@@maryannappiagyei4277 yeah I’m genuinely shocked nothing from honestly nevermind made the list. Any song other than Jimmy cooks could have been made it
I LOVE these year end videos, I like predict what you will like or hate from a year and why, and the skits make it just perfect. All I'm wondering now is if Nothing More's new album made it anywhere on your best of lists....
Thank you John for the Status Audio recommendation. The Between Pro earbuds have completely ruined my other earphones for me in the best way. I was born deaf and got back some of my hearing through multiple surgeries throughout my lifetime. I currently have plastic tubes that increase my hearing but dull out sounds making them kind of tinny. I have experienced some success in enjoying music the way it is intended to be heard with bone conducting headphones, but the Between Pro is a whole different ball game. I have been going through my collection of live albums and the sound quality is just insane. Because of my hearing I experience music the best at live shows because of the vibrations along with the sound, but these days that is just too damn expensive. The triple driver set up in these gave that experience to me at home and out hiking with the clearest vocal performances, crisp guitar sound, and by far the deepest bass I have ever listened to through earphones of any kind. I have a pair channeling my vinyl collection directly into my brain through a Bluetooth transmitter and I am hearing all the instruments for probably the first time in my life.
u love u is the worse one out there. i wanted to not be rough on jax and give her a chance after hearing that annoying ass victoria's secret song being overplayed (the only song in history that makes me rather hear mariah carey's all i want for christmas is you for the 50th time). so i checked her previous song called u love u a listen and boy i have never cringed so hard in my life. that song takes annoying to a different level. that's why i'm hoping she ends up being a one hit wonder. her having another hit is like letting lil xan have another hit. their both bottom of the barrel artists.
Again, like I said before, what MGK describes as an “emo girl” is the reason why the “real emo vs. fake emo” argument is going to keep on existing. Seriously, early ‘00s emos seem more close to “real” than these people.
Also, can this guy stop f3tishizing (comment keeps getting deleted) my clothing preference in his songs? Like, I get why this weird thing for alt fashion exists, and you can like whatever you like obviously, but it does make me a little uncomfortable in certain cases if I’m being honest. People can get really creepy, and songs like Emo Girl and other tracks on Mainstream Sellout just reinforce that i*cel mindset. If my comment gets deleted this time I swear-
@@thedogfromraditude5449 seriously. It's the same thing that happened to goth women. Now the goth subreddit even has a rule against outsiders coming in and posting about the "big tiddy goth gf" meme or asking about how to find someone to have sеx with. Sad that basically nothing a woman ever does is capable of being left alone and unsexualized
I think the thing with emo is that it's both a music genre and a subculture, but the two don't have much crossover. Both are valid though imo It's just a weird thing thats par for the course with genres and subcultures that evolved from punk rock, sharing terms and identifiers
Since I graduated college 5 years ago and especially since Covid, I’ve quite honestly been super out of the loop on what’s trendy and popular in the music world….glad to see I’m not missing anything
Fans can say "Skillet didn't always used to be like this." That's fine. But this zealotry and super religious condemnation tone in the music now is what they are going for, while trying to sound current. Abandon all hope, panheads.
They’re one of those bands where I think a few of their earlier songs are okay, but I haven’t bothered to check anything more out by them. Sounds like it’s been a complete downward slide for them over the past few years.
The band has always been a few years behind in trend chasing for their *entire* career, which is kind of indicative of Christian “contemporary” music as a whole. They started out as a grunge band years after Kurt killed himself (S/T) then tried to copy industrial bands years after the nu-metal/industrial boom in like 2002 (Alien Youth) then pivoted to hard rock and released their best work (Collide), then decided to chase Nickelback’s sound by 2008 (Awake, but the warning lights were blinking on Comatose), and have been on their Imagine Dragons kick for the last few album cycles. A truly embarrassing, creatively bankrupt band. Ben Kasica and Lori Peters pulled the chute at the right times when they both quit the band, lmao
I have been a Skillet fan for many years but let’s be real, they’ve indeed been going downhill the last few years. There will never be another album as good as Comatose (their magnum opus imo), and that’s something I must painfully accept.
I've always had a soft spot for Nickelback, but I legit don't know why Those Days needs to exist. Photograph already exists, and it's just inarguably better.
Lightyears better imo!! Photograph at least felt like it was personal... You know, we joke about "Joey's head" , but at least the shit they were referencing seemed specific to them/Chad which makes it more endearing compared to the lazy nostalgia list that is "Those Days"
I feel like I'm one of the few people that really enjoys Beach House. I love how campy and tongue-in-cheek it is, it was a fun new direction for Carly to go in, at least for the one song
I felt it when you said "the year of the overbearing painfully lazy sampling", I was amazed at how much that was happening. In addition to "Super Freaky Girl" and "I'm Good", there was also a song called "Betty (Get Money)" by Yung Gravy that has a really painful sample of, I kid you not, "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley.
The first time I heard Betty on the radio I thought it was an official remix of NGGYU 💀 but yeah, I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned in this video, I think it deserves to be here
@@jaggarjellots4120 Popularity does not equal quality. If that's really the hill you want to die on, I guess you must think Baby Shark is the finest of all fine art.
@@ikeasotbarnslig5228 nah, it’s different man. you don’t understand, I’ve been following him since 2012. His life story & journey is fucking incredible. It’s insane looking where he’s at now. His music saved my life. quit following the narrative and just enjoy music man.
