This is one of their most beautiful recordings and I’ve loved it since I first heard it as a teenager.
Ive requested it on a few review channels. You are the only one who has played it. Thank you!
I love that whole Mick Taylor era. There's a similar song on "Goats Head Soup" called 'Winter'. I put it on a compilation of non-standard Christmas songs. I always felt when Taylor was replaced by Ron Wood all the exploration ended, no more soul searching just blues rock.
Ah, Goat's Head, such a way underrated album. Way better than Exile On Mainstreet in my opinion. Mick Taylor era is by far the best music they did with the exception of Beggars Banquet I believe. Cool.
@@robertcussins2807 No way it’s better than Exile On Main St, but there’s no way a follow up to EOMS could be better than it. But Agreed, GHS is very, very underrated and in my opinion their best sound production they got from that 5 album run from ‘68-73.
@@iheartcicada Well, we can agree to disagree. Richards, in his book, said his discovery of open G tuning and removing one of his E strings gave him all kinds of new songs. On Exile, that's really obvious by so many songs sounding much the same. At least in my thoughts. Exile is the only album (double album) that I don't have from the era because of the similarities in so many of those songs. Again, my observation and I don't have a problem with those that disagree. Everyone's tastes are their own. Thanks for being nice, so rare in these days of anonymous cyber bullying and road rage that ends up with someone dead.
Peace, my friend.
Yeah I feel the same - after Ronnie joined there were of course still the throwbacks but that spark was most certainly gone forever.
correct analysis about woody vs mick taylor.
Arguably the best song from Arguably their best album, STICKY FINGERS. An underappreciated masterpiece.
That gorgeous piano is courtesy of the late, great Nicky Hopkins. Another interesting thing about this song is that it is one of two tracks on STICKY FINGERS that don't feature Keith Richards guitar at all ("Sway" is the other). That's Mick Jagger in the right channel on acoustic guitar and the great Mick Taylor in the left channel on that beautiful, sublime electric guitar part.
Thanks so much for reacting to this masterpiece, Daniel. There's a couple of other hidden gems on STICKY FINGERS that you will probably love in "Sway" and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", both that feature the unmistakable guitar work of Mick Taylor.
Beautiful tune..... Yes, Charlie's drumming was great... RIP Charlie Watts
Ah, Daniel. You picked another winner! This song is one of my favorites from my favorite Stones album! (Fave has to be Can't You Hear Me Knocking.)
Great album, great pick!
Incredible album, I wasn't a big fan of the stones until I listened to the entirety of sticky fingers, completely changed my mind
definitely underrated ,love this song actually my favorite stones song.im 70 years old and I never tire of it.
Moonlight Mile, Wild Horses, and Angie are three of their most melodious and melancholy songs. So beautiful. Mick's voice at its most emotional and poignant.
From over forty years of loving the Stones (I'm old), this has been my favorite song by them for many years and continues to be so. It's wearily beautiful, haunting, and, ultimately, breathtaking. It has only been played by the band in concert once or twice, I believe, and only more recently, long after its '71 release, but it moves me like none of their other, many, classic songs. This is the top of the Stones mountain for me.
Just about my favorite as well. I heard it a few weeks ago, coincidentally, and it’s been floating in my mind ever since. Because I love it so much, I don’t mind it hanging around for awhile.
@@foxandscout I hear you and agree!
I was entranced by this song sing the first time I heard it as a teenager! This and "Winter" are two of my favorite Stones songs, although I like a lot of their music. This and "Winter" are just hauntingly beautiful to me.
@gibsongirl
Those are my two favorite Stones songs also. They put you in a very lovely place.
@@razorsharpe3371 So true.
Jagger homesick and putting the lie to the 'rock n roll' lifestyle. A band on the road, in strange and different hotels night after night and missing the warmth and company of their loved ones. Heartfelt.
Superb song
Listening to this song in the dark is one of life's great pleasures. It's the most beautiful song the Stones ever did, though they did a number of beautiful songs. So glad you did your usual thorough job on this one.
