- In this video, I showcase my favorite steam locomotive whistles that I have documented throughout the United States in a top 15 list styling. These are all based on my opinion, if you feel like I could've done something different, let me know.

2:01 heavenly whistle
You got that right!
bro this one's the best. 8:50
Shit got me levitating
@@thewestatlanticrailwaywhy did I got polar express flash back
Rio Grand 5-chimes are magical whistles. You can almost feel the rich history in its lonely cry.
I've always found the 3 chimes to be the best in rolling hills and plains. Nice range and not to shrill. The Hooters and how they echoed through the mountains back in the day must have been something.
Come to Santa Cruz for the Big Trees.
Those still hit ;)
Wow. I know it was my dream to get behind the throttle as a kid and to pull the whistle and hear the great shrill as we left or hit the crossing. Thanks so much
Some day both of us will reach that dream
“I have wanted to do that my whole life.”-Heroboy
Mine also was, and it's rebirthing
That scene at 8:50 gives me chills! D&RGW 5-chimes have a special place in my heart!
Sounds like the polar express
@@dyllahn7858Bc it is my guy 😂
@@ktempest9340it isn't. The tone isn't right.
@@cb_styx3392Well in the movie it was more than likely changed but I’m pretty sure that’s the closest thing if not that is the whistle
@@ABR48YTthe polar express used a Lima 5 chime whistle.
4014's whistle sure sounds good on 844. Yes, that is 4014's original whistle.
That Santa Fe 6 chime whistle on Southern Pine Lumber Company 28 has always been a favorite even back when she was still numbered 300 hopefully when she returns to service she'll be once again wearing that beautiful sounding whistle
i doubt it not with the engine it came from returning to service she most likely will be wearing that N&W hooter the rest of her career
8:50 Sounds like the Polar Express whistle
Lol, fun fact: D&SNGRR actually has a railroad crossing that is on a highway in its usual route.
@@shadowfreddy3117 huh. I wanna go there sometime
I am from the United Kingdom. I always thought our steam trains had a great whistle.
Today, realised that the USA, Absolutely leave us for standing! My favourite has to be the D& RGW 5 chime seen/heard early on the video, at around 1:30. Love it. Thank you.
Yeah, the one at 1:30 is my favorite also. I’m using it in a stop motion video called Runaway Train 2.
That one and 9:13 are my two favorites in this video
Man love those multi-tone ones, give me goossebumps. Thank you for the compilation!
edit: man, never dreamed of being a train conductor being young, but now I start wishing I was.
😊😊😊
2:00 my fav.
But they all sound great!
Thank you for changing everything for me
and me as well 🙏
Yo, just came from your twitch chat reacts video!
@@trainlover123trainsrocksame
The scene starting at 5:32 is like a living painting!
While not my favorite, anything cass has to offer is easy top five. Those high notes and the terrain make such a haunting combo.
Rode behind Cass Scenic No. 4. Always wondered what whistle that was. Sounds absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
I respect the no. 1 choice so well. Its very hard to find a whistle more powerful and majestic than a CoG 6 Chime!
The case scenic railroad is the best one of them all, and I’m not just saying that because I’m from West Virginia, the depth and tone is amazing
8:53 OMG that sounds like the polar express arriving man! Sick! Imagine that!
Just the whistle in the intro is giving me shivers in my spine
Great video. I love your choices!
@Arkansas Locomotive Works I like how you snuck in some small footage of the C&T Scenic railroad trains somewhere in this video. That’s neat. 👍🏻
Maybe you could put together one featuring the bells. They are so much overlooked but there are some really good ones out there.
That's a decent idea.
I can't possibly imagine the 4501's whistle not being first.
The Central of Georgia is a nice sounding whistle, but the 4501 is so iconic it should've been first, but that's just my opinion.
Also I think not putting the SP Daylights hancock whistle or the NKP 765s Nathan six chime on this list is very surprising. As well as 611s whistle or the N&W hooter.
Other than that, this was an interesting video. But I think there was a few iconic whistles left out.....
Well to put a note on what you mentioned about the Daylight, I've never documented it before, nor N&W 611, nor a N&W hooter. I don't wanna steal someone else's footage and put it into my own video and call it my own. I've documented 765 before, just not very happy with how I did that.
0:55 & 1:17 I always loved those great western 4-4-0 whistels
0:00 THAT READING 6 CHIME THO
481 literally sounds like the polar express 8:51
holy crap youre so right!!
478 did wore it
I think its the same type of 5 chime.
nicely put together.
A I.C. 3 chime is pretty close to heaven,a privilege to pull the chord while mounted on our 2-8-0 at Monticello.
Always partial to the lunkenheimer 6" 3 chime takes me back to Tweetsie Railroad as a kid on 190 hearing it echo through the smokies
Theres something about lunkenheimer 3 chime whistles, maybe its the shrill echo they produce through the vast forests, or that perfect pitch they produce, i cant get enough of them
OMG 4501 I wrote in the cab of that locomotive when they did cab rides I even got a piece of cold given to me by the fireman. I keep it on my shelf as the souvenir.
This is great!
