  • Welcome to part 2
    Time to have a look at the hammock and give my personal thoughts and opinions. I never do reviews and shall never do so, this is just an insight to what I think of this hammock. Same goes for any kit I've used in the field over the years, but only if i think it's worthy enough to do so
    Loving the Dark forest as always.... Slowly the day is coming to an end and I decide to have a wander around camp fully appreciating all that good old mother nature has gifted us all with
    Thank you very much for joining me at camp, I hope you enjoyed watching.
    Take care and all the very best wishes to you

    Great location mate. I have the same hammock and use the bungees for the hoops because i put phone, wallet etc in the hanging pouch and it sags without them. :)

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  6 лет назад

      Jim-Bob Suzuki Hi Jim-Bob, thanks mate...I shall definately go back there and maybe do a two or three day wildcamp as there really is a very low chance of being found out in the vastness of the Forest.
      Ah I put my phone in the pouch too, mine only sags very slightly and that's when I'm not in the hammock...Of course if I'm in the hammock there's no sag at all. Great hammock isn't it, really like the new updates DD have done on them also.
      Thank you for watching
      Have a smashing weekend

    Another great video. I want one of these hammocks, iv been in one and loved it! I never thought of that about the ridge line but makes sense. Great stuff. Cheers

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Rick, Thanks my mate....Yeah I only try and have one ridgeline nowadays and I keep that above the tarp...I used to always have the line under the tarp, I've never had water run underneath even with the line under...But it's a possibility I guess...The reason I stopped having the line underneath was when trying to sleep at night the slightest breeze and the line would rub against the tarp and annoy the hell outta me lol.
      Cheers

    Exquisite video, deeply restful and uplifting, all at once. I keep saying this, but thank you so much for doing this. To me, this is what I wish for most from any video, book, painting, poetry, to come away feeling like I've seen through another person's perspective, felt something of what they were feeling, seen what they saw. Namaste, my friend

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  6 лет назад

      Hi there, wow I'm so pleased that I've made you feel this way my friend...This is what I strive to do, there really is way too much drama in this world and especially through media/ social media. It's so lovely of you to say this to me and believe me when I say just how much it means ...Its a great feeling in knowing that someone else gets something out of the vids, it was intended to be in one full video rather than 2 segments. But I've had issues with the footage and had no choice other than to put it into two parts. I was concerned it'd alter or take away from the vid in doing so. Super pleased, thank you so much my good friend...
      Hope your weekends been good.
      Take care

    This is so beautifully shot Mike, really is very good. I’ve decided to join the ranks and get the Frontline XL. I had a bit of an epiphany yesterday whilst out in the woods looking for some wild camping spots and getting a bit frustrated because Brisbane and surrounds are so hilly it makes setting up a traditional tent tricky. Then, it occurred to me, hammocks, perfect solution for hilly terrain. It opens up a lot of local areas for me. Hope you’re well mate. ATB Jason.

      Hi Jason, Aw thank you that's super kind of and believe me I appreciate your lovely words of kindness...Thank you my friend🤗🌳🌳🌳
      Ah super! You certainly won't be disappointed with the XL and Brisbane sounds perfect for a good old hammock hang🌲🌲🌲👍🏻🌲🌲🌲
      If you're looking to purchase the underblanket I'd personally give the DD one a miss, not the best quality and build in my opinion.
      Thank you very much for watching Jason always nice to hear from you

      @@BlackCountryWoodsman DD Frontline XL ordered 😁 I'm very excited to do my first ever hammock camping trip. So do you recommend buying tree huggers and whoopee slings or is what comes with the hammock sufficient? Cheers Jason.

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  5 лет назад

      Hi Jason, it's all preference really and your budget...For ease of use I'd go with the daisy chain type of straps, I use these to this day as they are great to use mate. I definately don't like the webbing that's supplied as standard by DD, but yet again it's all down to personal preference. Have fun👍🏻

      @BlackCountryWoodsman  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Von, ah yes it's a fantastic hammock that i think is overlooked by many because i think that people think the XL means its for large people, so most just go for the standard frontline.