@@jaggarjellots4120 He said that Eminem's daughter was hot when he was 22 and she was only 16, and he dissed Corey Taylor (lead singer of Slipknot and one of the most respected names in modern rock music). Trust me, it goes a lot deeper than just the music. He's not just a poser; he's an absolute prick.
@@jaggarjellots4120 Not to mention, the entire reason he's doing pop-punk to begin with is because *literally everyone in the rap audience hated him* after his feud with Eminem (which, as I mentioned, was started by MGK calling Em's *16 year old daughter* hot). It's clear he's doing it for the money and not the art, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but it becomes a lot more cringeworthy when you realize that this is a 32-year-old man acting like an angsty teenager for no reason other than the fact that pop-punk has made a comeback in recent years. I understand that his music may mean a lot to you, but don't act like it's any deeper than it is. He really is just doing this for the money and attention.
What's sad is how many views, likes and people that actually enjoy these songs. It really, truly makes me fear for the future of music. Also, the fact that MGK won rock artist of the year only reinforces my fears. Fuck popular music. Literally makes me sick 🤦♂️
Just because you don’t like popular music doesn’t mean the future of music is at stake, there’s a lot of people that like music that you don’t like, and that’s perfectly fine, they should be allowed to enjoy it
@@halcyon14th18 nah, bad music is toxic for the human brain. Makes people more idiotic and ignorant. Ever notice how the people who like this trash say and do the dumbest shit?
I jam to the Bebe song, and Super Freaky Girl, but I don’t think they’re anything super memorable, just fun and catchy. My jaw literally dropped when you said that Leah Kate girl is 30, I was willing to give her a pass if she was like 17 or something.
Same, I googled her out of curiosity when he said “woman” because I figured she was 17 or 18, I was so shocked I actually had to pause the video for a second LMAO
Thank you, John, for yet another amazing countdown. Also, thank you for the epithet gems like “d**che-nozzle” and “unapologetic f**kface” Your final remark about *roasting skillet* is absolute gold
It came out last year. As childish as abcdefu gets, it is the reason I ended up finding the Romantic version of the song sung by Tyler Shaw. Turns out, that version was actually not really bad at all.
So sad to see Skillet at number 1, but I totally agree, their new music is just atrocious. It’s heartbreaking, because I genuinely have a lot of nostalgic for Comatose and Awake, and genuinely think those are great albums, but this new stuff is just so so bad.😢
To be honest, I've found myself gravitating more towards LEDGER in recent years. I feel Jen's solo work puts more focus on the stronger aspects of the post-Comatose Skillet, and she gets to spread her wings a bit more, so to speak. So At least Jen is still putting out some good material.
So yeah, coming from a big Skillet fan, I was looking forward to hearing 'White Horse', as their last two albums ended with a hard rock banger with an outro guitar solo. So imagine my disappointment, getting to the end, expecting another song along the lines of 'The Resistance' or 'Back to Life', and getting...... that! WTF Skillet?!! WTF?!!!
The skits were gold 😂 but honestly, this list could include hundreds of more songs, lots of great music this year but there was also an endless amount of bad songs lol
Maybe I should consider myself lucky I haven't heard of most of these songs? I also think the entirety of Viva Las Vengeance by Panic! at the Disco could fit here. Every song almost physically pained me to listen to.
No, unfortunately Jon is too busy worshipping the ground Brendon Urie walks on to give him any well-deserved (and in my opinion, long overdue) criticism. It's a real shame; he's always been so reasonable, and I was even willing to accept him giving Viva Las Vengeance a higher rating than Scaled And Icy until he made an entire video basically saying Brendon Urie is a good person who has learned from his mistakes, which is flat-out not true. Anyways, I totally agree. I guess Say It Louder, Do It To Death, and Don't Let The Light Go Out are okay, but other than that, every single song is boring at best and absolutely abysmal at worst. Sugar Soaker literally makes me feel physically sick lmao
@@ikeasotbarnslig5228 agreed with the first point - I thought that was pretty disappointing. As for the music, I genuinely did not like a single song on my first listen and I don’t think I want to go back and hear any of those songs another time 😭
@@madeleinep.828 Nah, I get it. Even the songs I thought were okay definitely have parts that make me cringe (for example, the bridge of Say It Louder made me want to jump off of a cliff because of how little it fit the rest of the song and how bad it was in general), but I guess I still think they're not overwhelmingly terrible. Then again, it could just be because the rest of the album lowered my standards so much that even a smidgen of quality was enough for me to find a song passable.
The skits are amazing, but also just the writing in general! Calling Walker Hayes a "walking talking Applebee's menu"? Absolute genius and I laughed out loud
Firstly, the ending of that skit at the beginning was golden. I was just watching SNL, specifically the "Keke Palmer/SZA" episode, on TV last night! 😂👌 Secondly, I had never heard of more than half these songs until now. I'll probably forget most of them soon!
I’m honestly not that surprised to see Meghan Trainor with a new hit since I’ve stumbled across some people younger than myself who are fans of Leave It To Beaver and I Love Lucy.
I feel bad for Willow, she's such cool artist with with powerful voice, Wait A Minute, Warm Honey, Time Machine and Meet Me At Our Spot, they all are good songs with personalit. Why is she doing bad music with MGK? Like wtf happened?
