😂😂😂 sad but true. I bought most one mine whenbive been watching for a while and boom, sudden price drop. I recently bought ox orientica x bleu for $39.99 and the feeling of winning is what I think gets us. When we buy on a good deal, we actual think we won not knowing we have lost already.
The finest purchases are those made while perusing fragrance aisles and coming across a cheap or discounted, undiscovered gem that nobody seems to be talking about.
Early on I set a full size bottle limit of 15. Once I got to 10 I only purchased decants unless it was a MUST HAVE. Now that I’m at 14 if I find a MUST HAVE I will give away a full size to stay under 15. I’ve gotten severely selective with purchases. It’s worked for me so far.
Thank you for your wonderful comment! There are so many great content creators on this platform that aim to inform and education and help their audience spend their hard-earned money on fragrances that are worth it. Some of them receive commissions or sponsorships, but they are transparent in how they received their bottle and are honest about their reviews. Of course, there will always be a small subset of creators that grow and benefit from selling products to their large audience, but this is more of a consequence of the produce, advertise, consume system that we are a part of! We cannot blame any one brand, creator, or consumer. As you mentioned, creators have a responsibility to be honest and transparent while sharing their views on a fragrance, focusing not on selling, growing, or commissions but on how they can help their audience. Brands have a responsibility to be safe, sustainable, and create inspiring products that are reasonably priced, instead of sending their products to large creators for free advertising. Consumers have a responsibility to only purchase what they can afford, appreciate and utilize meaningfully, and avoid hype. All three have an equally distributed responsibility in this cycle. As a consumer that has made expensive mistakes, a content creator that aims to help, and a perfumer that is working on developing his own fragrances, I wanted to highlight the lessons I have learned in my journey!
@av_dt6388 Hello again! I agree, many of the large fragrance RUclipsrs have built their audience on transparent and honest content. I enjoy a lot of their videos as well (School Of Scent, Aaron Terence Hughes, and others). My goal is to help my audience learn from my mistakes and my journey. I am not sure what me lying about the size/cost of my collection would achieve, especially in a video advocating for spending less money and building a more intentional collection. From this and other comments you have left on my video, it seems that I have done/said something that you disagree with. In that case, I do apologize! I am simply documenting my fragrance journey and the lessons I am learning along the way, in the hope that others find it helpful!
Yea Im an older guy who became a FragHead at the start of COVID. Prior to that I had one scent: Ralph Lauren Polo Green. Now I have a collection of a few hundred bottles. But now that the irrational exuberance phase has subsided, its time to start tightly curating my collection and selling off some of my fragrances.
No matter what it is in your life, compose yourself and just enjoy what's necessary. I have found my signature scents in every category so im good with my 8 bottles. Exploring more won't do me anything good when my collection has peaked. Just bought 1 bottle the past year.
10.000 € worth of fragrances straight out of college and after loosing all pf your belongings? Dont give us fragrance advices, give us finantial advice
I needed this video❤. I didn't know I have the addiction. Until after six bottles and still wanting more!!! And still crave more but I feel better when I see someone talking about it.
Same here. I'm about 20 bottles in. I'm looking forward to collecting more as well. But maybe I need to check out what I'm doing.😅 But dropping 250 t0 500 for one bottle I learned is reckless and unnecessary. My collection is meticulously built for my budget. This video is great introspection. Part of the addiction is the compliments and attention you get by the experience of it. It makes you feel a shared experience of knowing you smell good and having an extra confidence boost. There's nothing wrong with having an extra layer of "charm" to our hygiene is it? I certainly understand why women like to wear perfumes for themselves now. 🤔
Thanks for the advice. I am also a new collector myself. But by your wise words, I will save a lot of money. But I will also definitely enjoy what I already have. Grtz from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Great video. You’re helping me to NOT BUY AND DIG DEEP IN WHAT I HAVE. I love my small collection, and have no dents! I personally do not blame the perfume creators. I take responsibility, at the end of the day it’s me who decides to impulse buy. They definitely make it challenging, but no one is twisting my arm. I get put off sometimes too, not by them persay just the consumption angle. Anyways thanks! Stay strong lol
Sir it's simple, don't blindly buy fragrances. Always visit retail, test as many u can, select few or two. Enjoy. This is my approach. I'm happy for 5 fragrances I hv at a time. And do not regret for what you did.
