- A couple years ago the whole world went Trap crazy. It didn't matter what style of music you made, Trap suddenly was starting to influence your style. Trap beats are a little different than other EDM styles but even if you're new to music-making, Ryan is here to break it down step by step and have you creating basic Trap beats in minutes.
_ Trap and the 808 Drum Machine _
An integral part of Trap is of course the sound of the classic 808 Drum Machine. Its distinctive metallic hi-hat sound and the deep sub-bass of the kick has inspired beat makers since its release in the 1980s. And it has since become a vital part of the Trap-style of Hip-hop. To say the least: In Trap, the 808 is a vital component. This is why we made a vital tutorial where you will learn how to use classic 808 samples and how to create an even bigger sound by combining the 808 with other drums and samples. By the end of this video, you'll have learned the basics of layering drum sounds, wiring combinators, advanced drum rolls, and triplet accent rhythms.

@@goncalocantante You'd be surprised, 20 to 12 is like 11 to 10. Little changed visually and in the workflow, but a lot of performance tweaks and stuff has been added. Also a surprising amount of sleek new graphics if you're into that kinda thing, but I think we're both men of functionality over beauty, haha

i really like how you get not only a software but also these free lessons! totally worth the money :) just purchased Reason and started exploring it :) music making was my hobby years ago when youtube did not exist and i had to learn all by myself. i turned out to be able to write a song but mixing skills were absolute zero.

I'm not a Trap producer - actually I don't like that - but this tutorial is pretty awesome! Very clear workflow, no explanations which are hard to understand (or just for Pro's) - great job!
Best tutorial I've seen. I like how in-depth it is and added some theories as well for people who have music theory knowledge. Trying to get into trap and a lot of tutorials are just teenagers telling you do this and that instead of explaining why is it like that and how does it work.
I had seen all the other Super Neat Beat Cheat Sheets a couple of years back and amazingly I missed that one

Trap is a Dirty South Hip Hop subgenre, people gotta stop saying it belongs to EDM when it dont. Id call this mix of EDM and Trap: Electro Trap or something.

Here's a tip: with the pointer tool, control+shift+drag(PC) or command+shift+drag(Mac) lets you draw velocities to just the selected notes, keeping, for example, the hats at default velocity while doing a snare ramp.
Hopefully it's useful to someone. I had to find it in the manual ;).
Thanx for the tip. Im having another problem on bulding this beat. Kong is not responding to my velocity settings. I did everything exacly like the vídeo, but the velocitys continues to sound like it is 127 on everything. can u help me?