@@johnnyrock1130 kinda like how I still love a lot of Marilyn Manson's work despite his abuse allegations I kinda feel bad for listening to him whenever I do but I also want to listen to the music

@@danielpatternson6149 Imagine being 30 and writing a song called Twinkle Twinkle Little B****. The lyrics sound like they came from a 14 - year - old.
Great video again Jon! Definitely agree with all of these (expect for Unholy and Beach House which are camp) but either way you did a great job explaining and roasting these songs lol
This is the first time I found out about Twinkle Twinkle, and I wish I could forget. Literally on par with Theory of a Deadman's violation of the Cat Came Back. Honest to god, this trend of taking nursery rhymes and turning them into vulgar swearfests for the sake of TikTok needs to jump of a cliff and die. Thanks Jon. I'm scarred for life. Smh 😔
"The singer of Skillet is like King Midas, but everything he touches turns to shit instead of gold" has to be one of the best comparisons I've ever seen in a RUclips video
I didn’t know “Unholy” was a real song because I only kept hearing it on tiktok and in reels and it was always weird remixes and the same 30 second sound bite 😂
Thank you for including “Pyschofreak” on this list. While I do like the majority of Camilla Cabello’s songs and I enjoyed Familia more than some of the critics did, Psychofreak always felt out of place on this album and was a track I skipped quite often when listening to her album.
A lot of people my age or thereabouts cringe at their past emo phases. I cringe at my past Skillet fanboy phase, all the while wondering if an emo phase really would have been that bad.
I hated that new Muse album but I thought that was was best track on it by a mile. Ridiculously bad lyrics in the chorus, yeah, but it features probably the only good guitar riff on the entire album, and the drum buildup to the chorus gets me totally pumped. It’s the only point on the album where I actually kinda saw what they were going for on the whole thing.
i hadn't even heard of Camila Cabello's Psychofreak so i looked up the video and the first three top comments are all about Willow, now that's just embarrassing
i think everyone can agree no one likes Leah Kate half of tiktok was bullying her for the song 😭 then when she went on tour as support for chase atlantic (saw tiktoks about it, didn’t go) they ignored her set and played games on their phones and stuff. even boo’d her multiple times in different states. lmaooo it was really bad.
What is it with Elton John featuring on younger artists’ tracks that sample his music (his best songs at that)? Is next year gonna be a feature with Olivia Rodrigo sampling “Levon”?
Let's hope that 2023 at least gets the charts out of this ridiculous lull it's been in for the last 12 months and we're not just relying on songs from a year or two ago that are still hanging around, songs from a kids movie, and some 80s song getting popular again
Fr. At this point, I'm just waiting for the next big thing in music to blow up and usher in an exciting new sound. I'm getting tired of the bedroom pop/80s revival we've had for the better part of a decade now.
@quentinbringthenumetalchil5125 I don't mind nostalgia as long as artists put a twist on the older sound. It does put rock/alt at a disadvantage against genres like hip hop though, which just looks forward and innovates, rarely utilizing nostalgia.
@@quentinbringthenumetalchil5125 I was referring to Kate Bush "Running Up That Hill" re-charting this year off the back of it's appearance in "Stranger Things", and the songs from Disney's "Encanto" topping the charts at the start of the year. You could tell the charts before August were getting stagnant and desperate, and having to rely on *these* songs to be our big hits when nothing new or interesting was coming out really showed the state of desperation we were in
What's funny about I'm Good is it wasn't even supposed to be released but after Bebe used a small bit of it on her TikTok people wouldn't stop asking her to release it.
I remember when ''Emo Girl'' released I hated the song and thought it was so tryhard and cringe and I thought that NOTHING could top that for the worst song this year BUT after now hearing ''Twinkle Twinkle'' by Leah Kate, I can surely say that I was wrong! ''twinkle twinkle little bitch, just another narcissist''... that line makes me cringe on other levels I didnt think was possible! like c'mon.. you couldn't think of ANYTHING else to put in that song?? you REALLY thought that those lyrics were good??
I love this video, "Machine gun kelly continues appropriating emo culture"😂, I won't forget that statement for a long time. Thank you very much for all these videos John
They play that country song at work also. We all hate it, until put my thumbs behind my belt and start doing my "cool" cowboy dance. Then, my boss says: "You're supposed to be watching the front door."
the lyrics are definitely tongue in cheek. same with "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored" (which is literally called "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored", dunno why anyone would think that was earnest). cheating songs like this are extremely common and much of the time are facetious (look at "It Wasn't Me"), and jokes about "fucking your dad" are very much part of queer online culture. kinda silly to try and burn them on that basis. Unholy's main problem is its lack of structure, but it's not that repugnant. if they built it out a bit more, it'd be the first Kim Petras song I could uncritically enjoy since Dr. Luke isn't the producer on it.
You know what John, good for you. I’ve been watching you for years and this is the first time I’ve felt you comfortable with the content you’re creating. Funnier than I thought it would 👏🏻
I liked Super Freaky Girl😅I consider it a sequel to anaconda and really catchy. Unholy is 100% a guilty pleasure cause Sam Smith annoys the crap outta me and the lyrics are a little corny PG-rated but the beat is really good and I love Kim Petras. Just wish it woulda been with someone else and with edgier lyrics.
