The gill scene was brilliant writing. It made the character go full circle, being introduced as a arrogant rapist and ending as a scared victim.
This sets up great for the next season. They can go anywhere from here with the character.

@Jordan Moir People read as much as they ever did Jordan just not comics. Only around 25,000 people were reading it when it came out and it didn't run that long anyway. There was never any name recognition for the general public and in order for their to be outrage people have to care about the character. I'm sure some SJW's will rage about it and claim it was their favorite character but since no cares their outrage will go unnoticed. Just like the character in the comic.
Since the deep was under developed in the comic he is basically a blank slate for the TV show.

When it comes to the dolphin scene in the show, I sort of feel bad for The Deep.
He had started to question himself as a real hero and the way he was marketed as a "Savior of the Sea" while at the same time being the spokesperson at a Sea World ripoff. With locked up animals.
He wanted to do the right thing, release an innocent animal back into the wild where it belonged. But of course he failed spectacularly at it and thing were worse than if he hadn't even tried to help in the first place.
The show Deep has powers closer to Aquaman, but looks more like Namor, minus the ears and ankle wings.
He has powers closer to Namor and also looks like him in the show the deep is uselss, Aquaman is pretty much Poseidon he can Controll the see and gigantic see creatures , can fly due to magic, Can Controll earthquakes and make Tsunamis and submerge continents.

It was cool how when he was talking to the lobster or the dolphin on the show, you never hear the animals answer back, so you don't know if just The Deep can hear them, or if he is legit a crazy person that only thinks he can talk to water dwellers.

My favorite Character is Black Noir because he is so adorably awkward in the show yet such a sociopath in the comic book
I like they flesh out the heroes in a more grounded way in the show it’s done so well that it doesn’t feel like pointless filler and it’s actually enjoyable to see how these individuals deal with their way of life
The music could be a little less overpowering tbh

My favorite? The Female. I always did think of The Deep as a joke. And that scene with the gills was repulsive.
The gills scene was repulsive for a reason: it's an "accurate" representation of sexual assault, as accurate as fingerfucking gills can be.

Honestly the boys is by far the best show I’ve seen since daredevil season 1. I recommended it to my friends and they all loved it.
i like butcher. i like the revenge aspect, and the ability and willingness to get his hands dirty. plus i like his leadership skills in the show.

My favorite character is Homelander. More or less it's because of the way everyone perceives him. Everything becomes tense because of the possibility Homelander will find out.
My new favorite character from the boys is now the female actually, just because of how cool and mysterious she is, and her relationship with frenchie is sweet.

I know you didn't like the gills but that scene perfectly encapsulates his character arc. He said so himself to Starlight "we all had our fair share of torment when we first got here." In truth, it was just him being tormented. No respect from his team, his only friends are fish, he gets disgraced after wanting to do something that made him feel special, feel important. That something is actually two things, his taking advantage of Starlight, and the dolphin escapade. We then fast forward to his apartment, this woman calls him a freak and forces herself on him. While this is definitely a bit of poetic justice, this made me sympathize with him more than any other character in the series. Imagine putting yourself out there just to be branded by a freak, and the only ones who will respect you don't even have opposable thumbs. I haven't read the comics but I do hope for a redemption arc for him in the next season. He doesn't have to help Hughie and Butcher kill Homelander or anything, I just want him to find some self-respect and fulfillment.

The Boys, being the only superhero-related show I have watched this year, as nothing got quite my attention like this, I am looking forward to see more superhero-tropes being made fun of from pop-culture. I hope they promise these "superterrorists" to become silver age comicbook supervillains. And also, Black Noir should play more piano 🤙

One thing that gets me about black noir is that in the comics and in the show he is clearly less muscular and seems to fight less than Homelander but is portrayed to have equal power and skill.
I'm not looking at positive roletypes being torn down. If citizens don't aspire to be good kind decent people, it leads to a shitty society. I'm an atheist fan of Mr. Rogers myself. I aspire to treat other people like he did.

I am excited for the developments that occur in the second season and want to see if the deep potentially has a redemption arc. My favorite character is Frenchie.
I can see the Deep developing for the better in the show, provided he keep his distance from Starlight. Him reflecting on his actions and working to be a better person would be nice, not just for his own sake.
Starlight doesn't have to forgive the Deep, but being able to believe he is no longer a danger to her or others [including himself] could give her some peace of mind.

The deep's powers were more on water , , but he wasnt so important because 99% of crimes are on land very few involve water , do you see bank robberies in the ocean??or alien attacks in the sea??? Nope , thats why he was given the social media platform of doing commercials and adverts but inreality Vought didnt see his value thats why he was benched , most times and eventualy sent to Ohio for good regardless of what he did to Starlight he would still been benched .
So him doing japanese anime commercials doesnt mean hes a bad guy , hes just that guy no one really knows he exists, starlight had a crush on him at first because the Deep cared about saving marine life just as how starlight wanted to save people .

