Wow, just watched the song performance and you outdid yourself again. I'll never be able to play at that level, but just watching you play fills my heart with joy.
This has to be one of your top interpretations, Sandra! As I listened to the intro play-through, I was trying to imagine you putting this together! And, wondering how long it took you😳. I learned Jeff Beck’s version way back in the day, and it was one challenging cover (capturing his sustain points and nuances)! But, at my current stage of enlightenment (haha), your study is an amazing insight. Superbly done - including the ending👏👏👍😁! Mingus was really something. Thanks for your insight here!
Thanks, Barry! ❤️ Tbh it didn't take me too long to write the arrangement. What I find is that people fail to understand the nature of this song. It's really just a twisted Blues 😊. Once you get the idea it makes decisions for substitutes easier.
Greetings from the USA. That was great! I always loved the Jeff Beck version of this one. Thanks, Sandra, I'm gonna get the tabs for this one for sure.
I got a bit lost and learning slowed right down without your usual quick explanation of the fingering of each chord (7,7,6,5 etc). Thanks for your great lessons though
I always enjoy your remarkable lessons, dear Sandra. The arrangements and the way you interpret the songs show the incredible genius that you are. Your explanations are consistently clear and helpful. Keep smiling, you look beautiful. ❤
Yes, good ol’ Jeff covered this on “Wired,” but it’s not quite a true jazz rendition. Jeff basically made it more attractive for people in the Rock camp…😉The Jazz versions have a different vibe..🥳 RIP CM & JB..
Thank you so much! I was goofing around at the very start with the Eb7#9 thing, I guess and accidentally did this: 5d, 6g, 4b, 2e. So, in other words, if using just 4 strings, except you picking some extra note off somewhere's to fill in, or whatever: mainly, the: 4a, 5d, 5g, 4b next the: 5d, 6g, 4b, 2e. Smooth!
this song has fascinated me, maybe just the title, or it being written for Lester Young Or a bass player who can compose something so complex Surprising that Joni Mitchell wrote lyrics and sang it The instrumental still seems best Your video helped me to understand the song a little better Great sounds you have chosen! Thank you
Yeah, I watched Joni Mitchell singing to this, and I wondered if the lyrics were already there or written later. Pretty cool! Pat Metheny playing there on Pork Pie Hat too.
Marvellous performance. Also a quite clear and sensitive explanation of chords and melody. Fantastic!! Greetings from Spain and lots of thanks for your tutorial, Sandra Sherman!!! (I will have work for a long time in order to learn this marvellous piece) 🍻
This is great! Thanks, Sandra. I just purchased the sheet music for this and three other jazz ballads you recently published - Round Midnight, Nature Boy, and My Foolish Heart - plus In Walked Bud, just in case I feel like stepping it up a bit. That's plenty to keep me busy for quite a while, but hope you will consider some more Monk (Ruby, My Dear?) and be-bop tunes (Hot House) in the future.
Yes, as Sandra Sherman says, Joni Mitchel made lyrics to this Mingus' composition. Her vocal perfomance with Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, Randy Brecker, Jaco Pastorius and Elias as a supporting band is ¡¡highly emotional!! This live performance can be watched in the Internet. Greetings from Spain!! 🍻
Wow! I slam my finger on the fretboard to get cool sounds, which I do sometimes. A sort of no strumming effect that's more even and louder without clutter. I had no idea they were called sus 9 chords! Thanks alot!
Ebm Pentatonic, but it doesn't fit over ankh chords. Jazz is way to compmex to only ist one scake. You would need to take lessons to solo over this song.
Amazing stuff! Do you also know Alex Machacek? He is from Austria too, but I don't know about Jeff Sipe, his phenomenal drummer that blasts off in another realm of drumming. Anyways, if Alex comes back to Vienna or somewhere, you've never seen anything like him. Case in point: the tune, "There's a New Sheriff in Town". Thank you very much for the amazing Charles Mingus song.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman You can't be serious! FOR ONCE, I managed to hit the proverbial jackpot. Once in several lifetimes, maybe, you hear a musician/composer that has a sound, feel, or whatever you call it, that's all their own. Alex is one of those very very few. When I first hear Alex Machacek on some kind of underground internet channel, it was like going off into a different zone of thought and guitar sound. I would like to fly, and land, of course (that's funny), to LOWW and hear him, and you, play. Please bring Jeff Sipe with you. Dream on, I guess. I will be on your channel for awhile learning this Pie Hat tune. This, in and of itself, is rare indeed.
OMG, I drifted away for a little bit and I come back to this. Killer arrangement on a favorite of mine, you keep dropping these diamonds...!!! Thank You! B-) (Buying the tabs...)

After everything, every channel, I've waded through in this country, yours is the most refreshing channel I've seen in a long time. In regards to such, after listening to everybody and their brother lecture at me in regards to John Coltrane's Giant Steps, I gave up and finally resorting to a tab, mainly 4 string chords, that I got off of the 911tabs website. Thank you very much for doing this..
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Thanks for taking the time to respond to me Sandra. Will do! Maybe your class on that could help me actually compose something I'm thinking in my head, for a change. Excellent channel you have here.
@GuitarVersum Sandra Sherman You're quite welcome. I learned Moonlight In Vermont from you and I love playing it. It was time to pay up! Please keep up the content, we need it!!
love your lessons! I started playing years ago but never got into jazz because it felt kinda scary (also because I never studied music theory) but your lessons are great! I really am improving and integrating new forms in my style, great work!

Very Bluesy, & yet Dissonant!
I really Appreciate Your interpretations to Chord melody.

Excellent job. Of course Jeff Beck and Joni Mitchell come to mind. Mostly I am not a fast learner, but this chord melody I mastered really quickly.
