One of my brother's favorite songs. He shared it with me before he was deployed many years ago and I've loved it ever since. He never came home, but this song helps me remember him and all the great memories we have. I can never thank TYR enough.

      something like this:
Lord Sinclair crossed the salty sea,
to Norway his course was set.
among Gudbrand's cliffs he found his grave,
      where a bloody brow awaited.
Up before the break of day,
      They'’re coming across the heath.
By Romsdal's coast he came ashore,
      declared himself an enemy,
      followed by fourteen hundred men
      all with evil intent.
Up before the break of day,
      They'’re coming across the heath.
They pillaged and burned wherever they came,
      all rights they trampled.
the frailty of age, it moved them not,
      they scorned the weeping widow.
Up before the break of day,
      They'’re coming across the heath.
The child was slain in its mother's lap, (womb/flesh)
no matter how sweetly it smiled.
but tidings of this sorrow and woe
to the heart of the nation travelled.
Up before the break of day,
      They'’re coming across the heath.
The beacon flared and the messenger ran,
from each neighbour to the next,
the sons of the dale sought not to hide
      as Lord Sinclair must avow.
Up before the break of day,
      They'’re coming across the heath.
The farmers of Våge, Lesje and Lom,
      with sharpened axes shouldered,
got together in the broad village
with the Scot, they wanted to talk.
Up before the break of day,
      They'’re coming across the heath.
      Forward, farmers! Norwegian men, Advance!
strike down, strike down and slaughter them!
then longed the Scot for home again,
      his lust for battle gone.
Up before the break of day,
      They'’re coming across the heath.
No living soul came home again,
      to tell his countrymen,
how perilous it is to visit them
      who dwell among Norway's hills.
Up before the break of day,
      They'’re coming across the heath

      @thesm1l3y 3 года назад

@@sambagger8872 I found "Indestructible" by Disturbed amazing, just through the energy it gives me. Also there are 3 songs by Chimaira that are in this order on an album "Power Trip" "Down again" and "Pure Hatred". "Power Trip" is a giant middle finger to people that bring you down, the refrain of "Down again" is "I'm down again/my life is not over" and in "Pure Hatred" it's a few particular lines "You have to pick and choose your fights/You have the come out of this alive". Those 3 songs listened in direct succession helped me a lot. And for the more melancholic but not really depressed moments I found almost anything by In Flames really fitting because many songs encapsulate the feeling of going through harsh times but coming out on the other side nevertheless. I hope you find something to carry you through whatever it is you are dealing with. Stay strong \m/

Zinklars Vise is a norwegian folk song written by Edvard Storm in 1781, but in a time when Norway was under danish rule and everyone who knew how to to write and read, had learned it in danish.
Edit: Basically a norwegian song written in danish sung with faroese pronounciation.

It's you not being capable of understandning ''older languge''. It's not very hard at all - the original text should be readable to any norwegian also nowadays. Confusing, maybe sometimes - but that is because this band is from the Faroese Islands and they try singing in a language that - to a some extent - is unbeknown to them.

    - Up before the break of day,

The soldier's away on the King's convoy,
    We must ourselves our land defend;
    Cursèd be the worthless knave,
    Who'd now his blood conserve!
    - Up before the break of day,
they’re coming across the heath. -
The farmers of Våge, Lessøe and Lom,
    with sharpened axes shouldered,
    At Bredebøjg together came,
with the Scot, they would have words.
    - Up before the break of day,
they’re coming across the heath. -
Just under the hillside lies a path,
    the people there call Kringen,
The company hastened past the place,
there in shall the enemy fall.
    - Up before the break of day,
they’re coming across the heath. -
With corpses now was Kringen strewn,
    the ravens ate their fill;
the blood of youth, that here was spilled,
    Scottish girls bewailed.
    - Up before the break of day,
they’re coming across the heath. -
Yet stands a column at that same place,
    that Norway's foes would threaten.
    Woe to any Norwegian unmoved,
each time his eyes behold it.
    - Up before the break of day,
they’re coming across the heath. -

This is an old Norwegian folk song, from the time they were already christians. Scottish mercenaries on the way to Sweden landed in Norway in 1612 becauser the sea route was blocked (Denmark and Sweden were fighting) and since an earlier mercenary band had done some pillaging and such on the way to Sweden the locals decided to kill these invaders. Most of the 320 or so Scots were killed fighting the impromptu militia, the rest eventually released.

As I guess the language debate rages on, I just add this info:
The "Sinklars Vise" was written by the Norwegian Edvard Storm in 1781. The written language in Norway at that time was more or less Danish. Tyr here sings in the original language, which is old Norwegian, NOT contemporary Fareose language.

I'm always amazed at the Faroese... fiercely proud of Føroyskt, and keeping it alive, but at the same time being chained to Danish, but in a weird way that makes it too weird for the Danes to think of as anything but weird Norwegian, and to weird for Norwegians to think of as anything but some kind of kindred but odd Danish. Let's really be honest - Gøtudanskt is probaby better called Føronorsk than anything Danish. So Faroese end up speaking two completely different languages that nobody really "gets" other than Faroese. Strange. Not many places have two native languages.

This is written danish pronounced/talked in Faroese. If you learn Norwegian you will understand what they are saying and Norwegian is considered one of the easiest languages to learn for ab person speaking english. This of course counts if you speak English, but its not your mother tongue.
Soooo its not very hard. German is regarded as harder.

Van Steel Norwegian reporting in. It's not hard at all. Both English and Norwegian are Germanic languages. The Norwegian word for "come" is "kom" and is pronounced almost exactly the same. "here" is "her" (rolling r of course) in Norwegian and is pronounced the same, except the "EE" vowel in the english variant is pronounced like the vowel in "sad". You can now say "come here" in Norwegian. Kom her!

    • @daginn896
      @daginn896 3 года назад +5

@@MDCCLXXVI1990 Belong to Denmark? It is a bit more complicated than that. The Kalmar Union was initially a union on equal terms. It was made by a Danish princess, then a queen married to the Norwegian king. It was made after the Norwegian king died and as a mean to contain the Hanseatic pressure upon the Scandinavian countries. It was intended to be ruled by their son, Olaf (heir of Norway). However, he died (and thus the complete Norwegian royal line), and Margrete became the ruler of the union. Before she died she handed the crown over to a distant relative in Germany. He settled in Denmark, closer to his home. And thus Denmark became the center of the union. In time, Norway became a "province", yet not Danes. The identity, spoken language etc. still was upheld. That is why the poem also speak of "Norway" and not "Denmark", and "Norwegians" and not "Danes".
