Watched this match live on tv. Still in my memory - M.Amarnath's and Binny taking wickets, Yashpal's batting, the pitch invation. This was a game changing event in Indian Cricket history - the lagaan moment. The '83 finals with WI was the cherry on the top.

21:00 Umpire holding wicket in an attacking position, after Crowd invasion and then all fielders moving offside. This was never seen before. Followed by Patil's smile when he saw fielders moving offside and Kapil paaji's smile, running back after victory. It is priceless.

@@artram1655 not really as one bowler was accused of using grease. eng have had their own controversies over the years.
aussies are quite fair barring that incident. why would they do it anyway, it was uncalled for. aussies never allow a doosra as it cant be bowled without chucking!
      pak have had their issues.
all nations have been acccused of extremely biased umpiring barring english( even they have been but not that rampant)
actually india never really had any incident if i recall. a biased umpiring but umpire has sided with opponents hating their own( tie test, preparing pitches to oppose authorities-2004 and 2012 trips)
only once tendulkar was pictured picking up the seam and bhajjis racial abuse.
but those days picking seam was quite normal unless you did not scratch on it. it is just that cameras were not there( ramiz raja said they used bottle caps to scratch the seam). indians deliberately let the ball roll on the ground or through on the ground to scratch it up.
I always threw the ball in the air. i hated it to pitch on the ground. scratched ball speed is terribly slow( if you played on mats)
so nobody is really a saint. but nice to see him denying the catch if he is not clear in his mind. it is impossible to tell from such a far angle.

I remember watching this game staying awake all night and then not sleeping after the match because of the happiness and having my predictions come true wow what a feeling. we had many allrounders those days and two of them didn't even were used as bowlers srikanth and sandeep patil. This team had one or two at least one sure parchi guy Kirti Azad who made it to the team at the last minute without any noteworthy performances under his belt during that year and even in the past at the cost of an upcoming prodigious talent L.Sivaramakrishnan which was rather unfortunate.

"miss those days when players had no need to worry about being hurt by fans/crowd" absolutely. We worshipped our sporting heroes. No Indian would have hurt a single hair on the head of Srikkanth, Shastri, Gavaskar. Had anybody done so, the rest of the fans would have dealt with him.
Even today, which Indian fan will countenance another 'fan' creating disturbance for Virat or Jinx or Che? We will put that fan in his place.

Yashpal Sharma and Mohinder Amarnath won us this World Cup.
Mohinder Amarnath was an excellent swing bowler who took crucial wickets at crucial stages and scored high quality runs as a middle order batsman saving his team.
Yashpal Sharma was an excellent player against fast bowling and he was a very attacking batsman who dared to play pull shots and hook shots against the fast bowlers.
    He was an underrated batsman.
So this World Cup belonged to Mohinder Amarnath (allround performance), Yashpal Sharma (semifinal knock which took us to the finals), Kapil Dev (175*) & others like Madan Lal, Roger Binny (crucial breakthroughs).
Balwinder Singh Sandhu was remembered for his dismissal of dangerous Gordon Greenidge in the finals🙂
But again, it was Mohinder Amarnath in the finals..... 👏👏👏👏
Mohinder Amarnath was a product of Nepotism (son of Lala Amarnath), but still Mohinder Amarnath proved it wrong by giving outstanding performances.
Mohinder Amarnath had some issues with the selection committee and he was knocked out of the team.
Mohinder Amarnath famously termed the BCCI selectors as "Bunch of Jokers" after he was dropped from the team.
Mohinder Amarnath was a genuine alrounder India has ever produced as he was technically a much better batsman than Kapil Dev.
Mohinder Amarnath was an excellent player of hook shots.
India could never produce a genuine alrounder like Mohinder Amarnath again till date (match winning medium pacer/match winning batsman).

The players were less agile, but they kept the spirit of the game at the highest level
Thin bats, time and placement meant how you skimmed your boundaries out of the bowler.

Last ball logic is awesome. All filders on off not to save a single, but so that they can get to the pavillion faster ( it was on off side). Batsmen and Bowlers did not even care to check if the run was scored. They just dashed as fast as they could. The grin on the batsmen's face before the ball was bowled was hilarious to watch.
