    My former boss renovated the empty garage behind his restaurant for 6 homeless people to sleep and gave them left over food at least once a day. one of them escaped from his abusive parents, a woman and her little girl went bankrupt after her husband fell sick and died, an elderly couple who lost their home to pay for the wife's medical bill, and a gentleman with his dog who holds a master degree in engineering. They just need a little help to get back to their feet again, and guess who shut down the garage : the police. Apparently they received a complain from some 'good citizen who were concern' for their safety. The homeless didnt even bother anyone, and they were always polite and clean! My boss ignore the warning even when the county threatened to close down his restaurant. Imagine being the richest country on earth yet they let their own citizen suffer without help. FYI : The people he helped finally manage to get back on their feet again, and my boss still open his garage as a shelter.

    I have lived and traveled around the world, as a civilian and in the military. Each time I returned to the U.S., I was shocked and saddened seeing homeless on the streets, especially decorated veterans. Billions of dollars annually is spent on foreign aid and wars. Homelessness could be stopped, by reducing the military industrial complex budget by 20% annually!

      You are so right!!! Space Programmes and Wars are also draining the country of all the funds needed to help feed and house these people. They are American Citizens, and this should not be happening. there is such a large gap between rich and poor. The second a person loses their job, they lose their health benefits and all the other things they need to survive. I am saddened that America calls itself a top country, yet there are MANY countries that are not this destitute !!! When it comes to being poor, America knows how that feels.
      (I am from the UK). no one starves in the UK and there are facilities for homeless people to have somewhere to stay. They do of course have rules. The local councils keep properties back particularly for homeless, and the rent is paid for. We have many charities that help out. The worst thing is the veterans - those who would have given their lives for their country,
      America appears to see them as a stigma instead of seeing them as brave men and women that went out there for the purposes of keeping everyone safe!!! I cannot even imagine how they must feel, coming back to this sort of life, those that came back injured, appear to be forgotten about, do they get their health care free for life??? They should do - they got those injuries while fighting for their country - the very least a veteran could have is lifetime health care, when they return!!!

    I've been homeless for nearly 20 years. Reoccurring job losses set me back 15 years. I tried earning a degree to improve my situation. However, I began to age and only hired for low wage retail jobs paying not enough to afford rent. I've been fortunate to live with relatives who were very emotionally abusive and cruel. I applied for a section8 voucher in 2015 and placed on a waiting list. Guess what? After 7 years, I finally got my voucher. I feel numb. Really numb because I've been conditioned to homelessness. Now I have to reprogram my thinking. I am thankful. I'd never wish homelessness on anyone. Homelessness can chip away your self worth.

      I know it's been 7 months since you posted this. I hope life is much better and full of blessings, no matter how small or large.
      And you're worth everything. Believe this. KNOW this.
      No matter what life threw at you for all those years, it's obvious you NEVER gave up, even when I'm sure there were countless times you wanted to. I'm sure you DID momentarily give up also now and then, just threw your hands up and said, "I'm over this bullshit. I'm done."
      Yet here you are. This proves the inner strength you have and have always possessed. You didn't let anyone else take it from you; you didn't let yourself take it away from you.
      That is POWERFUL.
      No matter what, always keep finding something to fight for and never give up. And when life throws a curve ball, or decides to trip you up (as life just loves to do now and then), just remember that inner strength and rememeber this:
      You got this.
      It don't got you.

      I felt that. I've been homeless the last 3 years. At first I thought it would be easy to build out. I've learned that I'm not the smartest person, but at the same time I was never prepared for this. I'm proud of the hurdles I have been able to jump, so to speak. It's just that things continue to just keep happening. I've had jobs and lost them for stupid reasons. I had a roof over my head 9 months ago to run into someone who sold the house and bailed with my money. For me karma might get her in the end but realistically if you're able to rip the ground under a man's feet and get away like that then what is the justice? Only God knows. I've lost my confidence. My hobbies wouldn't ever seem worth pursuing again in the event I got on my feet again. It's hard to day sober just because I don't care anymore. And the truth is I didn't trust people before so it's been very difficult to move forward and just get taken advantage of again. I don't feel as if it's that I'm not a hard worker. I'm just sick of working two jobs and having them conflict with eachother and lose one. I'm also sick of being hired and fired the same day.
      Everyone has lost respect for me. I've lost respect for myself. And I don't know how to turn it around.
      I've gotten into legal trouble and it's dumb because I've never been in trouble.
      I feel like I can turn it around but it's a every second of life grind and I feel like I get stressed out and jealous when I see another having a good time.
      I do feel like it can be turned around. God is always with us in the darkest hour of the day.
      I just hope one day I can help people because that's what's really important.