Love that tremolo effect on Mick’s voice trail at 5:39. I hadn’t noticed that before, had on Rocks Off from Exile On Main Street. Reminds me of talking through a fan as a kid…
Sticky Fingers as a whole is a must listen. Moonlight Mile is kind of a sleeper, I probably wouldn’t have picked it myself but I’m glad someone did. To hear it separately spotlights it’s brilliance. The Indian influence on the guitar and especially the strings is, like you said, perfect. Enjoyed this a lot.
One of my favorite Stones songs, great to see someone react to it!!
In the vast majority of Rolling Stones songs Mick Jagger would take on a persona, writing lyrics from the perspective of a fictional character. Jagger was always very cautious of revealing too much of himself in his words. Jagger also wrote the majority of his songs in collaboration with Keith Richards. Jagger and Richards often had a competitive and contentious relationship.
Jagger wrote Moonlight Mile with Mick Taylor, who had just recently joined the band. Keith Richards doesn't even play on the song. I think working with Mick Taylor allowed Jagger to feel more comfortable in opening himself up. Moonlight Mile represents Mick Jagger revealing his existential self more honestly than in any other Rolling Stones song.
With you on that, wish they had recorded 2 per year 72/73/74. Mick's voice perfect and the arrangements!!!!?? Wow💎👍
Thanks for this one, Daniel -
This evokes such memories for me;
Santa Cruz and the woman of my dreams...
Haven't heard this in years. (The opening acoustic guitar reminds me of Led Zeppelin for some reason.) Very cool number. Mahalo, Daniel, for reminding me of this one.
The Rain Song maybe?
Yes
I’ve heard this song about 10,000 times and it never fails to impact me on so many levels. It’s an incredibly rich cake. Listen a few more times and you won’t be able to shake it from your psyche.
Nice one! For me the whole album Sticky Fingers is the highpoint of the Stone discography. Sway & Can't You Hear Me Knocking are two more genius cuts from the album. The Mick Taylor era is my favourite period of theirs, specifically when Jimmy Miller was producing. Absolute rock'n' roll gold!
One of my absolute favorite stones songs, so underrated
One of those secret gems in the Stones catalogue - beloved by fans. Shine A Light from Exile is also worth a listen.
I had forgotten about this song, loved this. Thank you for bringing this great music back to us 😘❤️✌️
Wonderful Stones song!!!!!
Thanks for your reaction, this is one of my favorite Stone's song. It's a brilliant track; the piano, guitar, strings and drums are all sublime and perfectly arranged.
A very under-rated track by the Stones. Maybe their most beautiful song.
No disrespect to Ron Wood , or Brian Jones, but the Mick Taylor era is my favorite Stones era. His guitar playing was sublime.
The Stones have many great songs, many kick-ass songs, and many beautiful ones. This is a beauty and definitely a favorite of mine. I’ve seen the Stones live 3 times yet I can’t remember if they ever sang this song. Well, it was a long time ago. I’ll have to go check the set lists from those nights. 1972, 75, and 81.
Glad you find it beautiful too, Daniel. Sticky Fingers is a phenomenal album. Though Some Girls might be my favorite.
Nice job Daniel. A great choice. Beautiful beautiful. The Stones can do a nocturne. poetic. I was just re hearing it with headphones. Very interesting and subtle dynamics, I love how the orchestration quietly enters. Haunting string arrangement. The song unfolds much like ,"Stairway to Heaven". Soft at first but gaining a stronger rhythmic drive but never loosing the " Moonlight". I suddenly realize we are all living under strange strange skies. anyone catch the "Satanic Majesties Request" Sound in the final moments. Similar to "2000 Light Years from Home". Sonically
🥸 Once again, I checked your channel to see what Stones records you've already reacted to. My goodness, you haven't even scratched the surface. Since you've stated a fondness for experimental music, I highly recommend "2000 Light Years From Home" to be the next Rolling Stones song you react to.
The stones themselves are underrated I-was 14 when the stones came on the scene. Doco my life as a rolling stone has garnered new respect and interest in the stones
This has been my favorite Stones album for decades.
LOVE the Stones!! Fan since they came out in '64 when I was a little kid. Please also check out "Time Waits For No One" and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking." Thanks Daniel.
First time I watched ya. I will check out more. I’m 43/ play some bass. I’ve been a stones MAGA fan for 20 years. Moonlight mile , if I had to choose has to be my favorite songs of all time. Very unknown and underrated. Nice work bud!
