I told one of my best friends to recommend bands "equal to Opeth" and he recommended me to Leprous, now I listen to Leprous in memory of my friend, he passed away 2 months ago
You're telling me. Been listening to prog metal since 2005 when my friend who started playing guitar burned me a CD of numerous power/prog bands. Just found this band 2 years ago, saw them live last spring. Incredible live performance, entering my top 3 ever (and I've seen all the major players in prog).
Oh man, you're in for a treat friend. All of their albums have their own unique flavor and the band is always growing toward something. Plus I'm a straigt-up fanboy for Einar, he's such a vulnerable singer, it makes singing along feel extremely intimate and personal. Which isn't to say I don't love the backdrop and journey the band weaves together!
I show this song to people who don't like metal because of the guy's angelic voice. I even showed this song to my mom. She said it was *lovely*, but maybe she was lying cause I didn't see any head banging ..
Diego Pujol Me, too. I was listening to Liquid Metal on Serius satellite radio and hear "illuminate" and was hooked at once. They are really dope. They have a new fan in me. Peace from Augusta, Georgia.
i mean, some songs (like this one and the sky is red) are bangers, but they get boring quite quick, too pop and repetitive imho. The vocalist is really good technically, but his "thing" gets old quick
I am a prog head and a musician..and most of my taste is jazz and prog rock and metal.. I came back to this song just to admire leprous for making my non musical arab father who rejects any kind of heavy music,a big fan and asking me to buy him the album..thank you leprous for being great
I found this band during the pandemic and it really pulled me through the darkness. Saw you live in Chicago and it was amazing. One of my favorite bands of all time now.

WillEnj0y I gave this thorough listening to this song, and arrived to the conclusion that the last part can't be understood because he's reaching notes not available to human ear.
powergamer6 I suppose it gets interesting considering they fall under this supposed "metal" name. Just imagine what a die hard Slayer-only fan would say about the artsy vocals, the strange chord progressions, tiny amounts of distortion, and the lack of a solo/breakdown/whatever you want to call it. No hate against Slayer though.
***** I LOVE Slayer and I think this is fresh and innovative, reminds me of Dredg's El Cielo and Incubus's SCIENCE era's respectively, not just musically but also because those records just stood out at the time and are still incredible today......
I think I found Leprous when I was in the RUclips rabbit hole a few years ago while listening to Haken. Saw them in March in Charlotte and found the cellist on TikTok and asked if they’d play my favorite song when they are here again tomorrow night. Hope they do! 🤞🏼
Progressive Metal without any -core influence or bias like most modern """prog""" metal bands. Just moving forward with their own sound, not conforming to musical conventions.
Roderick Peterson Very true! I am getting tired of textbook prog bands who think they are being innovative and progressive, when all they do is play a couple of odd time signatures or follow some out-dated Yes-formula
Finally! I'm amazed how you guys manage to surprise, expand your music, yet still maintain your own, coherent style. Also big thumbs up for Baard's first record with you!
2 years ago- This was the first song I had ever heard by Leprous. We were driving to San Francisco taking turns being DJ. My friend Jessie put this one on. I have been listening to them ever since
Thank God this just randomly started playing after the Black Queen's album was done. I would have never listened to these guys if not. Perfect poker grind session music.
All of their albums have been very different, and each has been great in its own way. I don't think Leprous will disappoint. Only album I have been eager for this year.
Baard Kolstad is Brian Blade level. Neither of them ever fake anything, heart and soul in every hit, sound-conscious tight-pocketed band uniters both. It's so inspiring, as is Leprous' music overall. Gets you going every time. And they are still young, god knows what's still to be expected from them.
Need time to accept this change of sound, I really want to get those emotions from this album which I got from Bilateral (mainly) and Tall Poppy Syndrome. Long Live, Leprous, one of the greatest.
absolutely the same here. i love how catchy and at the same time progressive this new leprous is but i still miss the bilateral-type of freshness. i hope this is the Cloak-song of this album so that incan move on to the Valley's and Salt's once the whole thing comes out
Leonid Isachenko I'm not happy about Einar hogging the songwriting duties, regardless of whether the album is good or not. When you have at least two other talented composers in the band then why would you want to restrict their input?
Leonid Isachenko i would like to know what are the changes of sound you say, cause i don't really see significant changes of style... and I actually loved it in the first listen :D
jc matias I don't know really, it seems too "Coal-ish" to me, it's not a bad thing but I think Bilateral just outstanding album, Tall Poppy Syndrome is excellent too, but it's just my opinion. But at other hand it's pretty strange to wait the same, because Leprous is one of those bands that change their sound with pretty every record, so... I don't think this album will be dissapointment, but Bilateral fans know what I'm talking about.
Diego Sheish Rewind is one of the stronger on the album, amongst many weaker songs. I'm a Bilateral guy, these new offerings aren't doing much for me. I do love The Price though.
Alex Kulp I accept your opinion, but I disagree. Sort of. I insist that the album is beautiful all the way through, including Rewind, so we can both agree on that.
I dunno, dude, the live version of And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope has some pretty well placed synchronized headbanging. Or maybe it was Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise... I don't remember, it's been a minute.

Dude, same. I saw them in the lineup of a festival I'm going to so I checked them out and, wow.
Just discovered them today (10/31/23). Right there with you.
that synchronized headbanging
kiss rip-off
@Louis Castro lmao :^)
Made me laugh too!
Its the good kind of cringe lol
I think that if the headbanging is not synchronized something is wrong
i could listen to that beginning on repeat for hours...

oooooh oh ooooh oooooooohhh
Only the beginning for two days :D
The beginning reminds me of Queens of the Stone Age kinda
I actually do.

This was the song that introduced me to Leprous. I remember listening to it for the first time and immediately falling in love with the band!
That subtle high harmony at 4:27 though. What a voice.
So cool I've never paid attention to it until you pointed out.

Great song and wicked production and arrangement. It's so dry and tight as a drum, but also has some ambience as well. Really really liked it.
The drum fill from 3:31 is seriously up there with as one of the best fills I've ever heard. Listen from 3:21 to get the full picture, so epic!
I like to think that there are other people that played this song at the exact same time as me and we all are headbanging synchronized with these guys