Look, I agree with you that Unholy is a missed opportunity, but I dont think its the 8th worst song of the year. It's got a good hook and catchy chorus. It does seem to be glorifying cheating on your partner, it absolutely could be written in a way that shows the message of the song better. But look at it this way, it's well written in other ways. In my opinion it's pretty descriptive, I like the story telling aspect of it. I'd consider anything off of Her Loss by Drake to be the worse song of the year, but that's just my opinion. Anyway, this was a great video. Informative, hope you keep on making great videos like these. Have a great rest of the year. Merry Christmas.
A lot of the bad songs that hit the mainstream this year were no fun at all but I enjoyed seeing you tear them apart including some songs I can defend.
Man, I forgot what it was called already (thank god), but the B-side to "Victoria's Secret" by Jax is a horrendous interpolation of THE BARNEY "I LOVE YOU" SONG!! If anything, that's likely much worse than "Twinkle Twinkle Little Bitch," which is at least so bad, it's fucking hilarious!
My coworker played Zombified by Falling In Reverse at work and when he goes “they’re canceling, canceling, YOU!” It made me have to stop working and wince
I know all pop song are bad in 2022! And also I'm good by David Guetta is an EDM song meaning i am still listen this song even you think this song are bad.Unholy is my favourite song but this song is disappointed because it's made by 2 singers that who are from LGBT community.Super Freaky Girl also very bad at all because it's digusting! 2022 are disaster on pop song history, this is reason why i switch to listen to Underrated song or EDM Songs who were a hits!
Fun fact about 17: my anatomy teacher last year used the song and made it into a dance to help us remember certain nerves. That’s why the song gets the pass 😌
I don't think 'Those Days' by Nickelback isn't terrible for me, I personally think it's one of the better songs of 2022, but it's not in my best songs of the year, but then again, they are one of my favourite bands, and you can hate me all you want, but I still defend Nickelback for all they do. But, how in hell is Chris Brown is still going, after all he has done in the past? I think he should have been cancelled long ago. And Meghan Trainor is still releasing awful music?! No wonder new music isn't relevant anymore. And I blooming hate AJR as well and why are they making music that is diabolical, awful and completely mediocre and boring.
Yeah I agree that those days isn’t that bad. It’s very meh for me. I was kinda disappointed with the new nickelback album. I wanted them to build on the heaviness of feed the machine
@@joshthompson4821 Agreed. I think 'Get Rollin' is more middle of the road for me as a Nickelback album, because there are good songs on it, but it's nothing compared to many great albums before it and nowhere near extravagant or amazing, but I prefer 'Those Days' over 'Photograph' to be honest, but there are other Nickelback coming of age songs that are better in my opinion.
Those Days is one of the few Nickelback songs I dislike but I do think people are too harsh on it because they're an easy target, if a well-liked band such as Foo Fighters made it nobody would complain.
@@iliketrains3495 Maybe so, but I think if Those Days was a Foo Fighters song, I think they would add more of a Disco-Rock style to it, like they did on 'Making A Fire' and 'Medicine At Midnight' maybe, however, but I still like the song for what it is and I personally love it, and it's nothing that bad, I mean it resonates with me to some degree and that's why I love it if no one else does. I also think that 'Those Days' almost feels a bit like a Bon Jovi song as well, because I think Nickelback are almost trying to be like them at this point where they want to keep going, but I don't think they don't care about trying anymore and the fanbase isn't there anymore, except for their big fans like me, but that's just my opinion.
I agree that "Unholy" had wasted potential because it's that type of song where you hear it and know that it wasn't the best that these artists have done. Edit: I somehow managed to find a Sam Smith song even worse than this one. It's called "Gimme." While Sam's part itself is great, I can't say the same about the rest of it. The track itself has a generic Dance/EDM vibe and two other singers that are okay at best, not to mention a chorus that's so repetitively annoying that you'll want to rip your hair out by the end of it.
I was shocked to see “Beach House” by Carly Rae Jensen in the dishonorable mentions… It’s one of my favourite songs of 2022 😅 What did you not like about it?
As for songs I'm hoping to see on your Best Songs list: Something by Beach House, either Once Twice Melody or Pink Funeral (maybe some other song off that album) Something by Wet Leg, maybe Chaise Longue or something else. Something by Weyes Blood, either It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody or Grapevine Something by Florence + The Machine, maybe Daffodil, My Love, or Morning Elvis Something by Jack White, maybe Taking Me Back The Flood by Burden Of The Sky (I HIGHLY doubt this will make it, since I don't think anyone's heard of this group, but this song's pretty awesome in my eyes) Something by Turnstile (a band I haven't exactly listened to, and I missed their show in New Orleans due to it being sold out, but I wouldn't be shocked if they make it due to how hyped you were that they got Grammy nominations this year) Kaisarion by GHOST (my favorite song off that album) Looking forward to that list!
Chaise Longue deserves to be in the worst. Not trying to be funny but Beach House was an honourable mention here and that song is practically You Oughta Know compared to Chaise Longue.
Fuck About It is my worst of the year As somebody who actually loved Self Sabotage and Funeral Grey, to then see the boys put out their worst song ever imo was disheartening
Very well done video! And yeah, in regards to #5, it's far from the first time that A.J.R. have used...genuinely suspicious lyrics, if you ask me. (I mean they made a full song talking about "feeling like Woody Allen")
I heard an interview where Jack Met said “we really love Woody Allen’s movies so we wrote a song about it” and I’m here thinking “really dude? You’re either lying or really stupid.”