My favorite stones song.
If you liked that one.try 'Winter' from Goats Head Soup or for a complete tongue in cheek laugh try 'Far Away Eyes' from ome girls. Now you know..
You could react to the entire “Sticky Fingers” album and no one would complain.
Nice to see you hit the Stones again! If you want another gem that probably will never be requested, try the song Loving Cup off of Exile on main Street. Incidentally Exile is one of my all time favorite albums Period.
Great finish by Mick on this tune .
Mick wrote this playing guitar in Keefs drop g tuning. Great album stones Abby road
Thank you for putting the music.
Sometimes I think this is the best song on the album - and then I remind myself that we're talking about "Sticky Fingers." Lots of great songs on there.
Head full of snow is cocaine.
😁👌
Daniel, this was/is my go to song when I need medicine for the spirit. (then... Honky Tonk Woman for a pick up. Been working for 45 years)
Now I'm gonna go play the whole album. Thanks Daniel.
Let It Loose is one of their best deep cuts, it’s a lot more blues rock orientated but also has elements of jazz from a killer brass section.
Peak Stones.
Fairly dig how ya dug this dude.
Timeless favorite since it first arrived.
Taylor years brought out the best in the rest.
For a similar Stones track, checkout Wild Horses....just as good if not better. Folk and blues (and a little country) in perfect symmetry.
You should react to a few songs from their masterpiece album, "Exile on Main St." by the Stones! Songs like 'Rocks Off', 'All Down the Line', and 'Stop Breaking Down' are perfect songs to listen too.
Fun fact: In 1972, the Stones were literally exiled from UK for "tax exile" and got screwed over by record label ABKCO, thus fleeing to the country of France where they recorded half of the albums music in the city of Nellcôte. The album is very diverse in some genres of music from Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, some Psychedelia music and Gospel. Although it received mixed reviews at it's time, "Exile..." would be voted at 14th of the 500 Greatest Album's of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine! It's also my favorite album of theirs so I hope you check it out!
Sticky Fingers is a masterpiece.
No Keith on this one. Mick Taylor and Jagger on guitars.
this is one of my funeral songs. lol, that sounds so ridiculous when you say it out loud.
I don’t think this was ever released as a single which may explain why it was rarely requested
Beautiful song.....one of my fav stones albums
Travelled to Seattle to see the Tattoo you tour.....unfortunately not great we were so far back, sound was terrible, and stones just going through the motions
But l can say l saw them live l guess lol
Love this dark horse and the album. I too liken it to, or pair it mentally with 'Sway'...the central chordal riffs are of a kind to me. Stunned to learn that Keith didn't play guitar on either. Also, but less so, that Mick did, on this one anyway
Recommend to check out “let it loose” from exile, another lesser known song with a powerful vocal performance by Mick, and Keith plays guitar through a leslie speaker giving it a hammond organ like sound.
She's a Rainbow is one of my top 3 Stones songs - so uncharacteristic and delightful from Her Satanic Majesty's Request. Hasn't been reacted to by more than a couple of times. Wish you would.
Yo Sister Morphine same album 🔥
Snow was an old time term for cocaine.
First time ✅ good whit the Show 👌check out the ROLLING 👅 STONES 🎥 MUSIC VIDEO 🔥HIGHWIRE🔥PECE AND LOVE TO THE WORLD 🎼🎩🎸✌
i always thought "head full of snow" meant full of coke... not sure if that is what they meant!
That's exactly what they meant
Sister Morphine has some of the best slide work out there. One of The Strolling Bones finer songs.
Agree!
Sopranos!!!
Great song, from a great album, but try "Sister Morphine" from the same album, even better/different!
Hate when people don't give stones props, wrote some great stuff. With out fuss box's, and outrageous effects. KEEF wouldn't have it mate😊
this track is all about Paul Buckmaster and the wizardly strings
too bad Mick Jagger's ego is so big that Meredith Hunter never got to hear it
I've never heard this before. Loved it. I still feel that 'Angie' is the best song they ever wrote. Hope you react to it sometime.
Stick with the Stones kid …