@@santoshpal8835 yes. Please. Currently I'm having. Mocemsa surfer, embark Ananda, nautica Life, Beverly hills Titan, skinn Raw instinct and cr7 the red one
Decants are the best option. You might like the opening of a particular scent when tried in the store. But it might have weaker dry down or longevity issues.
Finally a guy to provide an honest and objective review regarding the overconsumption of perfumes. For my part, I have a “small” perfume collection of 10 niche perfumes. I plan to treat myself to one or two perfumes to complete my collection. Then I stop. The situation is becoming ridiculous. Well done sir. I subscribe knowing I don't understand English well. lol. I am french.
This is so true. People get the bug and feel like they need to smell like everything under the sun. People just need a good 3-5 fragrances to alternate between and be good.
Man i should have find you long before, i was exactly on your initial situation buying new perfime just based on review and hypes. Always expecting something phenomenal but would never be happy with anyone in particular. Thank you Santosh from Australia 🇦🇺
@@ivanrod2550 I literally wear a different fragrance everyday. Sometimes I wear one to work, then shower & wear a different one going out that same night. Many people are happy with this lifestyle. It just wasnt for you. But heres reality. No matter how many you get rid of. You'll never be happy with just a few. You'll be back to buying more fragrances just as soon as you're tired of smelling the same ones over & over again.
Nice content for what many of us struggle with. We get the bug and we can't stop itching. Always feel way behind. Unfortunately no amount of advice was going to stop me from taking my bumps. The advice does help though. Thanks
i think this guy is right , i have also spend thousands of dollars and i am asking myself why. i mostly work from home and do not go outside as often as pre COVID , so fragrances mostly sit or i can use them while working from home. if i would work from office all week , that is another thing , but i got too many even for that
My personal strategy rules to not fall into the rabbit hole while still enjoying the hobby: 1. Forget about building an entire collection. At most I would collect like... my favorite brand. For example, I want all the Orto Parisi line because I love them all, but I am doing this visualizing it in the long term. 2. I just select signature fragrances for a period 2-3 years. Depending on the occasion or the type of fragrance. Like for example: 1 green fragrance, 1 or 2 aquatic, the versatile office fragrances, a few summer bergamot fragrance, 2 dark style fragrance, 1 or 2 rose fragrance, 2 leather fragrances, 1 boozy fragrance, 1 gourmand fragrance, etc. 3. When I empty one of my fragrances, I do not purchase it again unless I cannot live without it as a signature fragrance. I try replacing it with something else that has a similar type. For example: I emptied Absinthe from Nasomatto and purchased Virine, both are green fragrance. 4. Build the habit of being super selective. I know it is difficult, but it can be done. You can like the smell of the fragrance but does it suit you? is the fragrance your style? Do you have similar fragrances? does this fragrance suit your habits and occasions? etc. 5. Focus on your style and use your fragrance as an accessory that suits your style. I visualize wearing this fragrance because I wear like this, use this type of clothes, I have this flow, style, etc. 6. Sample a lot either by receiving decanters or by going to perfume stores so to find your signature fragrance. For example, everytime I go the store, I know what I am going to try and spray on skin. One of the advantage I have is that they know me very well at a niche store around my area and they let me try a bunch of stuff, plus they actually do some open and private events where they invite a group of people including me to try perfumes. Everyone gets to try everything during these events and we receive a bunch of free decanters without having to buy any fragrances. 7. The purpose of getting free decanters is not only for wearing certain fragrances for free a couple of times but to have some as reference to figure out whether they go with your style or whether to visualize purchasing the respective fragrance in the future as part of your signature fragrances. 8.. Why the hell would I want to buy a $400-600 fragrance that smell ultra luxury or elegant reserved for very specific occasions like a wedding and formal events?? I have a bunch of decanters from Rojas for example, I used Rojas- midsummer dreams for a weeding once and I have not found any other occasion to use it again. Sure, you might love the smell to the point of wanting to wear it often but I seriously would not be wearing a tons of the super expensive fragrances I have tried and had as decanters from Fragance du bois, Rojas, Xeroff Tiziana Terenzi, etc, on a daily basis when they are ultra elegant, unless you are a goddam millionaire living the best life going to special events every week surrounded by daily luxury. Maybe yes, you might purchase 1-2 luxury fragrances; I do have two of the super expensive, smelling-like-a-millionaire fragrance; but come