I actually dont mind Those Days a lot, it’s an alright/mid song from Nickelback and their Get Rollin album was pretty decent/solid imo. Even though I actually enjoyed Mainstream Sellout (shoot me) even I can agree Emo Girl is hands down the worst song on that album 😂 And yeah, I’m good (blue) is just lazy and dime a dozen as hell. David Guetta is just past his prime at this point so
How many goddamn songs are there that have "PSYCHO" in the title? "psychofreak" by Camila Cabello. "Psycho" by Aitch and Anne-Marie. "Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads. "Psycho" by Post Malone (ft. Ty Dolla $ign). "Sweet but Psycho" by Ava Max. "Psycho" by Puddle of Mudd. Musicians seriously need to stop with the Psycho word in the title of their songs. SERIOUSLY.
There’s also Psycho by Muse which has some killer lyrics like “Your ass belongs to me now” And also Psycho by System of a Down which is actually pretty good
As a queer folk who enjoys the song Unholy, I agree about the song length/lack of bridge/glamorizing the theme of cheating. However, I think the song has a lot of nuance in context of queer culture. At least when I heard it, it reminded me of the history of 'beards' and 'down-low' men who were married to keep their sexuality a secret, and then would sneak out and hook up with other men. I feel like the song is kind of exposing this culture and reclaiming a sense of worth and desirability, saying that even the 'straight-laced, desirable heterosexual' individual can't resist the beauty of their queerness. In that way I can see the song being empowering for queer folk. But it still does glamorize cheating unfortunately, and even more it glamorizes the idea of being the 'side piece' that's worth ruining a relationship over. It kind of seems complacent in allowing queer folk to be used for desirability and kept a secret, when we deserve to have fulfilling relationships outside of physicality. Any who, I just think the song in context is fascinating!
Thoughts on your list. This is just my opinion btw so feel free to disagree 20. Haven't heard it 19. Haven't heard it. Never was a fan of Camila Cabello. Always found her an Ariana Grande knockoff 18. I actually like this one and thought Get Rollin was solid, but you do you 17. Haven't heard it. And also, can this subgenre please die off in the States because thankfully where I live in Australia this song wasn't really popular and isn't really popular as much compared to 2017-2020 16. Haven't heard it. Some could argue that they were never good to begin with, but I'd argue that their early stuff was decent before Got Your Six (I only like Wash It All Away on that album) as I defend a lot of butt rock. Also, their last good album imo was The Wrong Side of Heaven and The Righteous Side of Hell Vols 1 & 2 which is almost 10 years old. I think FFDP should either don't release music and become a touring band or just split up at this point. Plus, I agree that SOADs Bounce is better than what FFDP used in that song 15. It's meh for me but it's something that I wouldn't really listen to 14. Haven't heard it. Don't know why he still has a music career when he should've been irrelevant after 2009. A perfect example of an artist who had potential and talent but wasted it 13. Haven't heard it. Same thing above with no 17, let that subgenre die in the States 12. Haven't heard it 11. Agreed. Yeah, this version of Eiffel 65's Blue (Da Ba Dee) is worse than the original. And as a sucker for a lot of late 90s early 00s music (Such an overhated era of music imo), I dislike the original version as well 10. Agreed. Why did we as a society allow Meghan Trainor to come back in 2022. I thought we left her back in 2016 where she belongs 9. Haven't heard it 8. Agreed. Sucks that this song wasted potential as this would make Kim Petras more popular and would have introduced Hyperpop to the mainstream which unfortunately will end up likely milked and commercialized. If you want good Hyperpop btw, listen to SOPHIE (R.I.P), 100 gecs and Charli XCX's How I'm Feeling Now 7. Haven't heard it 6. Haven't heard it 5. Haven't heard it. Plus, this song rips off Demi Lovato's Skin of My Teeth 4. Agreed. Plus, this song came out when he got exposed for making comments about Kendall Jenner and I would even find the music video or lyrics to be disgusting (There was also a music video that was disgusting looking back now which was released in 2006 but that is another story that doesn't have to be said) and also WILLOW wasted her talent on that song. To me MGK, Jxdn, LilHuddy (Now Huddy), Sueco etc remind me of people who bullied others in the mid 00s for liking Emo music only to dress up and make this stuff now because it is trendy and nostalgia as an excuse. And as a Gen Z, I even feel sorry for those Millennials who got bullied by them and are still traumatized by it 3. Haven't heard it. I also first heard her through Stand Atlantic's pity party which I find just meh and too overproduced along with the whole album and a huge waste of potential for the band 2. Haven't heard it although I have heard of Leah Kate who did 10 Things, I hate About you which is utter trash (Do yourself a favor and watch the film instead plus R.I.P to Heath Ledger), Leah is just a dollar store Avril Lavigne and although Avril's first 2 albums were good and got me into Metal and is an influential musician, she kind of was a dollar store Alanis Morissette. Difference is Avril had some timeless songs and worked her ass off in the underground despite being corporate while Leah Kate will be forgotten Dishonorable mentions 1. Haven't heard it 2. Haven't heard it 3. Haven't heard it 4. I actually think Beach House is decent but to each their own 5. Haven't heard it. Hope Waterpark's new album is good as a person who is getting into them 6. Agreed. While I feel she is way too overhated, it is a disappointing comeback for Britney coming from a fan of her music and a waste of talent for both her and Elton John 7. Haven't heard it 8. Haven't heard it 9. Haven't heard it 10. Haven't heard it 11. Surprisingly I actually like this song and I don't find it harmless compared to the rest of the list as Top Gun: Maverick was kind of my 2'nd favourite film of this year with The Batman being 1'st 12. Haven't heard it 1. Haven't heard it but to me it sucks because this is the same band that did Whispers in The Dark put out Dominion. Plus, if you want better Christian Rock and Metal from that time period, listen to Flyleaf, 00s Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada etc.

