the day while doing work. It's serviceable to the user for that purpose.
Generally I use frozen water bottles that don't leak, then I can drink them at the end of the shift. No wetness in the cooler. If yhey release a full-size cooler, I'd probably use a milk jug filled with water and freeze it. Lasts longer than cubed ice.
Yeah yeah yeah you're going to have ice lift in it after 30 hours if you leave the cooler in an air-conditioned!!!.... Are you going to have ice in it after 30 hours if you leave it outside, in the shade, in a hot Texas or Florida summer?
very true....they should do more real world testing before putting it out there...most people who buy this will be on a job site or outside in the summer
the reason the lid flops over is because the inside has recesions to hold a drink when you open it. when the top is closed theres no recessions because of the packout slots.
Lucky it didn’t spill over your radio. Say if have lock in moving it on pack out radio then water spill will it destroy it or is the radio water proof I don’t know
The lid opens up all the way to provide a place to put your drink and possibly use as a table. You can clearly see a recessed spot to place your drink.
Hey Vince I believe what's happening is when the lid is closed for the cooler the gaskets are not fully compressing enough both the sides and the back at the hinges and I believe the only place that's making full contact and is being compressed is at the front lach
Have you ever had a problem with your Dewalt 2.0 radio did the subwoofer blow on it and then the sound keeps shutting off after a while and how do you fix that
Not to defend their spec, but were the waters pre-chilled or room temp when you put them in? That chill exchange alone could make the difference of more than a few hours of ice-retention.
It’s cool and all but the lunch bag says it’s hold ice for 24 hours and almost half the cost in fact in Utah at least home depot online the lunch box is on sale for $39.99 but it isn’t pack out maybe they should do that next
It seems like it would be easy enough to attach a packout mounting plate on the bottom for that or just put it inside one of the packout crates? You can stack on top of it if it fits flush in the crate even though it's a soft sided bag.
Hey VCG guys.. What I really want to see is a review on the Makita new XGT 40VOLT system. And the C.A.T power tools that they are coming out with... Power tools from C.A.T this is crazy amazing.
Thank you for the review. I was going to get one . Don't think i will . Maybe when they fix the kinks, I'll grab one. I hate to have concrete dust stick to my cooler and equipment due to water spillage. Especially when im a concrete contractor and have everything in back of my truck Including my LUNCH....
That is so strange how it leaks so easily, you'd think that would have been dealt with being its made for construction and its pretty tall and narrow so it could easily tip over. Its a deal breaker for me unfortunately. They just need to modify a small bar fridge so you can maybe battery power it with 2 batteries and it would take up same amount of room as both of those coolers did, just how do you get around the weight issue...
For me at least, the price of the cooler should reflect the quality and build of the unit. I am certainly not going to pay a bunch of money to have the cooler possibly leak all over my vehicle. Just a thought, I would have put a waterproof camera inside of the , possibly mounted on the inside of the unit. Then you could have taken a look at the actual ice melt as well as identified the possible leakage out of the cooler. Anyway, thanks for the videos. One last thing, I do agree that being a little bit more scientific would be a good plan moving forward with regards to testing products. Just my two cents, again thank you!
What would potentially help with the liquid retention Vin would be additional side latches maybe ? You rite, it ain't cheap, may as well work properly . 👌👍
Man I can’t stand all the click bait anymore. A little bit here and there is understandable but Jesus Christ you guys do it harder than anyone I’ve ever seen.
i agree but people will buy it because they have to have it as part of their packout system...some people will buy every packout module just to have it and say look at my packout system 😂
@@kingofthecrease30 I feel personally attacked by this comment... yes I'm gonna buy it... yes it's only because its packout. I have a traditional cooler that's a 56qt that I carry on the jobsite already
The Ammo box has the “Packout smell” and cooler does not have the weird smell inside. I like to use the cooler for snack foods and spices sometimes. I was using the big ammo box instead but the Packout smell sucked so I definitely prefer keeping food in the cooler when I want to seal it away safely from chipmunks and coworkers
Water pouring out makes this a definite "no" from me. Also super disappointed it barely held ice in a clinate controlled environment for the 30hrs. I absolutely love Milwaukee and feel like this one missed the mark. Especially at $100+ price point. I mean how's it going to do if you left it in the cab of your truck?
The cooler lid opens up the full way because you can use it for a table ... hence the cup holder indents. Also it has less space than the tool box because of the way coolers are built.
holds ice for 30 hours? that maybe in the north of the country because here in Arizona it may last 8 hrs max.
Yep here in AZ if water can get out hot air can get in. Will get 8 hours if lucky.
Wow I almost bought this cooler but Milwaukee needs to make one that doesn’t leak first.
I bought one it hasn't leaked yet
Ive had it tip over over but I've never just let it sit on its side with ice and water, may be worth the test
Mine tipped on its side and didn't leak, have had it for about six months.
Looks like the lid is a tray. Sit the cooler next to you and flip the lid over your lap. (If you have to sit on the ground to eat) the little indent looks like a cup holder.
The indent is for a tick.
Bummer. I almost bought this Friday. I still might if it goes on sale. But for that much money there are too many issues.
Thanks for the video Vince. Just saved me $100. Wouldn’t waste my money on this just bc it locks on to my tool box. Appreciate you doing this bc I was looking at getting one.

