Thanks for the review, Cuckoo! I was in the market for a mixer just a few months ago. I needed something portable, something small, and something that would allow BT audio and also some basic EQ and effects. This mixer was very high on my list of potential mixers. However, (and I know you addressed this up front) it is very expensive. I finally went with the Behringer Flow 8, which has many of the same capabilities, and although not as small as the TX-6, it has a small form factor but not too small. It has memory recall, and presets. It just works. And it is $200 compared to 1K. You can't put it in your pocket, but you also can't really put the TX-6 in your pocket when it's all connected to your gear. They have externalized a lot of connectivity in the TX-6. Everything is expected to be 1/8" inputs, and that isn't exactly practical for a lot of outboard gear, requiring an adapter and possibly splitter cabling, or adapter cables. This is a really sexy unit, no question. It speaks the language of design and form, and it's a beautiful piece to look at. Would I like someone to gift me this? Sure! As for how practical that is in real world terms, I guess it depends on the application. I found it to be just too much to ask price-wise, but others will want to pay that price for it's beauty and design. To each their own, I guess.
They are units that are considered cheap at this price that do half of what this do, this unit is cheap, find me a 12 channel USB C interface with FX cues, aux and midi capabilities at this price. Some settings could be adjustable, such as the compressor A/R and delay tails, but on the other hand, the same thing applies to most other mixers. But I sure wish TE would give us an update for adjusting these settings. Some observations and first impressions. 1. The battery and portability are a gift from heaven. Of course there are products like Tascam's Model 12, but I'm kind of thankful that there were no units available in Europe and I stumbled into this one instead. 3. I've had a good fun with it and new ideas coming (for me). For example: A bass connected to TX-6, which listens the beat and then sends the midi clock to other devices. Just play the bass varying the pace and other instruments follow the natural speed of my playing. Also the effect tails are synced perfectly, including those for my bass.

I love their products but I always wait for you, RedMeansRecording, Loopop, or other creators to review them first because of how expensive TE gear is!
Agreed. this thing looks way TOO small to use for long sessions. also, I don't want to think about whether or not my multiple 3.5mm cables fit togetheror not. that's such a dumb thing to have to think about
If they'd made the mixer, and screen, twice as big, nobody would've complained that it was too big. People would still complain about the price of course, but nobody would say it's too big. But as it is now, many people complain that it's too small. That's why I feel confident to say they really DID go overboard in making everything as small as physically possible. This is definitely for people recording on the go, and it seems so easy to lose/steal, at this size/value ratio.
I've got the TX-6 and while generally it's a marvel of fitting lots of features into a teeny tiny package, it suffers a couple of massive problems that make it incredibly frustrating. One is that the multi-purpose pots are linear / analog instead of digital / infinite, so if you need one pot setting to be 0 and the next setting to be 100, you have to crank it all the way round when jumping between settings. If the pot is at zero but the setting page you're on has that effect set to 70, all it takes is the slightest breeze for the setting to suddenly jump to zero - same problem as the Pocket Operators, and it completely ruins the user experience in a professional (especially performance) environment. You can't just nudge an EQ or effect up or down a touch on the fly, you've got to crank the pot round to wherever it was for the last page of settings, which is awful to do with those tiny heads, and leads to accidental nudging of the neighbouring pots, leading to an infinite cycle of fixing sudden sound problems.
OMG this is insane, I do a lot of fly dates with 2ch of mic and 2-4ch of instruments and was using a large X32 rack which I could check, this goes in my pocket! I was looking at SoundDevices 833 to lighten my rig, do you know of any other small mixers that might offer pre's?? EQ is a must!
They need to make this as a midi controller with mini midi to full size midi adapters in the box. This would be INCREDIBLY useful with something like an Empress effects Zoia as a synth player.
@@DarkTrapStudio I know, but I mean as a standalone midi controller because I have no need for a mixer which would be a waste of my money for what I need.
@@JohnnyADi Standalone midi controller ? I don't understand, midi is for connecting to something making a sound ? @@MattiasHolmgren yes, the Bluebox really lacks an audio interface, it's really the feature I'm waiting for before buying it. The Tx6 is amazing but I don't have the budget 😢
Hello Cuckoo, I’m new to TE products, Just ordered a Op1-Field! Was wondering if your old Op1 tutorial still would apply accurately to the new Op1-Field? I’m a complete beginner to the Op1, Will most likely follow along. If there are a lot of new added features, was hoping you could consider making a new tutorial on the Op1- Field! Thank you.
