I like how you explain electronic music production with punk rock examples. I hate how every fucking song on the radio has the stupid "hey" all over it. I kinda appreciate the fact that I know why that is happening now.
Marc Laflamme hahahahahhahahaha that really made me laugh cause i can relate. Keep experimenting and most importantly listen to a LOT of music. All sorts of genres but make sure you enjoy it. Melody writing will become natural.
i feel like the balance between predictability and unpredictability that we prefer is different for everyone. i feel that this is why some people enjoy catchy music and others just can't stand it.
Good observation. It's interesting to note how the mainstream appreciates repetitive predictable radio pop music while 'refined' tastes prefer the likes of classical music - which is much less predictable and more of an ever-changing and evolving flow.
Oh man. I'm sorry. I'm not using Reason but damn! Your tutorials are super great! The tutorials are applicable to any DAWs we can use. Great job, man! I am hooked.
Love these tutorials, especially now I find I am already incorporating some of these techniques and ideas into my music before I even watch the videos. Reason has so many endless possibilities under its engine it keeps me excited about creating music. Thank you for creating and posting 👌🏻
I usually don't comment but I have to say this series is one of the best I've come across. To the point, effective, and easy to follow along with. Thank you
I moved to Studio One for the expanded VST support. I was listening to some of my previous Reason recordings and I have to say - I impressed myself. Plus, Reason is so easy and intuitive. I might have to head back. Plus, these are the greatest tutorials. Nice job, Ryan!
I been dealing with reason for yrs I just started getting good 8 months ago buts its so much to learn I suggest being on it everyday fooling around that's how you get good...while watching videos like this helps increase your style...its ah different story when you got ppl in the booth.. you gotta be able to perform fast
What's great is that none of this is new to me. It's stuff I've been aware of and been doing before, but the video puts it in such a straightforward way that you just want to go and pay more attention to it and experiment more.
I´d love to see the entire list of Musical Alternative Facts.

Thanks for these tutorials! The Propellerhead team has always been committed to excellence in putting affordable creativity into the hands of all music lovers. You keep raising the bar!
Been incorporating these techniques in my music but i never saw this video. Not trying to sound like a jerk but it makes me happy to see that I seem to be doing something right! Glad that this video exists though, feel like I'm more sure about what exactly I'm doing now.
You just got yourselves a new subscriber!. Equal interesting and fun!. Love what you have done with the video/series. Amazing. So excited to try out the tips. The best, FLX
Well THANKS Felix! Having just recently crossed the 100k subscriber mark, I'm pretty happy for each new subscribe that comes in because now I have a new target: 1 MILLION Subscribers! /ryan
Excellent tutorial. Very helpful. I would like to listen to the full song we hear at 2:06, "Falling down", is the title ? Can we listen to that song somewhere?
he just showing you different ways to melodically express yourself or lay chords down in a more interesting way than the average “producer” would just trying to make a beat
Hey Ryan, great tutorial, its going to give me some help in the studio! I have a question or a request rather. In like the first 10 seconds of the video, where the opening song comes in, can you make a tutorial on how to create that lead synth? It sounds like a sawtooth but I'm not sure, it sounds super clean. If anyone else has any idea or knows how to do it as well, it would be really helpful! Thanks!
Chord progressions is one I've considered but I fear people would dislike it because I'd be telling people how great it is to fall back on tried and true progressions that have birthed the greatest melodies of our time... but that inevitably leads people grumbling about cliches. But I'm considering it, anyway. :) /ryan
I`m sure if you did one it would be a great addition to the series anyway. Thanks Ryan , I look forward to more videos . I really like the latest 808 cheat sheet by the way...keep them coming :)
I use ableton these days, but I wish I could magically have a license for Reason again. I was a huge Reason 5 fan back in the day. I just don't have the dough to spend on another daw.
i love reason, its so nice to look at and from what i can see its more than effective, but ive never used it, iys expensive for nigerians. really wish they was a sort of cheap version for students or something. lobe your tutorials by the way ryan 😊
Reason Essentials is 1/4th the price of Reason's full version but has very many of the same features. The rack and cabling power is all there. The Rack Extension instruments are available, too. And there's a cross-grade version available to the full Reason version when you're ready to move up to the full feature set. It's worth checking out if you're interested in getting into Reason in the easiest way possible. /ryan
Hiii I've been wanting to make music and I saw this and it looks amazing I am totally going to get but I think I might not know how to work it would there be tutorials in the program to tell u what is what????
Must be said though, Reason is the absolute shit tits. It's almost literally infinite in it's scope. I have wasted years just messing around with building my own instruments, crazy effect chains and all sorts of nutty professor shit. Just love it.
Great tips ... though a bit too "instant" in terms of your sudden composition choices that just so happen to sound in-scale and perfect. Might be good to avoid the doubletalk on repetition and variation by specifying *what* they apply to: repetition of overall structure, length, and rhythmic pattern; variation of expression that provides a sense of dialogue with a "call" and "answer".
Wow, so i just checked again to make sure im not making my self look stupid. Turns out that the top bar of the sequencer only shows till `Fade In` on my MacBook and i have to minimize the browser to see it. Reason 9 trolled me
For those who looking for the full version of "falling down" I think this song does not exist but this one is close :Shadow Gallery - Ghost of a chance
It's a good question but I'm not sure I could easily show that. On the one hand, I'd say "does it sound bad? then it is bad." But that certainly isn't a good answer for you. :) Another thing I could recommend if you wanted to be absolutely sure would be to figure out which notes are playing in the sample and then double check that they're all in your song's key, which you could do even with a temporary piano you create in your song and a Scales and Chords player set to your key. But even that technique relies a lot on just 'well use your well-trained ear to figure out the sample notes' and I suspect that's a bad answer for you too. So I'm not sure if I have a good simple answer for you. /ryan