      @@BlackCountryWoodsman I've only had one bad wildcamp, but it was still good the best day & it was all about the location. I was honestly surprised to see such beautiful woodland in the black country. I went to Coventry Uni & I don't remember seeing almost any wildlife. Beautiful Mike from start to finish. I was right there with you mate. That woodland is looking glorious and what a spot you chose. Good job you carried the hammock tapes lol. The DD XL is great and would be my next hammock purchase should I ever need to replace my standard DD Frontline. My first ever hammock was a cheap double skin off eBay and I carry it when out solo walking and hiking as it is always nice to have a break hanging between the trees in the shade. It is bombproof. I am hoping to get out in to the woods next week for a hammock hang. Have a great rest of the weekend and week ahead Mike. Paul :)

I try my best to bring across the beauty out there, a need to share has always been a thing Ive wanted to do as I know most that watch love and respect nature as I do( you included my friend) It's the least I can do for you and all the lovely people that I've got to know through RUclips. Hey fantastic! I'll check out 'visions of light' this evening....🌳🌳🌳👍🏻😊👍🏻🌳🌳🌳
      Your words are always so nice and I really appreciate them, I'm just a guy loving the time I get, to get into the woods. Every passing second is precious, so why not try and share it with others/you the good people

    it's nice man, really nice set-up indeed w/o any doubt. i just bought this same exact hammock as yours in this video because of your video. convinced me!! i never had a hammock before. i don't wanna mess around with buying some lower level ones 1st. i just bought the same one you have here straight away! just bought it tonight on-line! it's exact same but it's color is a solid OD Green (not cammo). cool video watched it again!! thx

      Hi Martina, wow awesome! You shall not be disappointed, see the stupid thing is that dd named it the XL and people think it's for large or overweight people. Not at all, its just the luxury version of the standard frontline... No sides compressing in on your shoulder because of the exellent bug net hoops. No need for extra ridgelines either. Ah nice, olive drab is a nice choice👍🏻I'm super pleased you like the look of the hammock and I had some influence. The only thing I've changed is I use daisy chain tree huggers and not the cordage that comes with the hammock..Hey shame you're not on Facebook
      Let me know how you get on please
      Take care

      mike, i actually like the cammo better, ok though green ones were on sale. hopefully DD 5x5's come in cammo. i want basha to be cammo. you can tell in your vids if the basha were a solid color it would stick-out like a sore thumb. i watched DD vids on 5x5 and it's not recommended for solo because it's so big, but i do want the big tarp anyway because i want ability of very very good coverage in a number of configs. i'm sure i will love the nice deluxe hammock and i thank you for vids on the nice gear. thx4 reply too! i may buy the GSI SS kettle next. might order it tonight... it's $23.99USD free ship.

      Hi Martina, so tell me please.... Do you camp on your own farming land or do you travel like I do? Yeah the DD multi cam is pretty good...Tbh I've actually got sick of looking at it! Hahaha...I actually tire of multi cam, I've od'd on it Lol! 🤣Yeah it's nice to switch and have good old dpm or flecktarn now and again👍🏻Nothing wrong in you using the 5x5 tbh, a square tarp has way more possible configs than a rectangle tarp does. Like you've mentioned the only issue is the weight of the 5x5 and pack down size....Ive started carrying my basha/tarps on the outside of my pack inside an old tube shaped closed cell foam mat bag... I think I show it in my latest video, I'm so forgetful lol.
      Oh yeah that's a good price on the gsi kettle
      Always a pleasure to chat to you Martina 👍🏻🌳🌳🌳🌳

      well mike, Gpa (farmer/Colonel ww2 bomber pilot) bought this farm 1946. mom, uncles, aunts, cousins and me were born and raised on this farm. all of my kids & Gkids work and live here. none of my family has ever lived anywhere else. farm workers live here too. never been anywhere to speak of and i seldom even go into town. i would never go where i can't be armed. i would never fly on an airplane, train or any public transportation. i can't take pistol i'm not going. i go into town i take pistol. prob much diff from UK. life i'm guessing. watch world thru inet. around here everybody knows everybody and there's manners. no city punks with guns around here and if any ever show-up here they'll wish they didn't because they're not playing around with city people out here. there's respect and courtesy here only. no i never go camp anywhere else other than this farm, but there's really no need to because everything is here already. i cook out on ground campfire at least 2 times a week minimum and i sleep-out about 2 times a month. i have 2 base camps. one of them is right o/s the door! plus, we feed farm workers when they're working.. so we just build fire and cook on ground. we do all of the time every week many times a month. there's always work to be done. i use packs, but load packs on horses, throw in pick-up truck, or throw in john deere 6-whl gator. hauling that stuff on my back wears me out. i'm not young anymore and i can't swing an axe too well anymore either, but if i were there i could do the stuff you are doing and i would like it. there's UK guys there named Wiltshireman (Sandy) & Hoopedbiviwildcamper (Joe) .... i like them!!! i've been watching their videos!! they went on a 100 mile 6 night wild camp trek!!! isn't that cool!!!! i couldn't make it that far, but i thought their trip was really neat!! that UK wild camping is cool! i love your channel too!! i think i've already watched all of your videos!! yours is an excellent channel - i love it!! i ordered the GSI SS kettle!!!! twyl, mike

      Hi Lee, thanks mate...The problems I've had with audio and mem have been a real pain. The video/s was originally to be in one, not part 1 and 2 as I really don't like splitting my vids up like that...It came to the point of having to divide my video into two parts or have nothing at all. So obviously I had to do what I had to.
      Glad you enjoyed watching Lee and thank you....

