  • Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal is breaking the box office - now close to 500cr.
    But what is driving the insane buzz around the movie? What are people connecting with? It's not the action or the complicated father - son relationship .... its MUCH DEEPER
    Vanga has been able to go Pro Max on his Kabir Singh formula and connect with the inner chad of his male audience ..... AND THEY ARE LOVING IT!!!!
    Sam Bahadur - though struggling at the BO - was made with a similar thought process - serve the market with what they WANT .... but given the overdose of nationalism - that ploy may not be working any more.
    here's a deep dive into both the movies....and what is making one break records .....

    Lot of comments asking why the hell a movie review?? Many are also taking this as another hate review on Sandeep Vanga...
    1. Sam Bahadur & Animal both are closely linked to our society and the wild success of Animal shows how the public is thinking and what it is resonating with.
    2. This review actually compliments Vanga .... he introduced the Kabir Singh Pro Max Version in Animal - perhaps knowing fully well that it will drive people crazy and give him the buzz.... it WORKED WONDERS - despite the toxic masculinity / sexism - having NO ROLE in the main storyline!!!! #respect !!!!!

      Isn't this strange how come such a movie which glorified perverts and demeaned womens to every possible way and portrayed showcasing dominance on women as the stigma of strong alpha male. Although in reality those are the weakest mens in the society..still how come this flim is getting so much success.. I guess sandeep Reddy vanga will glorify rapists in his next Flim. At the end in kabir Singh toxic aggression on womens was justified, in animal sexual violence against women is justified as stigma of alpha male. So maybe in his next flim he'll justify crimes like rape too

      That's just a mask to fool the audience by encashing their emotions. Main purpose of the movie was to exhibit violence, gory, brutality, misogyny, sexuality, nudity, trashy demeaning dialogues, shocking factors as much as possible in the name of father son love. Bcz the makers know it today's audience likes all of those.

    I watched both movies personally even if Sam bahadur could have been much better still i think it was quite motivating and emotion triggering film where you can see a personality with courage and confidence and coming from army background the scenes were actually quite authentic. On the contrary Animal just felt like collection of those Sigma reels with banger background music which increases your dopamine for a temporary duration but during the whole movie i was just trying to find the connections between those reels and in the end there was nothing more than a mentally unstable person trying to justify all kind of things in the name of his family or father and i have felt that in both Kabir Singh and Animal the main villian or problem was always the main character's personality if the Main character has a little more brain, 99% problems were already solved. and that might be the moral of the story if there was any to begin with.

    • @somelonelyguy000
      @somelonelyguy000 5 месяцев назад

      That was the point of animal
      It is about a mentally unstable emotionally abused guy
      There is supposed to be no moral of the film and its main focus is violence and s*x in fact that is one of the reasons that the movie has an A rating

    • @yuvrajganguly
      @yuvrajganguly 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@somelonelyguy000No moral is complete shit logic. You could probably point to something like John Wick and say how it's mostly a no brain revenge flick yet beloved. I would say the difference is in two places; the action choreography is incomparable and Keanu didn't play a douche bag like Ranbir. And having a douche bag piece of shit lead isn't the problem, we love anti-heroes and anti-villains; but if they don't suffer at the end for all their toxicity, that's a bad message.

    • @yuvrajganguly
      @yuvrajganguly 2 месяца назад +1

      @RehaanPandey-oq1dy Do agree and I don't have a problem with those. I have a problem with the ones that send a shitty message while that could have been avoided.

    • @yuvrajganguly
      @yuvrajganguly 2 месяца назад

      @RehaanPandey-oq1dy I don't think your opinion is inherently wrong, but for once my problem with Animal wasn't with the murders, but glorification of his toxic traits and somewhat cheating. And John killed other killers and did himself die in the end. It feels like a video game. I am not saying my opinion is right and everyone is a piece of shit for liking Animal; I am inherently talking about kind of films I like and what I dislike; but there are people who might kinda feel that his character is admirable. What I am trying to say is, films are a strong form of art, capable of reaching masses unlike most other mediums. Triumph of the Will and Olympus molded the German people to hate the Jews and The Birth of a Nation caused race riots across the US and led to the rebirth of the KKK. These all are some of the best made films. Not saying Animal is like that, but think how many Hindi films of late 90s and early 2000s portrayed stalking as romantic, and the public mostly bought that.

