Palacio de Bellas Artes gives Maria Callas a farewell in the Mexican style "La golondrina" (1952)

The final ovation, preserved on tape with the performance, offers a vivid record of the affection and esteem in which the twenty-eight-year-old soprano was held by the Mexican public and her fellow musicians. She had appeared for three consecutive seasons at the Palacio de Bellas Artes... and it was known she probably would not
return the following year. The orchestra greeted her appearance on stage with a drum roll. As the musicians began to play ‘‘Las golondrinas’’, the chorus walked on stage and joined the standing audience... The radio announcer, in a running commentary for the listening audience, explained that Callas was kneeling on stage in

Es una grabación histórica de la que los mexicanos deben sentir orgullo.
Estar en tres temporadas en ese bellísimo teatro con la Divina es algo que muy pocos escenarios tienen a su haber!!!!!!

C'est fantastique l'accueil du public Mexicain .Elle a dû être bouleversée.
Les trois saisons où elle aura chanté à Mexico auront sans doute marqué le public et le grand théâtre de Mexico.Elle y a chanté des rôles difficiles en réalisant à chaque fois des exploits inédits qui ont dû impressionner les spectateurs.

I get so emotional each time i listen to it... she kneeled and had tears running down her face.. so happy that the Mexican people knew how to bid her farewell! I wish i lived back in those days..:(

That's so true, Dana. It is claimed that the kinescopes were destroyed (in a fire or an earthquake?). But maybe one day we will have a wonderful surprise ...

We must also hope that Pablo Berruti (Divina Records) will soon publish the original recording of this evening! The sound quality should be much better than what we currently have ...

No ha habido ninguna vez que asista a alguna función en el Palacio de Bellas Artes que no piense en todas las veces que María cantó ahí, y sobre todo en esta noche final con semejante ovación con fanfarrias y "las golondrinas"... se fue a conquistar el mundo de la ópera para nunca más volver a pisar este hermoso y máximo escenario mexicano :( Dichosos los que pudieron asistir a esta función o a alguna otra en Bellas Artes con María como prima donna!

Como me encantaría haber estado ahi, en la traviata, en armida, en el agudo de Aida, en todas las presentaciones de la Divina en mexico, me encantaria que existieran videos de esas presentaciones.