I was watching this video the whole time to see if it had preamps. No preamps. 😢 On the upside, it acts as 12 inputs at 32 bit, 48khz resolution line level audio interface. 😁 Also wish this had ADAT or Coaxial output to expand my audio interface. Oh I'm wondering if the inputs and outputs are decoupled. If it's decoupled I may buy this.
This has interested me for a while. Glad you finally did this video! This will help me decide if i really want it or not. I might get a bestie for now just because i dont have the cash for this guy yet
wow....this could be my perfect set for making streetmusik... two controler one of these mixer... and a korg volca...hmmm but its a dream for me cause iam homeless...so its far away..... but nice devices!
Yeah for real. The OP-1 field sounds so much better in my opinion. And the move into Stereo and many-fold increased memory is making a big difference. I'm nostalgic about the original OP-1 design (10/10 in my opinion), that I think will stand the test of time compared to the OP-1 field design (8/10?). But hey, there's nothing I can do to change the design 😅 It is what it is.
Great video! Was never truly interested in this product till watching. Have to ask a question unrelated to the mixer, what camera(s) are you using to shoot your videos, they look great.
@aardvarkmindshank Awesome! I appreciate you finding that 🙏 Reminds me quite a bit of the "Stutter" effect on the Deluge or the "Tape" track on the OP-Z, but it's definitely smoother than the Deluge's current implementation. Maybe we'll see that improve with the new open-source effort 😉
I know I will get heaped with hate for saying this - but this looks a lot like Mac computer hardware in terms of the beautiful machined case. Very fancy.
Thanks! The T-shirt is likely not in production anymore. It’s my favourite tee, that I got from a sale from Maharishi a few years ago. Maharishi is my favourite clothing brand. I always try to keep an eye out for end of season sales in the stores that carry the brand. High quality design and fabrics.
I freakin love the TX-6 with one exception. Not sure if it's my MacBook or the TX-6 but it keeps distorting the sound randomly when I try playing RUclips videos with it as the main audio interface. Not sure if anyone else is having the same issue? It works perfectly in stand-a-lone mode though.
How do we go about sidechain compression with this device? Can we select the source? If not, is there any hope of that feature being added in the future? Thanks :D
Great video thank you!! I’m trying to run external fx via the aux send/return - I’ve got it working except I can’t figure out how to apply those fx to the usb audio I’m sending from my daw as it isn’t assigned to one of the 6 channel inputs. I’m sure I’m overlooking something but can’t think what
For me it’s kind of the opposite. I think it’s the best product that they’ve ever developed. It’s all personal preference and perception though. They’re not a huge company, so they can’t develop too many lineups at the same time, and please everyone. Let’s see what their other lines will be in the future. It’s not only the Field lineup from here on, even if this is where their focus lies right now.
Can you loop tx-6 and op1. So, out of tx-6 into op1 and out of op1 to tx-6 ? I ask wondering if tx-6 could be used as an fx processor for vocals…that into op1 to loop said vocals, and then that out back into tx-6 so that could go out into monitors or venue.
@ 5:41 I wish you would have went into more detail about the differences in each of the options. I get that stereo takes a stereo signal in. I get that mono merged the left and right together. But what is split? In split can you control the left and right independently of each other eventually making them their own independent channel while sharing an output? Any help on clarification we be appreciated. 😊
confused me at first too...in split mode, the pan setting on a given track will determine the relative balance between the L and R (i.e. 1st and 2nd) inputs. Pan affects not only the mix you are hearing off the device's mixer/hardware monitoring function but also what your DAW receives
Didn't know TX-6 was THIS cool I think that this is perfect tool for you. Those glitches and crunchyness are gonna be perfect for what you do Where's CSE TX-6? Cuckoo Special Edition TX-6
Hey Cuckoo I recently got a TX-6. You didn't explain the mic input on the cue bus. It's designed for headphones with a mic. I got a little breakout cable that split headphone and mic and got a rode lavelier mic to work. I couldn't get a dynamic mic to work with any adapters yet.. Do you think it's possible??
