This guy was a friend of mine. Richard Versalle. He had an unfortunate demise when he fell to his death on the stage of the MET during the production of the Makropulous Case in 1996. This must be the recording of him at Bayreuth. I guess he is immortal now. Thanks for posting this.
This opera had a great influence on me, for I majored in Harp at Cal State University Sacramento and made my living with the Harp in so. cal playing in restaurants and weddings. D. Alexandr D'Maddalena
Thank you so much; it is a great interpretation done by great artists, in a wonderful stage. Thank you very much again for sharing this great material with all us.Bravo!!!
If this of 1983 (I still remember the decoration) this were in Bayreuth. In this year I were my first time in Bayreuth and saw the Tannhäuser, still one of my favorite operas.
I did not heard from Richard Versalle never before, but find his interpretation great!!!, bravo, he is a true lyrico-spinto tenor , with a great sensibility for this wonderful wagnerian role (who the soprano is?, and when and where this was sung?, please let us know).BRAVOOO!!!!
She is not a soprano . She is a mezzo (and quite pretty at that . - Venus part is for mezzos, who have the more sensual roles - - Carmen - Dalilah - Rossina...). Sopranos play silly girls.
She doesnt sound like a mezzo, like an undeveloped soprano with no real low notes (like lots of so-called mezzos nowadays). But noone yet said, who she is...

I agree. How many lyrico spinto tenors have sung heldentenor roles?
In Bayreuth
Versalle replaced Kollo
Unfortunately Versalle died in an accident in stage, very sad…
@@WolfgangAPalm-ju9er Oh my God,terrible!!!, so sad...but his recordings will keep his art alive🌿🎶😇
Bravo il tenore!
What orchestra is playing? Nice to hear multiple harps!

Wagner's Score indicates "Sopran"

By the second verse you can hear his voice beginning to fall apart. And this is just the first act!
Im dying of laugh. Totally crappy direction, grotesque acting and set design. And that fake lyre... ahahahaha Does anybody take it serious?