    Currently individuals living in cars due to partial homelessness result from a complex interplay of factors. High housing costs relative to income, stagnant wages, and income inequality drive this issue. Job loss, weak social support, medical expenses, evictions, and lack of affordable housing also contribute, while systemic problems and inadequate policies further perpetuate the phenomenon.

      If anything, it'll get worse. Very soon, affordable housing will no longer be affordable. So anything anyone want to do, I will advise they do it now because the prices today will look like dips tomorrow. Until the Fed clamps down even further, I think we're going to see hysteria due to rampant inflation. You can't halfway rip the band-aid off.

    We Americans need to "change" our way of thinking. The solution is so easy! We need to glorify "family staying together as a team" to rely and count on each other over "being alone and independent at 18". The concept of having to be on your own by 18 is so stupid! You almost never see people in other countries like Italy or Spain homeless because family members all live together and they live in homes that were paid off hundreds of years ago by their grandparents. And these people have gone from generation to generation without anyone being unable to be "independent". Kids become adults that take on the responsibilities of raising their own kids and caring for the elderly. Never a problem for thousands of years. So, there is no pressure or stress about housing when families live together. The income they make is for food and other luxury items. Whatever income they make is enough. Imagine that! Why put ourselves under more stress to live alone when we can easily live together with family and friends in our American big houses, and then become co-dependent? Learn to be co-dependent and cooperate and compromise. Life can be so easy. Fix our homeless problem by changing our minds.

    • @klacsanzky77
      @klacsanzky77 2 года назад +14

      I agree with you! One issue is the high divorce rate in the US that splits up families at sometimes an early age for the kids. But the overall mentality to look out for each other and our family members, needs to be in the forefront. I think with the price of living in the US rises, family and friends will live more together under one roof.

    • @NicoleM2108

      That is not encouraged because it is exactly what would stop desperation. Desperation makes people work 16 hour days for apartments that leave them no money at the end of the month. It keeps the wealthy, wealthy and the poor, poor. The stigmatization for the poor and middle class is "you are 18 and live in your mama's basement". For the wealthy it is called "Camelot" or "The Kennedy Compound" ;)

    • @ligbzd837
      @ligbzd837 2 года назад +14

      @@NicoleM2108 But America is a free country. People can do whatever they want. They can live alone or with family. It's all a choice. We should stop caring about what "other" people will think because these "other" people will not pay our bills and will not fund our retirement. So, we must do what is "best" for our life. Learn to become good roommates with your family and split all costs. Section off the house into little units so each member can have their own privacy. And remember, stay out of the other member's business. Just share housing and try to mind your own business to avoid conflicts. We need to Re-learn how to co-exist and co-depend on each other to make an easy life... Otherwise, it will only get more stressed living alone.

    • @NicoleM2108
      @NicoleM2108 2 года назад +11

      @@ligbzd837 I was agreeing with you. I was merely pointing out that different ways living with family is treated depending on your class. If you have money and you still live a home, you are a loser. If you are rich and live with your family, you have a "dream existence" and a "strong family". This myth is perpetuated to keep people down. I never cared what people thought of me (not even my own extended family members!) I was close with my mom and we benefitted from each other's support. I would not have had it any other way! :)