TE needs to make a model 2x the size, for 1/4 in balanced inputs and outputs, with 1 channel including xlr in and phantom power/mic preamp. i have no interested in spending that much on mini cable inputs, but a high quality small format 1/4 inch input mixer? I'd probably be tempted. Throw in analog filter, analog bucket brigade delay, and a small real spring reverb. Make it something special
tbh the form factor is too small, they could have made it slightly wider and longer to the size of a phone and it would still be very portable and much more practicable
@@JohnGauge790 Seriously :) Actually, you can get 13-channels to USB thumb drive if you use the under-utilized cue microphone input - and that input has its own FX bus (reverb/delay only)
Thanks. Multitrack is a no, as of right now. One of my first feedbacks to TE actually. I think it’s entirely possible to do it, but I don’t think they’re focusing on that right now.
@@eliaswarg6818unfortunately, the solution that TE has offered is pairing the TX-6 with the TP-7 for 12 channel multitrack recording. This makes me think that they are less inclined to add multitracking to USB stick to the TX-6 as a feature in a future firmware update, even if it is technically possible. I guess we can still multitrack to a DAW via the TX-6, but yeah I'd really like to be able to multitrack to USB stick too.
Cuckoo, I just don’t get it: the main function of this is to mix a live performance. But in this case one would look for a big, comfortable interface. So it’s contradictory: the compactness and size is made for “on the run” traveler, but traveler is not a band or performer, he is rather a note taker, ideas sketcher, composer… I truly feel that my tiny Tascam (the one with pan pots on each channel) is far more superior with its infinite bouncing and guitar, line and mic entrances…
Tascam has great portable sound recorders and mixers etc. They have really great options. If you don't see any attraction or point in the TX-6 then that's great. It's not for you, so nothing to worry about. I think most TX-6 users simply love it to death. Me included. Everything is so incredibly elegant, and it sounds great. For me, I usually set up the mix, and then I don't need to be very active with the mixer. A little mute work or volume nudges here and there. But for very active mixer work it's no doubt more convenient with a bigger hands-on experience.
@@truecuckoo I sense what you are saying Cuckoo, there must be a strong factor of good feel that comes from the quality and slickness of this mixer, and I never thought of it before but: music is made by feeling so this must contribute greatly. Also, I figured, such a device may be useful in the rare case of electronic/ambient music street musician, small size and many inputs matter (that’s what said the Vicar to the Actress..😝)
Hi, nice review. I'm thinking of getting one of these to mix my analog synth and digital synth into my DAW but I've got an existing audio interface that I need them to go into. Does that mean my analog synth will get converted to digital to mix in this then converted back to analog to input to the audio interface which then converts back to digital? If so thats going to ruin the sound quality right? I see I can use this as an audio interface instead but it's only 48khz whereas my focusrite audio interface is 192khz
So do I understand this correctly: you can send stereo channels out of Ableton and route them individually to the aux bus for external fx? If so, this is very cool.

😂😂 I thought you were joking, it’s like that stone henge skit in spinal tap !
Would love a firmware update to make the .wavs multitrack like on the new field recorder.
You’re a wizard and the sheer amount of features on this is amazing!
You my man are wonderful, wow, they could have given us wavform view to see the audio, and even if it was a little bigger, with mic pres then it could be cheaper, this little is good but a liitle bigger to have real use like vocals, guitar etc, maybe one with a aw like, similar to the Akai MPC this guys are more intelligent, just see how easy it is to use, just watching,
Akai are so weird with their work flow and we competition. kudos to you for this in depth video on this magic little box
Lovely device, would make a great sub mixer for some of my drum machines for example.
I dont think my sausage fingers could cope with these knobs
Lol... it is pretty small for sure 👊🧡👍
This is an issue TE should have thought harder about... most synth nerds are overweight and have sausage fingers
The Apple of instrument companies.
It is serendipitous that I just ordered my TX-6 earlier this week and now came across a full Cuckoo walkthrough of it! This is great!
I really hope TE sends you the TP-7 and CM-15 as well to demo! I love their products but I always wait for you, RedMeansRecording, Loopop, or other creators to review them first because of how expensive TE gear is!
I am very impressed with that piece of kit, really nice.
This thing but 50-100% bigger would be sooo much more useful. Still tiny, yet actually fun to use. With its size it‘s a fingertip cramp show.