    • @yuvrajganguly
      @yuvrajganguly 2 месяца назад +1

      @RehaanPandey-oq1dy Again, I agree with you. I didn't like Animal myself, like at all, but it doesn't mean no one can. I actually had this very argument with my father after watching Animal. It's still very true though, irrespective of backlash or boycott that films have the power to influence and they aren't really forced to use it for good but imo, they have duty with respect to what they are making. And like your Jawan example, it does influence people, even if for a moment. Birth Of A Nation is one of the most technically revolutionary movies made and not in circumstances like the Nazi movies, according to Griffith he was just telling a story but it did cause race riots and rebirth of the KKK. I have still seen people online talking about how KKK was important when it was formed, basing their perception totally on the movie. Animal isn't that deep. In fact I have loved many more problematic movies and unabashedly so; and it isn't really "that bad" like some 80s and 90s stuff, but saying a movie doesn't have any moral obligation is wrong imo. A story can be morally grey, it might ask us questions we aren't comfortable with and follow the antivillain or even the villain; but consequences are important. What I am trying to say, I don't have a problem if a movie has one morally bankrupt thing or one misdirection, I even hate the censor board; and I may like even bleaker films for reasons; I just prefer consequences and saying a film doesn't have a responsibility is wrong.

But people are going to watch Animal which is problematic and toxic character. The audience is at the fault everytime they cry for good content in Bollywood movies and when Bollywood tries to make that they shift towards masala movies. Same thing happened with many good movies like Swades, Kahaani, Lakshya, etc. The kind of content we watch reflect the image of society. Instead of boycotting Bollywood they should boycott their obsession with toxic characters.

    I don’t have a problem with violence in movies. I’m a huge Tarantino fan. However, violence without conviction gave me a migraine by the end of Animal. I didn’t care about the characters and there was no time spent in the reason why Ranbir became the animal he is in the film. Belonging to a highly influential family flying private jets, his dad issues seemed too insignificant which left the stakes too low for the viewers. The song used for the climax fight was misplaced and seemed comical for the situation. Indian directors have a long way to go. Just watch how Tarantino writes long conversational scenes cooking up the suspense to a great high which then explodes into violence. Over here the dialogues were elementary to say the least.

    What an excellent video! Akash is in form in this one!
    I'm deeply disappointed that Sam Bahadur has the flaws that have been pointed out. I have always heard a lot about FM Manekshaw growing up, and I was eager to watch a movie about him. But I've absolutely no intention of going to watch some nationalistic, sanitized nonsense. I'll just buy a well-reviewed biography of the war hero, and read that instead.
    Oh, and don't even get me started on this movie Animal. I saw Sucharita's review, and it looks like she and Akash have the same thing to say. Clearly, it's a deeply inferior piece of work, made by inferior human beings to appeal to the inferior sensibilities of other inferior human beings. Not even worth talking about.
    And last, I'm shocked to find out that movies about the army in this country need the army's approval. I had no idea about that one. Is there end to our goverment's stupidity and depravity?

    My father had got his MPhil in staff college from the field marshal (Wellington was where he settled). I don’t think 1971 can be made into a movie. It has to be a documentary, there were too many great men like Gen Sagat Singh, Aurora, Jacob, IS Gill, Shahbeg Singh (yes the same guy who later joined Bhindarwale) etc etc (and women like Indira Gandhi and Mrs Sabarwal, she was the wife of the first CO of 9 para commando and she and the officer wives landed up at the Military Hospital and told the doctors that they will tend to the commando wounded and other wounded in action )
    That war even at a cost of a thousand plus KIA for us had everything go in clock work right from Indira Gandhi and her circle all the way till Sipahi Bhoop Singh when he assaulted a bunker 😊

      I would like to counter you with two points.
      1. This movie is a fiction and there is nothing wrong with watching fictional things. Do you seriously think that anybody can replicate all those things that ranbeer kapoor did in the movie?
      Like do you think anybody wil slit throats, use guns, do violence just because of a movie and not because they are already a criminal?
      2. If anybody is committing violence towards women because of this movie, you should realise that movies are not the problem, the people who assualt are the problem. It's like saying video games cause violence or its like saying that certain types of clothes invite sexual assault.
      I wrote this long message for you to realise that movies are fictional and not real life. It's an adult film with gore, violence, adult scenes and what not.
      So I am disappointed that you can't differentiate fiction with reality. I can watch whatever content I like, does not mean I am what I watch.
      Watching footage of soldiers does not make me a soldier, watching footage of terrorists does not make me a terrorist. That's it.

But you have to agree with the fact that women are still not safe in a community that is very much full of men who consider themselves Alpha in a very wrong way. This movie might make them come out & get bolder. Please don’t think I am referring them to wolves, I am thinking more like RATS 👎

    • @channelchatter112
      @channelchatter112 5 месяцев назад +4

      @@NDO75 i don't believe in alpha, beta thing myself. Those theories apply to other animals. Human beings are much more socially complex and intelligent than other species and our behaviour cannot be limited like this.
      Now that being said, I am always opposed to violence/crime against women (and men too). I have a little sister at home and I would want her to grow in a safe, progressive environment with career growth opportunities and without worrying about crime, violence, etc.
      Now when it comes to movies or video games or any other content, I welcome creativity even if it's a bit slightly offensive ( because I know it's fiction and as long as it doesn't promote all that stuff, this movie doesn't promote all this stuff rather it portrays ranbeer kapoor's character as flawed and someone who we should look at with disdain and not with admiration). So once we know that the movie is portraying the protagonist as an anti hero and not a hero,.I am somewhat fine with it.
      If at any point the movie would have DIRECTLY promoted violence against women or other forms of crime. I would have outright spoken against it. Otherwise it's just half bad half decent action movie for me personally.
      Sorry for this long of a message.