2:02 the prr 3 chime sounds like a crosby
Just got into trouble with my wife .. I was saying out loud with my headphones on yeah! Baby get it and beautiful!
11:25 is my fav whistle🔥not too high pitch nor too low👌
Thanks for midnight therapy... greetings from istanbul
7:55 sounds like mallard whistle
Oh man i love trains u have made my day🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃
I think the Baldwin hooter is the best because it’s the same whistle the general had and the general is actually in display. You can see the exact locomotive that made the chase through Ringgold Georgia all those years ago.
Two most similar sounding whistles: RDG 6 chime(#15) and Flat-top 5 chime(#7)
8:51 The real polar express whistle? I swear Lima 5 and D&RGW 5 must be twins or smth, they sound EXACTLY the same as the Polar Express!
Hey #90 was on there nice
I have to agree with your number 1 pic 110%!
*pick
i love the shay’s lunkenheimer 3 chime
I think I got a full episode of spiderman as an ad, WTF?!
#5 sounds like smthn ive heard in my dreams
The iconic Horn!!!
When the first train was build in America the natives were surely terrified by it shear loudness, puffing and huffing like mad bison on fire shaking the ground while its past by.
I noticed that there’s a typo saying ‘O&RGW’ instead of ‘D&RGW’ in the chapter title at 1:30
Just pointing it out, btw.
It was automatically generated, I didn't even know this existed lol
They all sound great since they are installed on live steam engines! LOL My favorite is the Reading Passenger whistle on SRC #90.
Powerful is the only word to describe it
Reminder, never, ever, stand in the track, I understand these are heritage railroads running one train at a time but it's not a good habit to make when you watch Class 1 railroads as 80mph freight train can sneak up surprisingly fast.
1:43 what type of whistle is that? It’s beautiful.
Cass Scenic makes me proud to be a mountaineer, Montani Semper Liberi
I do love a chime whistle
That kid at the end. ;) that’s cute.
My favorite is 2102 and 425
ChainsawN&W1218, nothing like 👍 the sound of a steam whistle.
Why does D&S 476’s lunkenheimer 3 chime sound exactly like the east broad top #14 whistle
I thought of that when I heard it.
Is it normal to cry?
you and me both brother
1:36 WAIT A FREAKING SECOND, I DONT REMEMBER THAT AREA BEING PART OF THE ROUTE.
This is 32nd Street in Durango.
I’d personally have to include 611 on here somewhere.
Never seen it operate.
if ur a train fan u would love steam horns there is nothing better to hear than steam engine noise mmmmm i love it and if u are a big train fan comment the biggeat train ill give a hint its starts like big
Can I get the footage link of the whistle audio at 14:20
3:09 Everyone knows You're not allowed to stand on the track in case if a train is coming !!!
8:50
What about you do one on your favorite European/British whistles?
do british engines even have whistles other than high pitched single-note shrieks?
@@jamesm6638 yes, the LMS hooter whistle is kinda low, and there’s the A4 whistle
@@jamesm6638 To be fair, there are people who like most of the British whistles.
@@jamesm6638 Think you are getting confused with the French locos!
Sorry for such a late reply. I'd go with East German Hooters.
At 8:51, where can I find this link?
I don't understand
@@ArkansasLocomotiveWorks I don't know either.
@@Harry_Potter5972 so what are you trying to say
Sorry I was 2 years late. I’m saying the whistle reminds me sounded like polar express. Almost identical.
Wonder what Casey Jones Whipporwill sounded like back then?
Shay 4 whistle is great
2:15
113 looks like its dancing
15 for Strasburg 90?? Insulting!!!!!!!
That's just my opinion.
It's not even a decent sounding whistle
@@cb_styx3392 Yeah honestly i put it in cuz i had no other options.
My mom's voice HONEY DINNERS READY
4501. That's the one
5:55 - what is that track man? xD
The sleepers almost look invisible
The DNRGW5 chime whistle kind of sounds like the polar express
8:51 for me.
I hear alot trains where im at
11:19
Basically get the hell out of my way.
The sad train
you should remove one of the too many western narrow chimes that all sound similar, and add an N&W hooter whistle.
That's insulting.
@@ArkansasLocomotiveWorks OK, OK, but it would add some variety
@@leisureshoot added as much as i could since I don't live on the east coast
@@ArkansasLocomotiveWorks don't take it so serious... there are a million whistles, and people are going to have favorites. I made my comment with a bit of tongue in cheek.
#13 is best 1:31
There’s no way in hell you titled the DRGW 3 Chime as a pos lunkenheimer...you do understand it was developed and made in the burnham shops right?
The one on 476 is a Lunkenheimer. The one on 473 is a D&RGW 3
It's hard to stop a train😂
Indeed it is
Union Pacific's Big Boy isn't you're thing eh?
1. No it really isn't
2. Never even seen it
@@ArkansasLocomotiveWorks no reason to get defensive take it easy. im not
being rude it was a genuine question. if you want you can look it up it sounds hauntingly beautiful
#9 and #8 sound like the same whistle.....
Very different whistles.
I don’t like single chimes
Yeah like American whistles are the best
I hope these engines trigger environmentalists.
America
America
America
first
Are you sure about that