Agreed. this thing looks way TOO small to use for long sessions. also, I don't want to think about whether or not my multiple 3.5mm cables fit togetheror not. that's such a dumb thing to have to think about
If they'd made the mixer, and screen, twice as big, nobody would've complained that it was too big. People would still complain about the price of course, but nobody would say it's too big. But as it is now, many people complain that it's too small. That's why I feel confident to say they really DID go overboard in making everything as small as physically possible. This is definitely for people recording on the go, and it seems so easy to lose/steal, at this size/value ratio.
agree....very powerful mixer with the usual beautiful design but unnecessarily small....100% bigger would have been more practical.
I love this little machine! I use it a lot for its drone synth capabilities on the go. Lots of fun.
Love the TX-6, great demo and tutorial! 🎉
Thanks mate 🙏🏼
he looks exactly how i imagine a teenage engineering aficionado
Nice video Cuckoo! It’s tempting by seeing this vid to buy the device myself 😮
You sound great! 😁
Stunning review work! Only thing I'm missing is how it performs on ASIO drivers.
Is there no way to change that in the settings?
i was really impressed with how great the FX sound!
Same. I've got a Tascam Model 12 but the FX are totally shit. I might sell it and get this
OMG this is insane, I do a lot of fly dates with 2ch of mic and 2-4ch of instruments and was using a large X32 rack which I could check, this goes in my pocket! I was looking at SoundDevices 833 to lighten my rig, do you know of any other small mixers that might offer pre's?? EQ is a must!
And next week: A full Steinway & Sons Piano sized down to a box of matches by Teenage engineering
They need to make this as a midi controller with mini midi to full size midi adapters in the box. This would be INCREDIBLY useful with something like an Empress effects Zoia as a synth player.
It is via Usb
@@DarkTrapStudio I know, but I mean as a standalone midi controller because I have no need for a mixer which would be a waste of my money for what I need.
@@JohnnyADi Standalone midi controller ? I don't understand, midi is for connecting to something making a sound ? Standalone would mean that it has battery and/or that it would have sound samples also which this thing does. Also I found you can use it as a midi device in bluetooth.
But yeah the price is interesting if you use the features if you don't it become a fancy gadget
amazing valuable video tutorial dear Cuckuu! It has inspired me a lot to consider to buy this item. Willl let you know when i am able to and will be happy to use your affiliate link to be of more support . You are a true musical creative inspirator...as i always keep in mind how you started and the amazing journey you have walked already to be where you are now and what an valuable inspirator you have become for many people.
Sending you kind healthy musical greetings from out of Finland,
Bastiaan Anthonie Baaij
Lovely breakdown Cuckoo! Looking into grabbing this for my small synth desk setup.
The 1010 Bluebox no longer suits you?
@@Eriser I love the Bluebox and it still works beautifully but it does not do transfer ober USB…and it would be fun to experiment with the TX-6 too. But I dunno if TE fixed so we can record / stream (multitrack) all inputs at the same time through USB to computer?
@@MattiasHolmgren yes, the Bluebox really lacks an audio interface, it's really the feature I'm waiting for before buying it. The Tx6 is amazing but I don't have the budget 😢
@@Eriser as least the bluebox could have UsB file transfer like all other equipment. Wonder if its limited by hardware to only go as usb power port!?
Hello Cuckoo, I’m new to TE products, Just ordered a Op1-Field! Was wondering if your old Op1 tutorial still would apply accurately to the new Op1-Field?
I’m a complete beginner to the Op1, Will most likely follow along.
If there are a lot of new added features, was hoping you could consider making a new tutorial on the Op1- Field!
Thank you.
I love RUclipsrs that put an ad every 2 minutes.
Glad to hear that. The Bestie is fantastic too. Gain. Mute. Feedback. Often that’s all you need.
wow....this could be my perfect set for making streetmusik... two controler one of these mixer... and a korg volca...hmmm but its a dream for me cause iam homeless...so its far away..... but nice devices!
This is cheap for what it pack, If this can hold up in term of conversion and monitoring next to a good interface I will get it.
Cuckoo I want to sample your voice effects😂😂😂 they are unique hahahah
Hey Cuckoo, do you really prefer the field to the original op1? i wonder if i should upgrade
❤@@truecuckoo
Great video! Was never truly interested in this product till watching.
Have to ask a question unrelated to the mixer, what camera(s) are you using to shoot your videos, they look great.
with a $1200 price tag i cant see how you can justify this. Might as well get a full size mixer
What is this? A mixer for ants!?
~DJ ZooLander
Love that phrasing option. That is so damn cool. I wish my Deluge had that.