With the twinkle song I’m absolutely sick of these weird nursery rhyme type songs
ABCDEFU and Build a Bitch still haunt me
And the fact that it is a 30 year old doing this shit really makes it the worst of its kind.
@@madeleinep.828 I don't mind the latter but other than that, I agree completely
u love u is the worse one out there. i wanted to not be rough on jax and give her a chance after hearing that annoying ass victoria's secret song being overplayed (the only song in history that makes me rather hear mariah carey's all i want for christmas is you for the 50th time). so i checked her previous song called u love u a listen and boy i have never cringed so hard in my life. that song takes annoying to a different level. that's why i'm hoping she ends up being a one hit wonder. her having another hit is like letting lil xan have another hit. their both bottom of the barrel artists.
If my comment gets deleted this time I swear-
EMO GIRL isn't even about a real person, you fkn mor0n...lol
@@thedogfromraditude5449 You sound like a full fledged smooth brain.

I think the thing with emo is that it's both a music genre and a subculture, but the two don't have much crossover. Both are valid though imo
It's just a weird thing thats par for the course with genres and subcultures that evolved from punk rock, sharing terms and identifiers
Since I graduated college 5 years ago and especially since Covid, I’ve quite honestly been super out of the loop on what’s trendy and popular in the music world….glad to see I’m not missing anything

Lol especially since that song itself is total shit and one of the worst from the 90s, and of all time
I thought the same thing.
at least blue was fun dabba dee dabba di!
Fans can say "Skillet didn't always used to be like this." That's fine. But this zealotry and super religious condemnation tone in the music now is what they are going for, while trying to sound current. Abandon all hope, panheads.
Kinda true, but at least some of their early work was a little sonically interesting, now it’s just painfully bland
They’re one of those bands where I think a few of their earlier songs are okay, but I haven’t bothered to check anything more out by them. Sounds like it’s been a complete downward slide for them over the past few years.
They had me from 2001-2013. After 2014, they sucked big time :/
The band has always been a few years behind in trend chasing for their *entire* career, which is kind of indicative of Christian “contemporary” music as a whole.
It's pretty fun and best enjoyed with the video I think. Not a guilty fave, just a fave from this year.
@CJRiceball I enjoy “Beach House” too 😁 It’s one of my favourite songs of the year 😁
idk song slaps, one of the catchiest choruses of the year
I also do!! 😂
yes, Beach House is fun.
I certainly didn’t have “Skillet makes a dubstep-infected rap rock song about the Rapture” on my 2022 bingo card
Jon, your skits seriously get funnier and funnier with each video.
Ah thank you for saying that! I’m glad they’ve kept you laughing
The one about the hoodie had me dying 😂😂
So good I sat through the advertisement!
@@artvjon The one about "Those Days" was HILARIOUS and too real!!
I'd also add jack harlow's first class to this list
That song plays on the radio at my job a lot. I noticed this trend going on on the radio.
I like Betty tho
Betty is not bad
The first time I heard Betty on the radio I thought it was an official remix of NGGYU 💀 but yeah, I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned in this video, I think it deserves to be here

Thank you, John, for yet another amazing countdown. Also, thank you for the epithet gems like “d**che-nozzle” and “unapologetic f**kface”
Your final remark about *roasting skillet* is absolute gold
I don't know if it even came out this year or not but that ABCDEFU song still should be on this list regardless
it came out last year and it was on ARTV's last year's worst songs list 👍
I think Skillet has run out of ideas and are in a creative rut.
I will forever have a soft spot for Comatose and Awake!!!!
WTF?!!!
Yes I was hoping the same thing when I first listened to White Horse I said to myself I don't like this song at all
The skits were gold 😂 but honestly, this list could include hundreds of more songs, lots of great music this year but there was also an endless amount of bad songs lol
Panic went down the rails after their second album.

I didn't even know Nickelback put out a new album this year. The one before that, Feed The Machine, actually had some good songs on it though.
Smh 😔
Twinkle twinkle little apology? - Jon

I thought the same about "Made you look"
Thank you for including “Pyschofreak” on this list. While I do like the majority of Camilla Cabello’s songs and I enjoyed Familia more than some of the critics did, Psychofreak always felt out of place on this album and was a track I skipped quite often when listening to her album.
A lot of people my age or thereabouts cringe at their past emo phases. I cringe at my past Skillet fanboy phase, all the while wondering if an emo phase really would have been that bad.

Also I’m surprised We Are Fucking Fucked didn’t make the list. But ngl that skillet is worse
Honestly I wouldn't have a problem with WAFF or Compliance making the list
I hated that new Muse album but I thought that was was best track on it by a mile. Ridiculously bad lyrics in the chorus, yeah, but it features probably the only good guitar riff on the entire album, and the drum buildup to the chorus gets me totally pumped. It’s the only point on the album where I actually kinda saw what they were going for on the whole thing.