It also looks like the top of the lid accepts the batteries for storage. Did VCG Construction test that too?

Too much money for too many problems

Could the water droplets have been condensate?
Scientific is nice, but real world tests are superior!
Been looking at grabbing one of these for my lunchbox. Once you enter the Packout circle, it’s really tough to look outside of it, given how convenient it is with other Packout gear.
"Under promise and over deliver" the tale of 90s performance imports.
Thanks i was just about to buy it today i guess i will wait until they fix that problem with the leaking
Wondering, when the cooler is attached to wheeled cart, does it leak when tipped when rolling or going up and down stairs?
Is the 30 hour promise after a sacrificial bag of ice like the yeti? Meaning it has to be chilled first then loaded.
Most likely yes
The insulation is what lowers the capacity.

Can you fit a coke can standing up underneath the plastic tray insert? Thanks.
You should make a camping with milwaukee. Using milwaukee products while camping.
Cooler, packout, top-off, lights, jobsite fan etc.
You can line the insides with Celotex - PIR insulation and make your own coolbox too - just be sure to keep the insulation dry for it to work.
Great breakdown! I’m actually becoming really interested in using the PACKOUT as a way of transporting groceries, as well as storing tools lol. Excellent idea. You should give that a try.
A great test. Thank you. I was surprised that the box was leaking. I wonder if Milwaukee has solved the problem?
???
Is there little drink holder circles on the inside of the lid? Its hard to tell with the white balance. I would say it opens all the way for a little table.

One can add 3M 2228 mastic tape to the raised lip to create better sealing.

Vince, our bet is that the cooler lid opens all the way out of the way to allow you to pour in ice

the thing about these types of cooler like yeti and ozark trail. they reccomend pre cooling the box. cause your trying to cool down the inside first
Also what if any effects are there from continuous opening and closing getting beverages to the ice box keeping stuff cold

Great reviews Vince. Appreciate your comments. Milwaukee needs drawer system like Dewalt Tstak or Toughsys2
What's up brother and all the VCG gang good afternoon everyone🇺🇸👊
You had me on the ice melt calculation you really had me going there for a sec 😂😂😝
For the price you might as well buy a Yeti and get a week long ice retention. Ice ain't cheap
Ice is way cheap in my freezer. If the Yeti was packout compatible then I’d be in.
Nice test thanks Vcg 👍👍🤙🤙✌️ You keep making me want more tools 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The real test is how long outside will it keep Robert Bate's delicious meats cold.
🤣🤣👍🏻
I’m curious as to which one holds up in the compactor better.
The lid goes back further to allow you to layout lunch items or a can
It’s cool and all but the lunch bag says it’s hold ice for 24 hours and almost half the cost in fact in Utah at least home depot online the lunch box is on sale for $39.99 but it isn’t pack out maybe they should do that next
I have 3 coolers and all 3 dont leak Milwaukee must fix not sure why they would put this up for sale with that huge problem
They should make a m18 or M12 A temperature regulator that sits inside your pack out and keeps your batteries from freezing overnight.
Hello why do you not use cooler elements like we have here in Denmark
Also, they need a packout mini microwave. They would sell the hell out of a microwave
just bought one off the side of the road pulled over , guy sold it for $10, didn’t know it came with a tray but not bad for $10
Will it be Milwaukee or DeWalt that ups the game by using a Peltier cooler unit operating from a lithium battery. Ice forever!
My question is is like in 110° will that ice last 30 hours probably not I live in Arizona so
GO Vince!
Great video to dispell the myths. 👍👍👍👍
Extra space for insulation.
✌
For me at least, the price of the cooler should reflect the quality and build of the unit. I am certainly not going to pay a bunch of money to have the cooler possibly leak all over my vehicle. Just a thought, I would have put a waterproof camera inside of the , possibly mounted on the inside of the unit. Then you could have taken a look at the actual ice melt as well as identified the possible leakage out of the cooler. Anyway, thanks for the videos. One last thing, I do agree that being a little bit more scientific would be a good plan moving forward with regards to testing products. Just my two cents, again thank you!
Vince is a BEAST!!!! Great vids
What would potentially help with the liquid retention Vin would be additional side latches maybe ?
You rite, it ain't cheap, may as well work properly . 👌👍
Ok, white lid is a cooler!! And I rather under promise and over deliver!
Man I can’t stand all the click bait anymore. A little bit here and there is understandable but Jesus Christ you guys do it harder than anyone I’ve ever seen.
Roughly how many cans does the cooler hold?
not good enough for a 100$ price tag
i agree but people will buy it because they have to have it as part of their packout system...some people will buy every packout module just to have it and say look at my packout system 😂
@@kingofthecrease30 I feel personally attacked by this comment... yes I'm gonna buy it... yes it's only because its packout. I have a traditional cooler that's a 56qt that I carry on the jobsite already
@@noclass2gun342 😂😂😂 get over it dude 😂😂😂
@@kingofthecrease30 lol he just commented to prove YOUR point haha...🙄😬
@@chisel671 no he did not...he was offended at what i had to say...he said it was a personal attack on him...not really so i said get over it 😂😂
My pelican leaks too. And its the best cooler brand going
I’ve used this cooler for a year now and has been very good and hasn’t leaked at all
1:08 when you bring those good lunch items gotta make sure they’re safe
