Hi all! Thank you for all the comments! For those of you making remarks about how expensive this was maybe you missed the part about having an extra person for 2 out of the 4 months. If you divide the 140 by 2.5 people that gives you 56$ per person per day. Not to mention $7000 of the total number had to be spent to buy a water maker and a windlass which in our personal circumstance adds a little value to our boat. Now let’s assume we didn’t need to buy a windlass and a water maker. If you subtract the $7,354 from the total number (15,522)and divide the cost by 112 days and then 2.5 (number of people) you get around $30/ person / day. This season we also ended up having to dock more than usual due to insurance purposes and being in a safe place while I (Sierra) was alone while Billy was out of town for a few weeks. We are not rich by any means but we do spend a good amount of money improving our boat and going to interesting places that we can film to make videos for you🤗
Thank you for the run down and such detail. I very much appreciate this video. It’s solidified my decision to save up and buy a boat in the fall right before people in Newport RI and the area has to deal with winter and sail down the east coast for the winter and stay in FL. I’m a disabled veteran and feel with a comfortable cushion in the bank after a few months saving and a giant yard sale to generate extra income I can for sure swing a 30’ - 34’ monohull on my budget/compensation from the VA. How much is insurance monthly (sorry if it was said or listed I may not have heard/read that)?
So true. The maintenance on a boat can get expensive but that's the nature of the beast. It's still worth the pleasure it brings. I hear all the time, " a boat is hole in the water you throw money into". I guess they just don't get it and never will. It's either put money into my boat or pay a therapist. I'll take the boat any day! Nice job guys.
I see people asking you ALL the time about how much it costs you. This was nice of you to explain. Very interesting! It cost much more than I thought it would, though all worth it if you love being on the water! Thank you again for taking the time to break it all down! 👍🏻✌🏻
This is a great breakdown and well presented. I always appreciate when a couple provides this level of detail -- especially for a period of 3 - 4 months. Thanks for tracking these expenses and putting it all together.
Came back because i forgot to give a thumbs up! I thought it was very informative and probably one of the best I’ve seen on actual costs. Good luck and fair winds to you two and Jetty!
So about $46K if you stayed all year long. Not too bad I'd say. I currently live in Minnesota and I can tell you it cost allot more that what you spent. You give me hope that I will be able to afford living on our boat full time in a couple years. Thanks for sharing your expenses with us.
$140/day for 3 crew on the boat and that covers provisions, upgrades, repairs, fuel, entertainment, customs fees and anything I forgot to mention, isn't bad at all... in my opinion. I look at that as a solo sailor and think, yep, $46 and change per day works for me.
Dang! That is pretty expensive! My wife and I probably spend roughly $50 a week of groceries if you average it out. You spent our yearly budget in 4 months but you had more fun too and you had Jetty. Love the vids and thanks for taking us along on your adventures.
Very cool.....I hope to get a boat one day and hang out around Anguilla! Cant afford property there so thought this may be the way! Thank you for the look into what some expenses may be!
Thanks for visiting my Island. Very informative and detailed. Some pronunciation errors I noticed Roti and Carriacou. The correct was to say them are ROTI (Row-tea) and CARRIACOU (Kah-ri-cou).
Great info, guys. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate the "nitty gritty" vids as well as the scenic/fun ones. Hope your travels north are smooth. Fair winds..:)
You got a lot of boat work done with that. And had an amazing time in an amazing land. What a bargain! Great stuff. Sure wish we had done it when we were young. You guys are wise.
Well done on sharing all this. For sure that each situation is different and providing an average is always a dangerous exercise. Not sure any “Rule of thumb” can ever be provided. This is the audience’s duty to comprehend the scene behind the figures and get his/her own understanding.
Great video on your running costs. I reached out to Port Louie for pricing and we wandered how full was the marina during your stay and how far in advance did you hook your berth? We finally launch to start sailing south to the Bahamas! Dave says hi( we met you guys in Antigua with Judi and Allen) and he still talks about you guys joining us for his birthday! Awesomeness! ??????????? How much did you spend at the nail salon on Billy's nails??? Been looking a little better lately! LOL! Cheers from the States! o,o
With Zingaro almost breaking in half I hope this isn't a design flaw in the spindrift. Of course Billy is good on maintenance but still something to watch. Thanks for a great video!