Adore this series. Totally hooked!
Ba dum tsss :D
I see what you did there but it took me a minute to catchy on. #punfail /ryan
boysbeingboys me too!
Exactly
Damnit Ryan you make this stuff look TOO easy! All my hooks and melodies still resemble variations on happy birthday...
Marc Laflamme hahahahahhahahaha that really made me laugh cause i can relate. Keep experimenting and most importantly listen to a LOT of music. All sorts of genres but make sure you enjoy it. Melody writing will become natural.
Marc Laflamme ..... Hilarious..... lol.

i really REALLY love unpredictable music. not too much but a little more than normal
Oh yes, and that’s one of the things that define genre and preference
"nohhh shee didntttt" was hilarious!
That repetition with just a different last note results in about the most poppy melodies I've ever heard. Actually heard it a lot.
This is legit the only video I've seen where the musical example is something I actually really like
Love the tutorials. Hate the way songs nowadays sound the same when this stuff is so freaking powerful. People use 1% of Reason's power.
Future dropped 2 albums in 2 weeks. he must have found an algorithm for hooks 😂
😂😂😂😂
@33 33 I don't think people like @yung lil Lega think like that.
Oh man. I'm sorry. I'm not using Reason but damn! Your tutorials are super great! The tutorials are applicable to any DAWs we can use.
Great job, man! I am hooked.

fucking love these tutorials
Kauz Music same they are super helpful
Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone is probably one of the best 'Shout it out' hooks I've heard, it always goes off at festivals
Your tutorials are very well thought out and planned! I love how you use the viewer's ear to really get your point across
Been incorporating these techniques in my music but i never saw this video. Not trying to sound like a jerk but it makes me happy to see that I seem to be doing something right! Glad that this video exists though, feel like I'm more sure about what exactly I'm doing now.
I thought the trend of people shouting "hey" in every damned song had been replaced by producers vocal-chopping in every damned song?
Cool video. I always find that adding any kind of human voice element makes a track/beat catchier.
This was amazing and very helpful! I didn't know that pichting was that easy, need more of these. Thank you!
I'm always impressed by your tutorials. Crisp, compressed, and superb video editing.
I've been watching a few videos on this subject and so far this one is the most useful. Thanks.
Nice One!
Nice One!
Nice One!
Indeed lol

That scales and chords tool is super dope!

I don't even use reason, but damn, you guys are nailing the music making for dummies (like myself) game. Good Job!
This is just amazing. I love the quality of your videos! Please keep this up.
I love Reason

Superb demonstration...you are a great teacher!!
These tutorials make me so glad I bought Reason!
Another brilliant tutorial! 🤓
this is fucking gold mine of knowledge
Ryan can we have a video for catchy chord progressions and also a Neurofunk drums and bass video ? Thanks :)
Chord progressions is one I've considered but I fear people would dislike it because I'd be telling people how great it is to fall back on tried and true progressions that have birthed the greatest melodies of our time... but that inevitably leads people grumbling about cliches. This is really really good concept tutorial, thanks. hope can see more. great job!
NOFX! Im coming back to reason just for that reason. Great reference
I use ableton these days, but I wish I could magically have a license for Reason again. I was a huge Reason 5 fan back in the day. I just don't have the dough to spend on another daw.
I find most stuff on reason a bit tinny, you really need to push it with compressors, effects, mastering to get a good sound.
Hahahah, "I´m gonna go rogue" - Great! Good video, thanks :)
i love reason, its so nice to look at and from what i can see its more than effective, but ive never used it, iys expensive for nigerians. really wish they was a sort of cheap version for students or something. lobe your tutorials by the way ryan 😊

Propellerhead has got me hook, great video.
most common summary of many tutorials: it's all about experimentation.
Pure gold thanks.
Wow this was super helpful. Thanks.

I just can't stop listening best song of 2018
Ay freesound is such a wonderful site for finding samples
Respect for the NoFX clip. 👍
This guy is awesome!......Actual helpful tips...
What is the name of the program you r using? And should I be a musician in order to be able to use such thing??! Thanks 😊 a lot
Anyone know if a full version of that track exists? (the Falling Down one)
Must be said though, Reason is the absolute shit tits. It's almost literally infinite in it's scope. I have wasted years just messing around with building my own instruments, crazy effect chains and all sorts of nutty professor shit. Just love it.
If only I could afford the £313 for Reason 9.
Hey it's always worth it compared to the hit single you'll be writing with hit ;-) If you really wan't it, you will get it.
Ryan - I absolutely love the track @ 3:20 - do you have a vocal stem you can send? Want to rework the song in Reason. :)
Thankssss, great tutorial and examples !
Fine work! Thanks for another informative video.
the best made and funny tutorials on the web wowowowowow
OKAY! Now That's Kinda Hooky!
Thank you for that, I'll keep it in mind.
As always excellent thanks for the knowledge
3:13 how do i get my beloved transpose buttons again without going to the pitch slices???
Not sure what you mean. Can you explain? /ryan
Wow! Someone referencing Shadow Gallery in our channel. I'm a huge fan of them. :) /Stefan
Are you using Ableton’s here?
Can you show us how to tell if some sample of element in a track is off key
/ryan
Please keep making these videos !!!
Thanks for the advice and the methods, it really helps :)
Good s@#$ to watch with coffee in the morning :) Your vids always give me good ideas.
as a fellow Ryan I thank you
Master Class as usual - thanks, loved it. :)
What did you write this song on ?