Do you have a timestamp for the phrasing option you were talking about? Maybe I missed it.
@@alex-r-teah, I found it at 12:40. It’s more like a pitch bend of the sample I suppose. FRZ I think it’s called… maybe short for freeze.
Sorry I’m near sighted and I have no money, sir 😂😂😂😂
god i am losing my mind that is so cool
Me: oh look, a cute, cheap, tiny little mixer I could use for my tiny set up.
Also me: *checks price* 😨💀
I know I will get heaped with hate for saying this - but this looks a lot like Mac computer hardware in terms of the beautiful machined case. Very fancy.
It's clearly targeting the same kind of custumer as Apple.
5:35 "uh man, i can feel it, something is in my main input🥵"
amazing! Also your shirt is amazing and I'm dying to know where you got it
Thanks! The T-shirt is likely not in production anymore. It’s my favourite tee, that I got from a sale from Maharishi a few years ago. Maharishi is my favourite clothing brand. I always try to keep an eye out for end of season sales in the stores that carry the brand. High quality design and fabrics.
this was super helpful!
brilliant thanks
I freakin love the TX-6 with one exception. Not sure if it's my MacBook or the TX-6 but it keeps distorting the sound randomly when I try playing RUclips videos with it as the main audio interface. Not sure if anyone else is having the same issue? It works perfectly in stand-a-lone mode though.
How do we go about sidechain compression with this device? Can we select the source? If not, is there any hope of that feature being added in the future? Thanks :D
I would love to see this setup on a train or plane, seems possible!
Great video thank you!! I’m trying to run external fx via the aux send/return - I’ve got it working except I can’t figure out how to apply those fx to the usb audio I’m sending from my daw as it isn’t assigned to one of the 6 channel inputs. I’m sure I’m overlooking something but can’t think what
I watched the whole thing.
That product release was my ick moment for TE as a whole.
It was the table for me 😂😂😂
@@tompoyntonand the cargo pants!
On another note, why hasn't the OP-1 come down in price. Still twice as high as it should be.
For the guitar , how do you do for not having impedance issues on the tx-6 ?
Didn't know TX-6 was THIS cool
I think that this is perfect tool for you. Those glitches and crunchyness are gonna be perfect for what you do
Where's CSE TX-6? Cuckoo Special Edition TX-6
Hey Cuckoo I recently got a TX-6. You didn't explain the mic input on the cue bus. It's designed for headphones with a mic. I got a little breakout cable that split headphone and mic and got a rode lavelier mic to work. I couldn't get a dynamic mic to work with any adapters yet.. Do you think it's possible??
It's just a pleasure to watch your video... Your the Bob Ross of Musical gear Videos 😊
Make it something special
awesome cuckoo! what is that mobile interface for your mic (from entrance)? can't find it anywhere
Thanks. It’s linked in the description. They don’t have widespread distribution. It’s called MicPort Pro.
what a wonder machine
tbh the form factor is too small, they could have made it slightly wider and longer to the size of a phone and it would still be very portable and much more practicable
Can you record all 12 channels simultaneously? Great demo and now I understand the device and its price.
There’s currently no on-device multitrack recording. But as an audio interface you can record all 12 tracks at the same time.
You can record all 12 channels to USB drive as a 2-channel mixdown
@@pianobryguy seriously?
@@JohnGauge790 Seriously :) Actually, you can get 13-channels to USB thumb drive if you use the under-utilized cue microphone input - and that input has its own FX bus (reverb/delay only)
Nice vid as always. No multitrack onto thumb I guess..?
Thanks. Multitrack is a no, as of right now. One of my first feedbacks to TE actually. I think it’s entirely possible to do it, but I don’t think they’re focusing on that right now.
@@truecuckoo That would be a gamechanging feature on an already gamechanging peace of hardware. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
How do you think it performs as an audio interface…. if you had to compare it against something entry-level like a SSL2/ Apollo Twin?
can one set up automation within the unit for things like cutoff or res?
Yes you can
TE makes gorgeous elite stuff, making look their product owners the biggest fault
you could easily make this into a mini live dub rig
This is pretty wild and unique for small set ups, portability, decent quality & funtionality. Great video as always brother! Much love 🧡👊🇨🇦👍🧡
Wow for the device and Wow for the tutorial
Thanks Carlos! I appreciate hearing that 🙏🏼