on, they are accumulating dust. 9. Plan which fragrances you are going to buy for months . Personally, what I do is to save up 1k knowing what I am going to buy and purchase them, I do this like 2 times per year. 10. discounts are tempting yes. Personally, I do have a contact who notifies me when certain fragrances that interest me will get discounted at a store. They tend to be from the same brands though 11. When you have enough fragrances, select 50 ml and 30 ml in certain occasion as purchase over a full 100 ml bottle. For example, I bought Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle in 30 ml, and discounted. That 30 ml bottle surely will last me years and it is a special occasion fragrance. Why the hell would have pull the trigger on the 100 ml? unless I want it to last all my life lol. I saved up a bunch of money with that. Of course, you also must do some level of analysis to see which bottle brings more value to you, either 50ml or 100ml; if the saving up price difference worths It or not. 12. Lastly, again, decanters. I've bought 10ml decanters of fragrances I am on the fence with on social media and I get to try them for months as semi signature fragrances.
This is exactly what happened in the women's cosmetic youtube space. There were so many products launched weekly that collectors got burnt out and overconsumed. RUclips cosmetic content was so over saturated with hidden ad content that consumers couldn't even keep up with products.
Well for the fragrance losing 30% of IT’s strength in the first 3 years I’ll call bunk. Dior homme cologne was pretty weak for me but after about 5 years it’s finally started to perform decently 😟
Thank you for your comment, my friend! Fragrance on average losing 30% of it's "strength," is a bit of an oversimplification. There are many characteristics to fragrances that can be perceived as strength. 1) Fragrance Family: For example, some people may perceive Ouds as " too strong" while others perceive florals as "too strong." 2) Concentration: Higher oil concentration means a lower alcohol concentration. This means that an extrait de parfum (usually 25-30% fragrance oil) can be perceived as stronger than an Eau De Toilette. However, companies tend to add additional ingredients to their Extraits to add the perception of strength. For example, instead of simply increasing the fragrance concentration, they add dark materials such as woods and resins to make the scent "stronger." One last point about concentration is that lower alcohol content means that the perfume evaporates slower, which means it lasts longer on your skin but projects less as there is less that is being evaporated into the air. 3) Impact: The impact of a material is basically how powerful it is on initial smell. For example, citrus is high impact as it is very immediate, sharp and apparent. Musks are low impact as they are softer. High impact materials can be perceived as "strong" in terms of impact but also weak in terms of lasting power, which is dependent on volatility. 4) Volatility: Volatility is how long a fragrance takes to evaporate. Highly volatile materials evaporate quickly and thus do not last long (citrus as an example). Low volatility means a material takes a long time to evaporate and last much longer (sandalwood or iso e super as an example). This is what it means to add fixatives: low volatility materials that elongate the tail end (base notes) of the perfume. Okay now that we know that strength can mean different qualities of a perfume, when I said fragrances lose their strength, I meant that over the years, as the perfume gets used and the bottle fills with air, or is left in sunlight, the highly volatile top notes tend to evaporate. You lose the characteristic that these top notes add to the perfume. Furthermore, some natural materials tend to change over time as well. Many fragrance companies rate their fragrances for "best use" within a certain amount of time. Of course, these perfumes are still usable and it is likely that most people many not be able to tell the difference. On the other end of the spectrum, there is a whole community around "aged" perfumes. My guess regarding your Dior Homme Cologne experience is that DHC is mostly a citrus (highly volatile) fragrance with florals and musks (low volatility) as the supporting base. Furthermore it is in a transparent bottle, and thus more susceptible to sunlight. When you first purchased it, the initial spray was a highly impact citrus, so you perceive the citrus as the fragrance as a whole. When the citrus disappears, your nose perceives the fragrances as gone and thus concludes that it is weak, even though the underlying florals and musks are still present, but harder to smell in the context of a high-impact citrus. Over the years, the citrus was lost or "weakened." This softens the impact of the top note. Now, on first spray you smell more of the florals and musks, so your nose perceives that as the fragrance. These musks and florals will last longer on your skin and thus the fragrance is perceived to last longer and have better performance, since you are smelling these outside the context of a high-impact citrus. I hope that this makes sense and is helpful! This is a great comment!
