I'm a one-man business, and I just marvel at how busy you can be, and on top of that film and put out YT content. Take care of yourself (family) and business 1st, and never worry about putting out less videos. We'll always be here enjoying anything you upload. So glad the shop is working out so well for you!
Plus 1 for business related content: 1. Estimating tips/software 2. Business Finance management 3. Drawing software 4. Etc. Thanks for all the work you do, Spencer!
I mounted a hardwood piece 1x4 vertical and secured a few ends of 4x4. Puts a sweet rail to just hang all cutters and grabbers… in fact that’s how I sharpie on them to teach my children as they learn the difference between many hand tools. Cutters on right and grabbers on left… and I can fit a ton so it’s easy to grab what you need with project in hand! Thanks for a great tour and amazing content as usual! I built your dolly system for my packouts and it’s sick!
Spencer, I recall your decision to purchase the shop and the trust you put in God. It is nice to see your faith and trust rewarded as the shop is paid for. All the best to you and your family,
The videos and content is very well presented and well thought out.... I do a lot of finish carpentry and thoroughly enjoy it... your information, explanations, and techniques are excellent and certainly confirm that you are extremely competent and constantly question methods and strive to improve process. I do hope you are suitably proud of your accomplishments as you are indeed skilled. If only there were more similarly committed skilled tradesmen out there. Hopefully your knowledge will help many trades folks improve their level of work and commitment to quality. Well dot All the best Chas
You'll fill up that future space in no time, either with your expanding business, or as a possible rental property. The key thing is that you bought bigger from the start to give yourself plenty of options. Very happy for your success!
Great shop, I am sure there are many envious viewers. I am glad you mentioned the part of sacrificing and saving until you are prepared to take on a big shop. So many people fail by trying to have everything all at once. I think you also mentioned the ability to store RVs and other seasonal stuff in the cold storage side in a previous video. That can be a real great passive income generator. But I am sure you've already looked at all the angles. All the best to you and your wife and the rest of your family!
For the garage door problem they make a rubber threshold that glues down and the door comes down on it and no water will enter. Check with your garage door company and they should have it for you to purchase. I have used them a lot and they work great. Your shop is looking really great. Hoping all keeps going well for you. Thanks for sharing and the tour of the new shop.
Spencer, I loved seeing your wood storage solutions. I'm setting up a 25x50 foot shop space and I was planning on storing my plywood stock horizontal. I'm pretty sure that plan has gone out the window now. Your shop has a lot of incredible ideas for me to improve the layout and functionality of my shop as I progress. Many thanks for a very timely video!
Thank you for giving proper dimensions! Almost all videos I watch online from North Americans seem to only say the square footage of their shops and never the length/width. :)
Totally agree with your statement that it takes sacrifices to get to the point you're at. We all want shortcuts, but I haven't found anything that works other than hard work, living beneath your means, and very intentional spending and saving.
I really like the idea of having that fence on the miter station so you know if you set something behind it won’t be in your way. Every time I go to use mine I have something in the way lol
Spencer, I have to tell you, you are the best. I look forward to every video and have learned a lot from you. Years ago, I used to watch This Old House, every Saturday. It gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I would settle in with my coffee in my lounge chair and soak it up. Well, you have replaced that. I watch one other finish carpentry channel, but instruction wise, I get a lot more from you. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much for giving us the shop dimensions! I too compare shop sizes and think about how much space do I need. Thanks! You're awesome. I appreciate ALL your content!
Great tour. The similarities to my own small shop setup and details are so close as to be freaky... other than your comparitively endless square footage, which makes me green with envy. Great planning on your part.
Just amazing. With so much content from the past it’s always catchup and rinse and repeat for me. So don’t worry about the new stuff so much. Amazing, best of luck to you and the family as always!
Thanks for the tour it's an awesome shop and the insight to what it takes to reach such that goal. Love the channel and your way of teaching and explaining your professional techniques. Thanks for Sharing and see ya on the nest one.
LOVE your shop. I have a detached Bldg 24x28 for my shop. I'm looking to build an addition on it in the future. I out grew that space almost immediately. I really enjoy your content in both the field and in the shop. Love seeing the growth as well. thank you for sharing!
What a fantastic shop!! Great that you have maximized your efficiency with the way you have set it up. Love the idea of a driving range simulator. I notice your lighting is darn good too. Congrats!!
They make gratings that go in front of grage doors that you can hook a drainage pipe to. You have to build a concrete trough. On top of that you put your grating. They come in iron or plastic. At the end, you install your flexible drainage pipe. Saw it on This Old House where the garage was at the bottom of a sloped driveway.
You are the man Spencer. Sweet set-up! Appericiate all the effort and sharing your life's work. To be proud of!! Love your content, always learning and adding myself. Great job!
Glad to hear about the business content to come! And the golf stuff in the shop, I think it's a great idea buddy can't be all work to get there takes to much as you very well know
Definitely interested in the business focused content! Already have learned a ton on the trade side from your videos and would love to get your perspective on the business side! Appreciate the content sir
I’m definitely interested in the business related content. You have achieved a lot of what I’m just now striving to achieve, although I’m primarily focused on cabinetry. I would also love to hear about how all this began and back when you when you were just grinding out. Incredible Shop! You’re an inspiration to many. 🤙
