    I've been using this for years for winterizing my riding lawn mower. I've had the same cheap green MTD riding lawn mower sense 2010. Every year I put a strong mix (more than recommended) in the gas tank and let the engine run on it for the last strip of grass around the shed. Come springtime, I put the battery in (pulled and stored in garage) and crank it over. Only time I had issues with it, was when I was deployed, and my wife didn't winterize it. I would also like to note that each spring I change the oil, clean the air filter, check the spark plug, and grease the blade bearing. Take care of your machine and they will take care of you.

      @@craighellberg4366 Leaving a full tank of gas with a stabilizer will prevent moisture in the air that's left in thank to mix with the fuel and cause problems. Leaving it completely dry would dry out the rubber seal to the distributor cap. Also, it does help to run the engine a few times during the winter to keep things moving and oiled.

    Sta-Bil works.
    After a winter of living outside, a half tank of fuel was absolutely fine using Sta-Bil 360 @ 1.6 ml per liter. 16ml in a 10 liter can.
    The previous 2 winters, the fuel had water in it, because of Ethanol separation and I had to drain and clean the whole system.

    Stabil is the greatest stuff for your fuel. Use it all year round, not just for winter gas. I have used this for many years without any issues with dried out carbs or seals. My advice, for what it is worth, when storing summer equipment make sure the gas tank is full and the engine was run for a few minutes before putting it away for winter. In spring you will find that the equipment will start without any effort. For your winter fuel, again, use Stabil when you fill the gas container. Do it every time and you will have no problems with gas going stale. Love your vid's, Steve, keep them coming. I may be a bit mental but, I run my winter equipment every month during the summer and don't wait until my nuts are freezing to see if it will start when the snow starts to fly. Same with my standby generator. Stabil in every piece of equipment with an engine and you will see the difference. At eighty-five, I don't have a lot of time to faff about with stuff not working. Prevention is the key. Look after your equipment and it will pay dividends.

    Steve,
    I've been using Stabil year round for the last 10 years in my small engines, 71 F250, boat, tractor etc. I've used it in a generator that gets fired up once a year for a week during hunting. It fires up on the 1st or 2nd pull every year. Regular pm and stabil have keep it running strong. I use their product in my boat that over the winter, will sit for 5/6 mos and it too fires right up in the spring. During carb rebuild this past spring on a 23 yr old carb it was very clean inside.
    I believe it keeps the gas from turning to varnish and clogging up jets and other small passages in the carb/fuel system. With the regular pm I've not had any issues with fuel systems. Even in a 330 gal diesel tank for my standby genny, no issues with fuel or fuel systems. That fuel doesn't get ay movement unless I exercise the genny. (fuel return)
    Thanks for doing this video. Just confirmed what I was already thinking and seeing. It's a great product keeping me from reparing stuff that was simply sitting, and saving $.
    BTW, I've been watching many of your videos and like them. I just watched the Top 10 nasty comments one and was laughing my rear off. Still kills me that people can leave those kinds of comments. Didn't their mom teach em if they didn't have anything nice to say to SU?
    Keep up the great videos. Check out a beer called Alagash Brewing Co out of Maine. Their Tripel is excellent!

      @yappledapple3469 2 года назад +1

      @@neilwilliams2947 Neil,
      Yup, you can run it in the lawn mower right after. I add it to a 5 gal can of gas at the end of the season and run each item (chainsaw, tree saw, portable generator etc.) with a little of that in each tank until they run out of gas and they fire right up the next year. It works great for those things that sit unused or seasonal items that are only used part of the year.

    I always figured these stabilizer products were snake oil. But.....I went ahead and tried Sta-Bil one day and really liked it. I use it in my farm tractors, lawnmowers, rototiller, garden shredder etc. at the end of the year. Both two strokes AND four strokes. I know Steve recommends running a small engine dry but I don't. I add Sta-Bil to the tank and top it up, run it for a few minutes and put it in storage. I NEVER have trouble the following year.
    Will Sta-Bil really last two years? I don't know. I assume I'm good for one year. Good product!

    I live in South Florida and get Hurricanes! I don't know if I will get a storm this year. My generator can use 10 gallon a day if I load it down. The power can be out for days if there is a hurricane. When there is a storm warning everyone is running to get fuel,bottle water, and other things! I get my things early. Hurricane runs from June 1st to November 30th. But there there has been many storms in May and all the way through the new year. Steve, I’ve been using Sta-Bil for a long time. It works great in all my 2 stroke and 4 stroke equipment. I adopted a method that I no longer run the equipment dry and leave the stabilized fuel in the system. Like you, I put it in every tank. I have not had any issues with any of my winter or summer equipment. I am amazed how well my equipment starts when taken out of off season storage. As you say it’s a good practice to put it in every tank of gas at the time of purchase. If you wait the fuel begins to go stale and the end of the season is variable.