I almost can’t believe that we’ve seen a year where The Chainsmokers didn’t make the list😂
The Chainsmokers have (somewhat) improved recently
i hadn't even heard of Camila Cabello's Psychofreak so i looked up the video and the first three top comments are all about Willow, now that's just embarrassing
It’s that time of year again! I am now prepared to laugh, cry, and fall in love with an emo girl. God help us.
I’ll be making edits after the premier.
"Unholy" got an deadly all-caps *WORST OF THE WEEK* by Mark of Spectrum Pulse.
Watching these has become a yearly tradition for me. The skits and jokes just keep getting funnier! Keep up the great work

As soon as I saw the title "Those Days" I knew it was gonna be a pathetic attempt to make another "Photograph" lol
It absolutely was…
i think everyone can agree no one likes Leah Kate half of tiktok was bullying her for the song 😭 then when she went on tour as support for chase atlantic (saw tiktoks about it, didn’t go) they ignored her set and played games on their phones and stuff. even boo’d her multiple times in different states. lmaooo it was really bad.
YIKES
What is it with Elton John featuring on younger artists’ tracks that sample his music (his best songs at that)? Is next year gonna be a feature with Olivia Rodrigo sampling “Levon”?
Olivia already performed with Billy Joel so I can definitely see an Elton-Olivia collab. How it’ll turn out is anyone’s guess.
@@Morgan_L I’m getting tired of these revivals and nostalgia - based music, as well.

Unholy sonically is decent and the message I just feel it’s tongue and cheek like music in general. But the Balenciaga line aged like milk
the lyrics are definitely tongue in cheek. same with "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored" (which is literally called "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored", dunno why anyone would think that was earnest).
cheating songs like this are extremely common and much of the time are facetious (look at "It Wasn't Me"), and jokes about "fucking your dad" are very much part of queer online culture. kinda silly to try and burn them on that basis.
Funnier than I thought it would 👏🏻
Only reason I know of the song "I'm Blue" is due to Iron Man 3 lol
Flo Rida's 2009 hit "Sugar" samples "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" in the chorus and is infinitely preferable to "I'm Good (Blue)".
The skits remind me of old Smosh or makemebad videos, you know that classic 2006-2012 era of YT 😄
i gotta give props to guetta for officially releasing the Reaper remix of I'm Good because jesus fuck it is completely insane
Thanks for letting me know that exists, Reaper has been off my radar for too long
Look, I agree with you that Unholy is a missed opportunity, but I dont think its the 8th worst song of the year.
That thing about vague nostalgia in the Nickleback song finally hit why Dreamland by Glass Animals just comes across as vapid to me
Boom, there it is
That album was... not good.
Super Freaky Girl is by far my least favorite song of this year.

Britney and Elton arent that bad, and Beach house by Carly is okay, I think Charli Puth should be on the list instead of Britney and Carly
I thought that Those Days was ok as well.
Ok, Unholy might not be the best song, but did you really wanted Coconuts to be the first hit by Kim?
unholy is flawed at best, but at least kim’s first hit wasn’t produced by dr. luke
@@whatthehellisthis
I personally think Unholy is decent, but completely agree on the Dr. Luke part
Twinkle Twinkle by Leah or I’d Rather Die by Tramp Stamps?
I’d rather die…I guess 🥲
Ngl i wasn't prepared to see Ron Killings on the DM 😂. Hopefully the old guy sticks to goofy antics in WWE
Same 🤣🤣🤣
The truth shall set you free! Lol
@@chrismarftw don't get got bai lil JIMMY
Same
The skits are hilarious especially the ex roommate 😂! Great video as per
cheers!!! glad you enjoyed the grand return lol
The only reason why I had watched Nicki's mode recent song is because Alexander Ludwig was in it.
At least one good thing came out of Emo Girl, and that's the rise of August Is Falling
I was shocked to see “Beach House” by Carly Rae Jensen in the dishonorable mentions… It’s one of my favourite songs of 2022 😅 What did you not like about it?
Everything. The lyrics are abysmal imo
I was also curious. (Even though that whole album didn't grip me the same way her previous few did)
I love CRJ to death but that song is fucking awful.
@@artvjon I’m honestly shocked that one of my favs artists decided to turn her 1 star Tinder review into a shitty pop song.
@@artvjon I mean given the content in her biggest hits, bad lyrics is nothing new to CRJ
Jon’s out here making a great video as usual, and all people are going to remember is how he put a Carly Rae Jepsen song in the dishonorable mentions
As for songs I'm hoping to see on your Best Songs list:
Something by Beach House, either Once Twice Melody or Pink Funeral (maybe some other song off that album)
Something by Wet Leg, maybe Chaise Longue or something else.
Something by Weyes Blood, either It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody or Grapevine
Something by Florence + The Machine, maybe Daffodil, My Love, or Morning Elvis
Something by Jack White, maybe Taking Me Back
The Flood by Burden Of The Sky (I HIGHLY doubt this will make it, since I don't think anyone's heard of this group, but this song's pretty awesome in my eyes)
Something by Turnstile (a band I haven't exactly listened to, and I missed their show in New Orleans due to it being sold out, but I wouldn't be shocked if they make it due to how hyped you were that they got Grammy nominations this year)
Kaisarion by GHOST (my favorite song off that album)
Looking forward to that list!
Chaise Longue deserves to be in the worst. Not trying to be funny but Beach House was an honourable mention here and that song is practically You Oughta Know compared to Chaise Longue.
Pink Funeral is definitely in the top 10 best songs released this year. As for wet leg, Chaise Longue is great but Angelica is on another level.