@@SunScentFragrance ya know that may be correct with the DHC and the more I think about it yea later on the musks are definitely present. I still believe in maturation but it is different for every frag.
This was a great video, the biggest problems would probably be blind buying, being "influenced "and not controlling your fomo,, I have a fairly large collection maybe about 500 bottles, alot misses and mehs, a lot of redundancy and a lot of fragrances that don't get much use and I have no regrets, my collection was built well over a decade in a time where decants and samples weren't a thing in an area where niche wasn't accessible. Some times the only way to learn is by experience.
Spot on with all your points! I went through the same process. Except I have spent way more. I need to sell a lot since I don’t want them to go bad and I want someone to enjoy the ones I don’t use. Thank you for your video!
Thank you so much for your comment and support! I am glad you found the video relatable and helpful. In Part 2 I talk about how to go about selling your collection and the system around collecting fragrances that I follow. Stay tuned :)
Wonderful video, spot on about the “experience“ bit of perfumery; a lot of us lose that perspective consuming content left and right. I however cannot get past the fact that most your possessions were lost in a move by the shipping company. I hope you could reclaim something from them. Tragic to say the least.
Searching for the next fragrance to add to your collection to make it unique is part of the allure of collecting. Cost depends on you as the consumer. Either pay $525 for a bottle of Adventus from Dillards, or pay $180 from a reputable discount site during a sale. If cost is your issue, learn to effectively decant and sell a portion of the juice you are collecting. Owning the bottles is a big part of collecting for me. I enjoy the artistic presentation as well as the fragrance. Having regrets about owning something you really enjoy is something I can’t understand. Looking back on the awesome bottles you have collected over years and years only to regret the amount you spent isn’t the same as walking into Saks and dropping $10K in one lump sum on fragrances. That truly would be regrettable. Sorry for the rant. Nice video.
I made it very clear to myself from the start, that I’m after the experience and the olfactory notes. I buy many probes, making it very easy to try a lot of things, without buying the whole bottle. Did I spend a lot? Yes about 200€ on maaaaaaany probes and little bottles of niche perfumery. But I achieved my goals without spending.
This is interesting.Your point of view and perspective can be applicable to some collecting habits maybe not all in general. Maybe not entirely but in some ways. Somebody out there would benefit from your inspection about collecting habits. In the end it's about doing whatever makes you happy without that thing being to rigid, restrictive, or cause unhealthy imbalances in other healthy areas of life. I like the way you structured fragrances by season and category. That makes the rotation seamless so the entire collection will get shine.
I fell into the sane trap when you reached a level of buying high-end niche fragrances. You always want something better, and more often than not, you forget the special fragrances you have. This is not the case for everyone, but it can happen it is a minefield
Me watching this with 7 designer fragrance and thinking to stop buying and start enjoying what i own. I started fragrance march 2023. I emptied 4 bottles now like nautica voyage and coolwater etc. even if you spray 10+ it become skin scent in 1hr. It is true youtubers trigger you to buy because of the hype and chasing the next best thing they call it the Must haves and pantydropper, compliment magnet beast mode sort of and yeah i feel the pressure of what to buy next and wanting more. To my opinion fragrance is not a necessity it's just a seasoning to your character and personality and also uplift your mood.
Money Is fake and so are fragrances. Since 1996 and even before, every Fragrance Company has hired every Perfumer and can do everything in a different bottle, like Dior Homme Cologne and Jimmy Choo Ice, oh yes Dior owns a special branded floral Field from Grasse from France, but so does Jimmy and Chanel and Armaf. The only thing that really matters is that someone is happy and living their best peaceful life without controversy. The video you make Surya is very well done and sparks many emotions from different calibers of fragrance enthusiasts. I am proud to comment on your fragrance video. The only problems are the ones you create in your head. So Peace, and Love for now.
