I love that you check out the books!! Its so refreshing to see creators checking out books instead of buying them. Check out your local library everybody!!
@v1oletlantern i mean,,, i don't think I'd say it's as far as calling it that, but yeah it's super uncomfortable to read 3 brothers competing for the same girl
@@v1oletlanternthe Shadowhunter chronicles is my all time favorite book series. I first read the mortal instruments at 11. Re-reading them at 21 I had to pause several times on the second book bc it was just like … how did 11 year old me not feel the ick ?!
Glad that you loved wicked so much too! It was a fun film and I honestly wish we had part 2 already as well. I understand the collector struggle when so many editions keep coming out haha. I haven't read assistant to the villain or the inheritance games, but I just get the vibe that neither of those would be for me... But I am glad you were able to enjoy one of the books at least ^.^
I really liked the silent patient and immediately started reading the maidens afterwards (didn't like it that much) but I don't know if you remember that the protagonist in the maidens talks to Theo (they share the same universe :O)
When I was reading Assistant to the Villain, I could not stop picturing the Pokémon Goodra every time they mentioned the Guvra which just made it so cartoony to me pfffft
Dude the thing about authors is so true. My favorite book is Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom, but I’ve hated every other Leigh Burdugo book 😂 my favorite series but not my favorite author lol
I LOVED Assistant to the Villain! Such an easy and fun read! It was the perfect break from my more serious readings. The sequel is good too. Can't wait for the 3rd!
I saw the twist coming, but I still really liked the book; though I’m nervous about picking up his other books because I’ve heard a lot of bad reviews/opinions
I wanted to like the Silent Patient so badly but I just really did not enjoy it. I understand why people enjoy it, but I just thought it was boring and felt predictable. I surprisingly liked the icebreaker series by Hannah grace (not so much the first book but the second and third) and I absolutely despised If He Had Been with Me. I kept seeing it all over TikTok and I wanted to cry and the only emotion it caused was anger. Great video as always!!
I thought Assistant to the Villain felt like cheesy fanfiction and yet I continued reading it anyways. Also the fact that one of the characters changed names part way through just demonstrated the editing/level of writing we were getting.
I also loved the Silent patient and I‘m really used to Reading thrillers. Though I didn’t see the ending coming. I‘m so glad you enjoyed it too! I really like watching your Videos and listening to your yapping. Greetings from Germany 🫶🏼
my 2025 goal is to get back to reading and you were one of the first (and fav) booktuber i found in highschool. Pleeaaassseee keep uploading, love you !
This was such a fun reading vlog! I haven't read The Inheritance Games yet and was shocked it was hated. I also heard a lot of dislike about The Silent Patient from a few people I know. It was interesting to hear that you enjoyed that read!
I am glad you gave the silent patient author a second chance.. i really enjoyed that one. I really disliked the midnight library by matt haig and was very hesitant on reading anything else from him, but the humans was an amazing book.
I’d love to see you read and react to the Ruinous Love Trilogy. The third one is coming out in the new year. As for popular books I hate, try The Truth and Lies of Ella Black.
In general, I think The Silent Patient got more positive reactions than what he's released since. (Not sure about his new one.) I do remember one RUclipsr predicting the twist, but that was Kayla from BooksandLala, who's well versed in thrillers.
Great picks for this video! I dnf'd the first book, have stayed far away from the second, and like you I really enjoyed the third. Unfortunately it's the only one I've liked from that author so far, but I'm holding out hope!
i felt that exact same feeling with TIG. fun puzzle, bleh YA romance, and for me there was just enough of a mysterious cliffhanger at the very end that made me buy the second book. [vague spoilers below] second book had mysteries, but most of the book became about the love triangle. so much so to the point that when i tried reading the third book of the trilogy, i had to put it down after 5 chapters. i hated it so much. IMO it goes downhill after the first book. and apparently there's like??? ~7 books total so far???
I want to read The Silent Patient SO BADLY but I just can't get myself to pick it up😩Everytime I do that with a book I end up LOVING it so I'm like WHY won't I just buy it and read it
I liked The Inheritance book. But hated the characters and the possible romance. After it was over, I didn’t care to know how the series ended. I enjoyed The Silent Patient but never think about it
I have just started reading The Silent Patient. While the build-up is very interesting, I do not like the "knight in the shining armour" attitude of the protagonist. It feels a little more that what a concerned psychotherapist would feel. Let's see what happens...
I just DNFed The Serpent and the Wings of Night yesterday! I really wanted to love it but the pacing was a bit weird and the vampires weren’t my favorites. If I read a book about vampires I have to like them.
I’m so sad that you didn’t like assistant to the villain but I understand it. I loved it. It is one of my top reads this year. It gets even better in the second book. It’s ok if you don’t keep reading the series though.
Have you checked out or considered checking out Terry Pratchett's Discworld series (his other novels too, tbh, I think you would enjoy Nation and The Bromeliad, for example), and/or Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London series? They're fantasy series, but a bit different than the kind of fantasy you seem to have read so far (although I haven't followed you for *that* long, so maybe I'm wrong about that!), both for different reasons. Rivers of London is urban fantasy, basically fantasy set in the real world. Discworld started out as satire of then-traditional fantasy, and kept that sense of humor, even though it has evolved to so much more than that. I would also consider both series as 'cozy', although they contain very serious elements and can be stressful at times, but like... It's kind of like the Thursday Murder Club in that the overall vibes are pretty chill and funny. Also both series are British. Anyway, maybe something to check out in the new year!