Design-wise here's my comparison:
Show: CW version of a young Aquaman
Comics: Mysterio
Favorite character is Mother's Milk. He's the only one (in the show that is), to seem to have a level focused head on his shoulders and trying his best to keep the others in line
Im not gonna lie i hope for season two he comes back with a dark attitude new dark costume hell give him the deep sea diver helmet just make him look menacing but he still hates himself and probably redeems himself with the final moment

In the show, The Deep does seem like a representation of Aqua Man from the Super Friends cartoon. He can live in the water and speak to sea life, but doesn't have super strength
certain superheroes in The Seven are representations of their DC counterpart, Homelander is a highly patriotic Superman, queen maive is a depressed/done-with-this-superhero bullshit version of Wonderwoman, and the Deep (as you already mentioned) is a less powerful version of Aquaman.
I like Black Noir.
We know practically nothing about him, yet the others are cautious when they're aroundhim.
Homelander, who's the equivalent of Superman, has a deferential attitude towards him.
That indicates to me that Black Noir maybe more dangerous than Homelander himself.

Frenchie is the one character I want to see a breakdown on. In the show he’s awesome. In the comic he’s even more psycho. So I definitely think he’s interesting as all hell

The Deep got more screen time than usual because some of the things other characters do is attributed to him.
For example there is a major plot point that Deep does in the show that Homelander did in the comic books.
But it works better this way because Homelander is a different kind of crazy in the show than he is in the comics.
I don't see this show version of Homelander doing what the Homelander in the comics did.
It's just not his style in the show. He's still a SOB, just not that kind of SOB.
Therefore they put a lot of that SOB stuff on to the Deep, which in turn also made him a bigger part of the story.
Which needed to be done because Black Noir only has brief Boba Fett appearances.
I love the way they do homelander in the show like at the start he seems nice then you see later how sinister he is

Huey is definitely my favorite member of The Boys. He's the most reluctant member, and has the biggest arch out of all of them. Plus, the guy is fucking brave. He went to save Mother's Milk and Frenchie all by himself, while The Butcher abandoned them to take care of his own agenda.
Honestly my favorite in the show is the Frenchie and Christ I can’t wait for season 2 of The Boys
I like how the show made the sups more morally grey, in order to make us resent Vought more than them.
Homelander isn't a pure sociopath and an abuser, but a manchild who never got the opportunity to be in an average person's mind, and keeps on making horrible decisions.
A-train isn't a coward and a pervert, but a performer whose head got so messed up by pressure he struggles to feel empathy.
And The Deep isn't just... some dude, but a confused guy with good intentions whose ethics got ruined by Vought
I'm not saying I disagree, but I find it kind of amusing that the shaming of his gills was a blatant comment on the cycle and normalisation of abuse, yet KI and everyone in the comments be like 'Yeah, those gills were super gross'. Just funny, is all.

I love the show, but I'm disappointed they didn't play Ocean Man at least once, in a scene with The Deep. Also that Dolphin scene was just edgy to be edgy.
It weird how the sort of made The Deep almost a central or at least secondary character in the show, but in the comic he's barely in it let alone talks or does very much
I loved The Boys season 1, and thought almost every character felt fully realized and realistic.

The reason The Deep slaps him there in particular is because Jack is super pissed about being thrown under the bus and starts yelling racial slurs at The Deep.

The part that people dont understand about aqua man is that in certain iterations he controls ALL WATER. like the only thing keeping him from ripping your own blood out of your body is just a mental block. The modern day version is extremely respected by manhunter and batman, two of the greatest warriors in all of dc because hes a ruthless strategic genius.
I hate him as a person, but hes one of my favorite characters in the show.

I think my favorite character is Black Noir, he such a twisted character and finally broke and just so he can achieve his goal, it’s crazy if you think about it, he made homelander think that he did all those things just so he can achieve his goal of killing him, and I think to myself what would happen, if Butcher wasn’t their and what would be the outcome, I feel like he could’ve been, such a twisted and complex character, like I would love to see how he would develop

I think someone mentioned this already but Deep is probably meant to represent celebrities that go on full mental breakdowns and, as of season 3, he seems to represent a victim of abuse, from perpetrator to victim.

Huey is my favorite character due to the fact that I went through certain experiences very similar to his that made me question everything. It put me through a mental Paradigm Shift. Something Huey battles with constantly throughout the series.

Billy Butcher is my favorite, just because he's a former CIA agent and I think the CIA is pretty badass