      Mate I use nothing...I come up in a few itchy lumps a couple of days after a wild camp where there's been loads of critters, I use nothing on my skin, just Have a Smokey fire if location is suitable or I can get away with it without being caught. Mind it's so dry it's prob best not to Have a fire, but by a stream if it's like where I was the ground was far from dry and having a campfire was safe to do so ....Have you considered a mozzy tent?

      Black Country Woodsman no I will have to use some thing I popped out a couple of weeks ago just for a quick day camp and got destroyed I react badly. Had big blisters and over a week of recovery. So need to make sure it doesn't happen again. Always have a fire where safe. But as we are stealthing we probably won't.
      Cheers mate.

    Great to see you back Mike, Thought my Royal wedding "NOT", vid put you off filming for good, ha,ha,!! Love the hammock set up, that dd xl would suit me, Oh, and just a quick one, (as a certain gent on you tube tube often says,) have you ever ruined your tarp with sparks from the fire ? I ruined my 3x3 last month, but what was most worrying was sparks flying into the woodland and possible causing a fire. Fire dowsed and used gas, Once again, great to see you back. ATB Bob,

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Bob, lolololol!!!! 🤣👍🏻The Hammock suits all, two reasons I mention it as I don't do reviews, I've had it a few years now and thought I'd say how good I feel it is and recommend it...The second reason is that I noticed that this hammock people seem to think it's just for the larger sized person...Not true in my op. I think DD slipped up in calling it the XL as folk instantly think big person. Should have named it frontline hooped hammock instead.
      Ah mate sorry to hear about your tarp! Damn time to patch it with gaffer tape. I always keep my fires as small as possible, just enough to cook on..and also have it a good eight foot away from my tarp. Very wise of you to do that Bob👍🏻🌳🌳, could have gotten out of control really quickly... You are a very wise man my friend.

    I've never slept in a hammock I tend to sleep on my face and I have a pretty bad back injury, which incidentally is one of the reasons I haven't been getting out much myself. Those wood ants are S0 industrious, it puts us humans to shame.

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  6 лет назад

      Hahaha made me LOL🤣 Yeah its not a review as such....Its just kit I've used over the years in all seasons. If I think it's been good then I'll say...May differ to others opinions and I respect that. The last thing I want to do is become a channel that just pushes gear..Not my thing that lol. The DD XL was focused on mainly because I believe it gets overlooked because of the XL in it's title. I think DD may have slipped up there in calling it XL because people see that and think it's for the bigger/ heavier person. I believe it would have been better called hooped frontline instead. I just think a lot of folk are missing out on a very comfy spacious hammock that can be ridgeline free.
      Hahahah please do I'd be interested to hear their opinions hahahah

Btw, I picked up on your last comment in the hammock in this video and bought the under-blanket too. Summer nights are chilly here. I can't WAIT till I get all of my new DD kit... tomorrow, according to Fed Ex. The weekend got in the way of my delivery. I'm taking it all to a national forest campground near home and testing it out as soon as it gets here. To be honest, it's been hard to wait. lol

    Hello, i am looking to buy the frontline Xl, i already own a 3x3 m dd tarp. I see that u use the tarp in a diagonal formation, is this the 3x3m ? And does it keep you dry in bad wheather or do i need to buy a bigger tarp aswell ?

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  2 года назад

      Hi, nice! Good choice as its a far better hammock than the standard frontline.
      I do use a 3x3 in diamond configuration, but it's always better to use a 4x4 in wetter conditions. Not that the 3x3 isn't going to keep you dry, it shall, just that you'll be grateful of the extra coverage a 4x4 shall give you. The only downside to a 4x4 is obviously the extra weight, but in all honesty the extra weight shouldn't be an issue unless you're going to trek for miles.
      A 3x3 tarp is ok, but if you're planning on getting out through the winter months I'd definitely recommend a 4x4 for extra coverage from the elements in harsh weather.
      Hope I've been of some help.
      Thanks for watching