Great Video! I had no idea fragrance purchasing was so addictive when I first got into it 18 months ago. I have no other addictions but my fragrance purchasing is a little out of control and I am reigning it in. I started buying dupes from a few very good clone houses- mostly because the name brand fragrances I paid so much for were weak in their performance. If I work at home I spray on fragrances 5x or more daily and I very much enjoy them but I also regret the money I spent, especially at the beginning because as you learn how to smell and enjoy fragrances you become ( hopefully ) more sophisticated and your tastes change and now I love many fragrances I wouldn't have enjoyed in the beginning. Unlike you I have scores of fragrances I use and enjoy not just 5 but taking your advice I do think I will go over my collection and trim it down some. My joy comes from the dupe houses, where I can try the latest fragrances in an inexpensive way. Thanks for helping people to save their money and enjoy fragrances more!
Thank you for the comment Christina! Don't be so harsh on yourself, we have all been through the same addictive journey 😂 In Part 2 I talk about how I learned to continue to enjoy fragrances without spending so much on full bottles (hint: sampling :) ) so I think you'll enjoy it when it comes out! It is a great inexpensive way to try the latest fragrances as you mentioned, I prefer sampling over buying clones personally. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and are making changes to your collection based on it!
Thank you for the support Ally! There is definitely a focus on consumption here in the U.S. But the best part is that we all have the individual choice to question our consumption patterns! If we do that, we'll find that it's entirely possible to live a happy and fulfilling life while enjoying all our hobbies (like fragrance), without sacrificing financial, mental, or environmental health! A bonus of reducing wasteful consumption is that we need less money to be happy, so we can work less and thus we will have more free time to spend on our passions :)
@@SunScentFragranceI have been going through a similar journey when it comes to shopping or over consumption in general. And yes, I do agree on the environmental cost (a single shirt or jeans) has. I am educating myself and training my brain to be more mindful of the other factors my choices are impacting. I feel disgusted now everytime I go to Zara, Mango etc or seeing videos/reels of fashion influencers that do hauls.
Don't blame America because you or others have control issues. Take responsibility for your own actions for a change. Then you'll know you've graduated from a teenager.
@@KennyP.Gemstonei’m not blaming america. I’m stating facts. I have lived in 4 countries, 3 different continents and that is something I have noticed and experienced.
Great video. Pretty much everything you described has been me the last 5 years, to a "T", albeit with a collection of around 1/3 the value. Always falling for hype reviews? Check. Never happy til I hit "Complete Purchase"? Check. Have way too many samey frags? Check. If the second part details good ways to thin the herd, I'm in. :)
I wish I watched this video a couple of months earlier.. a big %age of my perfumes are blind buys..my desire to find a perfume which last the whole day so that I can feel it has led me to believe a lot of influencer propaganda..loved this video
Thank you for your comment! I think saying we need to "control" our purchases frames our beautiful hobby in a negative light: like an out-of-control addiction. Don't be so harsh on yourself! The art of collecting fragrances is the art of collecting olfactive experiences in a bottle. Imagine we are able to store and wear the smells of a warm day at the beach, or cool windy mountains, or a green rainforest - It is almost magical. No wonder so many of us want to purchase and own these experiences. I do not think you need to control your passion at all :) However, I do believe there are more sustainable and budget-friendly ways to pursue it. You can continue to enjoy perfumes to the fullest extent while being proud of what you own and buy! I describe this system in Part 2, stay tuned!
I maxed out at 3 dozen, once I stumbled across Xerjoff Alexandria Orientale, Nasomatto Duro and Baraonda,Orto Parisi Bergamask I stopped,Fresh Fragrances ain’t my thing ,I have a few just to change up.I wouldn’t mind getting more but I know kinda what I like.Plus I can’t afford to splurge too much.Good video though!!
Thank you for this insight and well spoken video. It has been said but I needs to be said again and more often. Videos like yours are very necessary in the fragrance community.