      @@klacsanzky77 Family being kind of pushed to live together under 1 roof is actually often the cause of *A LOT* of homelessness..
      People having to continuously endure physical or Sexual Violence/abuse, Mistreatment & Favoritism, Vindictiveness, Gaslighting, being ganged up on ("Scapegoating"), Constant deliberate disrespect etc.
      ..its 100x more traumatic when its Family who is harming you.. especially when you have nowhere else to go. Having to experience any of that from the only people who you are suppose to be able to trust with your life & can irreversibly deteriorate someone's mental health.
      People (even animals) get Desperate to escape that type of hell, so they just leave or "runaway" from "home" or get "kicked out" for not allowing anymore of the abuse.
      Look at all the people from 3rd world countries that stay "closely tied" to family .. those & deeper issues get ignored, swept under the rug, avoided & "hushed" or kept away from the public at all costs (a "snitches get stitches" or you'll get excommunicated/ "shunned", killed if you tell, or "this is private family matters" etc) ..
      The sheer amount of children (both genders) who are "touched", full on r-ped, & some even becoming Pregnant from their own Uncles, Brothers, Cousins, Grandfathers etc in these families living together is unbelievable. (spking from Personal exp. from my own childhood, & I'm american but have heard these same traumas from all around the world for decades).
      Family all living together is often the *worst* answer for preventing homelessness, sadly, & usually only _exacerbates_ the problem (and other nightmare problems as well).

    It makes me sick. I knew a couple that moved to Arizona because they were close to retirement age. Then came along the pandemic and ended up on the streets after they sold everything they had to buy time. He kept in touch with his homies and complained about the danger he and his wife was in. They were urged to get what money they could to get a bus ticket home, with Go Fund Me, which they did. They are no longer homeless and they’re getting back on their feet. I live in New Zealand. At the beginning of covid the whole country went into lockdown. All of the homeless in NZ were put into motel accommodation - single people and families with kids, every single one. We still don't have enough housing and so many of those people are still there. There were wrap around services provided to help people get off drugs and those with other health and mental health problems. Some are back on the streets because they didn't get the help they needed or didn't take advantage of the help. Some of those people endlessly trashed their rooms and they are back on the street.
    It's not perfect but I'm pleased to live in a country with a heart.

      I left a previous comment, and in the State; I live the homeless have lots of resources, for those to get off drugs, and mentally ill help, and housing for those who need hospital stay, folks in prison there are tons of halfway houses, and resources for them to continue there success back into population. When it comes to homeless do to loosing jobs low income apartments, are being built left, and right for single people, and families. But they are still those who choose drugs, choose to not take mental health pills, inpatient and outpatient help, so they live on the streets, they even help you to stay in your home, and if you do get evicted they have programs to help reverse your evictions and get you into housing. That’s why so many people are flocking here do to my state taking care of its poor. I am not homeless myself, or in need of any help, but if; I was; I would use the resources to better myself, those cases where people refuse it is sad!

    Big companies should be sponsoring some of these programmes!!! This is an awesome documentary, the people are really determined to try and help turn homeless people's lives around. I wish there were more like them. Everyone is in a position to lose their job at some point in their lives. To look down on these people and decide they are 3rd Class Citizens is so wrong. That is what is wrong with people today. They are not united, they do not want to help, they think it is someone else's problem, and they think they are immune to poverty. All it takes is a break up of a marriage to set people on this road, or the loss of a job.
    Children should not be suffering this way, it is incredibly sad. The guy that said he was homeless - it was his first day, and he had just turned 18 years old, I wonder if he was tossed out of somewhere because he had just turned 18!!! That is despicable, whatever organisation, or parent that does that should be ashamed of themselves. One minute you have a home and next day - you turn 18 and your OUT???? That is a very vulnerable time in a teens life, that is the time that they are deciding what to do with their lives, college, leaving school, apprenticeship or job. How are they supposed to be successful when they are tossed out - just because of their age!!???

I'm always kind to people in the service industry, because I don't know their plight. In an instant and situations out of our control, we or anyone we know could end up like these people! We need to open up our heart and mind and have some compassion. Whatever the reason for their homelessness, in the end, they're human beings suffering from their circumstance, and I STILL have much compassion for them.

      These people in the service industry don't get paid very well, they rely on tips - in fact their tips can come to more than their wages, that is how low their income is. It is so difficult for a Mother to go through this, and the feeling that she is letting her children down. It IS heartbreaking. She is in a no-win situation, unless she can get some sort of sponsorship, to help her get a better job. How can a Mother go back to college and re-train for a better job, when she has children to attend to, and keep fed. She has no choice but to take a low end job, just to feed them. Getting on your feet is very, very hard, almost impossible without help. It is really enlightening to see communities come out and try to help.