To be honest i haven't read any of these except the silent patient which i happened to not like, i felt like it dragged on for too long with too many unnecessary characters 😂 now i wonder what I'll think about the others
Hey Jesse, a popular book 📖 that I love is As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh oh my goodness I cried reading it, and it’s such a beautiful story . A popular book that I hate probably still is Kingdom Of The Wicked or Wildfire by Hannah Grace
As someone who just always seems to pick up Alex Michaelides books, I would love to know what you think of his latest release, The Fury 👀 I feel like watching this video is my sign to reread The Silent Patient because I just don't remember it. But I also kind of hated The Maidens, it was not a hit for me
Popular books I hated: The Midnight Library and Such Remarkable Creatures (though I loved the octopus in that one) Popular books I loved: How to Solve Your Own Murder and Thursday Murder Club (apparently I enjoy murder?)
I really liked The Midnight Library (though it’s definitely not my favorite of Matt Haig’s books) and Such Remarkable Creatures! I’m curious what didn’t work for you/what made you not like them?
@@jadebatugo It's a bit of a spoiler for Such Remarkable Creatures, so I'll only say there was one major character (not mentioned in the blurb) that I deeply disliked. For The Midnight Library, there was a lot, sorry! 😓 It was a great concept that somehow just didn't work for me in the way it was actually told. I read a lot of fantasy and fantastical fiction, but it didn't feel believable/authentic to me for some reason. But I'm glad you enjoyed both!
Ewww, I felt your pain when you bit into the cold gummy bear. 😬 As for popular books I didn’t like, A Tempest of Tea didn’t vibe with me. I’ve never been much of a vampire person, and the heist was underwhelming (to be fair, I’d just read the Six of Crows duology, and it’s hard for any heist book to measure up to Leigh Bardugo’s brilliance).
A popular book that I hated so much I dnf'd it was project hail Mary by Andy weir. I'm sorry I just don't have science brain, my brain is art and words and the sheer overwhelming amount of science in the first five chapters (which is where I gave up and closed the book forever) made my brain exhausted. Maybe I'll finish it some day but it is not this day
I was fully prepared for another hour during the Wicked movie, and then it just ended on me! It went by so quickly, but it was so good! A popular book I love is Spellshop, just such a quintessential cozy fantasy book. And a popular book I didn't like was A Good Girl's Guide to Murder --- I didn't hate it, but it was very much meh and I don't really get the hype.
Once upon a broken heart is seriously so fucking overhyped. Don't know how people tolerated evangeline throughout 3 books . I rarely like MC in books but my god she was hella annoying.
I shockingly really enjoyed Icebreaker by Hannah Grace (tbf, my expectations were in the ground when I picked it up) and I cannot stand The Song of Achilles. Soooo much 🍇. I felt sick to my stomach.
It kinda hurt seeing you rate the Inheritance Games so low, but I totally get your points. I think I just fell in love with the series because of how clever it was. I could have cared less for the love triangle, but the rest of the story is so witty and fun, and it was sort of my intro to drama mystery, and it holds a really special place in my heart
I understand how you don’t like the inheritance games but I loved it. The trilogy is great. You understand in the later two books why Tobias kept tabs on Avery and why she was chosen more and everything. Also it gets even better as it goes on. I didn’t care too much for the romance but loved the puzzles and the guys were fun too.
I am a social worker so a lot of psych. education and I guessed the end about 3 pgs before the reveal but I still loved it. I agrèe with you about the leagal issues but wrote that off as literary licence. My original guess was the head of the hospital.
I love that you check out the books!! Its so refreshing to see creators checking out books instead of buying them.
Check out your local library everybody!!
I felt the same with The Silent Patient. I didn’t see that plot twist coming either. I’m very new to thrillers and I really enjoyed it!
authors are like this is the most evil irredeemable character ever and then the character is just like. kind of sarcastic and not even in a mean way
"here's the book without its clothes on" 😂😂
love triangles where the love interests are siblings drive me nuts, so i didn't like the inheritance games either
Ummmm, what in the incest? Welp, glad I haven't started that yet.
@v1oletlantern i mean,,, i don't think I'd say it's as far as calling it that, but yeah it's super uncomfortable to read 3 brothers competing for the same girl
@bluesey-182 ohhh, I was thinking like Cassandra Clare...sorry, shadow hunters scared me for life.

I can't believe you rated the tiktok trend higher than some of the books 😅
tbf, alot people prolly hate it cause its a booktok book, others they might hate for other problems related to the book
I looooved Wicked! I've been fortunate enough to see it live multiple times and I feel like the movie handled it so well! Need part 2 asap

Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer is such a good YA romance! It's definitely up your alley since we have similar book taste👏🏼
I LOVED Assistant to the Villain! Such an easy and fun read! It was the perfect break from my more serious readings. The sequel is good too. Can't wait for the 3rd!
I have learned that if a book is popular on booktok, I will nearly always hate it lol
SO ready for Wicked part 2!!!
So glad you enjoyed the silent patient! I think as long as you don't guess the big twist, it's super good!
