I always make a prediction if chimney will remain intact or come apart due to negative G-load as it rotates during free fall. By the time it is past 45 degrees, the top is being pulled in tension. Many times they hit ground in several pieces. After impact, the chimney which is mostly air, is reduced to a narrow track of debris. CDI can drop a chimney in the exact spot they planned. Watching it from several camera angles is always a treat.
hard to believe the chimney held together, when it turns into dust so easily ... or is the concrete fragile? however, now i dont find concrete solid like a stone anymore :D :D :D ... and i am glad we dont have earthquakes in our country ... or is it because it is old? a new one wouldnt be destroyed so easily?
It's a matter of mechanic: In compression, vertical stress, it withstand very well. But like a tank, it withstand only if stress is equaly shared all around the structure. So if any part of the walls got a dent, it's a weak point where all constrain may coming, and it's when that happen that's everything collapse, because it could no longer bear such a force. So don't be worry about concrete strengh, that's also why we use rebars, to add shear resistance.
Large reinforced concrete chimneys like the one in this video vary in design but typically consist of two main 'parts': 1) One or more inner flues/liners that contain and carry exhaust gases up the structure. The flues/liners can be constructed from brick, r/c concrete, steel or fibreglass and are lined with acid-resistant materials to protect them from the corrosive effects of the exhaust gas. 2) An outer concrete shell, which is called a wind screen or wind shield. This serves to structurally support and protect the inner flue(s). There is usually a void between the inner flue(s) and outer concrete shell allowing internal access throughout the full height of the chimney structure for maintenance and servicing of aircraft warning lights, etc.
it's because the channel only recently enabled comments on their videos. for a while they were all disabled so I assume a lot of people just didn't bother to look
Most popular video from this channel (by far) isn't even a building demolition but rather a power station chimney being felled by a single set of charges.
So cool is that a demolition site why is there a pool leaning towards the wires it won’t That’s so cool nothing just demolished was a lot of smoke I love it nice videos

Idk no why, but the thumbnail looks like a cigarette.
Could someone explain the difference between a "chimney" and a "wind screen"? Thanks.

Be really cool to have a camera on top as it went down
How would that not destroy the camera J.D?
the camera would be nuked by the force of all that concrete and packed earth
That 2nd puff of dust is a second delayed charge or crushing of the concrete?
so what does CDI stand for?
Controlled Demolition, Inc.
I thought the thumbnail was a cigarette
Sameeeee
Same
Kindof
It’s color scheme and shape makes it resemble a cigarette
Gotta wonder just HOW many years of accumulated soot, ash, and other stuff were being pushed out in an instant there?
so many views but barely any comments

Chimneys could be repurposed as the cores of apartment or office buildings.

Sounds like you made it angry
Who said fire on the first one?
That's a big chimney. Why not use it as a radio and communications tower?
Its facinating to hear and see them fall but them and water towers are vaniching every day from our country.
what the height?
700 ft
Pretty sure I just saw someone put out the world's biggest cigarette.
CDI always does it right and puts on a good show. Produced a video for them in Boston quite a few years ago. Great people to work with and for! NH
Fred dibnah would have brought that down with a box of matches
Wonder if these guys ever heard of Fred Dibnah, old school demo!

Is there a chance you could include a little history about the structure being torn down ? I find that sort of stuff intresting
IDC stands for international demolition company
Strange how much they puff out when they are falling to the ground

Steps to reach this video:-
Step 1: open tower of power
Step 2: open Collapsing cooling tower
Step 3: open water tower demolition
Step 4: you're here
I got here from emergency demolition of a tower, then thermal damage to wind turbine, and then here
Are you calling a coal power station a“steam power station”. Because that is way less specific.
So cool is that a demolition site why is there a pool leaning towards the wires it won’t That’s so cool nothing just demolished was a lot of smoke I love it nice videos
