    Within the last 30 minutes (of me editing this video) seismic activity ceased altogether. This could either mean that:
    A) magma is at incredibly shallow depths in an aseismic zone and will erupt soon
    Or
    B) The magma run stopped after an incredibly brief duration meaning no eruption will occur.
    I want to report that while I had a different opinion an hour ago, scientific readings are now trending towards no eruption occurring. Deformation has been lower than every other of the 4 prior magma runs above the 4-5 km depth magma chamber.

      Let's just wait for another 24 hours (or at least 1 week). If the seismic activity really stopped, then this will be another november 10th event (of course smaller in size).
      Oh and, 1 hour before this seismic crisis occured, eq swarm occur at krysuvik.

    Not one earthquake in the past 45 minutes. I also noticed that in the last few days, Svartsengi uplift seems to have slowed. Would that mean the magma at the depth that was feeding the big chamber below has also slowed? I guess this run of earthquakes was because magma found chambers and ways to expand in the rift zone instead of trying to force it way up. It is odd that the earthquake swarm totally just completely stopped. If magma did just fill up cracks in the rift zone after this swarm won't the ground deformation possibly decrease in the next few days before the magma pressurizes again? This also was a good dry run for a crowded Saturday at the Blue Lagoon. I wonder how long it took all the guests to be evacuated? The last eruption started at 6am with few people at the Lagoon. I could pick your brian for an hour. You have a great channel and surely know your stuff. Thanks Gene

      Saw a drone video that said the Blue Lagoon was evacuated in 40 minutes, which seems pretty good for a bunch of untrained tourists.

      Lava can only be stopped by barriers build by real hard working people and the knowledge of science.

    You never really know for sure! It would be great if someone could invent some sort of sonar-like equipment that could track magma movements in real time! Any inventors out there want to give it a go? 😊

    Is there any chance you could do a video at some point about the frequency of eruptions in the past? Someone I know is questioning the idea there's always an average of 40-50 volcanoes erupting at any time. He wants to know how geologists know that and how you'd be able to see that in the distant past.

    • @jaemigoodings1054
      @jaemigoodings1054 5 месяцев назад

      I’m no geologist but if I had to guess , carbon dating or studying core samples would allow them to date eruptive events of the past. As far as active volcanoes , there is lots of data and video ect of active volcanoes.

    I would be surprised to see an event that resulted in absolutely no above grade lava flow. In fact, I would expect a fissure eruption to occur within the next 1-3 hours that will be less extensive in volume and in shorter duration then the previous recent eruption.

  • @MrKorton

    im wondering if by 3am to 5am GMT we will have the eruption as my fear is its going south west and this time its going to be the last goodnight for grindavik i hope im wrong but its already been shown the lava can reach grindavik so anything is possible.

  • @user-zc6hk6fd6d
    @user-zc6hk6fd6d 5 месяцев назад +2

    Given the conflicting information along with recent history, my guess is that a fissure eruption will occur within the next few hours, will prove to be as "liquid" and fast moving as the previous, and also contain less above grade lava flow then the prior eruptions. Perhaps another "under 24 hr. event"??

    Can you make a video about Satonda Island which is close to Mount Tambora... some articles say that Satonda Island is a volcanic cone that was lifted upwards during an underwater eruption millions of years ago.

      The area near Reykjavik might experience a milennia of increased activity. So there will be frequent eruptions for a long while now. Hopefully it will gradually move into the ocean and build new land.

    Why do they give the impression it has already erupted?

    • @MikeGreenwood51
      @MikeGreenwood51 5 месяцев назад +2

      Becase he didn't give that impression. Therefore you must be mis interpreting the data said. He clearly indicated the magma breakthrough was underground with the spread underground also. But it is easy to misinterpret the beginning of the video as I also got the impression he was saying their was a 'break through'. But very quickly the 'break-through' was explained in more detail which made the 'break-through' location clearly underground in the subsurface magma channels.

    I have a worrying feeling that this eruption will be much worse than the previous eruptions and will last much longer than the previous ones

    • @la7dfa
      @la7dfa 5 месяцев назад

      No it will last less than a week most likely and be most explosive in the start, as the previous one. The amount of magma stored is well known and is roughly 8 million cubic meters now.

      No, the eruption was very likely to happen, and that is why they evacuated people in the area. But it is a difficult science because of all the channels, quakes and magma pressure.
      If you have an idea to improve this, please let us know wise (?) man...
