Malay people are actually are very friendly like they would be happy to tell you a story because we like to lepak(chilling)->mostly boys/elderly) or membawang(gosip/discuss about something)-> mostly girls) usually you will found a group of guys in warung(small roadside stall) or around kampung area
If you can speak/understand bahasa malaysia very well you will have no problem communicating with them. You might even found new members
Btw terengganu is very interesting place to visit. Its famous for the clear water beach and lots of beautiful islands its a perfect place for picnic/swimming/diving/ride a boat(you will feel the fisherman vibe) also it was famous as the birt place of keropok lekor and full with historical place/museum/crystal mosque
Since you're going north I would suggest you to go visit langkawi there so much fun activity to do there 😊 you're definitely not going to regret it. Its famous place to buy chocolate as a gift because its cheaper than other places plus langkawi is famous for island nature. And its perfect place for a vacation

@abdulmananshuib2626 the issue also is cultural. Malays from villages tell others that studying English will make you 'less malay' so some people believe that crap. Dr m is still malay, Dr siti hasmah is still malay. Zaid Ibrahim is still malay. The elites continue to study English but the villagers are left far behind.

Gula kabung (palm sugar) is very similar to brown sugar. But instead of from sugar canes, they are from palm trees. Sometime we call gula kabung - gula melaka (malaccan sugar) as well

if you're in pahang as a muslim, you need to have a very careful filter of where you should eat. there are lot of chinese there and lot of shops that's not halal. even us malays will filtered certain restaurants or cafee in kuantan. but try to look for patin tempoyak if you're there, it's a fish dish with fermented durian gravy.

There is a saying in Kuantan that KL is for working and Kuantan is for raising family. So if you feel KL is more relaxed than Singapore, then Kuantan is more relaxed than KL. My mom from Perak, my dad from Pulau Pinang. They both feel more comfortable staying in Kuantan due to many reasons compared to their birthplace. I love it here too. I haven't travelled much so I can't say Kuantan is the best but I can say Kuantan has all the necessary facilities nearby so we don't need to travel far for each services. Forest, hills, seaside, riverside, lakeside all less than an hour drive depending where you stay. The convenience and easy access to nature are definitely it's strong points. The only weakness that needs improving right now is the increase in population has made parking very hard to get at shopping centres, gov offices and healthcare centres. Plus the lack of pedestrian walks around town and housing areas make it quite risky for school children and even adults to walk home or anywhere close by. Hopefully people in charge will do something about it.

Huk... I'm a kuantan people.. Well I guess not many foreigners come here. They prefer penang, kl and KK more.
Yeah here we don't really have that many skyscrapers which I'm thankful for😂. I do go back and forth from KL-Kuantan, I live near a beach so it's a bit of a bless being out of the city. More calm and less people. Not many rush. Although there's always a boost of people coming during weekend from nearby region now that's an ultimate chaos I hate. Don't go out on weekend.
That pakcik who went to Australia somewhere in the 70s-80s must've been super bright people because not many at those time can afford going overseas to study, usually those who went are either English educated (comes from well privileged family) or got scholarship from government.

What? stinky fruit? ikan patin tempoyak doesnt smell like durian. Durian has a smell sure but its a treasured fruit. Nobody in south east Asia called it the stinky fruit ever but the king of fruits. All that hype about the smell of dirty socks, turpentine , feet, onions and garlic all nonsense. I don't smell any of that. Its all in the head. Specially in the form of patin tempoyak . Its just tasty. 😅
