    Hi Everyone,
    Today we started the planting of our green screen around our property. I've mentioned how our goal is to drop in all of our big trees during our back yard garden transformation. Today we planted 4 beautiful trees, and we will be planting many more. 🥰 Thank you guys so very much for watching todays video. 💚

    Hello do you have an update on the cedars? I love these so much I wonder what they look like now

    I love the idea of using conifers with more interest then the traditional arborvitae to design the green fence. But I have to ask, if those get 15’ wide, why did you plant them so close together and so close to the fence?

    I’m the same! I have to take a break from going to the nursery or I would bring new stuff home every week. I am planning to pick up some trees and shrubs this fall. We have lived in our house 6 years but I really didn’t start developing my the yard until last year. I get so inspired watching my favorite you tube channels ❤️

      Yay!!! Do you have any ideas which trees you want to get? I love planting in the Fall, these hot days make it difficult to plant now, but it was so satisfying to get them in ground. 😍

      Coast to Coast Home and Garden well I am still determining which trees. We have one mature tree in our back yard now that provides most of our shade but I think it has some issues. I want to get a tree in the ground soon that can start growing up and providing shade too in case something happens to the big tree. For shrubs - well not sure on those yet but definitely adding a few more hydrangea, and would like to plant some arbor vitae along our north property line.

      Laura Frye that sounds perfect! I think that adding the trees first, even if it’s just a one or two to the areas you’re working on will help to gage where you want to plant in your shrubs and other fillers. And like you said, it will provide shade so you can determine the plants you want to add next. Also, I love that you’re adding more hydrangeas!! You can never have too many hydrangeas. 😂😂

    Great choice in trees that you have. I love them & planted 4 this summer, 2022 in 90 degree heat. After touring my town, I notice that in zone 6 (MI) they can grow as large as in the wild- 50 feet T x 15 to 30 ft wide, so planted mine 15 feet from the neighbor's fence. I like natural & not trimmed. I have transplanted other trees and will not again wait until they get so big that the job becomes too big to handle. Best of success with your planting.

      Thank you Craig!! That’s amazing that they can get that large in your zone! 🤩 Ours our growing but slow, which is odd because the one in our front yard took off like a rocket.

    I highly recommend a cordless reciprocating saw as a staple in the garden. I've damaged tools trying to dig out tree roots.
    It's so easy to replace blades when they get dull.

      Kate that is brilliant!! I never thought of that! We might be running into some more roots, so I'm going to give it a try. 😍

    Gurl!!! How you can handle working out there in that heat is beyond me?!?!?😅🌡☀️🔥😓 I've been going out at 1st light in this heat (around 5:20ish) when the day is at its coolest & coming in when as soon as it hits 70. I stay in the house for the rest.of the day until late evening when it finally starts cooling (even if it means I'm still watering in the dark😬😅). I just don't do heat!🤢🤮🤪 I've been there w/ the root situation as we have an enormous 60 yr old double ornamental cherry tree that sits right in the middle of our backyard. Its gorgeous, vut I have been slowly having to replace some Rhododendrons (that were also quite old & established😭) as they were hit by that Rhody blight that went around a few years ago.
    The weeping cedars are stunners! I've always found something a little magical & ethereal about them. I love the color of that spruce! How fun to be able to have a piece of property young enough that you can choose your foundation pieces & be able to landscape it from the get go!!!

      I know I know, I was sweating like crazy! 🥵 I meant to film earlier in the day, but I was weeding some of our beds in the front. I am going to try really hard to start filming earlier in the day, at least until Fall. 🤩
      I agree, the cedars really are ethereal. Our property isn't too big, but I am excited to create something beautiful. I think removing everything and starting from scratch is always fun. It will be fun to see what we do in this garden. I have a vision, but it always changes. I am already thinking about our next property and hopefully the land we will be buying in the next few years. 😍

      @@InTheGardenWithClaudia And I was sitting there thinking & here she is w/ long sleeves, pants, rubber garden booties w/ her hair down - I'd be dead!😵🤣🤣🤣 And thats why you don't see me making videos. When I garden, it ain't pretty! Hair is up in some kinda bun or pony, shorts tanks (usually the worst ones I own too!😒😳😅)

    If they grow 15 ft wide aren’t they way too close to your fence? Just asking.

    • @InTheGardenWithClaudia

      They are pretty close, but we keep the trimmed so they won't over crowd. 🙂

    The Alaskan weeper grows very tall & wide… my neighbor has one in the front between our property & annoys the heck out of me bcz it blocks my morning sun to my side garden where I have a beautiful lilac & abelia tree.

    • @InTheGardenWithClaudia
      @InTheGardenWithClaudia  Год назад

      Oh no!! Have you asked for them to cut it back? Ours should stay on the smaller side, meaning no more then 15ft is how we will train them.

    do Alaskan Cedars tolerate dry shade?

    • @InTheGardenWithClaudia
      @InTheGardenWithClaudia  2 года назад

      Alaskan cedar prefers full sun exposures, but it tolerate partial shade. It grows best in moist, slightly acidic to neutral soil with good drainage.

    Wish i had a wife to garden with. All you need is 10 yrds of black mulch now

    • @stevie1748
      @stevie1748 7 месяцев назад +1

      STAY AWAY FROM DYED MULCH!!!
      A black mulch is carcinogenic, and dyed mulch does not break down nice like natural pine bark mulch.
      A great thing about mulch should be to break down to a nice compost.
      I do not see black mulch doing this.