Interesting video. Yes, I am a collector with a rather large collection. Probably larger than most in all of fragcom. But, I have been collecting for just shy of 20 years so everything wasn't overnight. lol I have always had the space and means to collect so that was never really the issue. My bottles have their own room in a very climate controlled space. I agree, sometimes we don't truly appreciate a fragrance as we should because we are continuously onto the next. And yes, social media does add some fuel to the buying fire at times. Personally, I know I need to slow down a bit because my collection is just getting massive to the point that my friends that happen to see it think I'm a bit crazy. lol I've always been a bit of a person of excess. I'm sure I know some of the reasons for this but this is definitely not the platform to discuss that. lol I have tried various ways to slow the buying down and it does work for a brief time but then I'm just back buying again in no time. Hopefully one day I'll find a good balance. I'm not holding my breath anytime soon though! lol
As a person with around 400+ fragrances and growing slowly, i can agree with pretty much everything that has been said. However being the kind of person who likes to share my fragrances with others for free, getting the larger size (100mL as the standard) is the most relevant to me FOR NOW. Anything under 60mL, i will be reluctant to share it.
A couple of terrible blind buys from discounters has made me very cognizant of what I'm purchasing now as well as wanting to smell it first, that's why I'm looking at getting samples! It's hard to get samples sometimes for these niche and designer fragrances though as well as clones man you're not going to really get samples of clones.
Thank you for your comment! I am so happy to hear about your journey and how you intentionally make purchases now. Sampling can be difficult. I cover this in more detail in part 2 but a good way to sample may include store locations (depending on your city), facebook groups, and my favorite, being a part of the fragrance community! I have many amazing friends that I exchange samples with frequently. I'm excited to hear your thoughts on Part 2 as well!
Thank you for your comment, Bear! Yes, these mistakes are quite common in the community and many of us go through a lot of lessons and changes before we realize what we really want from our collection. Preventing redundancies is a great way to simplify a collection. In my next video (Part 2) I cover how to minimize redundancies while building your system for fragrance collection! Stay tuned :)
One thing I don't like about alot of RUclipsrs they we buy fragrance hype about it one month later they declutter it and someone watch their video I buy that fragrance, I don't buy any fragrance RUclipsrs hype about i buy what i want, and also in my country you don't can't buy sample what i do i go to shop to spray it before i buy and I buy online in a discount shop and also middle eastern dupes
Does a fragrance really lose 30% of it’s scent over a 3 year span? I have a couple bottles that I’ve owned for 6-8 years and they smell the same now as when I bought it, if not better now than ever. Have you noticed your fragrances losing 30% of its scent the longer you’ve owned it?
Thank you for this excellent video. So many including myself have been down the same path. Hopefully many people in the same position see this video and learn from it.❤
I will never have more than 30. Have 25 now. I know they will turn bad even before i finnish a bottle. I don´t use a fragrance everyday and never go more than 2-3 sprays. I like watching reviews as a hobby. Some fragrances i will never buy again. The fun thing is to discover a fragrance but i don´t need 10 that almost smell the same. I don´t fall for the hyping of influencers that is sponsored and get a lot of free bottles.
When I had about 30 or 40 I felt like it was a lot. Now I have about a 160. Definitely do not need near any of that. It's definitely only if you're an enthusiast. And even then it can be a problem.
@@Alritealritealrite when i google how a long a fragrance will last before expire it says between 1-3 year as general rule. Some may last longer 5-10 but might lose some power or get stronger. Not sure what to think but i really dont understand why people get so many fragrances 100 plus....No chance that people will use them up before they turn bad
And TBH. If you have Naxos god of fire oud satin mood and adonis awakens as your ULTIMATE I AM NOT YOUR REGULAR PERFUMER in your display. You have a long journey my friend
Thank you for your comment! I am glad to hear that I have long journey ahead, because that means I have a lot of learning to look forward to :) Like I mentioned in the video fragrance for me is an experience. The beauty is in exploring, testing, and creating fragrances, which is a road with no destination. Doing for the sake of doing! I do enjoy wearing Naxos, God Of Fire, Oud Satin Mood, and Adonis Awakens. In my opinion these fragrances are beautifully crafted. However, it is not just the fragrance that is important, it is the brand these companies have built that makes these fragrances recognizable. Recognizable fragrances are the appropriate choice for a RUclips Thumbnail. If I were to display "more creative, obscure, or artisan fragrances," it would be more difficult for my fragrance friends to connect with the video. If you have any recommendations I would love to try them!
