- French President Emmanuel Macron has called a snap parliamentary election, after France's National Rally party surged to victory in the European election this weekend.
The far-right party won more than double the votes of Macron's centrist alliance, leading to the president to say: "I cannot act as if nothing had happened".
The parliamentary election will take place on 30 June and 7 July - but Macron's own position as president is not at stake.

Macron had a choice, nothing in the law demand him to dissolve l'Assemblée Nationale, and to call for snap elections.
Before the elections, Macron had asked to debate with Marine Le Pen, and she said that she would only accept the debate if he promises publicly to either dissolve l'Assemblée Nationale or to resign, if he loses.
Macron refused, and they didn't debate.
After the elections, Jordan Bardella, the President of Le Pen's Party, called for Marcon to dissolve l'Assemblée Nationale.
Macron was not obligated to do so though.
He chose to dissolve it on his own accord.
In fact no one in his party knew he would do so, and were surprised about the decisions.
A number of them have complained about it in the Media.