Something from Black Country, New Road...
@@quentinbringthenumetalchil5125 I should probably listen to them, shouldn't I?
Hoping for some Kendrick and RHCP
Fuck About It is my worst of the year
As somebody who actually loved Self Sabotage and Funeral Grey, to then see the boys put out their worst song ever imo was disheartening
@@thedogfromraditude5449 and it's not like Woody Allen's allegations were recent news either. It was public knowledge since before I was even born.
I actually dont mind Those Days a lot, it’s an alright/mid song from Nickelback and their Get Rollin album was pretty decent/solid imo.
Even though I actually enjoyed Mainstream Sellout (shoot me) even I can agree Emo Girl is hands down the worst song on that album 😂
And yeah, I’m good (blue) is just lazy and dime a dozen as hell. David Guetta is just past his prime at this point so
Nah. Sid and Nancy was the worst.
I screamed "YESSS!! YEEESSSS!!!!" when I saw White Horse's placement. Thank you for your service.
I'm a Skillet fan and I hate White Horse.
@@dylanblurton1881 same
I don’t remember this song and I listened to the album
@@lastchancereviews2 I don't mind the other songs but White Horse I skip every time it plays on Spotify.
@@dylanblurton1881 i liked dominion on the album
Iffy isn't THAT bad but it's the definition of mid. Especially when the rest of that album was some of his best music in years
How many goddamn songs are there that have "PSYCHO" in the title?
"psychofreak" by Camila Cabello.
"Psycho" by Aitch and Anne-Marie.
"Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads.
"Psycho" by Post Malone (ft. Ty Dolla $ign).
"Sweet but Psycho" by Ava Max.
"Psycho" by Puddle of Mudd.
Musicians seriously need to stop with the Psycho word in the title of their songs. SERIOUSLY.
There’s also Psycho by Muse which has some killer lyrics like “Your ass belongs to me now”
And also Psycho by System of a Down which is actually pretty good
narcissist psychopath and sociopath are thrown around so much at this point
This is just my opinion btw so feel free to disagree
20. Haven't heard it
19. Haven't heard it. Never was a fan of Camila Cabello. Always found her an Ariana Grande knockoff
18. I actually like this one and thought Get Rollin was solid, but you do you
17. Haven't heard it. And also, can this subgenre please die off in the States because thankfully where I live in Australia this song wasn't really popular and isn't really popular as much compared to 2017-2020
16. Plus, I agree that SOADs Bounce is better than what FFDP used in that song
15. It's meh for me but it's something that I wouldn't really listen to
14. Haven't heard it. Don't know why he still has a music career when he should've been irrelevant after 2009. A perfect example of an artist who had potential and talent but wasted it
13. Haven't heard it. Same thing above with no 17, let that subgenre die in the States
12. Haven't heard it
11. Agreed. Yeah, this version of Eiffel 65's Blue (Da Ba Dee) is worse than the original. And as a sucker for a lot of late 90s early 00s music (Such an overhated era of music imo), I dislike the original version as well
10. Agreed. Why did we as a society allow Meghan Trainor to come back in 2022. I thought we left her back in 2016 where she belongs
9. Haven't heard it
8. Agreed. Sucks that this song wasted potential as this would make Kim Petras more popular and would have introduced Hyperpop to the mainstream which unfortunately will end up likely milked and commercialized. If you want good Hyperpop btw, listen to SOPHIE (R.I.P), 100 gecs and Charli XCX's How I'm Feeling Now
7. Haven't heard it
6. Haven't heard it
5. Haven't heard it. Plus, this song rips off Demi Lovato's Skin of My Teeth
4. And as a Gen Z, I even feel sorry for those Millennials who got bullied by them and are still traumatized by it
3. Haven't heard it. I also first heard her through Stand Atlantic's pity party which I find just meh and too overproduced along with the whole album and a huge waste of potential for the band
2. Difference is Avril had some timeless songs and worked her ass off in the underground despite being corporate while Leah Kate will be forgotten
Dishonorable mentions
1. Haven't heard it
2. Haven't heard it
3. Haven't heard it
4. I actually think Beach House is decent but to each their own
5. Haven't heard it. Hope Waterpark's new album is good as a person who is getting into them
6. Agreed. While I feel she is way too overhated, it is a disappointing comeback for Britney coming from a fan of her music and a waste of talent for both her and Elton John
7. Haven't heard it
8. Haven't heard it
9. Haven't heard it
10. Haven't heard it
11. Surprisingly I actually like this song and I don't find it harmless compared to the rest of the list as Top Gun: Maverick was kind of my 2'nd favourite film of this year with The Batman being 1'st
12. Haven't heard it
1. Haven't heard it but to me it sucks because this is the same band that did Whispers in The Dark put out Dominion. Plus, if you want better Christian Rock and Metal from that time period, listen to Flyleaf, 00s Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada etc.
One big one missing, Never Enough - Kid Rock (or really anything from that album, but that especially)
This was great. Appreciate the fun skits and usual killer commentary! You know what, I'm ** full :'D.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Hey Jon have you heard Psycho by Anne-Marie and Aitch?
Cause goddamn, that is by far the worst song of the year for me
Haven’t heard it tbh and it sounds like I made the right call
@ARTV Do you still hate “Cutthroat” by Imagine Dragons?
I mentioned that during the Psychofreak entry, yeah it's awful