I'm older and I make six figures per year. I have about 50 bottles and that's it!!!! I refuse to buy any more until I use the ones I have. I also tried to buy only unique fragrances. I stayed away from ones that smell similar to each other and I definitely stay away from clones. I can't believe a guy in his early 20s spending that much money on fragrances.
Thank you for your comment! Yes, many designers have great smelling fragrances. It all comes down to you personally evaluating the scent-profile and quality, and asking yourself if it is worth that price to you! If this makes you lean more designer than niche, so be it! There is nothing intrinsically more luxurious or valuable about niche fragrances. They simply tend to be more creative/artistic as these companies only focus on fragrance, rather than designers which focus on an array of products. Of course, this also comes at the higher markup that niche fragrances have. It all comes down to budget and preference, while being intentional with your collection as mentioned in the video!
Thank you for your comment Xander! I agree, the spark of life comes from finding that one thing that you are obsessed with :) But in the process of pursuing my obsession I made a lot of errors that caused me more pain than happiness. Eventually I was able to focus on my obsession while minimizing wastage and turning my obsession into a passion that I was proud to explore, which is what I hope for everyone that sees this video!
Thank you for your comment! I am happy you found my video inspiring and it is never too late :) I think part 2 will be incredibly helpful for you. I talk about how I have sold most of my collection and the best practices in doing that! Stay tuned it will be out next week!
Less is often more in this hobby. 1 great expensive niche bottle makes me so much happier than 5 or 10 clones.. No matter how close they are.. Real original quality just wears different imo..

@@persephonesdad5792would you mind sharing what you’ve got in your collection?
If your ever looking for someone to give away an unwanted fragrance... here I am!
I must admit, I NEVER comment on videos. But this one….is special. So well said. New subscriber here. 🙏
Those big RUclipsrs all need to see this video 😂but ofc they don’t care , they are getting their fragrances free
And commissions!!!!
I am a fragrance enthousiast and those RUclipsrs are really transparant. But this “CERTIFIED PERFUMER” is not. And he never had a 10/20K collection.

Classy response. You have my respect 🫡
We need more people like you. You got my sub Sir.
This is a great message. Thanks for doing this video.
The best video I’ve seen in a while. Thank you.
They target the subconscious level to sell us their things...
Sir it's simple, don't blindly buy fragrances. Always visit retail, test as many u can, select few or two. Enjoy. This is my approach. I'm happy for 5 fragrances I hv at a time. And do not regret for what you did.

Not an easy option for many. Some of the more desirable boutiques are few and far between.
I subscribe knowing I don't understand English well. lol. This is so true. People get the bug and feel like they need to smell like everything under the sun. People just need a good 3-5 fragrances to alternate between and be good.

Very reason and more as to why I get decants..

I have a 77k collection & I love & wear all of my fragrances. No regrets here. Enjoy your journey.
What’s the point you’ll never even wear them
@@ivanrod2550 I literally wear a different fragrance everyday.
Thanks
My Frags make me so happy. My collection is sizable over the yrs. Just to decide SOTD is wonderful.
i think this guy is right , i have also spend thousands of dollars and i am asking myself why. i mostly work from home and do not go outside as often as pre COVID , so fragrances mostly sit or i can use them while working from home. if i would work from office all week , that is another thing , but i got too many even for that
My personal strategy rules to not fall into the rabbit hole while still enjoying the hobby:
They tend to be from the same brands though
I simply buy what I like and wear it... I never get something just to have it - at some point, it must be used
Im new subscribers here❤❤❤❤ Im a collector too and I never buy niche perfumes. Because there are other brands that sooo gorgeous and affordable
This video opened my mind.
Thank you for having shared.
1) Fragrance Family: For example, some people may perceive Ouds as " too strong" while others perceive florals as "too strong."
