Despite I already knew I hadn't chosen the brain nor the background I have, the context which you gave to these words and all your talk mean a milestone in my pursuit for self-compassion. THANK YOU!

is he now telling that the mind is conditioned by the genes or by the social environment? cause in case you grow up somewhere else than at your parents, as he says being kidnapped as a baby, you will not evolve the same mind as your parents, or? but if he is pointing that the genes are the ones who determines our mind, then it wouldnt matter where we grow up? anyone understands my point?

+kali wander Both genes and environment play a role in conditioning~ Look up Epigenetics

I noticed the `Recency Effect' with the shopping example . Of course people will relate a bad experience to tenfold more people...at what point though do you say `No more being an apologist for others crap or shocking actions?' it seems we can as individuals and wider society, become `bulldozed' emotionally. I think most of our problems stem from economic models, Western culture and a corporate rejection of other philosophies of living within the world. How bad have things become when we require teaching in Compassionate...or Empathy. Hard and Easy compassion...Interesting..there maybe a space where religion used to go...where we now need to fill with some reasons to be!

I had a course of CFT around 8 years ago, and it was completed inappropriate. I do not beleive that shame or inner critic were my main issue. After two sessions the therapist started preaching about having compassion for paedophiles, and I would question if this is actually compassion? Compassion is not a virtue, the motivation for euthanasia in the 1930's Nazis Germany was compassion - look where that led. Compassion is very much subjective. I do not believe his book the compassionate is anything new, and appears to be 4 other peoples ideas in one. Paul Gilbert was head of the NHS reasearch unit in Derby, and I was told to buy his book. There is no hard independant evident that CFT works, and he used the NHS to roll out experimental ideas in order to promote his book recieving the royalties along the way. There is a concept of narcissistic compassion, and I feel that Paul Gilbert has seen many people coming and done very well for himself out of it. Beware of false prophets! The guys ego is off the scale - maybe he should have stuck with the rock guitar! Does this not tell you something?