Now that you guys have a water maker, you should looking into a small portable washing machine. 80-100 bucks on amazon. There are lots of reviews on youtube. I bought one for my RV. It actually works pretty well.
More expensive than I thought. Though it could be slimmed down quite a bit. And repairs etc are necessary maintenance and improvements. Like to hear about how the insurance works. Both for the boat and yourselves. As you mentioned the dermatologist
People are saying that's expensive and that was also my first thought until I realized how much I spend living on land. Just my rent is $1,300 a month, car insurance, food, water bill, gas and electric ect....so if you think about it like that then us on land probably spend more then they do. Just saying ..... Thank you for the breakdown
VERY WELL DONE! A++ I enjoyed the detail and the break down of said expenses, extremely detailed and useful. Sierra Marine Biologist/CPA.......Billy I liked your board shorts, where might I find those?
Can you elaborate more on the insurance requiring you to stay at a marina. Was this required during hurricane season only or was it required no matter what? Thank you!
It wasn’t required necessarily during Hurricane season but they want a “layup period” where the boat is not being used at all and the period is suppose to be dedicated to address repairs and maintenance. Most people haul out for this period. Our insurance let us stay in the water and I think they would have been ok even if we were on a permanent mooring. I am sure all of this and the length of time for layup is all negotiable with them.
one dinner the other night in Houston Texas for just me and my daughter was $124 after tip but that is not common it was a get together dinner not the norm
Thanks for the breakdown guys. Simple and clear unlike most channels. I need to figure out if I really want to do this in a year or so and day to day expenses are a high concern to me.
That's one thing I dislike a lot about going to places like this, as beautiful as they are. As soon as you step foot off the plane or the cruise ship you cant walk 10 feet without people hounding you to buy something or for them to give you a "personal tour". I've experienced it pretty often while traveling and people are not always so nice when you say no.

very interesting. thanks for the info. Are you ever coming back to Jupiter??? Cool when they come right to your boat to sell you things. Watch out for pirates though.
I did really appreciate this run down of costs. That marina did look amazing. To me the real question is "how much MORE does it cost to hurricane at Grenada vs. a port in the US north of the hurricane zone?" While I know you can't answer that, I suspect its cheaper there than in the US. Boat parts are more there, dockage fees are cheaper there. Anyway, great content for those of us dreaming of the cruising life some day.
Thanks so much for the Grenada cost breakdown,...travelling to Grenada is on my bucket list. Did I see vehicle driving British style? and so close to the USA,...
140 a day !!!! dang . I guess thats why im not there and still at home , no way could i or would i spend that amount ! I guess my idea of that life style is wrong , I was thinking more in the line of $100 per week . Granted one big expence was you water maker and other parts for the vessel so without those how much per day ?
Is it normal for insurance companies to require boats be docked for an extended period of time each year?? Is insurance cheaper when you are docked for extended stays?
My tip is.....when people 'hassle' you on the carenage and in town (they think you are on a cruise or staying local).....if you're not interested.....tell them you live there and they move on :) AND don't go to town when the cruise ships are in haha
Why lie? What will you say when they ask where do you 'live'? Maybe you missed the part where Sierra said the people are very nice. So you, a visitor, wants to fool the locals? Your 'tip' is how visitors get a bad rap with the locals.
Having traveled extensively outside of the United States, Health insurance is much cheaper than what your paying inside the United States. Along with pretty much the same quality of health care that you would get inside the United States.
With Zingaro's structural failure due to sea state at her designed length, even after refit and extensive maintenance 4 years ago. What consideration have you given to uprating and upgrading structural components in Adrenaline ?
I’m just going to try not to take her out in 30’ pacific swell. Also, no signs of loss of structural integrity in any of our beams, bulkheads, or hull to deck joint.
@@Tulasendlesssummer Ahh, thought James had made a statement that they were 20ft seas, i must be mistaken. Wasn't aware Zingaro was showing signs of loss of structural integrity prior to the catastrophic failure either. Anyways, good luck, be safe !