2) Concentration: Higher oil concentration means a lower alcohol concentration.

I need to sell a lot since I don’t want them to go bad and I want someone to enjoy the ones
I don’t use. Thank you for your video!
Thank you so much for your comment and support! I am glad you found the video relatable and helpful. In Part 2 I talk about how to go about selling your collection and the system around collecting fragrances that I follow. Stay tuned :)
Great video, thanks for the wake up call!!!
Definitely interested in part two!! This was very insightful!
Sensational summary of a common experience 👏 👏 👏
Well put I been considering my calming down on purchasing fragrances I buy around 3 a month if not more , I have around 140+
Va ji va I’m going through the exact same situation currently good advice surya bhai

Great topic and videos
Very familiar. Thanx for sharing.
I’m at a few hundred bottles and I’m just getting started. I could never get down to just 5. Chanel has 5 fragrances that are a must have.

great video bro thank you
Money Is fake and so are fragrances.
Fragrances are fake?
Great vid, thanks!!!!

America is an overconsumption, over consumerism country. I feel you Surya! 😊

I wish I watched this video a couple of months earlier.. a big %age of my perfumes are blind buys..my desire to find a perfume which last the whole day so that I can feel it has led me to believe a lot of influencer propaganda..loved this video
Thanks to share this with us . I really need to control my fragrance purchases

He is so right.
I have about 60 bottles and now I put a freeze on my purchases and using what I have.
I have 5️⃣ For summer, and 5️⃣ for winter. Is that Too much ?
Yea I sold a lot my stuff I kept mine simple I have 5 summer scents and 5 winter scents that is all I need all niche
Been wondering when will we see more of this content. Deserve more views!
Thank you so much Joey :)
Man, so many of the mistakes you named, I've committed. Something I'm really looking to prevent is redundancies.

Good suggestions to consider now that I'm past the initial irrational exuberance phase. I now need to sell and tightly curate my collection.
A lot of designers smell just as good or better than some really expensive ones, therefore it makes more sense for most people to just buy designers.
Thank You! I needed this eye opener….
Happy to help :)
Great video Surya
Thank you so much, Tammie!
Everybody’s got that thing they’re obsessive about.
Does not mean you should not control it
Thank you for your comment Xander!
Respect!!!🫡🫡🫡
it's like in that U2 song "you can never get enough of what you don't really need"
That is a great way to put it!
I prefer the rolling stone's one "you cant always get what you want". totally different messgae, but the song is better! :D
I definitely do blind buys, but if I don’t like it I return it. Normalize returning things.
KOREK!...no need to buy a full bottle!...decants will do!
I made this video bc I just wanted to show off my fragrance collection 😂😂😂
I wish I saw this before I spent 50k over 4 years on fragrances
😲
Thank you for your comment! I am happy you found my video inspiring and it is never too late :) I think part 2 will be incredibly helpful for you. I talk about how I have sold most of my collection and the best practices in doing that! Stay tuned it will be out next week!
And I'm tripping I spent $2k😅😂
Excellent post... phenomenal. I can truly relate and echo the heartfelt message conveyed. Thank you! 💯
Thank you for your kind words :) I am so happy to hear that my experiences are able to connect with other members of the community!
can't wait!
Thank you for your support! It will be out later this week :)
THANK YOU FOR THIS!! ❤
You're so welcome! Thank you for your comment!
Will check out let them eat cake sounds nice
Less is often more in this hobby. 1 great expensive niche bottle makes me so much happier than 5 or 10 clones.. No matter how close they are.. Real original quality just wears different imo..
Brilliant video!!
Thank you for your kind words, Dan!
Let’s goooo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Looking forward to the second part of this. I need to whittle down my collection and I’m not really sure where to start. Thanks for doing this video.
Thank you for your comment! I think you will really enjoy Part 2 the system I describe was really helpful when I too was unsure about how/where to start. If you feel overwhelmed by the process, feel free to reach out! There is a calendly link in the description which allows you to set up a zoom call with me (no cost and I will not try to sell you anything, I simply enjoy helping my fellow fragrance friends).