My shop teacher in Jr. High had peg boards for tools. Every tool was outlined with marker. That way, the kids could put the tool back where it went and know which way it was supposed to go.
A dream shop for me as a humble DIYer and wood worker. Have you considered partitioning the extra space and leasing it out for some extra cash flow? You could always take it back once you have time and need for it in your business.
Such an incredible outfit. I would enjoy hearing about the business side of things. I'm pretty satisfied with my operation but it could always use improvements. Obviously expenses and things vary based on region but I would really appreciate any general information that you would consider universally valuable.
Spencer, all the best for you and your family! Although only a hobbyist (in Germany ) I have been always admiring your way of thinkful working . Your financials seem to be in tight order, also. By the way, your accent is really understandable for me 😅 . Carry on with your good stuff 👍😃
So glad to hear everything is going well for you and your family. You're a good dude and I hope and pray for nothing but the best for you. P.S. You should move forward with the golf simulator idea in the back area.
So happy for you that you got your shop and that it is so close to home! Looks like you have been in forever, not just a year. Where's the golf sim??? A hitting net is a great start.
I would appreciate hearing more about the business end of your operation and how it fits in with your future plans. Will you stay active in the field? Transition into having a crew or multiple crews and taking on a full time management role? Plans for when the body wears. Are there plans when you hit that point. And you will hit that point one day.
I would definitely like more content, video or podcast, on the business side of things. I would be interested in financial, marketing and management content but also your take on time management, work/life balance, how you balance working on your business along with working in your business. Your shop looks great. I'm happy to see this coming together for you. Thanks for sharing.
Personal Business Life Cycle: When discussing business content, there is the business of the business and the personal side of business. Someday, we leave our business (or job) either by retirement or death. There is a life cycle to both the business and the person in the business. It would be helpful to other persons in the trade to be exposed to thinking about the person business cycle. USB/110VAC Outlets: I have found it useful to have USB/110VAC outlets in my shop. These outlets get rid of the wall warts. I have a USBC and a USB Micro cord which works for most things.
hello I appreciate your shop setup so much....One thing I would like to see incorporporated in your shop is your computer CAD station. Me being in CAD for years havin g a shop like yours a must to have auto cad, draw it in paper / CAD and execute it in your beatiful shop... I beacame an instant FAN .......
I would love some videos on productivity key metrics. I always have a nagging feeling that I'm slower than other guys, and it would be great to know where that is true, so I can focus on improving those areas. I know that's a big ask, as it is a lot of the secret sauce of a business. And being competitive when bidding jobs.
Think about a white board on the wall and another chair for client meetings. Then you can take a photos for client confirmations or physically come up with design ideas .
I'd watch the business focused content videos. I've see you discuss the business side in older videos and always though it was interesting and could really help a lot of tradesmen who have trade skills but are missing the mark on profitability.
I’d be interested in business end of things. Especially how to move from a owner operator as a one man show to hiring employees. I’m a finish carpenter and have been on my own for 4 years and have thought lately whether it’s time to take on an employee. Maybe a run through on the process of that
$100.00 a month for electric, sounds almost impossible. One more thing, I didn't see a hanging hammock. Your shop looks great. I have a small shop, every time I turn the lights on, music plays like in a Dr. office, it helps enhance the mood and atmosphere.
This is a huge shop for a solo operation. At least you know a helper or two could work there without having to worry about bumping into each other. Thanks for sharing the things you find that make your operation productive.
17:30 Hey Spencer, where is the new cart for the power feeder? Fingers crossed that that barrel doesn't lose shape. Loving all the new updates and still have the room for expansion. Thanks again. 👍👍
@@InsiderCarpentry So glad for you! I am very grateful for your response. I wish you nothing but continued success. 👍👍 At 64 years, your channel brings me great joy as a finish carpenter. No angst, no garbage, no filler. Kudos to you!
Big fan of your channel here…I’ve learned so much!! Question about the shop lights. What lights did you use and what color temperature did you decide on? I’m about to add some lighting and can’t decide what color temperature would be best. Congrats on the new shop!
@26:30 You can make Rockwool sound panels easy enough '(of course) but Elgato acoustic foam works well. It comes in different colors to make it appealing to the eye. And always interested in the business side of things. I'm not in the trades but am curious.

Drawing software as well please!!

Super interested in business related content. Thanks for all you do!
Refreshing to hear someone encourage financial discipline
That was really good to hear. I was actually waiting for him to say "Dave Ramsey says..." 😆
@@DVanHamlin hahaha...yes...I was thinking the same thing. Great comment.
Again, it's an incredible shop !!! It's never a bad idea to invest in real estate and yourself.

Thanks for showing your pegboard! Not every wall needs a French cleat.

Mr. Spencer I just say I appreciate your very much for your videos. How is your wife doing. May God bless you and your family.

Perfect space to drop in a 10’ sliding table saw. With all those sheet goods I see, it would be a game changer.
Its a great shop and well laid out. The last few minutes of the video drove home some good points and shows your smarts and experience.
Love the financial discipline comments and the discussion on sacrifice/saving over time. I am a broken record on this with my kids.
Never skip one of your videos! Glad to see you’re doing well in the new shop. Lots of sacrifice, but well worth it.
Kick ass. We need a day in the life vid in the shop?
