Sharla how much luck do you have with asking for vegan options at non-vegan places? I've got the impression from other sources that Japanese chefs don't like to make any changes to meals to accommodate, and that most Japanese people don't understand what vegan is.
I have been wanting to go to Japan for 2 years and its finally happening. Next may iam doing Kyoto-Fuji-Tokyo and the plan is to also go in the summer. So excited!
I hope you have a fun trip! I myself went with a friend last year and we were most of the time in Tokyo but we went to Kyoto to the Torii gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine and also went on a day trip to Universal Studios in Osaka and a lot of other stuff. We had a lot of fun and I want to go again so I have started to save up money again! :D

So thb I hope Japan will open in july because otherwise its going to be hard to go next year since by then ill probably be a working men with 0 time.
There was something so wonderful about the impromptu interlude with Shiori and Natasha. Maybe it was that lovely early morning glow; maybe it was the simple, aimless ease with which they strolled about, not in a rush to get anywhere; either way, I must have watched that section three or four times.
I would love to had seen a Natasha painting creation, as she's pretty good with those things. As a vegan i love the shojin-ryori, thanks for sharing ❤️
The prints behind everyone in the final sequence at 15:30 are by husband-and-wife team Kozyndan! It's really nice to see their artwork featured here!! I don't know if you got a good look at them or not, but the pictures are all made up of tiny bunnies.
Such a beautiful well done video, but I gotta say Shiori with a GoPro on her head is my new favorite image. I love you all! Keep up the fantastic content.
You were near my old stomping ground. If you continued up that train line, you would have come to Kameoka and Sonobe on the other side of the mountains. There is a very nice train ride called the "Romantic Train" between Arashiyama and Umahori stations. But my favourite part of Kyoto is Papa Jon's cheesecake shop - not particularly budget friendly but the best cheesecake and chai tea I have ever had.
ive been dreaming to go to japan for years and years and now with almost a year of planning its finally going to happen at the end of august and i will be staying for a whole year! i plan on living in kyoto so thank you girls for the tour!
Yay for a girls trip! My favourite thing I did in Kyoto was attend a kyogashi making class, lots of fun with other lovely travellers and a few locals, was pretty cheap too! :)
I’ve been to Kyoto twice so far but I didn’t know about the crafts shop. Would definitely love to go there the next time I come to Japan. Great gift ideas. My favorite part of being in Kyoto was climbing the Fushimi Inari Shrine at night and visiting Arashiyama. The 2nd time I had gone to Kyoto was during the New Year’s celebrations so I got to experience visiting the shrine at midnight - waiting in the huge crowd to get in, that was interesting. Sadly I didn’t really experience the Gion area since a lot of things were closed. Would love to go there next time.
Kyoto looks like a beautiful city to travel to in Japan especially during the summer!! 😊 8:47 Such a breathtaking sight as well with the events that are held up there! 😍🙌🏽
Summer is not a good time humidity is always very high so a sumer day of 28 feels more like 38. I have been in Summer, Autumn and Winter. Autumn leaves are amazing and its not as busy as the spring time. Although Kyoto is busy all year round as everyone that is a tourist ends up there as part of their journey.
@@Reachforitify I heard how hot it gets there but I never knew it was that bad.... But I'd still would try and go anyways and enjoy what's they have to offer during the summer!
My favorite place there in Kyoto was definitely the Yazaka shrine area up to the pagoda. Very old style, love it. My wife enjoyed herself at Arashiyama bamboo groove.
I love the girls trip videos! They are soo much fun. I really liked the craft activity you got to do and I was pleasantly surprised by the hostel hotel.
That hotel looks beautiful!! I can't believe it's only around 35 dollars. It sounded like the surrounding area was good at speaking English as well, which for me, would be helpful! Can't wait to see part II--thanks ladies!
I went to Kyoto first when I came to Japan for the first time, and was completely jetlagged for most of it. My highlight: eating sukiyaki at a restaurant across the street from the hotel! (wait, and seeing some beautiful temples on day 3!) Now I want to go back and basically do what you did!
I wonder if I was there around the same time, I brought my sister and her kids end of July and beginning of August. I love stopping by Kyoto every few months. I always stay at a hostel near Nishiki Market, beautifully central in the city with plenty to do close by and lots of access to public transit for everything else.
Can we do a video where Sharla just talks about being vegan in Japan, things that are usually vegan safe, kanji to look out for, etc? I would looove that!
Looking forward to you visiting, possibly, the monkey park. Currently in Kyoto studying Japanese, and was in arashiyama last week! Wanted to visit Cross Burger there, but none of the rest of my group did, so missed out on the bamboo charcoal black buns and separately melted cheese on the burgers. Have literally just walked down to look at the floats for the Gion Matsuri parade tomorrow morning. So many Yukatas! Now to get back to homework so I can watch some of the parade before my 11am class.
I guess I watched these out of order. Anyway, the fancy hotel was wonderful, but this experience actually seemed more fun. The hostel seems to really suit a group, like a travelling pajama party. I can’t believe how pretty all your artwork turned out!
Love seeing Natasha and Shiori! And the yokai (gashadokuro?) bag was my favorite design! Gorgeous and detailed. Sharla's and Kim's were super cute though
I've been to Kyoto a few times and the last time I went I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit the Train museum on the 1 year anniversary. (If trains are your thing is recommended it). I wish I could have seen the Bamboo forest when I was there. Next time I will for sure.
Great video! One of my favourite parts about my trip to Kyoto was staying a few nights at the Shunkoin Temple in the Myōshinji Temple complex. It is a gorgeous Buddhist temple with a lot of interesting history. They cater to English-speaking guests, so no worries if you speak little or no Japanese, and they have meditation and calligraphy classes too!
Aw Kyoto is amazing can't wait to go back. We utterly splurged on being dressed in geisha costume in the Old part of town and it was amazing. And the sweet arrowroot noodles were interesting! And Nijo Castle... we loved the monkey place at Arishiyama. My one regret was not finding somewhere to try Buddhist cuisine. It's top of my list if we ever go back so thanks for this suggestion!

I love how informed sharla is on everything to do with Japanese language and culture
For the fact it was so cheap the quality of the hostel is impressive. The equivalent in the UK would be shocking.