    PA LAWN GUY> Steve if you use just over twice the needed Stabilizer, or equivalent, it too will jell in the carb bowl after about 3 months. Have done that thinking more is better, but not true. We should stick with the recommended amount and for best results use ethanol free fuel. Infract, E/free is good by its self for 2 months here in PA.

  • @DieselMike
    @DieselMike 5 лет назад +3

    I used to use this stuff. Now I am just more cognizant of how long I keep gas laying around in my Jerry cans. I try and have as quick a turnaround in my small engine equipment as possible. If I can't remember how long it's been in the can, it goes into my car.
    When storing my gear for the winter (or my snowblower for the summer), the approach I now take is to run the engine dry of gasoline. Then pour some engineered fuel (i.e. Trufuel or equivalent) into tank. Start her back up to have all that high octane, ethanol-free goodness flowing through the carburetor. After a few moments, turn her off and store away. Now there's truly zero chance of stale, ethanol gas gumming up my engines.

    The only time that I drained the fuel tank of gas and then ran the Honda engine until It ran all of the gas out of the carb it would not start the next season. I had to take the carb apart and clean a jelly like substance out of one of the small fuel galleys so that the fuel could pass through! You can’t get ALL of the fuel out of the carb by running engine until it stops and the little bit that is still there then can harden up enough to stop fuel flow. I must get some soon ! !Took the carb from Toyta 4stroke motor apart it was completly rused up in the float chamber, just like the fuel filter was full of what looked like red garde soiil To clean the float chamber I plced it in boiling water, while heating ajar of white vinegar in a microwave ended up at 90 degree centigrade. I then dropped the heated float chamber nto the hot vinegar - let things bubble away for 30 mins and then the bowl was bright and shing inside and out.

    Steve, you might mention to take that small cap off when you are done so it drains back to the main bottle because if you don't it will act like a barometer and leak out the top all over your storage area.

    Used Stabil for many years. My generator has fuel that is at least 3 years old with Stabil added when I filled it. It starts every time on the 3rd pull. Unbelievable stuff.

    Okay here's what's going on fuel oxidizes meaning the oxygen from the fuel molecule breaks off and in the process changing the fuels properties and it's a form of turpentine also as the oxygen molecule is released it will break down your gaskets in your carburetor sure it will leave a little bit of a varnish but I think the gasket material is what deteriorates the most. SO gas stable will prevent the oxidation for prolonged period of time good stuff it does work I got to have it.

    Stevd, this video teaching us how and why to use Sta- Bil was absolutely eye opening and I loved it. Your videos are all so interesting, and I savor your deliveries so I can improve my own yard equipment. I hate to find my tools failing when I need to use them. Thank you so very much. Now I understand.

    I've been using it for 20 years. I treat the 5 gallon can as soon as I get it and put a date tag on it. I put it in my 55 gallon boat tank too and buy ethanol free gas. No more fuel problems period. When I first started using it, there was only one type. Now they have a dozen different kinds. Is there any difference?

    I use their green quick fix. I had my farm boss carb gummed up pretty bad since I forgot to winterize it. Works like a charm cleaning the carb without taking it apart. That ans seafoam, great stuff.

    Hello, Steve. My question is : Have you ever used Marvel Mystery Oil ? I have used it for some years now, and I am very surprised how it has improved the performance of my various engines. I have a Coleman generator which would only run for 3 hours on a tank of gas. When I began using Marvel Oil in the gasoline, the generator actually runs over 7 hours on a tank now. I was so happily surprised. I use it in my rototiller and it starts first pull every time. I would recommend it from the benefits I have experienced. Thanks.

    I have also used this for years as well . Never had problems with fuel . I always keep my fuel cans sealed , not open to the air . this also helps keep the fuel from going bad . Unless you use your fuel in less than a week , you should keep the containers closed .

    Preach Steve! “You never know when’s the last time your going to use this.” At my usage level STABIL runs me less than $12 a year for my lawn mower, chainsaw and blower. Why, Why Why did I wait 20 years to start using this year round? Cleaning 1 carb and trying to bring back an engine that has been ‘varnished’ takes me about an hour. If I’m paying myself $12 an hour for labor, it pays for itself if it only saves one engine a year. Awesome video.

    I put one ounce of Sta-Bil in one gallon of PNE gas. I also add one half of an ounce of Startron per gallon in my gas. In four cycle gas I add one ounce of Marvel Mystery Oil per gallon of gas. My generator has four gallons of gas in it since January 2016. I run it 15 minutes every month with no problems. I used to use Briggs AFT but it got to pricy.

    Steve,
    You caught me off guard at 3:07 and I had to watch it again. The smirk was funny too! It was hard for me to focus on the rest of the video while chuckling. Now about the fuel stabilizer, I've been adding Sta-Bil to my gas for years and have never had gas problems with my Stihl MS 361 and FS 250. Your videos have helped me a lot too (like a clogged spark arrestor screen on the FS 250).