Who knew that more than one child is a financial pitfall for even a married couple. None of us were aware of that until recently. Cried throughout. So heartbreaking. It is not just in cities either. It is here in a town of approximately 20,000 people in Middle Tennessee. The homeless are people too. I think part of the problem is people shut down to the pain they see because it is a lot to bear. It pops people's "safety" and "security" bubbles. Anyone, under the right set of shitty circumstances, can end up homeless.

    • @arkyboy14
      @arkyboy14 2 года назад +2

      Live in a city of approximately the same size and the availability of shelters are very limited. The couple they do have are small and always full and so people are turned away every day. They're also a couple of churches that offer a free meal, but that's usually only once a week or so. It's illegal for the homeless here to set up a tent encampment or to sleep in a public space like a park due to city ordinances. So, the homeless just hide the best they can for a place to sleep.

    I was riding my bicycle on a sidewalk and was hit at 30mph by a 5500lb Ford bronco and thrown/tumbled 60ft, run over by both axles. I was left for dead beside an 8 lane highway with the most traffic in the city, at noon. Police + paramedics only talked to the driver and ignored me. They arrived 4 hours after the accident. Took their sweet time. I was unconscious. I was bloody from head to toe, and the police refuse to release the photos they took of me. Just about every part of my body is damaged. I was left homeless and often paralyzed from the neck down. Urinated pure blood for over 4 years. My spine is zig zag. No feeling below the waist. Insurance + judicial fraud. I found the driver was the best friend of the founder + president of the BAR. She was also municipal attorney, + CEO of the hospital, which runs the clinics too. She is also CFO of the state university + owner of a commercial insurance firm that provides 90% of the malpractice insurance to doctors in the state. In effect, she was put into all these positions at once to control insurance costs in the state by placing her in charge of the police, paramedics, doctors, hospital, and judges/attorneys. They are intentionally murdering people for profit. I know it, personally. At least, in part, homelessness is due to keeping everyone driving with insurance rates that insure nobody + nothing except the scams of the elite. Nobody gave a damn or gives a damn. My sympathies for society have had to align with what it deserves, and that's nothing. All the excesses in society are born of the theft, murder, and extortion of innocent people. And that's not even 5% of what I could say.

Enough to risk losing a job and becoming homeless? I can't answer that, but I'm sure it's a compounding issue once they stop taking it.
      We have a number of shelters and facilities in my town, but people often don't like the rules or that they have to stay clean. Great for those who do, but you can't make someone want to get clean.

Swallow your pride, people are willing to help. It was hard for me to ask for help when my husband got sick with cancer that lasted 6 yrs. We needed a lot of help. Family wasn't there for us, my school help feed us for months! I felt horrible but did understand people did feel better helping us. My heart goes out to anybody homeless. It’s hard enough to survive if you have somewhere to live. Our government is a complete failure.🇺🇸

    In Mn and Louisiana you have to pay the medical facility for the copays before surgery..even colorectal surgery or an appendectomy! These are not elective surgeries In Tx a cancer treatment cost $45,00 she qualified for an $11,000 grant.had to sell her house to afford life saving medical treatment. ..People are 1 medical emergency away from homelessness

    I am homeless! I live in a tent on the side of a river. I lost my husband and home January 22,2022. I'm disabled and a fall hazard. I can't work. I don't use drugs or alcohol and I am a straight woman. The shelter where I live won't help me because of those three things. I have to go days without a shower and there are no bathrooms where we can even wash our hands after 5 p.m.. My wish is that some of the rich yuppies would ask why you are homeless, instead of passing judgement.

      Have you tried getting some disability help? There must be some sort of help out there for you. Wishing you all the best.

      @@yvonnemoore1128 american government only gives aid to those who need it the least. like ultra rich people who cant manage their giant companies or banks that commit mass fraud and do mass damage to the entire population.. those people are worth saving. but us who actually create real value for society by doing hard labor to create things of value are seen as cattle..