    It's concerning to see a growing trend of films like 'Animal,' where directors and A-list actors prioritize profit over meaningful storytelling. The demand for such movies reflects a craving for misplaced masculinity in our society. This film is not average in any way. The screenplay, dialogues, bgm, music, few montages are unparalleled.
    Second half the person changes enormously in a negative way, he loses his masculinity, he becomes deaf, his bladder looses control, a person can go into depression, a person becomes a maniac like this protoganist / antagonist or if he trusts some one a lot who can get him out of this. This is a very complex character.

    • @Drxyz-tk6le
      @Drxyz-tk6le 6 месяцев назад

      There is no such thing as toxic masculinity. Masculinity is masculinity.
      Now there will be bad men. There will be good men. The bad men the villains are attractive because they aren't good men. But they are good at being men. Ferocious, powerful, calculative, resourceful, action oriented, protective. Good men who have the same trait are considered heroes.
      If you are afraid of bad men. Have good men with equally strong character. Equally masculine. Equally destructive.
      What you call toxic is the basic necessity.
      Chhama Shobhit uss bhujang ko jiske paas garal ho. Uska kya jo dant-heen, bish - heen, Saral ho

    Also to your point about Dunkirk.
    First question comes to my mind is do we have the capability to develop such movies? Yes I think we do.
    Second question.
    Is there a risk to make such movies ? Yes there is a high risk to get it approved from the board.
    Third question
    Will the Indian audience like such movies ? Yes peope will like such movies if there is a good message and a storyline example rang de basanti or swades (not a blockbuster but good storyline)
    Also to add to this I feel people would rather like to watch more movies where there are real stories about our history of Indian army (even if the story is around any mission that failed in the past its fine) rather than showing the negativity of the character potrayed in Animal.
    I feel any form of art be it creating movies, writing songs, poems, stories or painting one has been provided with this exceptional talent that can be used to send a positive message to the audience. But at the end of the day its the decision of the artist how you want to approach it. There is nothing right or wrong here but 10-20 years down the line when people watch these movies one should think he or she doesnt regret what they did.
    This reminds the famous dialogue from another beautiful movie 3 Idiots "Sucess ke piche math bhago excellence ka peecha karo. Success jhak marke tumare piche aayegi"

    I saw Animal with my parents and without being "AWKWARD" we actually discussed about the problems shown in the movie and the valuable lessons
    1.) How not to be like Vijay ( Ranbir's character)
    2.) Prioritizing your family is important because greed of money and power will drag you away from your family
    3.) The repurcussion of obsession even though if it's with your father
    4.) Excessive wealth can lead to its own set of problems
    It was an eye opening experience that highlighted the importance of balance and priorities in life
    However i would still watch Sam Bahadur

      I didn't like Animal all that much, I feel there's a much better movie in there if we cut out the fat. 3+ hrs for a mindless action flick is insane, I was already bored by the halfway mark because the film had fed me at least 2-3 story threads that ended up going nowhere, and action was just Ranbir's character farming XP from fodder units

      @@astindods_ why can't I disagree? Pathaan and Jawan were better movies simply because their editing was tighter, and action better
      Pathaan and Jawan actually had my attention, and though they too fumbled on the main villain, didn't fumble it as bad as Animal. Bobby's character had such little development at the end, that I didn't care Vijay was beating the crap out of him, even if they blew my ear with the dramatic BGM. and there were so many plot points that could be removed to do this, like the underwear scene, all the scenes with Zoya (they may be relevant in the future, but they should've been way shorter) and the whole cheating thing first with his cousins and then himself. The movie also forgot the sisters by the second half, so why give them so much screen time in the first half??? Give all that screen time to the villains, they have a shared history, which is not even shown, simply given to the audience via exposition by dadaji. But the film tries to display their parallels DURING THE FIGHT ITSELF, why?
      Animal is a mediocre film in my opinion, it needs better action, better story with actual emphasis on the main characters. With all the emphasis on the sisters, I thought the film had something in store for them, but even before the second half they're already reduced to cameos. Same for the body double, same for the cousins. They had a cool scene walking with the guns though

      @@astindods_ my requirements are very simply, what I see on screen should matter, and for most of Animal, it doesn't. And it's not just a couple of scenes, entire major events end up nothing burgers or undercooked in Animal
