I find this story disturbing. If the elderly had the money to get their lawns done, they would. It borders on age discrimination. They have the right to live independently in their own homes, but they get bullied. I am starting to feel the pinch. There needs to be a resource for folks when they are overwhelmed with caring for their properties. Including broken windows, doors, dangerous steps....you get where I'm going with this? THANK YOU SO MUCH!! For helping out.
I'm 80 and having to live on less than $1000 monthly. I still pay for my lawn to be done but am having it done less often. It's a pinch to live on so little here in California... certainly the weather makes it better in my opinion than back east, but it is expensive. I can't imagine how people in colder climates pay for their heating. Alex, you are a gem... wish you were here.

And why don't the authorities ASK FIRST why things got so bad?? Many times, it is due to overwhelming life circumstances -- medical setbacks, death of spouse, severe poverty, etc!! If the authorities could suggest some reduced or free help, many of these seniors are afraid of strangers taking advantage of them in ruthless scams!!
